A/N: This came to me last night and using the parameters of what the show already established as the story lines for the finale, what if we as fanfic writers got the chance to rewrite the pregnancy reveal and how it played out on our screens? If we did, this is what I would have wanted to see. It starts the same as I wrote in chapter 1 but then plays out very differently.

SETTING: HOSPITAL OUTSIDE NURSERY

Standing wrapped up in her husband's arms after cuffing the guy responsible for her partner's death a jumble of emotions run through Eddie as her husband repeatedly soothes "We got him. We got him."

Hugging him tight in appreciation a smile of relief and gratitude appears on Eddie's face "Thank you." She emotionally whispers to him "Thank you for catching him. Thank you for letting me be the one to cuff him. Thank you for… for that closure."

"You're welcome." Jamie returns as the couple slowly pull back from one another and Jamie looks at his wife "I know what losing a partner is like. I'm just sad that now you know that feeling too."

Unable to speak Eddie just nods her head in acknowledgement of that statement.

"You okay?" Jamie gently double checks.

Again a smile appears on Eddie's face "We're fine." She confirms "Actually better then fine." She quickly corrects.

Jamie gives his wife a quizzical look at her slightly weird and unexpected answer but before he can ask her about it, Eddie shifts her attention over to all the babies in the nursery. "Look at them Jamie…" She prompts as she breaks out of her husband's embrace and slowly begins to walk over to the window "…they are all so innocent."

Turning his head to look too, Jamie follows after his wife coming to a stop beside her "I'll admit..." he begins to confess "As I was standing here pretending to be a father looking at his child I couldn't help but hope that one day soon that will actually be me."

A small smile appears on Eddie's face at the perfect opening...

...so she dismissively shrugs a little "Sooner than you might think." She a bit flippantly tosses out before turning her full attention to look up at her husband where she grins from ear to ear and waits for him to connect the dots.

At hearing her, Jamie turns to face his wife and for a moment just stands there looking at her happy, smiling, expectant expression so with that in combination with the words she spoke earlier, he starts to put the pieces together "Wait…" he slowly breathes out in realization "You said 'we're fine' before..." he notes in emphasis "Not I'm fine..."

Eddie's expression turns to one of giddy delight that he is getting it "I did, didn't I?" She playfully returns with dancing eyes.

A spark of new hope in what has otherwise been an emotionally sad day ignites deep within Jamie "Wait... are… are you telling me what I think you're telling me?"

"Got some test results back while you were gone." Eddie explains before repeatedly nodding her head up and down in confirmation "And yeah. Turns out I'm now a we."

"Oh my god…" Jamie breathes out as he just reaches over and pulls his wife into his arms into another hug "Seriously?"

"Seriously." Eddie confirms but needing absolute confirmation Jamie quickly pulls back to again look at his wife's face "A baby." he repeats as he tries to process the news "We're having a baby?"

"Yeah." Eddie confirms with a little laugh at his always methodical, taking nothing for granted reaction "We're having a baby."

Jamie immediately pulls his wife back into his arms "I love you."

"I love you too..." Eddie returns before moving her head slightly so she can emotionally whisper the last word she wants to say right into his ear "Dad."

It was one simple word but it was like music to Jamie's ears so he immediately pulls back to again look at his wife where she sees the happiest expression on his face "I'm going to be a Dad." He repeats in awe "And you're going to be a Mom." He states as everything really starts to sink in "You're going to be a great mom." He seriously reiterates to her before yet again repeating "We're having a baby!" in pure excitement before quickly cupping his wife's face with his hands and repeatedly kissing her lips a few times.

In all the years she had known him, Eddie had to admit she had never seen her husband so excited about anything in his life "Yeah." She laughs out in between kisses as she brings her own hands up to her face to cover his "We're having a baby."

So as the newly expectant parents move to once again embrace in a tight hug, they both know that while the fresh pain of losing of a friend, a colleague, a partner won't just suddenly vanish, this news now gives them something else to focus on and look forward to.

It gives them hope for the future and helps to lessen the anguish.

A/N: Then at Sunday Dinner Erin could have made her announcement because Jamie and Eddie would not be telling anyone yet. This would have made much more sense to me then Eddie suddenly out of the blue being 3 months pregnant, Jamko knowing the whole time and not even a hint of it appearing anywhere on our screens.
