The sound of dice rolling echoed through the room as the group of eight sat around the table. The dim light of a flickering candle cast soft shadows on the walls of their cozy living room, the faint smell of takeout pizza filling the air. Team RWBY and Team JNPR had gathered for a night of Dungeons & Dragons, their favorite new hobby. Ruby Rose, always the enthusiastic leader, had been the one to suggest the game, and now, after a week of anticipation, it was finally time to play.
Ruby bounced in her seat, eagerly awaiting the others. "Okay, okay! Everyone ready to make their characters?" Her voice was filled with excitement. "This is going to be so much fun!"
Weiss Schnee, sitting across from Ruby, raised an eyebrow as she carefully organized her character sheet. "I suppose so," she said, her voice tinged with a hint of skepticism. "But I insist on perfection. I want my character to be as well-crafted as any of my studies."
Blake Belladonna, always calm and collected, leaned back in her chair, arms crossed. "As long as I get to be a rogue," she murmured, tapping her fingers against her leg. "I've always liked sneaking around… It's a bit like hunting, just with fewer arrows."
Yang Xiao Long flashed a grin, flexing her muscles dramatically. "And I'm going to smash things! Barbarian all the way." She pounded her fist into her palm for emphasis.
On the other side of the table, Jaune Arc shuffled his character sheet nervously. "I, uh… I'm still not entirely sure how paladins work. But I'll figure it out, right?" His voice wavered with uncertainty.
Nora Valkyrie, already bouncing in her seat, was practically vibrating with excitement. "I'm going to be a barbarian too! But like, a wild barbarian! I'm going to break everything!" She slapped her fists together with an exaggerated motion that made everyone else laugh.
Ren, ever the calm and collected one, was already deep into his character creation. "I'll be a monk," he said quietly, a peaceful smile on his face. "I think it suits me. Quiet, focused, and balanced."
Pyrrha Nikos, the last to speak, looked over at her teammates, her eyes shining with confidence. "I'll play a fighter," she said with a graceful smile. "I think I'll be the one to keep everyone together." She gave a small nod, as if to herself.
As the group settled into their roles, their Dungeon Master, a figure cloaked in mystery, entered the room. His name was Aric, a tall man with an enigmatic presence. He had a long black cloak and a mask that obscured much of his face, but his eyes gleamed with mischief and intelligence.
"Well, well," Aric began, his voice smooth and commanding. "It seems we have an interesting group of adventurers tonight. Ruby, Weiss, Blake, Yang, Jaune, Nora, Ren, and Pyrrha—each one of you has chosen a path, but the journey ahead will be anything but predictable. Your fates are intertwined, and the dice will determine how far you go."
He paused, letting the tension build.
"Now," Aric continued, "Let's begin with the basics. Ruby, what have you chosen for your character?"
Ruby beamed, her excitement palpable. "I'm a chaotic-good ranger named 'Sylvia Windchaser!' She's a free spirit, loves the outdoors, and she's got a pet wolf named Frostbite. She's all about exploring and, um, causing a little chaos along the way!"
Weiss rolled her eyes but smiled. "I'm playing 'Isolde Starflower,' a perfectionist wizard. She's all about precision and order. Every spell has to be executed flawlessly, no room for mistakes." She adjusted her glasses with a certain pride, clearly pleased with her choice.
Blake, leaning forward slightly, gave a slight smirk. "My rogue is named 'Raven Blackthorn.' She's a skilled infiltrator, quiet and elusive, always ready to disappear into the shadows. She's not interested in rules or honor, just getting the job done."
Yang let out a loud laugh. "And I'm going with 'Brianna Ironfist,' a barbarian. She's a powerhouse—fists of fury, strong as an ox, and always ready to charge into battle. She's a bit impulsive, but that's what makes her fun!"
Jaune scratched his head, still uncertain. "Uh… okay, so I'm playing 'Gavin Lightshield,' a paladin. He's, uh, kind of… overconfident? He believes in justice and honor, but he might need a little help figuring things out."
Nora was practically bouncing in her seat. "I'm playing 'Thalia Thunderfury!' A wild barbarian who's all about smashing first and asking questions later. She's super fun, super strong, and—did I mention—super wild?"
Ren, with his calm demeanor, nodded as he spoke. "I'm playing 'Shiori Windwalker,' a monk. He is quiet, disciplined, and skilled in the martial arts. He believes in balance and peace, though he can fight when the need arises."
Finally, Pyrrha smiled warmly. "I'll be 'Valeria Stormheart,' a fighter. A knight in shining armor, if you will. She's a natural leader, and I hope she can help keep the team focused on the mission."
Aric gave a small chuckle, a sound that seemed almost unnerving in its silence. "I see. Very well, heroes. Let us begin."
He raised his hands dramatically. "Your adventure starts in the small town of Everspring, nestled between the Great Forest and the Misty Mountains. The air is crisp, and the scent of pine trees fills the atmosphere. It's a peaceful day—until a mysterious figure arrives, shrouded in darkness, bringing with it news of an ancient evil awakening."
"Suddenly," Aric said, pausing for effect, "a loud crash shakes the ground beneath your feet, and the sound of footsteps echoes from the nearby woods. What will you do?"
Ruby's eyes sparkled. "I draw my bow and ready an arrow, ready for anything!"
Weiss adjusted her glasses, preparing her spells. "I cast Detect Magic to see if there's any arcane presence nearby."
Blake glanced around, her hand on the hilt of her dagger. "I slip into the shadows and scout ahead."
Yang grinned wide, cracking her knuckles. "I rush forward to smash whatever's coming at us!"
Jaune hesitated but stood tall, trying to look confident. "I—I stand firm, ready to defend my friends with honor!"
Nora slammed her fists into her palms. "I charge straight in, yelling at the top of my lungs!"
Ren remained calm, his voice steady. "I observe the surroundings carefully, preparing for whatever comes."
Pyrrha smiled gently, placing a hand on Jaune's shoulder. "We face whatever comes together. Stay close."
The game had begun. Aric's eyes gleamed beneath his mask as he watched the group, intrigued by the chaos and camaraderie unfolding before him. Each of them had stepped into the unknown, guided by fate and the roll of the dice.
And so, their adventure began.
