The big day has finally arrived. Christmas. The air is icy, but the sky is a crystal blue, almost unreal. Yet, despite the beauty of the day, Brooke has a knot in her stomach. It's not because of the preparations, or the decorations, or even the dinner that promises to be delicious. No, it's because of what awaits her tonight: meeting Lucas' family.

Brooke looks at Emma, who is getting ready with overflowing enthusiasm. She is trying on her white dress, dazzled by the fairy lights and the Christmas tree that they decorated together. Brooke looks at herself in the mirror, trying to readjust her hair, then to concentrate on her makeup. But it's as if her hands are paralyzed, shaking. What is she going to do? What is she going to tell Lucas' family? What if she doesn't fit in with them? And then there's Emma... She's not quite like the other kids. What will they think of her? Will they accept her?

Brooke breathes lightly, trying to reassure herself. On the other hand, she trusts Lucas. He's kind, caring, and she knows he wants everything to go well. But... it's so much pressure. A pressure she hadn't imagined when she arrived here a few weeks ago. Everything happened so fast, too fast. And today, she's nervous, terribly nervous.

Emma : Mom, do you want me to help you do your hair?

Emma pulls her mother out of her thoughts with her question. She stands there, her head bowed, a big smile on her face. She's so serene. She, she has no anxiety. She's impatient, excited to spend Christmas at Lucas's. She hands her mother her little comb, as if the answer to her doubts was found in this simple gesture. Brooke looks at her, internally cursing herself for letting fear invade her mind. She grabs the comb, smiling at her.

Brooke : Thanks, sweetie. That's sweet. But I think I'll get there on my own now.

Emma bursts out laughing. She's right. Basically, it's just a meeting, a dinner, a Christmas. Nothing more. Brooke takes a deep breath and decides to get dressed. Ella grabs her carefully chosen green dress, a dress that is both comfortable and elegant. She pulls it over her head, putting on her tights and pumps. Her hair, which she had left loose, now falls in light waves on her shoulders. She looks at herself one last time in the mirror. And she feels... good. A little more confident. As if she could, at least for this evening, forget her fears.

Emma : Mom, look how pretty I am!

Brooke : You look beautiful, sweetie. But tell me, how do you feel about tonight? Are you a little nervous?

Emma : No! Why should I be nervous? I'm just so happy! Lucas, he's great, and Max, he's so cool! We're going to have a great evening together.

Brooke smiles, touched by her simplicity. She's not afraid. She charges forward, head held high, without asking questions. Maybe she could learn a little from her daughter.

Brooke finishes putting on her makeup while concentrating, having only one desire: for all this to be behind them. She tells herself that this Christmas must above all be a moment of happiness. No matter what happens, as long as they are together.

Brooke takes a last tour of the house, checking that everything is in order, that they have the gifts ready and that everything is well prepared for the evening. Suddenly, the front door opens abruptly. Brooke jumps, turning around. Lucas enters, Max at his side. They are smiling, as if everything is perfectly fine, and this smile is a balm on Brooke's anxieties.

Lucas : Hi, are you ready? Can we go, or do you need a few more minutes?

Brooke : I think we are ready, don't you, Emma?

Emma : Yes, we're ready, we're finally going to celebrate Christmas with you and your family. I'm so happy.

Lucas then walks towards Brooke and, without saying a word, takes her hand in his. He squeezes her gently, as if to soothe her.

Lucas : You're beautiful, Brooke. Everything's going to be okay. And you know what? Even if you're a little apprehensive, I promise you that my family will love you. They're like me: they just want everything to go well, for you to be happy.

Brooke nods, touched by his words. She lets herself be guided to the door, taking one last look around them. Everything is in place, everything is ready for Christmas.

Brooke, Lucas and the kids are already in the car, eager to get to Lucas's mother's house. Max has a big smile on his face, as does Emma.

Brooke : You know, Lucas, I'm a little nervous, but... I feel good with you.

Lucas : And you know what? Me too. But together, we can face anything. And I promise you, everything will be okay.

When they arrive, Brooke is amazed. Lucas' family home is a real Christmas picture. As soon as they cross the door, a gentle warmth envelops them, both that of the place and that of the people who live there. A huge fir tree sits in the center, covered in fairy lights and bright decorations. Brooke glances at Lucas, who shakes her hand as if to tell her that everything will be fine. Emma, she, has already jumped out of her boots to follow Max. They head towards the living room, fascinated by the tree and the presents piling up at its foot. Haley appears in the kitchen doorway, a broad smile on her lips, an apron still tied around her waist.

Haley : Ah, Brooke, welcome! I'm so glad you both came! Emma, my darling, would you like a little hot chocolate before having fun with Max?

Emma : Oh yes, please!

Haley gives Brooke a discreet wink before disappearing with the children, as if to say: Everything is going to be fine, trust me. Brooke turns to Lucas, who invites her forward with a reassuring gesture.

Lucas : Come on, I'll introduce you to everyone.

They go into the living room, where a small gathering is already gathered. Lucas' mother stands up first, an elegant woman with brown hair and a sweet smile.

Karen : So, it's you Brooke! Lucas didn't tell us much, but we understood that you were special. Welcome to our home!

Brooke : Thank you very much. I'm glad to be here.

Lucas : This is my father. Don't let him scare you, he's as gentle as a lamb.

Brooke : Nice to meet you, sir.

Keith : Oh, forget the sir, everyone here calls me Keith. So, Lucas, how long have you been hiding this lovely Brooke from us?

Lucas laughs nervously, but he is quickly saved by Haley, who comes back with the children and a big plate of cookies.

Haley : Come on, don't pester him too much, we have time to get to know her better, right? And besides, everyone at the table, dinner is ready!

The meal is a pure moment of magic. Everything is perfect: the succulent dishes, the bursts of laughter, the animated conversations. Emma and Max behave well, although they are clearly excited at the idea of opening the presents. Brooke gradually feels more at ease, welcomed with open arms by this family that seems as warm as it is united. At one point, Haley sits down next to her.

Haley : It's going well, right? See, I told you they'd love you.

Brooke : Thanks, Haley. I mean, I worried for nothing.

Haley : Now, there's just one more step. You know, the infamous announcement.

Brooke : Do you really think this is the right time?

Haley : Look, these two have spent weeks playing matchmaker. I think they deserve to know that their efforts have paid off, don't you think?

Lucas : We can say it now, if you're ready.

Brooke nods slightly. This is the right time. Lucas stands up and gently taps his glass with a spoon to get everyone's attention.

Lucas : Excuse me, everyone. Before we open the presents, Brooke and I have something to tell the kids.

Emma and Max look up, intrigued, but also impatient. Lucas offers Brooke his hand, and she stands up next to him.

Lucas : You know that Christmas is a time of magic, where anything can happen. And sometimes, there are gifts that are not wrapped in shiny paper. Gifts that... are built over time, with lots of laughter and complicity.

Brooke : Emma, Max... you've worked hard to make Lucas and I more than just friends. What you don't know is that your little schemes have worked.

Lucas and Brooke exchange a knowing look.

Lucas : So, we've decided that the best gift we can give you for Christmas... is our relationship.

The kids freeze for a moment, as if they're not sure if they heard correctly.

Max : I knew it! I knew it!

Emma : Is that true? Lucas is going to be my stepdad?

Brooke : Well, let's just say maybe one day it will be. But for now, we just wanted you to know that we love each other very much and that we're going to move forward together.

Emma and Max rush towards them, their arms outstretched. They hold each other very tightly, and Brooke feels tears welling up in her eyes. Lucas puts an arm around Brooke's shoulders, and in that moment, everything seems perfect. But before Brooke can fully give in to that sweet emotion, Haley steps in, teasing as always.

Haley : Well, now that that's out of the way, does anyone want to open the presents? Because I have a craving for the chocolates on the tree!

The whole table bursts out laughing, and the atmosphere instantly lightens. Brooke sits back down, Lucas still by her side, and she thinks that this Christmas is really the best of her life.
