Hi everybody,

It's been a while since my last update. I just wanted to inform you that I am still writing even though in the last few months I have not been able to concentrate so much due to the war and the situation in my country. It's hard to find the time to just sit down and write something happy with everything going on outside that has been so awful.

I have already accepted that the situation will not improve in the near future and am simply writing to try and get something good out of these bad times.

I will continue to update as much as I can and try to respond to everyone who sent me messages and knows the situation from my side.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the new chapter.

Chapter 10: Acting normal

The redheaded girl was still laying in her bed after her last talk with her partner. That call had left her body weak and almost unresponsive thanks to what she'd heard, more than she had ever been before.

'I'm going out with her now…' the words kept repeating in Kim's head, echoing in her thoughts, taunting her more with every passing second. 'That bitch… she just waited for me to be away so she could try her luck. Hell, maybe even Bonnie is in on it and she was stalling me to give Tara time to act…' Kim couldn't help but ponder, her anger bubbling violently.

The heroine suddenly recalled that Ron himself claimed he'd been the one to ask Tara out, all while having a big smile plastered on his handsome face. Her anger turned into frustration, hands balling into fists and turning white. After a few seconds Kim seemed to calm down, palms opening up and falling onto the soft mattress.

'Damn it… why now?' the girl questioned, more annoyed at herself than anything. She honestly couldn't blame Bonnie this time, the brunette didn't seem to have actually taken an active role in this. Kim couldn't blame Tara for saying yes either, as if any girl could say no to someone like her partner. And she definitely couldn't blame Ron.

Kim only really had herself to blame, she hadn't kept a close enough eye on him. Leaving Ron on his own, when she knew for a fact that a few girls in their year were interested in him? Definitely not the best idea. Now? She had to deal with the consequences.

Kim didn't want to get up, despite it already being morning. The same feeling still lingered deep inside her chest, making the normally energetic girl act like a tired and weak mess despite the wild thoughts running through her mind. How would he act if she didn't go to school with him in the morning? Even if it was something relatively minor, like walking together every day, if she started to act differently now it would only cause more issues later down the road for her.

"It's fine… Tara is too much of a coward to keep things up with Ron…" the redhead reassured herself as she quickly finished getting ready. "Ron will get bored of her… And our missions will make things harder for her…" By this point Kim had already left her room, making her way downstairs to have breakfast with the tweebs before heading out.

She hadn't received any calls from Ron since yesterday, this was already the fourth time she'd glanced at her phone just to make sure… Despite the fact that she'd definitely hear if she did receive a call. 'God, I'm panicking over nothing… I'll just wait a bit and catch him at home…' Kim reasoned, changing her destination to Ron's house.

With a slight smile on her face, she moved to the Stoppable household. Even if it might take a little longer, it was well worth it if only to see him first thing in the morning. Kim doubted there was enough time to have some fun with Ron today, seeing as she'd sulked for too long, Kim would simply have to make it up to him next time. With that final thought the girl arrived at his home and made her way inside.

'Damn it… how could I have missed him?' Kim mused, already regretting not calling Ron beforehand. She finally resigned herself to making her way to school, though the journey only seemed to highlight how lonesome it was without him.

'This sucks…' Kim groused to herself. She'd always known how special he was, this moment only seemed to prove her point. Especially with how quiet it was without Ron nearby.

"Red!" a familiar voice called out, prompting Kim to turn around.

'And now I'm regretting it not being quiet…' Kim watched as Bonnie, of all people, approached her. "This day just keeps getting better and better…" Kim muttered quietly. "Bonnie… what do you want?" the redhead challenged, not wasting any time in showing her school rival how much she appreciated her company.

"Nice to see you too… I'm surprised to see you without your friend…" the brunette shot back, ignoring the hostile expression Kim was offering her.

"Why do you even care?"

"I'm not sure…" Bonnie admitted, looking ahead. "Maybe because Tara called me yesterday and told me about them going out…"

Kim's face morphed into a frown upon recalling that little detail as well.

"Ah, so she was telling the truth…" Bonnie observed. "And here I thought Tara lied to me or something… especially when she swore that he was the one who asked her out…"

'So, the blonde bimbo's already bragged about it… And to Bonnie, of all people… great…'

"It's pretty interesting to see that he has the guts to go and ask a cheerleader out, him being so low on the food chain and all…" the brunette remarked.

"Ron is not a part of your food chain" Kim warned, though she didn't get the reaction she wanted.

Instead of shutting up, the young Rockwell simply waved the remark off, like it wasn't a big deal. "I know, Red… Hell, if anything, him convincing Tara to agree should really boost his popularity… Not that he seems to care…"

Kim scowled harder and harder the more Bonnie continued talking, for some reason finding her more irritating than usual. When the brunette insulted her friend it was annoying, yes. But to hear some lackluster form of acceptance from Bonnie was really pissing Kim off, so much so that she wondered if she'd snap and hurt her so-called rival if this continued.

The angry redhead's attention was diverted upon spotting her dear partner with a blonde accessory that was walking way too close to him. The scene would have been much more annoying if the pair were alone, instead Ron and Tara were surrounded by girls from the Middleton High Cheer Squad.

The cheerleaders didn't seem to mind his presence in the slightest, even as Bonnie moved to join them.

Kim examined Ron's expression, 'he looks so cool with them…' The redhead's fists clenched once more, her anger simmering for a bit before evolving into something different. She instantly turned around and walked away from the group and her friend.

Even if Kim had promised herself she'd act as normally as she could, it was still quite hard to see him walking around with someone else.

X-=-=-X

The blonde Stoppable tried to act like he hadn't noticed his best friend stalking away without even greeting him. Although he was currently with the cheer squad, that wasn't anything new or crazy. Ron refocused on the blonde girl next to him, Tara's friends badgering her about when he'd asked her out. Fortunately, for some reason, he didn't really feel all too embarrassed about it.

Ron wasn't really sure what had changed about him lately, but he was certain it had something to do with his partner.

"Well… color me surprised to actually see you here…" Bonnie remarked as soon as she'd gotten close to the group. "If this keeps up, I might expect it from now on…"

The rest of the team didn't respond, even if Tara looked like she desperately wanted to. Ron's eyebrow rose, he stared at Bonnie for a moment before shrugging. "I'm not sure what you mean… we're on the same team and see each other every day…" Ron pointed out, though he understood exactly what the brunette was implying.

Bonnie didn't look surprised by the reply, nodding curtly. "True, but you usually run off with Kim for one of your little assignments…"

"Bonbon, you can't just describe us rushing away to save the day as… running off…"

The girl simply shrugged. "I still don't buy it… you could always try and prove me wrong…"

Ron laughed. "Taking someone else on one of our missions to prove a point? I'll take a hard pass on that…"

"Aww… and here I thought you'd actually want to prove Bonnie wrong… It'll be easy, just take her along and shut her up once and for all!" one of the other cheerleaders, Hope, interjected trying to goad the blonde.

"Ohh… tempting… But no, not worth it. Someone might get hurt and I'm not taking that chance."

"Lame…" Jessica groaned, implying that most of the squad felt the same way Hope did.

Tara smiled, happy to see all her friends getting along rather well with her blonde crush. Now all she needed to do was make sure things went smoothly with him and (if she was lucky) maybe get him to pay more attention to her than he did Kim. It was a huge hurdle to clear, but Tara was nothing if not stubborn when it came to getting something she wanted.

X-=-=-=-X

Kim muttered to herself, barely holding back from headbutting her locker. Just how could she have run away from him like that? Her best friend… and for what? Because she was scared? Just what did Kim have to be afraid of? She'd handled villains and world ending plots! Compared to that, this was nothing!

"Hey, girl!" someone shouted from behind Kim, making her nearly jump out of her skin. "Whoa, someone's a bit jumpy… Is there some crazy emergency I, and the rest of the school, should know about?" Monique teased, glancing around in an overly dramatic way.

"Morning, Mon… And no, the bad guys know better than to try and hit me while I'm at school… This is like a no-go zone for them… Besides, they can pretty much guess that if they cross that line? Then all bets are off…" Kim responded plainly, using the mundane topic to calm her nerves that had become frayed over the situation with her blonde best friend.

"Wow, that sounded kind of threatening… No wonder they keep away from school…" the fashionista commented.

Kim looked a bit worried; she'd only explained the obvious and wasn't trying to sound threatening. What if she said something bad when Ron was around?

"You doing okay, Kim?

"Yes, I'm fine!" the heroine snapped, a bit of annoyance in her tone. Kim took a few seconds to realize how that had sounded. "S-Sorry Mon, I'm just… I didn't really get enough sleep last night, so I'm a bit off my game…"

The black-haired girl examined her friend for a few seconds before sighing. "Yeah, I figured out that something was off… It's cool, as long as you're willing to help me find a cute guy!" Monique chirped, her mood seeming to shift in a split-second.

Kim smiled at how easily Monique had let her off the hook. "What makes you think I know any cute guys?" the redhead challenged.

"Well, what about Ron?"

Kim's response was almost instantaneous, her book bag dropping to the floor, she stared at her friend in shock. "R-Ron?! What about h-him?"

Monique's eyebrow rose. "Um… because he's a guy? Maybe he knows a few guys who could be cool? You sure you're okay?"

Kim quickly calmed down, carefully thinking about what the fashionista had pointed out. "Oh, right… Well, Ron knows a lot of people but never actually hangs out with them that much…" Mostly because of her. "Heck, a lot of them are mostly detention buddies…" She noticed Monique's disappointed expression. "Well, what about Felix?" the redhead added.

"Felix? What about him?" She wasn't sure what Kim meant.

"Felix? You know, our little tech friend?" the heroine elaborated, feeling a bit defensive of her other male friend.

"I know Felix, but he's one of my friends…" The fashionista glanced to the side. "It's… it's kind of awkward to try and ask your-" Monique started to explain.

As Kim heard those fateful words her partner's face flashed in her mind. "So what?" she suddenly interrupted, drawing Monique's eyes again. "Even if he's your friend, that doesn't mean that you can't-" Now it was Kim's words that were cut off, as she noticed that her friend was no longer meeting her gaze.

Turning her head, Kim identified what had drawn the fashionista's attention. Walking a short distance away from the two were a pair of blondes that seemed to radiate happiness. She could only watch once more as that girl pranced about while holding hands with her Ron, not paying attention to anything other than him, all while wearing that annoying smile of hers.

"Wow, looks like someone's in a good mood… I didn't know that Ron and Tara were a thing."

"They aren't…" Kim responded coldly, glaring daggers at said blonde girl.

"Oh, really? Could've fooled me…" Monique replied, noticing that the two were coming closer to them. "Hey there, Mr. Popular!" she warmly greeted her friend, eyeing the girl still hanging off his arm.

"Morning, Mon! KP! the blonde sidekick returned with a happy smile.

"Aren't you forgetting something? Maybe like introducing your friend to us?" the fashionista chided, staring at the blonde girl.

Ron and Tara glanced at each other, before the boy offered the dark-haired girl a confused expression. "Um… Mon? You already know Tara, you know, from the cheer squad-"

Monique slapped his arm, "I know that doofus! I meant the whole two of you walking around together thing. Anything new that you want to share?" the girl clarified.

"Oh! Right, obviously!" Ron looked to his blonde tagalong, as if silently asking for permission. He received a smile from her and took that as confirmation. "Well, we're actually going out!" he informed his friend with a grin.

"Oh, really?!" Monique grinned sheepishly. "And who was it that asked who?"

Ron glanced off to the side. "I did, actually-" the blonde boy admitted, launching into an explanation of how everything went down. Monique seemed pleased with her friend, the blondes and fashionista entirely occupied with the story, everyone missing the expression on Kim's face.

The redhead looked awfully annoyed at the blonde girl, glancing briefly at Ron's happy smile. Kim found this whole situation extraordinarily surreal, as well as more than a little difficult to accept. She wanted to run away again, but her feet remained firmly planted to the floor. Kim had already resorted to that when he'd been with the rest of the cheer squad, if she did so again it was more than likely that he'd notice.

Kim wasn't sure what she'd say or do if he brought it up…

X-=-=-=-X

Monique wasn't blind, or an idiot, she'd pretty much instantly noticed that something wasn't right with her redheaded bestie. Yes, she might have let it slide to spare her friend a grilling, but it wasn't like she couldn't get the necessary information from a different source… Monique was an awfully nosey person at the end of the day.

Finding her target was an easy thing, having spotted him walking towards the gymnasium, it was a lucky break that he was currently alone.

"Hey, Ron! Wait up!" she shouted, making him stop in his tracks and turn around.

"Hey Mon, what's up?" the blonde Stoppable asked. When he tried to resume walking once more, she grabbed his shoulder to stop him.

"Wait a minute… what's the rush?"

"The rush- You know, practice?" he responded, not sure why Monique was stopping him. "I had a few things to take care of in class, so…"

"Oh, that must be why you're not heading there with Kim…" she finished for him, Ron nodding in response. 'Perfect…' Monique made an understanding sound before glancing at the doors to the gymnasium. "It's actually convenient that I ran into you. I've been kind of looking to ask Kim something, but I might as well just ask you."

Ron didn't seem bothered. "Yeah, sure thing, fire away!" the blonde teen encouraged, offering the same level of enthusiasm he usually had on tap.

'A bit too laid back for it to be something worldwide or serious, at least there's that…' the fashionista mused, calming down a bit before springing her real question. "I was just thinking, did anything seem… off to you about Kim?"

Ron looked confused, glancing away in thought. "I don't think so… there haven't been any missions lately-" Monique suddenly cut him off.

"You sure? I just got the feeling she was acting… different…"

"Different?" he parroted.

The girl nodded, moving closer before leaning in next to his ear. "Yeah, like it wasn't something normal… didn't she look different to you?"

Ron was quiet for a few moments and it seemed like something serious crossed his mind, so much so that he glanced away.

The fashionista obviously noticed and was ready to pry when she saw Ron's attention snap straight ahead of them. The sound of the gymnasium's doors bursting open filled the hallway, followed by rapid footsteps approaching the pair.

"Ronnie!" a happy voice called out, as they watched a blonde girl rush over to stand rather close to the young Stoppable. "There you are! I was starting to think you had another thing you had to do with the captain."

"With the- …wait, is Kim not with you girls?" he asked, the rest of the team emerging from the gymnasium.

"No, that's why we cut things short… we all waited for both of you" Bonnie replied with an annoyed huff. "The least you could do is tell us if you're cancelling…"

"Sorry Bonnie, I'm not sure why KP didn't show up… Well, I'm sure that it had to be something important" he swore. This wouldn't be the first time his redheaded partner had to cut practice, or class, short due to some emergency or another. The fact that she hadn't talked to anyone else beforehand only cemented the idea in Ron's mind.

"Whatever… I suppose it's as good a chance as any to take a break from Little Miss Perfect…" Bonnie turned around and started walking off, the rest of the team following her lead as they always did.

"So… that means you're free now, right Ronnie?" Tara asked sweetly, hands linked behind her back as she puffed her generous chest out. He quickly glanced at his Ronunicator, just to make sure he hadn't received any messages from either Kim or Wade. There were none.

"Yeah, I guess I am."

"Perfect, that means we can start our date earlier!"

Ron nodded before asking, "when were you thinking?"

Tara grabbed his arm, then started pulling him away. "Right now! I want you as soon as I can, for as long as I can!" the peppy blonde chirped, guiding him towards the exit.

"Yeah, that's fine with me! Hey Mon, I'll see you later!" Ron shouted out, before leaving school with his girlfriend.

Monique was left a little impressed with the blonde cheerleader. "Damn, that girl is thirsty… I wonder how long it'll be until she makes him snap?" The idea amused her, at least until the thought of her friend getting a date before her finally hit home. Something had to be really wrong for that to happen.

Monique also headed out of school, pulling out her phone. 'I wonder if Kim is free yet…'
