Chapter 8: A Vigilante Takes Shape
The days after Izuku's disastrous first attempt at vigilantism were grueling. His body ached from endless training sessions, and his mind swirled with Lilith's constant reminders about discipline and focus. Despite the challenges, he pushed himself harder, determined to master the power he had been given.
One evening, as he stood in front of the mirror in his room, Lilith's voice echoed in his mind.
"I think it's time we revisit the streets," she said, her tone more playful than usual.
Izuku frowned, wiping the sweat from his brow. "But I'm not ready yet. I still can't fully control the transformations."
"Control comes with experience," Lilith replied. "And experience comes from action. We're not going to sit around forever, are we?"
He sighed, staring at his reflection. His body had grown noticeably stronger since the training began. His once-slim frame now carried a surprising amount of muscle, and his movements felt sharper and more deliberate. Maybe Lilith was right—it was time to try again.
A New Night, A New Start
Izuku pulled on his hoodie and mask, his heart pounding with anticipation. The streets were alive with their usual hum, and the moon cast long shadows over the city. He stuck to the alleys, moving quickly but carefully.
"Keep your senses sharp," Lilith advised. "The moment we see trouble, we move."
For a while, everything seemed quiet. But as he turned a corner, he spotted a commotion near a small convenience store. A group of teenagers in tattered clothes was harassing the store owner, their voices raised in anger. One of them shoved the man back, causing him to stumble.
Izuku's fists clenched. "This is it," he whispered.
"Go for it," Lilith encouraged. "But remember: no rushing in blindly this time."
Izuku focused, drawing on Lilith's power. His body shimmered, the heat of transformation washing over him as he shifted into his predator form. Black fur sprouted along his arms and legs, his nails sharpened into claws, and his senses heightened instantly. He crouched low, feeling the predatory instincts surge through him.
"You look sharp," Lilith teased. "Now show them what you've got."
Leaping onto the rooftop of the convenience store, Izuku let out a loud growl. The sound startled the teenagers, who looked up in panic.
"What the hell is that?!" one of them shouted.
Izuku dropped down, landing in front of them with a controlled precision he hadn't managed before. His glowing eyes and sharp claws made for an intimidating sight.
"Leave now," he growled, his voice distorted by the transformation. "You don't want to make this worse for yourselves."
The group hesitated, their bravado faltering. One of them stepped forward, holding a metal pipe. "Who do you think you are? Some kind of hero?"
"I'm someone who doesn't like bullies," Izuku replied, stepping closer. His claws glinted in the moonlight, and the teenager with the pipe faltered.
Within moments, the group scattered, their courage evaporating. The store owner stared at Izuku in shock, his hands trembling.
"Th-thank you," the man stammered.
Izuku nodded silently before leaping back onto the roof. As he disappeared into the night, he felt a rush of satisfaction.
Back at home, Izuku collapsed onto his bed, his body sore but his heart light. Lilith's voice broke the silence.
"Not bad, kid," she said. "You're starting to get the hang of it."
He smiled. "I didn't lose control this time. That's progress, right?"
"It is," she agreed. "But don't get cocky. That was a small-time scuffle. Bigger challenges are coming, and they'll push you to your limit."
Izuku nodded. "I'll be ready. I promise."
"Good," Lilith said, her voice softening. "Because we're just getting started."
