By the time Abby's tenure at River Heights High ended, she and Rose had become an unlikely team. Together, they'd put on some of the most celebrated productions the school had seen. Abby's eccentricity had become part of her charm, and even Rose found herself becoming sentimental during their last dress rehearsal.
"You're going to do great things, Rose," Abby said, her voice soft for once. She squeezed Rose's shoulder. "Remember, theater is about heart. Not rules. You have the mind of a director, yes—but never lose your heart."
Rose smiled. "You're going to miss me keeping you organized, aren't you?"
Abby laughed, loud and bright. "Every magician needs a stage manager, darling."
