Power Rangers PLUS ULTRA!

Prologue

They said to never meet your heroes.

Midoriya Izuku never understood why they said that… till now.

Since childhood, he had idolized All Might, the man who laughed in the face of uncertainty. The hero who taught him that everything can be solved if he did not stop smiling… if he did not give up hope.

And now, the same man was repeating the same words Bakugou and his underlings had, and even though his voice was gentle and coaxing, instead of hateful and condescending, his words did the one thing various bullies had failed to do many times over.

He really can't be a hero, can he?

Earth-2807

Year 2023

Minh Kwan forced herself up from her bed, as she saw the sunlight creak in from the gap in the curtains. She had already silenced the alarms on her phone, and despite the exhaustion, she knew she wouldn't be able to sleep even if she laid down on the bed again.

She hadn't been able to sleep a single second last night, though she had really tried, but her thoughts kept going back to her mom.

And how unfair life was.

She shouldn't complain.

She had Uncle Zack and the others taking care of her, and that was more than others in her situation had. Even after losing her parents, she had a family, and she was grateful for it every day, but that didn't make up for the absence of her mother.

Somedays, it was bearable.

Other days, she couldn't concentrate on anything.

How could she?

School exams did little to hassle her anymore.

Nothing seemed important.

She knew she shouldn't be doing this… Thinking about how miserable everything was only added to her pain, but she couldn't help herself.

Life wasn't fair.

Other kids were living blissful lives with both their parents and even grandparents healthy and happy… Why was she the one deprived of her parents?

Her parents had been good and kind. They had never indulged in vices, and yet they were the ones gone.

Heck, she should stop this and think about something else, for despite all her pain, she knew one thing with absolute certainty that others with lost loved ones did not.

Even if it was very briefly, she had met the spirits of her parents in the afterlife, and they had assured her that they were always with her, looking after her.

She knew they were at peace.

Moreover, she had seen her mother's murderer face justice. Rita Repulsa could not hurt anyone anymore.

Then, why couldn't she move on with her life?

Aunty Kim would say that she should give it more time, take things slow.

Uncle Billy would tell her to be kind on herself.

Uncle Jason would tell her to distract herself by watching a movie or binge something on Netflix.

Uncle Tommy would instruct her to meditate.

Uncle Zack would sit down with cups of chamomile tea and listen to her while she broke down.

She had been through his before, and every time, they had been there for her, even though they were hurting too.

She should not burden them with her pathetic inability to process her own feelings.

It had been three months after her mom's first death anniversary.

She had spent more than a year without her.

If she could survive that, she could survive anything.

Minh shook her head, opening the curtains and letting the daylight illuminate her room. She promptly tied her hair in a neat bun, before making her way to the bathroom, and splashing her face with tap water.

She can do this.

The first step to fixing her life was restoring her sleep cycle. She couldn't fall asleep today till night, which was going to be hard since it was a Sunday and she had no school to keep herself busy with. She would catch up on some of the pending coursework and watch some series or maybe catch up on the latest season of "The Big Bad Beetleborgs."

With a slightly forced smile, Minh Kwan began her day, unaware of the grim fate that awaited her universe.

Earth-2808

Year 2031

JJ Oliver winced as Anara wrapped her arms around him. They were in their quarters in the Delta Command Centre, atop his bed, their bodies entangled underneath the sheets. They hadn't labelled their relationship. They had never felt the need to, but they cared for each other very much, and after being reunited after weeks of being apart, one thing had led to another.

"It wasn't your fault." She whispered against his chest.

If only he could believe that. He had been undercover for the past several weeks, unable to tell his friends or family where or what he was doing. His best friend Anara had worried herself and after failing to track him, she had reached out to his father, a former power ranger for help. The entire thing had resulted in him blowing his cover, which would have happened anyways, since he was way over his head. However, they were successful in stopping the mastermind behind this entire chaos- one of his father's old enemies, Scorpina, who was working on behalf of the ancient demon, Lokar. Though both escaped, the world was temporarily safe from further invasions.

They had lost good people in the entire ordeal, including Finister, another of his father's foes, but one who had forsaken the path of evil, and had been instrumental in stopping Scorpina.

JJ felt guilty. Maybe if he had reached out to his father or Anara, things might have worked out differently, but his fellow officers and even his family had advised him against it. He did the best he could, and he couldn't have known that his father's experience as a ranger would have helped in resolving this crisis.

However, it didn't absolve him of his guilt.

In his efforts to come out of his parents' shadow as legendary rangers, he had forgotten he wasn't just a SPD officer but also part of a larger legacy.

All of that had helped him finally put his insecurities aside and finally accept Commander Tate's offer to join the B Squad as a power ranger.

"I don't know…" He sighed. "I am sorry for everything, Anara. I put you and my dad through hell."

"Your father was worried sick… and so was I." She said. "I don't know what I would do without you, JJ."

"I am going to be fine." JJ said. "I put you in danger."

"No. Don't do that. I chose to go after you… and everything worked out… mostly." She admonished.

"It did…" JJ murmured. "Scorpina still got away, and Lokar."

"Hey, you did your job, which was to protect people." Anara said. "They will be caught, if not by you guys, then by some other team of rangers."

JJ felt her pull apart, and opened his eyes to see her looking at him contemplatively.

"That's why you joined the rangers, didn't you?" She asked.

"I know what you feel, Anara, but-"

"No, I support this. I truly do." She smiled. "You were always meant to be a ranger, not because of who your parents are, but because you are a hero through and through. Besides, you are a trouble magnet and even if you were just a normal cop, you will drag yourself into dangerous situations. At least with a morpher, you are protected to some degree."

"Thanks." He said, snuggling against her. "I love you, you know that right?"

"Back at you." She smiled. "Just don't go AWOL on me again."

"Wouldn't dream of it." He laughed, as she leaned against him, and their lips met in a soft kiss.

This fic will be a PR MHA crossover, and basically a rewrite of MHA, where Izuku becomes a power ranger instead of inheriting "One for All", but while the story will mostly focus on the MHA universe, it will have some multiversal aspects, which will be revealed next chapter.

Both Minh and JJ are from different universes and different times.

This version of Minh is the same as the one from my "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once and Always" rewrite fic which follows canon with some tweaks here and there, hence the reference to Minh meeting her parents in the afterlife, during the brief moments she was unconscious after getting hit by Rita's attack. You don't need to read that fic to follow this story.

JJ Oliver though is from the canon universe, shortly after the events of the "Soul of the Dragon" graphic novel by Boom! Comics. JJ is a few years older than Minh and Izuku.

I decided to go with Minh and JJ as representatives of the Rangerverse, since they are fresh slates while being integral parts of the ranger legacy.

Hope you liked this chapter and please review. :)
