The four tried to keep the party at a pitch. Party Favor managed to keep up, unhindered by the growing storm around them. Sugar Belle was not having the best time as all her warm food was quickly freezing up before she could even serve it. Night Glider made her emotions clear, unable to enjoy the mountains she came all this way for. Despite the problems, the citizens of this lowly village tried to be happy on this day.
However, Party Favor was not enjoying himself. This day was supposed to be the biggest day of his life. The day he would make everything right with his friends and allies. Now, all his fireworks were going blank from the cold. His feet felt like lead as his fingers slowly went numb from the biting winds.
The other three wanted to smile, even if things weren't going perfectly. They could at least be together on this anniversary. But the sweat on Party Favor's face spoke volumes about how he felt on this day. It hurt Double Diamond to see his friend pushing himself this hard, even if he didn't show it.
Things were going great especially as the first snow fell upon them. This wasn't the saving grace they expected. Rather the first drop hit down like a sharp knife, hitting one of the earth ponies in the shoulder. The pony cried out in pain, holding their arm and falling back. Two partygoers noticed and called over Party Favor.
"What happened?" He asked. His eyes widened at the shard of ice on the ground.
"I don't know, he just screamed and now there is all this blood." One of the partygoers stepped back and let him work to clean up the wound while the other went in search of Double Diamond.
"What's going on here!?" Double Diamond quickly came over, using his horn to pick up the pony and carry him inside.
"Oh, thank you so much! I don't know what happened. They were just playing then the snow-" Party Favor was stopped as another shard dropped down. This was even bigger and impaled his leg into the ground. His scream of agony stopped all forms of partying instantly.
Everypony nearby watched in horror as Double Diamond dropped the pony he was carrying to rush over to Party Favor. Sugar Belle barely managed to catch the pony and move him into safety. She tried to call out to Double Diamond for the reckless action, but he was too distracted by Party Favor's pain.
Double Diamond grabbed the shard with all his might and yanked it out. He screamed too as the edges tore up his hands. He could see the blood gushing out but he had to focus. His eyes raced up to see Party Favor frowning at him and the pain they were both going through. Despite the horror of this, the two found themselves staring at each other rather longer than they were expected to.
"You two get out of there!" Night Glider called out to them and pointed to more shards falling from the sky. Both broke their gaze as more ponies rushed inside. The ones that didn't make it were stabbed, and gashed and battered as hundreds of icy shards fell from the sky.
"Come on, we have to get inside the main house!" Sugar Belle yelled to Double Diamond, pushing him towards the entrance. He carried Party Favor over his shoulder and even helped out the other pony he dropped, bringing them all inside.
The unicorn barely had time to shut the door with his horn before his magic turned into just sparks. He was caught off guard by this, but not as much as Night Glider falling from the air. Party Favor's strength faded without warning, causing him to tumble down under the weight of his own body and torn leg.
"What's wrong!?" Sugar Belle called out to the three of them.
"I don't know..." Night Glider flapped her wings, but couldn't catch any air at all. "Something's happening..." She gestured to Double Diamond for answers.
He tried to channel magic but only sparks fizzled out. "I don't know... I can't feel any magic... at all." His face became so pale.
The other unicorns around him tried to match his magic with their own horns only to get the same result. It quickly became clear across the entire room, all their magic was fading. No matter the species, all their powers were suddenly nothing at all.
"What is going on here?!" One of the earth ponies started to panic.
"It's the ice... it must be doing something." One of the others tried to accuse.
"That might be it for them, but what about us?!" A unicorn in the corner argued. "I was on the porch, nowhere near that ice!"
"It has to be something!" They pushed back.
The room quickly filled with complaints and accusations. All of them wanted answers, but none of their ideas were leading them anywhere. This led back to the four who started this party. They were always treated as the leaders, even when they didn't want to be, but even now, no answers came.
Instead, the worst came from outside. Loud bellowing screams echoed through the walls. They rushed to the windows only to see a high-flying griffin dropped down at high speeds, ripping his body apart on impact. This gruesome scene was only the first as other flying creatures followed suit. Some of them were completely intact, and still very much alive even as their limbs were broken and their wings were twisted from the forces of the falls. Their screams were only being silenced as shards of ice peppered over them.
The inside of the house fell into panic. All of them back away from windows, fearing the same fate. The screams and shrieks only became more blood-soaked. Some ponies tried to cover their ears only to find it made little difference. The ponies even went as far as to cover their eyes only to feel the sharp pain at the back of their minds, as if it was torturing them directly.
Soon enough, though, the agony outside came to a cold stop. Party Favor was the first to peek over the window. Followed by Double Diamond, then Night Glider, and finally Sugar Belle. The outside looked like the grizzliest of war zones. Party Favor watched in horror at how many had been lost.
However, there was a greater confusion. Two pegasi landed in the center of the scene. Both moved as if they were never under the same effect that clearly killed and brutalized every creature outside. Even stranger was upon looking closer at one of the pegasus. No, this wasn't a pegasus at all or rather one he had never seen before. Four wings and in his hand, a mask crowned with broken horns. The other looked just as odd, covered in a black bodysuit from head to toe and mouth zip shut.
