Power of Family
Chapter 9
The Masters and Princesses and their friends soon gathered in the great hall.
"Adora, Catra" questioned Randor looking out the window at the damages done to his city "who were those three trouble makers?".
"And how do you know them?" asked Glimmer exchanging looks of confusion and concern with Bow.
"Yeah and why did the magical one call you her sisters" added Mermista.
"Because…she was once like our big sister" said Adora with a sigh as she began the tale.
"Her name is Raven, and she used to be Shadow Weaver's apprentice" she explained to their shock before Catra took up the tale "before us she and her two partners Seth and Glitch were the Horde's rising stars".
"Seth descends from the Beast folk of Etheria, like Force Captain Grizzlor…he's like the Horde version of Beast Man" explained Adora to the non-Etherians "he's the fighter of the three and if I'm being honest he taught us most of what we know".
Catra took up the explanation "Glitch is the hacker; she might have trouble focusing on things and her mood tends to be a bit flippy" she explained "but she's definitely someone you want on your side if it involves technology…truth be told she's a lot like Entrapta" she mentioned the scientist Princess of Dryl that was still on Etheria.
"And the last but in no way least is Raven" Adora said as she looked across the room "she was one of the few Cadets in the Horde to be permitted to use Magic, she's a natural leader and…someone I've looked up to my whole life" she confessed as Catra but a comforting hand on her shoulder.
"The three on their own would be someone you wouldn't want to fight" said Catra before gesturing out the window "and you've already seen what they can do together".
The Princesses and Masters exchanged looks, both groups taking in the knowledge of the large presence their three new enemies clearly once held in their friends lives.
"Eh if these guys are as good as you say then where they in the war?" questioned Mermista giving her two friends her classic detective look she got whenever she talked about Mer-mysteries, the murder mystery book series she liked "and if you guys looked up to them so much why are we only hearing about them now?".
Adora and Catra exchanged uncertain looks before turning back to their audience "This was the first time we saw them in years" Adora confessed.
"And the last time we saw them…was when they tried to overthrow Hordak" Catra revealed to their shock.
"They got tired of all the constant fighting" explained Adora, remembering how angry and tired the three often looked when returning from missions "they also got fed up following Hordak's orders, they felt like since he was never in the fights he didn't deserve his throne".
"They convinced a lot of other soldiers to turn against him and Shadow Weaver" Adora went on "Raven used the quote Victory is Freedom and Freedom is Victory to inspire them saying that true victory would be in freeing themselves and to claim their freedom they had to fight for it".
"But Hordak knew about their plan" Catra revealed "he had defences ready, so the three decided to deal with him and Shadow Weaver personally, they even gave us a front row seat" she said becoming lost in the memory
Flashback
Hordak's sanctum was in ruins. Glitch held Adora and Catra close as in one corner Raven and Shadow Weaver hurled blasts of purple and red magic at one another while in the other Seth and Hordak were trying to beat the stuffing out of each other.
"What a disappointment you turned out to be" crooned Shadow Weaver sending a wave of flames at her now former apprentice who countered with bolts of purple lightning.
"I'm disappointed myself" she confessed narrowing her eyes in hate "disappointed I ever wasted my time with a hag like you" she snapped.
Seth and Hordak traded furious blows till the warlord pushed the younger fighter away.
"I will admit it you've put up a better fight then I anticipated" he declared before reaching into his cloak and pulled out a handle and pressed a button on the side drawing a retractable sword blade "I will give you a death befitting warrior's like us".
"You are no warrior" Seth declared pulling his sai from his belt and held them at the ready "and the only death tonight will be yours".
The two clashed their weapons in a furious display of aggression but soon Seth began to tire and Hordak soon had him pushed to the ground.
"SETH" yelled Raven dropping her focus allowing shadow Weaver to blast her to the ground.
The two Horde leaders stalked to the traitorous prodigies, only for a hover skiff to burst through the wall having been remotely summoned by Glitch.
"Were getting out of here" said Raven as she and Seth got to their feet "and your both coming with" she said about to grab Adora and Catra's hands only for them to be magically pulled to Shadow Weaver's side.
Raven could hear the sound of approaching Horde soldiers and sent her two beloved little sisters one last look "I'll come back for you both I promise" she cried before getting onto the skiff with Seth and Glitch.
The three drove the skiff threw the walls of the main complex and were soon zooming out of the Fright Zone and were soon out of sight.
End Flashback
"And that was the last time we ever saw them" said Adora gazing out the window sadly "until today that is".
The Masters and Princesses exchanged looks, it was quite clear that these three were very important to Adora and Catra growing up, and their desertion undoubtedly had a lasting effect on them.
"They said they were looking for something" said Glimmer "does anyone have any idea on what that could be?" she asked.
"I don't know" said Randor "but based on the fact that they've apparently been prolonging the war in the Dark Hemisphere to cover their search, whatever it is cant be something good".
