POV: Jack
"Do you think he'll be all right?" A voice reached my ear. It sounds so familiar...
"Don't worry..." A second voice. The voice got softer until it was so quiet that I could no longer understand it... Then distancing footsteps. Then they came closer again. "Come back around soon... That tells me belly... "
The voice fell silent... I know those voices... But I can't remember... " Jack... Jack... Can you hear me? Jack..." Someone else... I know this one for sure... But who is this Jack...
"He can't hear you, Tooth..." Tooth? Strange name... If only I could open my eyes... I strained to them. I wanted to. Had to... Wanted to see who was standing around me. I couldn't do it. I couldn't.
A sob. "So bedtime's over, frostbite. Get up." Something furry and extremely cuddly smacked me in the face.
"BUNNY!" someone screeched. I could move again. OK... Moving is a bit exaggerated , rather moan and let my arm twitch... Why can't I do more than that?
"Well done rabbit!" roared the second voice again. "He's stirring!" Are they talking about me? Or is there someone else lying next to me? "Hmn." Was that just me?
"He's giving loud." I'm not a dog!
"Jack... Jack..." Someone gently shakes my shoulder... "What...?" I opened my eyes. And was scared to death...
Directly above me was a monster. A woman with purple eyes and feathers on her face. I carefully peeked past her. Are those wings?! She was mainly green and resembled a sparrow... A sparrow? Sparrows aren't green... But did I even know any other bird species?
"Oh you poor tooth!" The sparrow woman wrapped her arms around my neck and pulled me into a sitting position. The next shock was inevitable.
There stood a little yellow boy, a kangaroo and a fat grandpa in red. The sight was so shocking that I almost had to laugh. Almost. After all, I had just been squashed by a monster.
"Air," I gasped. The monster instantly let go of me. "Oh God. I'm sorry... I'm just so glad you're okay. You scared me to death!" I scared it? It scared me!
"Um... With what exactly?" I was confused. Completely confused. I was... Uh, well... Where was I? Why was I here? Who are they? Who am I?
"Isn't it obvious, club? Tooth was bawling his eyes out when you were lying there so lifeless." I widened my eyes. The kangaroo had spoken! The kangaroo was talking. Why can the animal talk? I furrowed my brow.
" You're exaggerating, Bunny. " said the feather woman. Apparently she felt addressed by Tooth. Obviously she was mentally disturbed. Why else would you just cover yourself with feathers? With nothing else to cover yourself. In that sense that would make her naked. Having come to this realization, I felt myself blushing.
Then I noticed something else. "Wait a minute, bunny?" The others looked at me, slightly confused. But it was me who was confused here!
"You call the kangaroo a bunny?" The yellow boy slapped his forehead with the flat of his hand without making a sound. Tooth and the animal audibly sucked in their breath, while Grandpa grabbed his white beard and widened his eyes.
"Kangaroo? I'm a bunny! THE EASTER BUNNY! If he can make jokes like that, he's doing well! " growled the Easter kangaroo.
"Easter bunny, right? Sure, and I'm Santa Claus," I mocked the talking wonder animal.
"Nope, that's me," Grandpa intervened. The little boy slapped his hand over his forehead again. Not very talkative.
"OK..." I drew that out extra long. "Sorry to interrupt your costume party, but I think I have to go now... Which way out of here?"
"Costume party? What's a costume party?" Grandpa took a step towards me. I swallowed. Maybe they all had mental problems and would kill me if I said the wrong thing. I forced myself to stay calm.
"um... Nice talking to you..." I said and jumped to my feet, ready to flee.
However, black dots began to dance in front of my eyes and I swayed briefly before my legs buckled. So much for escape. Because the very one I was trying to escape from had protected me from an awkward embrace with the ground.
"Sorry... I... Just felt a bit dizzy... I'm fine...thanks" I could already feel that I was pale. I went to the back of my head with my hand, which had started to hurt and flinched when I found the source of the pain. I couldn't suppress a soft groan.
What was that? Something warm was sticking to my fingers and running down them. I brought my hand forward and... Looked at blood...
Blood... Blood... Blood... I can't see blood... Blood... Blood... Blood... Someone grabbed my shoulder. "Dude, are you OK?"
"I'm bleeding..." I breathed. My pulse was racing. My heart was pounding irregularly and painfully, making me more dizzy. "Yes, and not too short. You've really soiled North's place with that stuff. I can't believe you haven't noticed!" the Easter kangaroo said with an enthusiasm that made me feel sick.
I turned my head in the fat grandpa's arms and looked at the floor. And the blood... So much blood... I already feel queasy when I cut my finger... As if in a far distance, the words of the feather woman reached my ear...
"You really hit your head hard... We really didn't know what to do...", Her voice became more and more indistinct, the outlines blurred, until all I could hear was a beeping and I saw red.
Blood... The image alternated with black, but in the end it stayed black. The beeping stopped. I welcomed the blackout.
