Chapter 2: Insulted
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Marinette's POV...
"I have a plan," Alya spoke as she sat down next to me. "Nino is gonna ask Adrien about yesterday, saying he heard some rumors that he got angry at Chloe and he'll tell us what he says."
I nodded. Hopefully that works. The questions I was thinking were eating me alive. I needed to know soon or I'd go insane.
Alya shushed herself as Nino and Adrien walked into Ms. Bustier's class and sat down in their normal spots in front of us. I saw Nino shoot a subtle wink to Alya. Was the plan already happening?
"So, dude," Nino spoke as he turned to Adrien, who looked as peppy as he normally does. "I heard that you got pretty upset with Chloe yesterday. What happened?"
Adrien's features darkened for a moment. Then, right as he opened his mouth to answer, the bell rang and Ms. Bustier walked in, shushing the class to silence.
I frowned, nearly groaning out loud in disappointment. I was just about to hear the truth! Why did school always start at the worst possible time?
The entire day dragged on. Nino spent all day trying to get Adrien to tell him why he was so upset with Chloé, but they were always interrupted. Chloé on the other hand has been upset all day. Sulking and sobbing. Was Adrien really that harsh with her?
But then again, this is Chloé we are talking about. Literally, the Drama Queen of Françoise Dupont. So I'm guessing she's being dramatic as always.
Meanwhile, Alya hasn't stopped talking about how Adrien's been staring at me all day. Which, I'm sure she's exaggerating. Anytime I look over at Adrien (which trust me, is a lot) he's not even looking in my direction. Which is nothing new.
But I have to admit, during Ms. Mendeleiev's science class, I did catch him staring at me. Even after I looked away. Then Ms. Mendeleiev scolded him and asked him to answer a question I didn't even know and I was paying attention. Adrien blushed so hard it went all the way to his ears. It was kind of cute in a way.
Okay, it was really cute.
"Alya! Where are we-,"
"Shh!" Alya shushed me. "Just look!"
She pulled us to a corner, forcing me to peek around just enough to see. Adrien and Nino were talking and we could just make out what they were saying.
"Dude, what's going on with you and Chloé?" Nino spoke. "I've been thinking about it all day."
Adrien's normally happy and calm (and very very handsome) face looked... different. His features looked darker and angrier.
"It's nothing," Adrien spoke, his voice slightly hard. Ayla glanced at me. I shrugged. "Chloé was insulting someone , and I wasn't going to stand there and just listen to it."
"But Chloé is always insulting someone," Nino spoke. "Why say something now? You haven't before."
"Yeah, well, this time she spoke about someone I really care about." Adrien spoke, his voice still hard.
"Was it me?" Nino joked, making Adrien's hard features soften slightly as he laughed.
"No, but I'd definitely say something to Chloé if she insulted you, too." Adrien spoke.
"Then who was it?" Nino asked, adjusting his red cap on his head.
Adrien paused, kind of like people do in movies for dramatic effect.
"Marinette."
