When Ty and I arrived back at Grams, we went inside and sat in the livingroom. I was curled up on the couch and he was lying at my feet paying close attention as i started to read the legends. My favorite one was always between our warriors turning into wolves and protecting us and the legend of the wolves imprinting to find their one true love. Leave it to me to be a sappy bitch. MAybe that is why i was still single. The ancestors were saving me for a fairytale that doesnt exist so they technically want me to be single forever. I laughed at myself. In all honesty though, as a little girl i dreamed of these legends being true. Just hoping that one day i would find my one true love and never get my heart broken. That was years ago though and i have learned that fairytales are just that. They are every childs dream and hope for their future and it is something that they can hold onto until reality really wakes you up.
I just finished reading the last legend when Gran walked in the door. Ty stood up and stretched sleepily and that is when i realized how late it was. I guess time flies when you are consumed in something so magical. "What are you still doing up?" she asked nonchalantly. i just gave her a pointed look. Now it was her turn to roll her eyes at me. "Fine grab you a blanket and lets go sit on the porch." she sighed. i smiled happily and went to grab my soft wolf blanket off my bed. By her tone i could tell this was really going to throw me for a whole fucking loop.
Gran was outside smoking a cigarette and drinking a budlight when i walked outside. This must be really bad. i went over and sat beside of her, wrapping up in my blanket. She just kind of looked at it and smirked. "of course" she muttered. i sat quietly and waited. "Emma, i havent told you this because i'm ashamed and not because you werent old enough to know." she began. "Old Quil is the only one who knew the truth, everyone else just went off of what they assumed and put together in their own mind." i sat and listened intently as she talked. " Your grandfather...was Johnathan Uley. Sam's distant cousin and Leah and Seth Clearwater's grandfather." i sat frozen. There was no way. Its impossible. Johnathan was my mom's father. Before i could ask anything or say anything, Gran began speaking again. "It was all a mistake. Johnathan and his wife Charlotte had split up for a little while, or so i was told. We met at a mutual friends get together and one thing led to another and i left with him. We saw each other for about six months or so, no one knowing but us, and then one night he was back with his wife and i was three months pregnant with your mom." she finished her bottle and sat it down.
"Things happen, Gran." i said putting my hand on her arm. "its not your fault and i can tell that you love him still. Why keep it a secret though?" i asked.
"For the sake of his wife and kids. You see, Sue at the library. She is your mother's half sister and your aunt." Gran said looking at me. "They all think that Old Quill is the father of your mother because we were always the best of friends and well, we let them think whatever they want to. It wasnt anyones business after all."
"i completely understand. That was years ago though. It shouldnt matter anymore" i replied. She just nodded in agreement. The two of us just sat there and rocked on the porch swing in silence. Wrapping my head around this was going to take time. " Does mom know?" i asked. she sighed and nodded.
"I finally told her the truth about three years ago."
"Why do i feel like there is more that you arent telling me?" i asked. There had to be a reason as to why she really kept all of this a secret and not just that for so long.
"Because it's not my secret to tell" she said standing up. I knew it.
"Then who can tell me?" i questioned following her in the house. Ty hot on my heels.
"In time my child. In time." she kissed my cheek and went to bed. I uncover one thing and then i feel like i take a million steps back. I felt like this was going to be a long process.

The next morning I got up and found Gran in the kitchen. I looked at the time, 10:00...I must have been tired. "Well good morning, I found some pictures that I am sure you might like to see" I poured some coffee and then went over and sat beside of her. The first one she showed me was a tall Native American man that was seated beside of her. "This was me and your grandfather Johnathan. and this," she began," was a picture of my father before he died on a hunting trip." The man in the picture looked to be fairly tall, he had black curly hair and was very muscular. "This was your great grandfather, Emmett Dale McCarty. The man you were named after." she smiled. "I didn't know my father. The day he died, my mother found out she was pregnant with me. She was going to tell him when he returned but he never did. Her parents, my grandparents hated the fact that she was dating a white man. But they had loved each other so much and was planning to run away when he got the money saved up to go." That was sweet but so tragic. I felt bad for Gran because she never knew him. Almost reading my thoughts she added," I may not have known him, but my mother made sure to tell me everything about him and when I look in the mirror or at you, I see him. We have his blue eyes ya know," she kissed my cheek. "keep this, I have another one. I have to go help Old Quill get set up for the bonfire tonight. I will see if you can come join us." she smiled.

After Gran left, I took back the legends book and then came back and curled up on the couch with my blanket and fell asleep. I dreamt of Gran's dad and then it changed to Grandfather J. Something was happening but before I could see what was going on, I woke up and found Gran and Old Quill standing over me.
