Disclaimer: I don't own shit. (sad crying) Specifically I don't own Harry Potter or any other references in this fanfiction.
This is a new gamer fanfiction, with a system closer to what you see in some Korean manhwa and a mobile game. The main take away is that this will focus on the main character climbing a tower (like SOA) and reaping rewards from successfully reaching new levels. This chapter isn't very long since it more of an introduction. Enjoy.
Chapter 1
Adam gave a yawn as he flipped through the pages of his potion's textbook. It was the last one on his list and the driest read he had so far, and that included history. No fanfic could have ever prepared him for the utter mind-numbing task of trying to decipher magic books. It was like trying to read Shakespeare in high school all over again. Every time his eyes started to wonder or skip over words he would have to start the beginning of the page again. Luckily, he was almost done, he was on section Z of One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi.
Quest: Bookwork (Complete)
Objective: Read all of your schoolbooks before the start of the school year.
Reward: 1 Talent, +50 Power, 100 Gold
With a sigh of relief he closed the cover of the book and then proceeded to throw it behind him. He then let out a large grin as he opened his system menu.

"Finally, all of that hard work paid off," Adam announced as he looked at the massive increase in his Power. Defense was still pretty low but understandable as the only protective equipment he had on were a pair of thick dragon hide gloves, which he only wore as a way of break them in.
He looked at the out of the window and noticed that the sun was setting already meaning that he had spent the majority of the day inside studying. Getting up from his desk he stretched and made his way to the kitchen.
Unsurprisingly there was no dinner prepared. "Looks like they still aren't back yet," Adam noted as he put on a pink frilly apron and went to have a look at the pantry which was sorely lacking in ingredients. "Seems like I'll be eating boiled potatoes again," he sighed with disappointment.
Taking out a large pot he pointed the tip of his wand and cast Aguamenti to fill it with water. Then he placed it on the iron stove and lit the firewood underneath with a simple fire making spell. He finished by throwing in a couple of potatoes and a bit of salt.
"If nothing else, at least I can at least use the new spells I learned to survive on my own."
As he waited for the potatoes to finish cooking, he opened his menu to the newly unlocked Talent tab.
Talents: Talents are unique magic abilities available to the player through the system. There are a total of 15 talents to choose from which are divided into 5 main categories. Some Talents have their own set of options. Each Talent can be chosen multiple times, each time gaining a new option.
The mention of unique magic abilities caught his attention. The spells he learned from just reading the first-year books were already pretty impressive and that was basically considered common knowledge in the wizarding world. Just how much more powerful could he get if he included these unique abilities to the mix?
Artificer: Your talents lie in the use of magical objects.
Warlock: Your talents lie in borrowing power from outside sources.
Psionics: Your talents lie in the mind arts.
Technomancy: Your talents lie in the mix of magic and technology.
Elementalism: You talents lie in drawing and using nature.
"Straight to the point. I like that," he thought, especially after spending the last 12 hours doing nothing but reading.
(Artificer) Mimic Item: You can create a magical replica of a craftable object commonly found from any universe that you are aware of. (Mimic items can be changed after one week but consumable items take one month to respawn.)
(Artificer) Golem Core: You obtain a golem core which grants sentience and minor magical abilities to whatever object it is imbued with.
(Artificer) Alchemist Flask: You obtain a metal flask that's can infinitely replicate any potion that's poured into it. (Refills itself every hour.)
Adam was pleasantly surprised by the first set of options. The idea of having a real working lightsaber was certainly appealing. Though not as appealing as having an infinite supply of Felix Felicis.
Shaking his head he made a mental note.
(Warlock) Star Sigils: You can draw power from constellations, allowing you to doubling your power during your chosen Zodiac month.
(Warlock) Divine Crest: You form a pact with a godlike being granting you minor magical abilities associated with your patron.
(Warlock) Rune Seal: You can engrave a magical seal on someone's body allowing them to use a portion of your skills and abilities.
He frowned at the idea of being dependent on something other than his own power, especially at the mention of godlike beings. The only one that looked remotely useful was the Star Sigils, doubling his power for a month was nothing to scoff at after all.
(Psionics) Stand: Allows you to manifest a phantom copy of yourself that shares all of your abilities.
(Psionics) Telepathy: Allows you to read the minds of those around you within range. (Range: 100)
(Psionics) Telekinesis: Allows you to mentally lift, move, and apply crushing force to objects within your range. [Limitations: (Range: 50ft) (Weight: 1-100 lb.) (Line of sight) (Non-organic)]
"No this is what I'm talking about!" he exclaimed with a large toothy grin. He appreciated the JoJo reference but more than anything he knew just how useful having a clone could be. Telepathy and Telekinesis were obviously great choices too and not just because it allowed him to roleplay his Jedi fantasy.
Adam made a mental note to get all three at some point before moving to the next on the list.
(Technomancy) Nanomachine: You gain the ability to make nano machines that can be programed to enhance your current body. [Types: (Black: Tech) (Blue: Magic) (Red: Body)]
(Technomancy) Network: You can control all technological devices within range. (Range: 50 ft)
(Technomancy) Hex-tech: You gain the necessary knowledge to crafting fantasy technologies. [Type: (Solar-punk) (Steam-punk) (Chem-punk) (Arcane-punk)]
It definitely wasn't what he was expecting. Electronic items had a reputation for not working in the magical world. The fact that he now had a way to circumvent this flaw could spell a major shift to wizarding society as a whole.
"The only downside I can see is that unlike the others it'll take significantly more time and resources to make it useful. Might even have to get well acquainted with this world's current technology to know just what I'm talking about," he finished with a sighed, dreading the idea of even more studying.
(Elementalism) Immunity: You gain immunity to any one element of your choosing.
(Elementalism) Mastery: You can manipulate elements at will without the need of your wand. (Require: Immunity of the chosen element)
(Elementalism) Avatar: You can take the form of a chosen element and gain all of its characteristics. (Require: Mastery of the chosen element)
It didn't seem really impressive compared to the others but seeing as it was on the list Adam decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. Though the fact that it was the only one to function on a tree system was surprising.
In conclusion talents were powerful tools that could help him greatly but weren't at all necessary. Magic in this world was already pretty powerful, having only a few limitations. So even if he chose a crappy talent, it wouldn't be the end of the world.
By the time he finished mulling over which talent to get, the potatoes had had finished cooking, so he sat down and ate his dinner in silence briefly lamenting the lack of tv or smartphone.
"Just two more weeks before Hogwarts," he told himself as he finished the last of the potatoes.
What worried him was the fact that his parent had yet to return from their trip. It wasn't the first time that they had left him alone for an extended period of time, but it had already been a month without even a letter. At this rate he would have to contact the Ministry or one of the teachers to tell them he needed help just getting to school. Just his luck that his parents decided to live in Iceland instead of anywhere close to the British Isles. He very much doubted the Knightbus would cross the sea just for him.
"If all else fails I suppose I can always just fly on a broom to get there, though I'd first need to learn the disillusionment charm to make sure normal people don't see me," he thought with amusement.
Pulling up his system again he pulled up the only other tab he had access to.
Resources
Energy: 5/5
Gold: 2097
Gems: 50
He still wasn't sure what energy and gems did, but gold had been simple enough to understand. One gold coin was equal to one Galleon, 5 Pounds, or about 9 Dollars. It seemed like gold could be converted into different types of currency, but the opposite wasn't possible, as trying to exchange normal currency into gold only made it appear in the inventory.
He was sure he would learn more once the shop tab was unlocked.
Once he confirmed the addition of the 100 gold from the quest, he moved to the talent lab ready to make his choice.
A/N: As you can see, I am not dead! - T'Challa
Anyways I started writing this on my spare time, using my phone so sorry about the mistakes and stuff. I'll get around to fixing them later.
I'll be trying something new by taking reader's choices into account. Not for everything or every chapter but occasionally I'll through in a set of options that you can choose from. Just write down your choices in the comments. I'll let wait a few days 2-3 before starting to write the next chapter when that is the case.
I'll put the full list of rules I made for the system in a sperate story later that y'all can reference or even use for your own fanfics if y'all really want.
As for the first question.
What's the first talent Adam should Adam?
A: (Artificer) Mimic Item
B: (Psionics) Stand
C: (Technomancy) Network
D: Other
Thanks for reading bye :)
