Castiel's been weaker ever since he was cut off from Heaven, even after being brought back to life. He lost several abilities and became one of those criminals he had once hunted for Heaven himself.
But that was fine, he would do it all over again if it meant saving the Winchesters. He would do it all again.
He believed in them.
That is, until Dean chose to just give up, to hear he was intending on giving himself over to Michael had angered him, he had given up so much, he had turned his back to Heaven and lost everything . All because Dean said that people mattered, that families, people is what mattered, not some sort of prized fight, but people , and Castiel believed in Dean and what he stood for.
He gave it all up for that.
And Dean just decided he was done fighting? That nothing mattered anymore? Then what did he rebel for? Why did he give up everything for? Why did he lose everything for then if nothing mattered at the end? Had it been all for nothing? Had he lost it all for nothing? Why had Dean been so angry for then? Why force Castiel to choose if at the end he would do exactly what had been asked of him since the beginning?
Yet, he had reigned in his anger, he had helped Sam bring Dean back and lock him up. He had done his best to keep calm.
But then Dean tricked him and used a banishing sigil on him, and it hurt . All the anger he had kept reigned in unleashed full force as he crashed into a barn in Ohio, pain rippling through his true form and slicing through his wings, the aftershocks of the Whore of Babylon's spell still there, now heightened by the banishing sigil. And it hurt.
It was, as humans would say, the last straw.
He was done playing nice. He was done being patient. Anger burnt deep as he stood up, muscles stiff as he focused, knowing Dean, he would look for someone to deliver the message to Michael.
And true to it. He heard a man's prayer, about Dean Winchester.
He was there within seconds, his anger had been deeper than his rational side, and so he had let his fists take it all out on him. Even when he was still in pain, muscles stiff, his anger had been greater, and he didn't stop hitting until the anger had decreased.
Then he knocked him out and brought him back to Sam and Bobby.
"What happened to him?"
"Me." He states, giving no further explanation as he drops Dean on the couch. Pain still laces through him, making his hands shake as he straightens back up, wincing as a particular ripple tugs at his left wing.
"You alright?" Sam asks, noticing the gesture.
"I'm fine." And with that, he's gone, he doesn't go far, just to the roof of Bobby's home, he stands there, rubbing his arms and shuddering.
The pain from the Whore's spell was back . Not as intense, but it was back, he sighs. He won't hold it against Dean, it's not like he's ever bothered to explain to the brothers a single thing about banishing spells, about how using them against injured angels was bound to kill the angel.
Or in his case, he had been recovering from a strong curse that had lodged deep into his true form, with the Whore gone, the curse had been lifted. But it still hurt. The banishing sigil had made the pain return.
But again, Dean didn't do it on purpose, he didn't think he would have done so if he had known, which he didn't. Since Castiel didn't tell him . He should explain it to them one day, maybe when all of this was over.
Maybe.
