Movie Night
Pt 2/2
Good ten minutes before the movie was scheduled to start, Sharon was settling down to their seats in the mostly empty theatre, waiting for Andy who was getting them some snacks. She had been adamant that she didn't need any after their late dinner and especially the sweet treat after, but he had insisted. Andy wanted to go all out on the movie night experience and she didn't have the heart to argue.
While waiting, she had texted Rusty about Friday's stay over at Andy's. Sharon was both excited and anxious about the idea, but hoped Rusty would agree and try his best. If Andy was going to be an increasingly bigger part of their lives, Sharon had to help Rusty ease into spending more time around him. A relaxed evening this early on sounded like a great way to start things rolling.
Partly disappointed, partly relieved with the teenager response of "OK", Sharon responded with a probably too effusive text of thanks and kisses and promises to talk more at home. She was about to send another text to tone down her first reply when there was a popup alerting her to another message.
Sharon was still reading the text on her phone when Andy shuffled along the row. A seat down from his, the lights dimmed and the screen started to flicker. He hurried to proudly offer Sharon a bottle of flavored sparkling water and jiggled the selection of snacks to draw her attention. It didn't work, so he sat down, leaned across with the bottle and touched her shoulder for good measure.
"Here, Babes."
Barely glancing off her phone, Sharon accepted the offered water.
"Thank you, honey," she said absentmindedly and turned to kiss him.
It took a touch of their tongues for her to catch up with the situation. She pulled back, focused on her lap and used her thumbs to tease both the cap of her water and the phone's screen. "Uh, um... I didn't —"
She started to make busy with putting her phone away. Compared to the usual of dropping it in her pocket or the special compartment in her purse, it was taking at least eight times longer. Clearly a ruse. Andy smiled at her, kindly. He touched her chin with one crooked finger so lightly it would have been easy to miss. Despite that, Sharon's eyes snapped to his, wide and wild, her lips parted in mute confusion.
Andy took her lips in a searing kiss. It was a gamble, but as soon as he could even entertain the thought of backpedaling, he felt Sharon's tongue searching for his. While her parted lips had given him opportunities, Sharon had taken the upper hand in their open-mouthed explorations. A series of gentle nips at his lower lip made Andy smile so hard it broke the kiss. He would never say it, but the shy yet insistent intimacies from Sharon were unexpectedly adorable. If she was too reticent to say it out loud, the way she threw herself into their physical indulgences reassured Andy that she was at least enthusiastic about being with him. Unexpected perhaps, but deeply gratifying.
"For the record, Babe," Andy said with a wink, "I certainly meant that."
Sharon muffled a laugh, a little bashful. "We're being worse than the teenagers."
Andy shot a pointed look around the theater.
"Did you notice, no teenagers in sight? Someone's gotta keep up the cliche." With a devilish waggle of his brows, he buried his face in Sharon's hair and started placing soft kisses from her ear downwards, making her giggle.
"We're not in the back row, Andy!"
He shot another pointed look at the empty rows behind them, with only a single person at the end of the topmost row, possibly an employee if the clothes and age were any hint.
"I thought this is what you do in the movies. A little necking, a little..."
"Perhaps," Sharon hedged, "But we didn't last time."
Instead of getting her hint about public displays, Andy's thoughts ran straight to their supposed movie night at home come snuggle fest on the couch a few days back. He was still a little sorry for the way he acted, but not enough to stop him from being a bit of a manipulative ass tonight. Truthfully, he didn't really care, especially so after Sharon's conversation with Emily. However, maybe it was fair to acknowledge past missteps.
"Look, I'm sorry for my shitty mood last time. I was tired and feeling frustrated and expected a little too much. Never even got to a movie, as I recall. Sorry."
Sharon smiled in appreciation and laced her fingers with his. "I told you once I missed all the good bits of being in a relationship. Curling up together on the sofa to watch inane TV shows was exactly one of the things I had in mind."
"Sharon, at the risk of repeating myself... Your view on relationships is strange."
She poked his ribs. "Watch the movie, Andrew."
"Those are the ads."
"Nevertheless." Sharon swiped a handful of the almost forgotten popcorn. Her purse shook. "Oh."
"Don't tell me they're already calling us back!"
How long it took to rummage her purse for the device told Andy that she definitely hadn't put it where it was supposed to go.
"Oh."
"For all that's —"
"It's not work, Andy. You're fine."
Sharon scrunched her brow at the phone, and just as the lights in the movie theatre dimmed further, she started to text furiously. Andy munched on the popcorn and tried to focus on the opening credits and the beginning of the movie. Sharon's phone screen dimmed twice between an ever deepening scowl and ever speeding furious typing. It was a good thing there was no one in the rows behind them, or Sharon would surely win some angry looks.
When the chat didn't seem to be over with a short message or two, and the movie was already well on its way through the opening scenes, Andy wanted to redirect her attention. He placed his palm on her knee, stroking the side of it with his thumb. There was a hum from Sharon which he translated as "that's nice" in his head. It was in complete opposition to the look on her face.
The movie got through introducing the key characters and Andy was willing to bet money Sharon couldn't have picked the main protagonist from a line-up. He didn't understand what would be so pressing that she couldn't have texted back after the movie.
Well, never mind that, Andy thought, and took advantage of her distraction. Her legs, crossed at the knees, were offering him so many pleasant opportunities. Casually busying his other hand with taking a drink, he let the other hand's fingers travel up her soft inner thigh. After a couple of gentle passes to which he received little to no response, he let his fingers move even higher, his hand pushing the skirt's hem out of the way. The cheeky little slit showing the back of her thigh had been teasing him the whole day but now gave him a gratifying amount of space to work with. Barely had his lips curved into a satisfied smile when his wrist was grabbed by a warm hand.
"Andy, no."
"Sorry." He wasn't, really, unless you counted being sorry for losing a very pleasurable pastime. However, he didn't want to encroach on her boundaries too much. She might not be moving at the same pace as he was, as frustrating as that might be, but he rather waited than risked pushing her completely away. Somewhere, if fairly far, in the back of his mind was the thought that if Sharon was rushed too much, she'd rather give up completely than adjust. That certainly wasn't in his plans, so he whispered, apologetic, "I'm pushing."
"No, it's alright, just not in public..." Sharon dragged his hand down, very minutely in his surprised opinion, before pressing it back in place. "That's fine."
Andy wasn't sure what the difference was — maybe not wrinkling her skirt? — but he was content with what he could get. She offered him a tiny smile and leaned over to peck his lips. Andy in turn offered her the snacks. The popcorn seemed to be to Sharon's liking as she kept picking up one or two kernels at a time all through the movie. The chocolate clearly wasn't the correct choice, and Andy made a mental note to try something else the next time.
While Andy's hand didn't stray from Sharon's thigh for the entire movie, Sharon's kept running along his arm every moment between handfuls of popcorn. She kept leaning closer and giving him high pitched hums every time she wasn't sure what was going on with the movie. Andy provided her with one or two word explanations, for which she patted his arm in thanks.
Midway through she laid her head on his shoulder. Every few minutes or so she placed a soft press of lips on the junction of his neck.
Andy might have grinned for over an hour straight.
When the movie was over and the lights were turned on, Sharon slid her hand under his, linking their fingers together. She offered him a sweet kiss before pulling him up.
"That's all the making out at the movies I get?"
"Oh, I think so," she said in a lofty tone. "Had you wanted more making out, you should have gotten seats in the back row."
"Again, foiled by my lack of pre-planning!"
"Poor Andy."
The moment they were out of their row, Sharon dug for her phone. Again she scowled at the screen. Attempting to employ both hands for typing, she was surprised by the hold she had on Andy's hand. She opened hers, but Andy didn't let go.
"I like it," he whispered.
"Oh, well, good."
She gave her phone another hateful glance before tucking it back in her purse. Walking out of the theater, Sharon stepped closer to Andy's side and wrapped her other hand around their joined ones.
Andy dropped a sweet peck on her lips.
"Did you have a good evening?"
"Very."
"So you did end up liking the movie!" he exclaimed happily.
"Not really, no."
"Oh." He had wanted it to be a small gotcha moment, since Sharon had showed some reluctance while they negotiated their choices. Apparently he hadn't sold the movie well enough. "Well, if you had spent a little less time with texting, you might have enjoyed it more."
"Highly doubtful."
They ambled through the lighted lobby, letting the other people exit before them. The dark evening outside was fairly warm, and they could see people walking past the windows. The traffic was surprisingly low, but they had still parked at the strip mall's over the street.
Waiting for a clear way over the street, Andy couldn't let his disappointment go.
"You seriously didn't like it?"
"I'm sorry, Andy."
"We could've seen something else."
"Yes, we could have," Sharon agreed as they stepped on the crosswalk. "However, you wanted to see this one and we did agree."
"But... This was for both of us."
"It was." They stepped over the curb on the opposite side of the road and rounding the fence to enter the parking lot, Sharon purposefully bumped into his side. "You don't have to always do what I want. Watching a movie I'm not interested in won't hurt me. Besides, don't think I didn't get anything out of it." Teasing her lower lip, Sharon gave him a flirty look. "I especially enjoyed the hand up my skirt."
Andy was baffled, unsure what reaction she expected of him. They were slowly starting to get more physically affectionate, but at the same time he knew Sharon was reserved and very private. He was certain she wasn't really offended or angry, otherwise he would have heard it at once. His expectations and her mood weren't exactly matching. He had come to their impromptu date ruffled and despite Sharon playing along with his frustrations for the workplace conduct class, their interactions at dinner felt a little stilted. He had purposefully poked her at the movies, trying to get her attention, but he hadn't expected the change of mood.
While Andy still tried to put his thoughts in order, Sharon stepped in front of him, bringing their joined hands on her ass. For good measure, she pressed his hand to squeeze her while raising on tip toes to press a sloppy kiss across his lips. She stepped back so quickly, chuckling under her breath, that it only added a layer of surprise to Andy's confusion. Sharon had never been this playful, especially not this public. Sure her sense of humor kept surprising him, but somehow he kept expecting her to be a lot more restrained.
"Shame about the poor pre-planning, though," she whispered before returning to walk by his side like nothing happened.
Andy was lost for words. While the carefree and flirty Sharon made him exceedingly happy, it also threw him for a loop. He clearly had a lot to learn when it came to Sharon and her quick changes in attitude. He could only follow her half a step behind, his head buzzing with thoughts and wonder.
Sharon led them through the gap in the wire fencing around the parking lot and towards her car. She had parked right on the edge of the lot, next to another access point. His car was further down the other side, as they would head to opposite directions after the evening.
They stopped by her car's back door and Sharon hitched her hip against its side. They both looked around them, not really knowing how to end the evening. Andy had a lot to think, but didn't really want to say goodnight this early. He felt like they were moving forward, if slowly, and somehow he was afraid if they left things at this, they might go backward.
Somehow the evening had been a rollercoaster of awkwardness and unprecedented physical intimacy. It all added to an exciting, if confusing, night. Though he had hoped Sharon would have enjoyed the outing as well. Despite not liking the movie.
"Honestly, you did have fun, right?"
"Oh, Andy." Sharon slipped her arms around his neck and smiled at him indulgently. "The making out at the movies didn't give you a clue?
"I thought you were just bored."
"Two things can be true at the same time. However, in case it's still unclear..."
She stepped up on her toes and brought his lips to hers. To make her point, she went for a kiss with little to no preamble eliciting a surprised grunt from Andy.
Sharon couldn't help but giggle, breaking their connection.
Andy let his lips travel along her cheek, chuckling under his breath. She was in a mood alright, but he was in no way complaining.
"If I didn't know you can hold your alcohol," he murmured below her ear, "I'd ask how laced with rum that cake was."
"It was a mousse cake, no soaking needed. So just drunk on you." She couldn't help but snort at her own cheesiness. "Definitely overtired."
The addition stung a little, but it didn't stop him from dragging his lips along her jawline and down her throat. By every indication Sharon was enjoying his lips and his hands making soft kneading motions up her shoulder blades. She even leaned back a little to give him more room to maneuver.
On encountering Sharon's necklace, Andy pulled it between his teeth and gave the chain a little tug, which elicited a throaty laugh from Sharon. When he nosed her collar aside and his lips slipped down the strap of her bra, the laughter was cut short. Her hands dropped from his hair and landed on his chest, pushing him back gently but insistently.
Sharon cleared her throat and looked at their shoes.
Andy, again confused by the sudden change in mood, tried to regulate his breathing.
"I'm coming on too strong."
Sharon bit her lip, glanced around, and patted his chest.
"It's fine. It's not you, it's me."
"Sharon, if I'm making you uncomfortable, I'd think it's definitely me."
"I'm not uncomfortable." Disbelieving, Andy chuckled. "Not as such. It's just that... I don't really do this sort of a thing."
"And nothing says you'd have to."
"But I want to," she said lowly. "That's... confusing, to say the least." She smiled brightly, barely meeting his eyes from under her lashes.
Andy couldn't help but return the smile. It was true they were getting a bit too hot and heavy for their age and the public, but there was so few people around, and the parking lot had poor lighting to boot. It shouldn't be that big of a deal, but the way Sharon could barely meet his eyes told Andy he better cool it.
"I think," he said lightly, "this is the time to suggest we take this somewhere a bit more private, but we both know today's no 'your place or mine'."
"Work," Sharon said knowingly. "It's getting late."
She gave him a soft peck on the lips and turned towards her car. Andy moved past her to open the driver's door. Sharon dragged her fingers along his arm in thanks.
Just before he slammed her door closed, Sharon winked at him.
"Ask me next time."
