Chapter 3: New Ways to Play
"I know a fun game we can play with these bottles." Heather gasped.
"What?" BJ asked.
"We can go bowling, just watch!"
After a bit, she and Kristen finished setting up the bottles like pins. "Who wants to roll first?"
Lucy raised her hand.
"All set, Lucy." Kristen giggled. "You'll go first; see if you can knock them all down!"
Lucy beamed. "Watch this, everyone!"
She rolled the ball as it hit all ten bottles. "THAT'S how you bowl."
"MY TURN!" BJ squealed.
Giggling, Heather put the bottles back in place while Kristen got the ball. "Your turn, BJ."
"Okay...concentrate..." BJ rolled and also hit a strike. "I DID IT! I KNOCKED THEM ALL DOWN!"
"I'll get the pins!" Charlie Brown offered as he kissed Heather's cheek.
"If kissing was a game, you'd win." Kristen covered her eyes.
Kristen took her turn next. "Here it goes!" she smiled as she rolled the ball.
"You knocked all down! Nice job, Kristen!" Barney smiled.
"Thanks Barney! Now it's Heather's turn!" Kristen smiled.
"I'll set the bottles back up!" Jason smiled as he did just that.
Heather happily twirled before rolling the ball. "YES! STRIKE!" she happily squealed.
"GREAT JOB, HONEY!" Charlie Brown smiled.
"I'll set the bottles back up." Lucy offered as she did just that and Jason took his turn next. He then rolled the ball and got a strike. "You knocked them all down!"
"Now it's your turn, sweetie!" Heather smiled to which Charlie Brown blushed. "I'll set the bottles back up."
Heather happily did just that. "If that blockhead gets a strike, I'll probably faint." Lucy snickered.
Charlie Brown sweated a bit as he held the ball. "Just don't get nervous...you can do it." he sighed before rolling the ball, knocking down all the bottles.
"YOU DID IT, CHARLIE BROWN! You knocked them all down!" BJ cheered.
Lucy was so shocked that she fainted on the spot as Heather leaped to her boyfriend and planted a big kiss on his cheek. "I knew you could do it, honey!" Heather smiled. "Come on, Barney! Now you take a turn."
"OK! I will!" Barney smiled.
"I'll set the bottles up for you this time." BJ offered. BJ did just that as Barney took the ball and rolled it, knocking all but one of the pins down.
"Good try though, Barney. You almost knocked them all over." Charlie Brown smiled.
"Aw shucks!" Barney said, stamping his foot, causing the last bottle to fall down.
"Hey! You did knock them all over!" Heather smiled.
"Say, why don't we put these bottles into the game machine?" Barney suggested.
"Good idea!" Charlie Brown smiled as Lucy got back up.
"I don't know but you still manage to shock me every time, Charlie Brown." Lucy commented.
Back up in the treehouse, the kids and Snoopy were looking around for more stuff to put into the game machine while Baby Bop was still trying to look for her blankie. "Blankie! Blankie!" Baby Bop called out.
"Still no sign?" Linus asked.
"No luck." Lila translated as she found a horseshoe stand.
"WHERE? IS MY? BLANKEY?!"
"WHOA!" Linus, Sally and Lila gasped in shock.
"I'll look down here-ooooooh, somebody's good at horseshoes." Baby Bop giggled.
"Should we tell her?" asked Sally.
"Nah." Linus shrugged.
Back in the classroom, Peppermint Patty was rolling the ball aimlessly when something hit her. "HEY GANG!"
"What?" Lucy asked.
"Let's play a bit of ball, outside."
Snoopy cheered as he nudged Marcie.
"Mmmm-Snoopy?"
He pecked her cheek. "TADA!"
"No one say anything about D-O-G G-E-R-M-S." Lucy whispered.
"YOU'RE the one who doesn't like D-O-G G-E-R-M-S." Jason signed.
"Come on, you two." Peppermint Patty laughed.
BJ, Charlie Brown, Lucy, Heather, Kristen, Marcie, Jason, Snoopy, and Barney were now outside playing ball. "Here it comes BJ!" Barney smiled as he bounced the ball, making it bounce very high.
"WHOA! Big Purple, you sure do know how to bounce a ball!" Peppermint Patty gawked.
"I'd say we put the tape recorder into the game machine." Lila smiled as the ball came their way.
"I got it!" Linus smirked, using his blanket to catch the ball.
"Wow! Nice catch, Linus!" Baby Bop giggled.
"Barney, that ball bounced so high I can't see it anymore." BJ said.
"Whoops! Sorry, BJ. It was a dino sized bounce!" Barney giggled sheepishly.
"Remind me to make sure he stays careful if I bring him into a moon bounce during any of my birthday parties." Lucy whispered as Baby Bop, Lila, Linus, Sally, Min, and Jesse came back down with more stuff for the game machine.
"Hey! The ball! Where did you find it?" BJ asked.
"It flew all the way to the treehouse porch." Linus explained. "Let's put these things into the game machine."
The kids, dinos, and beagle did just that. "Can I crank the Game Machine this time, Barney?" Kristen asked.
"Sure Kristen!" Barney smiled as Kristen did just that.
Barney:
The game machine will make us cheer
when it's fun and games appear.
Turn the crank and soon we'll play
lots of games throughout the day.
The Game Machine then sputtered out confetti, but then stopped. "Maybe the Game Machine is broken, Barney." Linus said.
"Well, lemme check..." Barney said, checking it. "It still needs a few more things added to it."
"BJ, will you help me find my blankey?" Baby Bop asked.
"Ay yi yi!" BJ groaned.
"Please!" Baby Bop begged.
"OK. We can go into the school and look in the halls!" BJ said as they did just that.
"I sure hope they find it." Linus gulped before picking up a jar of beans. "Anyway, me and Min found this jar of beans, but I don't know if we could add them to the Game Machine."
"Yeah, we can't think of a game to play with beans." Min said. Just then, an idea hit Jason's head.
"I know! We can make bean bags!" Jason smiled.
"But how can we do that?" asked Lila.
"Oh this looks like a job for..." Barney bubbled with excitement before using his magic to make the Barney Bag appear in the classroom.
"The Barney Bag!" the kids happily exclaimed before rushing inside with Snoopy and Barney.
Barney:
Well, I've been looking in my Barney Bag
And I found a lot of things.
Gizmos and gadgets and odds and ends.
And even some old string.
Barney's Friends and Peanuts Gang:
So let's ask ourselves a question,
"What can we make today?"
With imagination and the Barney Bag
We'll see what we can make today
Yeah!
See what we can make today.
"The beanbag factory is open for business." Barney joked as the kids got to work.
"One scoop...two scoops...three scoops..." Linus counted as he helped Kristen pour some beans in a sock.
"Three scoops make a beanbag." Jason explained to an uninterested Sally.
"Now to tie these knots." Peppermint Patty giggled.
Lila tossed a beanbag on her nose. "TADA!"
"Bravo!" Barney clapped.
"I made the purple beanbag with the yellow polka dots." Lucy looked away.
"I like those colors."
"They look A LOT like Barney's feet." Jesse giggled.
Lucy murmured a little.
"Mine's the blue one." Linus explained.
"And mine has the hearts on them." Heather cooed.
"They all look super dee duper!" Barney chuckled.
Min smiled. "Come on, everyone. I have an idea for a game we can play with these beanbags."
And Snoopy got the door for the kids.
Barney, Baby Bop, BJ, Barney's Friends, and Peanuts Gang:
A-tisket, a-tasket
A bean bag in a basket
It's fun to do and fun to play,
When it's in a silly way.
A-tisket, a-tasket
A bean bag in a basket
Min and Heather:
On your head or nose or chin,
When you get there, throw it in.
Barney, Baby Bop, BJ, Barney's Friends, and Peanuts Gang:
A-tisket, a-tasket
A bean bag in a basket
Jesse and Linus:
Balancing it carefully,
Walking very steadily.
Barney, Baby Bop, BJ, Barney's Friends, and Peanuts Gang:
A-tisket, a-tasket
A bean bag in a basket
BJ and Peppermint Patty:
On your shoulder, nose, or tail,
Walking slowly as a snail.
Barney, Baby Bop, BJ, Barney's Friends, and Peanuts Gang:
A-tisket, a-tasket
A bean bag in a basket
Carrying it anywhere,
It's lots of fun to throw it there
