Miki had been waiting eagerly for Kiran to return from work so when she heard the door knob start to shift with the movement of a key, she practically sprang up to greet him. She rushed to the door and once it opened she hugged him. "Bunny, you're back!" Kiran looked down at her and pat her on the back, absentmindedly pulling away from her. Miki looked up at Kiran with a hurt expression as she watched him walk off. "Bunny..? Did something happen.?" He kept walking off, ignoring the girl's question.
Miki's ears flattened against her head as she went to sit back down on the couch, bringing her knees to her chest and curling her tail around her ankles. 'His mission must not have gone well…'
Over the next few days, Kiran was very distant. He did everything he could to avoid Miki. What she didn't realize was that he was doing it to avoid scaring her. While on his mission, he accidentally used the shadow part of his ability too much, causing him to become more aggressive. He knew he was hurting her by being so distant and secretive, but he couldn't risk her being scared of him. He was supposed to do everything to protect her. How was he supposed to do that if Miki was scared of him?
Miki watched him from across the room longingly. She wanted to hug him so bad. It had been days since he flashed his usual affectionate smile at her. "Kiran..?" She called out and he looked over at her, a mix of angry and annoyed. "What?" Her eyes widened slightly from his tone and she just stared at him, small tears filing the corners of her eyes. "I-I'm sorry…" She whispered before rushing off to her room and locking the door behind her. She slipped down to the floor, burying her face in her hands as she choked on a sob.
Kiran took a moment to process what he just did. He stared off in the direction of Miki's room with a guilty expression adorning his face. He didn't know what to do. He desperately wanted to apologize to Miki, but he was terrified of scaring her further. It would be hard enough for him to regain Miki's trust without her being ball out terrified of him. He let out a long, drawn out sigh as he leaned back and covered his face with his hands. "I'm so sorry Angel…" He whispered under his breath before getting up to go to work. He had to fix this. He had to regain balance so he wouldn't hurt his love anymore.
Kiran quickly wrote a letter for Miki and left it in front of her bedroom door. He left quietly and quickly to go to work. Miki eventually came out of her room and wiped her eyes, looking down at the letter. She carefully picked it up and began to read it.
Dear Miki,
I'm so sorry for scaring you. I promise I haven't been avoiding you because of anything you did. My ability causes my balance to go out of wack when I use one part of it more than another and I've been trying to fix it. I promise I will make things right. I love you so much, Angel.
With love,
Kiran
Miki stared at the letter with slightly shaky hands. "I love you too…" She whispered shakily, clutching the letter to her chest. She took the letter to her room and waited for him to return. She began nervously pacing around as awaited his return.
He returned a few days later to find Miki asleep on the couch, wrapped in his blanket and wearing one of his hoodies. He slowly walked to her and gently took her into his arms, sitting in a crouched position next to the couch. "I'm so sorry for hurting you…." He whispered and held her tighter. He looked down when Miki groaned softly as her eyes opened. "Kiran..?" She murmured sleepily, slowly clinging to him out of instinct.
He pressed a kiss to her forehead. "It's okay, Angel.. I'm back to normal. I promise…" He whispered, pressing his forehead to her own. Miki hastily hugged him tightly. "Thank goodness… I missed you…" She squeaked out with a shaky sob. Kiran started to gently move to lay down on the couch, resting Miki on his chest. "Just rest, baby. It's all going to be okay now. I promise… I'll do better to keep from letting myself overuse certain parts of my ability…"
Kiran smiled softly as he gently played with Miki's hair, humming a soft tune as well to help her rest peacefully. He was so glad he no longer had to avoid Miki. He could hardly stand being away from her for work, but being away from her while at home? Well that was practically torture.
No matter…
It's all over now.
