Chapter 2: Playing Together

Inside the classroom, Charlie Brown, Linus, Jason, Jesse, Kristen, Min, Peppermint Patty, and Snoopy were looking for stuff to put in Barney's game machine while Baby Bop, BJ and the others looked in other places. Snoopy was digging through the dress up chest when Lila walked in.

"Hi guys!" Lila smiled and waved. "What you up to?"

"Hey Lilliana!" Peppermint Patty smirked. "We're looking for stuff to put in Big Purple's game machine."

Lila blinked. "Lilliana?" she asked.

"You'll get used to it." Min smiled. Just then, Snoopy emerged wearing a purple, curly wig, laughing his head off.

"Hey! Look what Snoopy found!" Jesse laughed.

"That looks funny, Snoopy." Lila giggled.

"Let's find some more!" Kristen smiled. With that, the kids tried on different wigs and Snoopy gave his purple wig to Jesse.

"How do I look?" Lila asked, wearing a red wig with a ponytail. Kristen was wearing the same.

"Very silly!" Min giggled, wearing a blonde wig. "How do you like my new hair?"

"Now you have really long hair, Min." Linus laughed, wearing a toupee wig.

"Not as long as this!" Charlie Brown chuckled, wearing a brown-haired wig.

"How's this for really long hair?" Peppermint Patty smirked, wearing a black-haired wig. Jason was wearing the same kind.

"You need a haircut, Peppermint Patty." Jesse chuckled.

"You're right. I should. Got any good places I could go to, Chuck?" Peppermint Patty asked.

"Just one. Follow me!" Charlie Brown smiled as he lead his friends up to the treehouse where Barney had already set up his own barber shop.

"We're here! Now you can get that haircut, Peppermint Patty!" Lila giggled.

"And that's exactly why we came here."

"Bonjourno!" Barney beamed. "Welcome to Barney's Barner Shop. Come take a seat, please!"

The kids all took seats.

"So much hair, so little time...now how would ya like your hair done?"

"Cut a little off the top- and make my hair look like a porcupine, please!" Peppermint Patty chuckled.

"Me too!" said Linus.

"Me three!" Jason mused.

"And how about you, Min?" Barney asked.

"Cut a little off the sides and I'd like my hair styled VERY high, please." Min said.

"And I'd like a little cut off all around, combed to one side with lots of bows and ribbons." Kristen giggled.

"Braided in two pigtails with a big pink bow in the middle." Lila giggled.

"Oh fanstico!" Barney giggled. "And how about you, Charlie Brown?"

"I want a lot taken off all around. Cut it really short, Barber Barney." Charlie Brown requested.

"Same here." Jesse smiled.

"Really short?" Barney giggled. "OK, if that's how you want it, we can make it really short as we can."

A few minutes later, the kids' 'haircuts' were finished. "How are you liking your porcupine hairstyle, sir?" Barney asked Peppermint Patty.

Luckily, Peppermint Patty didn't get even the tiniest bit annoyed when Barney used that nickname. "Nice job! It's perfectly pointy!" she grinned.

"Mine too! Just the way I wanted it!" Jason smiled.

"We might wanna stay away from balloons with this hairstyle." Linus joked.

"Is your hairstyle high enough, miss?" Barney asked Min.

"Just right, Barber Barney!" Min giggled.

"The look is definitely you!" Barney giggled before turning to Kristen and Lila. "How do you like your ribbons and bows style, miss?"

"It's combed all to one side, just the I wanted it, Barney!" Kristen smiled.

"And the bows and ribbons are lovely!" Barney giggled. "And what about your pigtails, miss?"

"They look beautiful, especially with the pink bow on top, Barney!" Lila giggled.

"And is that short enough for both of you, sir?" Barney asked as Charlie Brown and Jesse were now looking bald.

"Jesse! What happened to you?" Jason asked.

"You look just like Chuck's hair usually is!" Peppermint Patty exclaimed.

"Pretty neat, huh?" Jesse grinned before pulling the wig off and show his still intact hair. "But luckily I didn't have all my hair cut off."

"That looks more like you." Charlie Brown smiled, pulling off his wig as well.

"It was really fun coming to Barney's Barber Shop." Lila smiled.

"Why thank you, Lila." Barney smiled.

"Can we put these wigs in the game machine?" Min asked.

"Sure!" Barney agreed.

"In the meantime, let's look for a few more things while we're up here." Linus suggested. As the kids started looking, Lila eyed Linus's blanket with curiosity.

"You sure seem to love holding that blanket." Lila noticed.

"Why yes I do, Lila. It helps me feel secure and in check." Linus smiled. "But it can also serve many different purposes as well." He then folded his blanket to make it look like the Mayflower. "Example: my history project from last school year: the Mayflower!"

"Wow! That is neat." Lila smiled. "You and Baby Bop sure know how to make good use of your blankets!"

Meanwhile, back downstairs, Baby Bop, Lucy, Sally, Schroeder, and Heather were loading toys into Barney's Game Machine. "Here's a car! Vroom, vroom!" Sally giggled.

"And a toy boat! Chug, chug, chug, chug!" Baby Bop giggled.

Lucy rolled her eyes. "I do hope when she does get older she'll outgrow that silly blankey." Lucy whispered to Schroeder.

"Stay focused!" Schroeder whispered.

"And a train." Sally giggled. "Choo choo! In the game machine!"

"Don't forget the big airplane!" Baby Bop laughed. "ZOOM! ZOOM!"

"Fine..." Lucy sighed.

"There, that's all the toys." Sally said as she closed the lid, accidentally knocking Baby Bop's blankey in it.

"Uh oh." Lucy and Schroeder realized.

"BarneyBarneyBarney!" the two girls out.

"We put lots of toys in the game machine!" Baby Bop said.

"That's great, everyone. Thanks for helping." Barney praised.

Lila looked at Peppermint Patty as she held Webster. "Can I put Webster in the funny thing?"

"Your choice, kid." Peppermint Patty said.

Lila thought about it but was cut off.

"Wait a minute, wait a minute, where's my blankey?! Where's my blankey?!" Baby Bop panicked.

"I don't see it around here, Baby Bop, but I'm sure it's somewhere." Linus gulped.

"I don't see it either! Oh no! Uh oh!"

Lucy inhaled. "Linus, can she borrow yours? Just this once?"

Linus nodded. "Happiness should be shared."

Baby Bop was still overwhelmed but calmed down slightly when Linus handed her his blanket and kissed her cheek.

"Lila, wanna try cranking the game machine?" Barney asked.

Lila nodded and handed Snoopy Webster. "Here boy, you'll know what to do with her."

Snoopy nodded and ran off.

Barney and Sally:

The game machine will make us cheer

When its fun and games appear

Turn the crank and soon we'll play

Lots of games all through the day

It flickered a few times.

"Yeah, I think we need to add a few more things." Kristen said.

"I think you're right." Charlie Brown sighed.

"I think we should start looking for more play things." Linus said.

"And I'm gonna look for my blankey." Baby bop huffed.

"We'll help you look." Min said as Sally and Lila nodded.

"I wonder what Snoopy's doing." Jesse told Charlie Brown.

Inside, Snoopy had given Marcie Webster to cuddle when he knocked over a bunch of hats. "Yipe!"

"Snoopy, you are a genius." BJ smiled. "I'll take these to the playground. See what else you can find, fuzzy face."

Snoopy smiled and nodded at that idea as he and BJ went outside. "Hey everybody! Look what me and Snoopy found to put in the game machine!" BJ said

"Look at all the hats!" Heather chuckled.

"Everybody gets one!" BJ smiled.

"Those do look funny!" Peppermint Patty giggled.

"You all look great in your silly hats!" Barney chuckled.

Barney:

Hats. Hats

Hats are lots of fun.

Just put on a hat.

You can look like anyone.

Alone or with a friend.

It's fun to play pretend with hats.

BJ and Peppermint Patty:

Baseball caps are fun to wear.

For when it's bright and sunny.

Jesse and Lucy:

Here's a hat with fishing lures.

My dad wears this and sure looks funny.

Heather and Kristen:

I can make a paper hat.

My favorite color's yellow!

Jason and Charlie Brown:

I can wear a birthday hat.

And sing "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow"

Barney, BJ, Kristen, Jesse, Jason, Charlie Brown, Schroeder, Heather, Peppermint Patty, and Lucy:

Hats are lots of fun.

Back up in the treehouse, Linus, Min, Sally, Lila, and Baby Bop were looking for more stuff to put in the game machine and Baby Bop's blankey. "Here, blankey blankey!" Lila called out.

"Lila, don't be silly! How's a blanket going to respond if we call out to it?" Sally asked, rolling her eyes.

"Did you find it?" Baby Bop asked nervously.

"No. But don't worry. We'll find it soon." Lila assured before their eyes went to a tape recorder.

"Ooooh! What is this, Min?" Baby Bop asked.

"That's a tape recorder, Baby Bop." Min explained.

"Can we play with it?" Baby Bop asked.

"Sure! We can have lots of fun with it." Min smiled.

"When you push this button, you can record sounds with it." Linus explained, showing the three year old dinosaur how the tape recorder works. "And when you push this button, it'll play the sounds back."

"Say something silly!" Lila smiled before pushing the record button.

"Icky wicky bicky boo!" Baby Bop complied.

Lila pressed the 'stop' button. "Now we'll play back what you said." She pressed the 'play' button as Jesse walked by the window.

"Icky wicky bicky boo!"

"Whose voice was that?!" Jesse gawked.

"That's me; that's me saying something silly! Oooooooh! Again, Lila? Can we do it again? PLEASE, Lila?"

"Action." Lila mouthed.

"Frimma framma flamma foo!"

"That's funny, Baby Bop." Linus smiled.

Inside the classroom, Barney, Snoopy, BJ, and the rest of the kids were looking around. "There must be more things we can use for the game machine in here..." Lucy muttered as she looked around.

"I'll check the recycling bin." Jason suggested.

"That's a great idea, Jason." Barney praised.

"And reusing old stuff is cool!" BJ added.

"Right, BJ, when we recycle, we help protect our earth."

Barney (BJ, Barney's Friends and Peanuts Gang):
