Moka... Yokai Academy School Festival Opening Day, October 29th...

"Catch a goldfish!"

The young Vampire, now dressed in a beautiful pink kimono with a green floral pattern, cheers gleefully as she holds up a little net. Moka watches as other students pass by her, and they look almost entranced by her beauty.

"Come catch a goldfish! We've got a ring-toss game, too! They're so cute! Come catch one! Does anyone want to try?"

Students gather around the booth, taking in the beauty of the Vampire. Normally, this would be great for getting their booth's attention, but some of the students get a little too close. Some even start taking pictures of the young woman, making her uncomfortable.

"Meow! Oh, my!" Ms. Nekonome appears from the classroom, smiling at how well her class is doing with their festival booth. "Class 1-3 has a real hit!"

"Um, Ms. Nekonome!"

"The goldfish scoop is the best game ever! No wonder everyone's crowding around!"

But no one is even scooping for goldfish! Ah! Did someone just touch me? Moka tries to make the best of her situation, but in all honesty, she wants to get out of there. "Um...Goldfish?" In all the rush of attention, Moka didn't even realize that someone had grabbed onto her hand and pulled her away from the booth. Her eyes glitter with amazement when she sees her savior.

"Tsukune?"

"I found somebody else to watch the booth for you! Let's make a run for it!"

Despite the other students' protest of not wanting the beautiful Vampire to leave, Tsukune, with Moka in hand, takes her away from all the affection-seeking prowlers. The pair rush upstairs and find a quiet place to take a breath.

"I can't believe it," Tsukune chuckled. "Hardly any customers all day, then you get there and boom, an instant crowd. The festival sure is exciting." The young human walks over to the railing, looking down at the crowd with a smile on his face. "I didn't expect such a turnout, and they're all in human guise, just like the rules say. It's hard to believe they're all monsters. 'A student celebration and reunion all in one. That means three days to showcase peace.' Just like he said..."

Moka joined Tsukune at the railing, seeing the wondrous sight that he saw. So many Monsters and Yokai alike under one roof, coming together to simply celebrate. Some have even brought their children to join in the fun, or just to show what this school is really all about. Moka couldn't be any more proud of what Tsukune had pulled off, Elijah too. Another thought pops into the young Vampire's head...making her blush a little bit.

"You know, I've never done it before, the goldfish scooping, I mean. I hardly ever got to go to any festivals, I'm so happy to be here! And..." Moka trails off. I've always dreamed of going to a festival with someone.

"You, uh," Tsukune scratches the back of his head, not making eye contact with Moka as his cheeks burn. "You look really...beautiful. You're kimono, I mean..."

Moka found herself blushing even more as Tsukune fumbled over his words, she didn't expect such a direct compliment from him. And she would never admit it out loud to anyone, but it made her feel all warm and tingly inside.

"...Ts-Tsukune?"

"Yeah?"

"I want to ask you," Moka shuffled herself closer to the boy, feeling her shoulder brush against his. "Tonight, if you want...um..." The Young Vampire looks into Tsukuen's brown eyes, seeing her own reflection in his irises. "spend it...with me?"

"Moka..."

"Tsukune..."

"Hey!" The obnoxious yell from their Wizard friend breaks Tsukune and Moka from their trance, Elijah wraps his arms over their shoulders as he gets in between them. "How are my two favorite lovebirds?"

"W-We're fine, Elijah."

"Yeah, dude...totally fine."

"Oh, come on. It's not like I overheard your conversation and intentionally wanted to spoil the moment or something."

"Dude!" Tsukune pulled himself away from Elijah, punching his shoulder as his cheeks burned with red.

"Ow! Okay! Okay! I'm sorry!" Elijah laughed. "But in all seriousness, you guys don't have to worry about a single thing. Everyone's busy tonight thanks to the festivities, so you can enjoy yourselves."

"What about you, Elijah?"

"I'm glad you asked, Moka," The young man smiled proudly. "Kuru and I will be heading from booth to booth, doing a little reporter work for our newspaper. Speaking of, have you guys seen her?"

"No."

"I haven't seen her since yesterday."

"Well, damn. Where could she be?"

"Why do you want to look for her anyway?" Mizore pops in from around the corner.

"AAHH!"

"Mizore?!"

"I really need to put a bell on you," Elijah muttered.

"That can wait, and so can that balloon inflated Succubus., I need a favor."

"What?"

"Okay, so...um, my Mom's visiting and she's been on my case about meeting you."

"Oh, that's nice..." Elijah cuts himself short before going on. "Wait, why would your Mom want to meet me?" As if it was on cue, a woman's head peeked around the corner...a spitting image of Mizore Shirayuki.

"That must be Mizore's mother," Moka whispered to Tsukune and he nodded.

"They're practically twins."

"You can come out, Mother," Mizore's mother stands up straight and comes out from the corner, she points at Elijah and smiles. "This is my boyfriend."

"Boyfriend?!"

"When did this happen?"

"I thought you-" Elijah covers Tsukune's mouth before he can finish his sentence.

"What have you been telling her?" The young Wizard demands an answer from the Snow Fairy, making her walk up to him and whisper.

"I'm sorry, but could you just play along for now? I kinda slipped and told her that I picked you over Tsukune and started going out with you."

"...You've gotta be fucking kidding me."

Elijah

This is ridiculous. I shouldn't be here, I should be with Kurumu and just enjoying the festival. Why did Mizore have to lie? I tried to take a breath as I sat across from Mizore's mother, Mizore herself sat beside me. Tsukune and Moka decided to tag along just to see how things went, mostly to make sure I didn't pop a gasket. I don't mind meeting her, but if it were under better circumstances. If it weren't for a lie, especially one of this level, I would gladly like to meet Mizore's mother.

"It's a pleasure to finally meet you, I am Tsurara, Mizore's mother." She bows in respect before looking up at me with a gracious smile, the lollipop in the corner of her mouth doesn't even falter her speech. "Elijah Everett, my daughter has told me so much about you."

"Hopefully the truth," I mutter. There's no doubt that she's beautiful. She seems nice, elegant, her skin as pale as freshly laid snow, and her hair is so neatly tied up. But this still sucks! What if Kurumu came along?

"And who are these two?" Tsurara gestured her hand to Moka and Tsukune. "Friends of yours."

"Oh, I'm-"

"Oh, her? She's just a groupie," Mizore incorrectly explained. "She's always hanging around Elijah, just-"

"Ahem!" I loudly clear my throat. "What Mizore meant to say is that yes, these are our friends, Moka and Tsukune. Right?" I ask that last part through clenched teeth and a forced smile.

"...Right."

"So, Mr. Everett," Tsurara held a cup of iced tea to her lips. "When do you plan to marry my daughter?"

"...I'm sorry, what?"

"Well, of course," She giggled, setting the cup of tea back on the table. "You are courting my daughter, are you not?"

"Uh...well, you see...here's the thing..." Great, there goes my Tsukune impression again. "

"You're not even thinking about it?" The ice in Tsurara's cup...starts moving on its own, rattling the glass. "You're dating without even eyeing for the future?"

"Huh?"

PKSHH!

Sharp, ice shards form out of her cup, nearly piercing my neck and face. I jumped back and Mizore just sighed in annoyance. "Oh, I do apologize," Tsurara giggles, the ice shards shrinking back into her cup. "Sometimes my feelings get the better of me! He is quite charming, Mizore, you have my blessing." She stands from her seat, bowing to us in respect. "Now, I'm going to take a stroll around the festival, but let's dine together tonight, shall we? You too, of course, Mr. Everett."

"Uh...tonight?" That's not okay. "Actually-"

"Now, if you'll excuse me," She disappears into a mist of fog before I can inquire further...and I look straight at Mizore with a scowl.

"Explain yourself. Now."

"Sorry," She shrugged. "One thing led to another, I guess. What's the big deal? You're gonna end up with me, anyway. So it's okay."

"No, it's not!" I shout at the top of my lungs, setting my head in my hands with an exhausted sigh. I really need to get shit together faster than I thought I did.

"Mizore, did you even think about how Elijah would feel?" Moka asked.

"I'm with Moka," Tsukune added. "You can't just-"

"Hey, you guys!"

I sigh in relief at the sound of Kurumu's voice, I look up from my hands and smile as she approaches. "There you are, I've been looking all over. Ready to get going?"

"Oh, yeah...about that..." The Succubus fiddles with the hem of her skirt and has a sour look on her face.

"...What's wrong?"

"Look, don't be mad, but I-"

"Oh, Kurumu!" The voice of an older woman grabs my attention, turning around to see... Oh, God, no...not again! She was a near-spitting image of my best friend, the only difference was a slightly darker blue hair that went past her shoulders...and two other things.

"Yeah," Kurumu looks to all of us as she tries to proudly present her mother. "This is my Mom! Ehehehe..."

"And you," She points her finger past me, directly at...my brother. "You must be Tsukune, Kurumu's fiance!" I'm sorry, what?! "And these must be the girls you dumped," Kurumu's Mom gestures to Moka and Mizore. "The ones who refuse to leave you alone. And you..." She looks directly at me, reading my eyes. "You must be a hopeless romantic dying to be with my Kurumu, it's cute, really."

"Wha- Mmph!" Before I could get a word in edgewise, Kurumu covered my mouth as her mom went to examine Tsukune further.

"I know what you're thinking, and it's not how it seems!" She whispered to me. "Back when I first told my Mom about Tsukune and the rivalry between all of us at the beginning, she wouldn't stop pestering me after! So...that just came out one day!"

"And did you ever, I don't know, tell her that you're not sure about your whole Destined One being Tsukune thing?!" I whisper back.

"It occurred to me!" She retorts, sighing as she looks at me sadly. "My Mom is very...traditional and she can get really intense about that whole thing. Besides, I still need to talk with Tsukune to know for sure."

I groan. "And what about what we planned?"

"...I'm really sorry, Elijah. But there's still tomorrow, I promise." Kurumu holds out her pinkie to me. "Pinky promise."

"..." I reluctantly take her pinky with my own. "You better..."

"Oh, don't be a baby," Kurumu giggles, rolling her eyes at me. "How about this, why don't you come with us to dinner? It'll be less awkward that way."

"...Fine."

"Well, how about dinner?" Kurumu's mother offered as she pulled away from Tsukune...his nose bleeding like a hose. What did she do to him? "Or maybe you need some pointers first?" She grabs his hand...and motions it to one of her breasts.

"Mo-om!" Kurumu quickly ushers her away. "Cut it out!"

She giggled as she waved back at him. "We'll be looking forward to it, Tsukune!"

"Does anyone even know what sexual harassment means anymore?"

Kurumu sighed as her mother was out of sight. "I'm really sorry about that, Tsukune. You too, Elijah. Let this just be a quiet evening over dinner, huh?"

"Well-" Moka was about to speak up, but Mizore stepped in.

"What's this I hear about Elijah joining you while he's already promised that he's having dinner with me." Mizore tugs at my arm.

"Huh?" Kurumu looks directly at me. "What is she talking about?"

"Long story short, Mizore here had told her mom that we were going out and that I should have dinner with them. And F.Y.I., Mizore, I didn't promise anything!" I honestly don't want to go with either of them, I just wanted to ask-

"But you're coming anyway, right?" Mizore tugs on my arm again.

"Hey!" Kurumu tugs on my other arm. "You don't control what Elijah wants! Besides, even if my mom wasn't here, we had plans!"

"And here you are, claiming Tsukune as your 'fiance'," Their argument slowly turned into a tug-of-war with me in the middle of it. Is this how you felt, Tsukune? "Aiming a little high there, aren't you?"

"You're one to talk, stalker!"

"I told you not to call me-"

CRACK!

The sound of a loud thud breaks up Kurumu and Mizore's rising argument, we see that Moka...had broken the table in an angered punch. I couldn't see her eyes, but I didn't need to. I could practically feel the anger radiating off of her. That...and just a hint of jealousy.

"Moka?"

"Aha! So this is where you guys are!" The sound of a Young Witch grabs most of our attention, she's followed by an older couple. One of them resembling Yukari. "I've been looking all over for you! Well, anyway, my parents are visiting, so-" Yukari's sentence is cut short after seeing Moka storm away from the rest of us. "H-Huh? What's wrong with Moka? I just wanted her to meet my parents."

"Let the others tell you," I answered before turning to Yukari's parents. I may as well give them a proper greeting since I know damn well that Yukari has no ulterior motives. "Nice to meet you both."

"The honor is all ours," Yukair's mother bows to me. "We're in the presence of the Blessed Child, after all."

"Yes," Yukari's father bows with his wife. "Yukari has told us much about your accomplishments, I'm sure you'll be a great Wizard, if not already."

"..." Well, that's actually quite a relief for once. But I don't really deserve their praise. "Please," I wave a hand dismissively. "there's no need to bow, really. I'm just doing what I can."

"And we're very grateful for what you and your friends have done for our daughter. I'm Fujiko Sendo," She smiles at me, and her husband follows after.

"Tamanori Sendo, thank you for watching over my baby."

"Da-ad! I told you not to call me that in front of them!" I chuckle at Yukair's wining...But I need some time away from everything else that happened. I start walking away from the others...but a hand grabbing my wrist stops me.

"Where are you going? You promised you'd come to dinner with me and my mother. I think it would impress her more if you wore the kimono I bought for you, so maybe you should-"

I jerk my hand away from Mizore's grip...letting my anger get the best of me. "I need some air."

"But you-"

"'But' nothing, Mizore!" I shout at the Snow Fairy, making her jump back a little. "I need space from all of this...this...bullshit! Don't you get that?! I just... AUGH!" I groan in frustration before I stomp away from everyone. I know I shouldn't have shouted like that but I'm too pissed to even start thinking about apologizing.

I soon found myself at the front gate of Yokai Academy, ignoring the coming and going of other people as I just sat against the concrete support beam. This fucking sucks...after all my planning too. I sigh as I look up to the color-painted sky, it really is a beautiful evening...and here I am all alone. Why did things have to turn out like this? Kurumu especially? I mean, I know she has things to 'figure out', but she could've at least told her mom about her not being sure about Tsukune. What is there to even figure out? And what the hell did her mom mean by 'hopeless romantic'?! Who does that woman think she is? I'm her best friend for crying out loud! Did Kuru tell her anything about me?

"...What am I supposed to do?"

I groan, hugging my knees as I try to look for any silver lining to any of this. I know I have time, but I'm already terrified as it is. What am I even gonna say to her? Should I just keep it casual, or should I let her know how serious I mean it?

"Hey, man," I look up, seeing that Tsukune has found me. "You alright?"

"...What do you think?"

My sarcastic, rhetorical question grabs a laugh from Tsukune. "Yeah, I know," He takes a seat beside me. "What a mess we got ourselves into, huh?"

"That's putting it lightly," I scoffed.

"No kidding. I really wanted to be with Moka tonight. I mean, you heard our conversation."

"I know...and I had plans of my own. And I just don't mean just walking around the festival with Kuru..." My sentence trails off as I look at the dirt path ahead of me and I sigh. "You remember the bonfire dance that's planned for tomorrow?"

"Yeah...? Oh!" Tsukune puts two and two together in no time. "You were gonna ask her tonight, weren't you?"

"Yeah, I didn't wanna put all my anxiety into asking her the day of the dance so I figured I'd ask her tonight so I wouldn't have to worry about it. Plus, I don't want to put her on the spot in front of everyone."

"Yeah, I know what you mean."

"But the next thing you know, Mizore shows up with her mom, claiming me as her 'boyfriend'. Then Kuru shows up with her mother, claiming you as a 'fiance', or whatever. Now here we are sitting all alone and everything is just fucked!"

"I feel you man," Tsukune pats my shoulder. "I'm beyond frustrated about this too. And...you know that I'd never get in between you and Kurumu, right?"

"I know, man," I nod. "Still..." A few minutes of silence pass us before I speak again. "...I had another plan in motion, too."

"Yeah?"

"...I want to tell Kurumu how I feel, after the dance, I mean."

"Whoa..." Tsukune smiles proudly at me. "That's great!"

"I don't know, man..." I sigh. "I mean, what if I mess it up? What if I make myself look like a dork?"

"Haha. Been there, my friend," Tsukune found humor in my slight embarrassment. "But dude, you don't have to worry. I mean, look how I told Moka how I felt. I was literally about to die, for crying out loud. I'm sure no matter how you do it, Kurumu will understand perfectly just how much you love her."

"...And even if she doesn't, she has to know. I just...I can't keep it inside of me anymore. I want her to know just how much...I love her."

"Hey," Tsukune lightly punches my shoulder before standing to his feet, offering his hand to pull me up. "You got this, man. You two have been together since day one, you're practically inseparable. I'm sure deep down, she wants to be with you just as much."

I smile back at him as I take Tsukune's hand and stand with him "Thank you, brother."

"So...what do we do now?"

"...Well, the way I see it, you still have a chance to give Moka what she always dreamed about."

"I know that look, that's your thinking face!" Tsukune happily cackles, clasping his hands together. "What do you got for me?"

"Well, it's an idea..." I place my hand on his shoulder...and it begins to glow orange. Tsukune's curious expression slowly morphed into a dumbfounded agape as he stared back into...his own eyes. "...But let's hope I can make a good impression."

Kurumu

"Hmph, Tsukune's running late." Kurumu's mother, Ageha Kurono, impatiently tapped her foot as she waited for the young man with her daughter. "Wasn't he going to meet us for dinner?"

"Yes, Mom. Just...be patient. I'm sure they won't be long."

"Honestly, I don't even know why you bother inviting that other boy, he'll be a third wheel!"

What does that make you?

"I honestly don't even know why you associate with his kind in the first place."

"Because he's better than any boy I've ever met..."

Ageha raised an eyebrow after hearing a low, annoyed mutter coming from her daughter. "What was that?"

"Nothing..."

Kurumu sighed as she looked away from her mother, unknowingly blushing at how she described her friend. I hope the guys aren't too mad at me for this, I know I would be. Way to go, dumb dumb, you made your friends upset with your stupid planning skills. I know Tsukune was probably looking forward to spending the festival with Moka...and I was looking forward to spending it with Elijah. And what the hell is Mizore's deal? Her 'boyfriend'... Where does she get off? Kurumu didn't even realize it, but she was feeling just a slight hint of...jealousy in the back of her mind.

"Hey, Kuru- Ahem! Kurumu!" A young man's voice called out to her, making the Succubus turn around and see Tsukune waving at her with a small smile. "Sorry to keep you guys waiting."

"Tsukune?" The Young Succubus was surprised to see that he showed up. "You're here...but, I thought-"

"Don't worry about it, everything is gonna work out just fine."

"And Moka?"

"We talked, we can get through this as fast as possible and I can get back to her afterwards."

"...But what about Elijah?"

"Who cares?"

Tsukune ignores Ageha's remark and answers Kurumu's question. "He decided to turn it in for tonight, I think he just wants to be alone right now. You know, stress and all?"

"..." Oh, no...he's not mad at me, is he?

"Oh, well! Looks like we'll just have to go on without him!" Ageha proclaims happily. "Come along, you two."

"Mom, I swear..." The Succubus mutters under her breath as her mother starts walking off, but she soon looks at the human boy. A slight frown of concern forms at the corner of her lips. "Tsukune, Elijah's not...mad, right?"

"Oh, no," He waves a hand dismissively. "not at all."

"..." Kurumu couldn't understand it, but she swore to herself that Tsukune sounded...different. Not to mention...his scent. "Are you alright, Tsukune?"

"Hmm?"

"You sound funny, and are you trying a new cologne or something?"

"Oh!" The human boy takes a second to clear his throat. "Sorry, just got a little frog in my throat, but I'm fine. And no, it's just a little humid today."

"..." Kurumu's not sure if she buys that, but she decides not to dwell on it for too long. She still has her mother to worry about. "Well, alright," The Succubus takes Tsukune in hand and they follow the older Succubus. "I'm sorry about this, again."

"It's alright, you don't have to-"

"Yes, I do," Kurumu interrupted. "I know how much you were looking forward to spending the festival with...someone else. And...stupid things got in the way of that. I'm sorry."

"...You shouldn't have to apologize for things that are out of your control, Kurumu," Tsukune gives Kurumu's hand a gentle squeeze. "Let's just get through this so we can get back to what actually matters, okay?"

"...Y-Yeah," She sadly nods, unknowingly blushing. "Okay."

They follow Kurumu's mother to a nearby table, she's already taken the liberty of ordering drinks for the three of them. "So, do tell," Ageha twirls her finger around the straw in her cup of iced tea as she watches Tsukune and Kurumu take their seats. "How did you two meet? Did my daughter put you under her little charm, leaving you helpless to her power?"

"Mom! Please!" I swear, I hate it when she does this. "I met Tsukune just like I met my other friends. I mean, yes, I charmed him, but that was wrong of me to do. One thing led to another and...I thought of him as the one for me, is that right? I even baked you some of my best chocolate chip cookies!"

"...Yep, that's..." Tsukune chuckled nervously, scratching the back of his head. "That's how it went down."

"Tsukune is not just someone in my life," Kurumu continued on. "he's one of the closest friends I have. Not my best friend, but...I still care about him more than most other boys I've met in my life." Besides, that spot's reserved for someone else.

"Is that so?" Ageha shifts her body and faces the Human boy directly. "Tell me about yourself, Tsukune."

"Oh...uh," The human boy scratched his cheek, thinking how to answer that question. "Well, I grew up in the human world all my life, I have loving parents, I'm pretty alright when it comes to studies, and I'm a part of the Newspaper Club with Kurumu."

"I see. What made you come to Yokai Academy, darling? Was it all the fine women dying for attention?"

"Mom, cut it out, please..."

"Actually...I enrolled here at Yokai Academy because...humans fascinate me."

Huh? What is he talking about?

"You see, humans may be far weaker than most Monsters and Yokai alike, but this is only true in strength. The human spirit is probably the strongest thing that I have ever witnessed in my entire life. I even had a friend back in the human world who would never back down from a fight, even when he knew the odds were against him. I believe that Humans and Monsters can learn a lot from each other."

"..." Kurumu was astonished by Tsukune's words, but not because it was the first time she had heard them. She had already heard them from someone else.

"That's why I believe we can come together and create a better world, one born of peace and kindness...and not one of blood and violence."

"Aww, now isn't that precious?" Ageha remarks, completely disregarding the young man's words...and her happy grin turns mischievous. "So, have you two done it yet?"

"Gaugh!" After hearing that question, Tsukune choked on his water, breaking into a coughing fit.

"MOM!" Kurumu exclaimed, her sweater vest soaked thanks to her own drink spilling. Great, just great! The young woman stands to her feet, wiping herself off. "I'm gonna go get washed off, try not to embarrass me anymore Mom!" I swear, that woman drives me insane sometimes...

...'Tsukune'...

COUGH! COUGH!

I try my best not to get all of the water out of my lungs before I let the spell slip, It's already taking a lot just to keep up this form and I don't want to mess things up. I can't believe I let myself get caught in my own dream talking, way to go, idiot. Well, at least Kurumu's Mom is buying it. Maybe I should tell Kurumu that it's actually me...

"Are you alright, I didn't mean to kill the mood," Ageha giggles. "Reminder that my daughter is a lot more innocent than you think," Wait, what? "She could really use some experience."

"...Uh, I don't-"

"Oh, come on," She leans closer to me...a little too close. "Next chance you get," Ageha grasps my hand...and leads it to one of her breasts. "just grab her and take her."

"Okay!" I pull my hand away. "How could you say that about your own-" I cut myself off, taking a breath. I need to act like Tsukune. "I mean, I can't just do that. Besides...she's not even sure that I'm her Destined One."

"...I beg your pardon?"

Okay, I know I'm going into uncharted territory...but she has to know. "Ms. Kurono, I'm not sure that I'm the one for your daughter. She even told me so herself that she wasn't sure, that it could be...someone else."

"..."

"And besides, I..." This is gonna feel weird to say, but I gotta commit to the role. "I'm in love with someone-"

"Hahaha...hahahaha! HAHAHAHAHA!" Ageha breaks down into a hysterical laugh. "Oh, that's a good one, young man! You really had me there for a second. 'Not sure of a Destined One'. Ha! I've never felt such humor!"

"But it's true," I say more firmly...but I calm down to keep myself from snapping. "Kurumu doesn't know if I'm the one, I think she's confused."

"Alright, let me give you a quick lesson, young man," Ageha stirs her tea, staring right into my soul. If I didn't know any better, I'd say she knew exactly whom she was starting at. "When a Succubus proclaims another as their Destined One, it's set in stone until their death. There are no 'not being sure' or 'second guesses'. Once a Succubus proclaims their love for one soul, it's for life."

"...But destiny isn't always as it seems," I spoke before I could even stop myself.

"I'm sorry, did you say something?"

"...somebody once told me that destiny is a curious thing. Just because something is 'set in stone', doesn't mean that's what it must be. Besides, destiny is just another way for a person to tell what they want, it ultimately undermines the very idea of free will. We must forge our own destiny...with our own hands."

"..." Ageha scoffs at me, pulling me closer by the color of my shirt. "That's a sweet thought, boy. But let me give you another lesson. This time, a reality check. A Succubus is a Monster that lives for love, being with our Destined Ones means everything, it's the very source of our power," She releases me, and I fall back into my chair. "Do you know what happens if a Succubi's Destined One falls for let alone ends up with someone else?" I was about to speak, but she went on without hearing what I had to say. "A Succubus with a broken heart is an empty shell, their arms and legs will feel like gelatin, their hearts beat unevenly, and their body temperatures drop below freezing. Do you understand now, Tsukune Aono? If Kurumu doesn't end up with the one she chose, she will die of a broken heart."

"..."

"It's as simple as nature itself. Now, do you understand-"

"You're wrong," I cut her off, I do my best to keep my anger in check..but it's hanging by a thread. "Kurumu isn't like other Succubi. She's pure-hearted, and she knows how to hold back her...nature, as you call it. Kurumu doesn't willingly charm others in a sick way, she's sweet, kind, loving, funny, and she truly is just a ray of sunshine to be around."

"Oh? Well then, tell me, Tsukune Aono. Who do you think her Destined One is?"

"..." I can't say that...no matter how much I want to.

"Oh, I know! You think it's that hopeless romantic, don't you?" Ageha scoffs. "What was his name again? Elijah? Please, as if someone as low as a Wizard could ever be good enough for a Succubus. Kurumu had told me plenty about him. Lord, how pathetic could a boy be? Being friend-zoned by a-"

"Ahem," The sound of a woman clearing her throat startles the older Succubus. "I don't mean to interrupt, but I was hoping for a moment of the young man's time?"

"..."

I immediately recognized her warm smile, her brown hair tied into a braid that fell in front of her left shoulder, and her eyes that matched my own. How could someone not recognize their own mother?

"Mo- Ahem! Mrs. Everett?"

"Hello, Tsukune," She smiles warmly at me. "I trust that you're in good health?"

"Uh, yes, ma'am." Okay, this is weird. I didn't even know she was coming. Does she even know that I'm not Tsukune? "What are you doing here?"

"Oh, Elijah reminded me of this special event and I decided to just 'poof' right in and say hello," She giggles at her pun. "I'm afraid I can't stay for long, I'm afraid. Where is..." Mom looks directly at Ageha, her eyes sparkling with familiarity. "Oh. My. Goodness."

"...Oh, lord," I heard the elder Succubus mutter under her breath.

"Ageha! What a surprise! I haven't seen you in such a long time."

"You know each other?" I ask.

"Oh, yes we do," My mom smirks. "We were practically rivals back in our days here at Yokai Academy. This one had all the boys chasing after her for what she had. But little did she know that it takes more than looks to truly win a man's heart. Right, Ageha?"

"..."

Damn, Mom. You left her completely speechless.

"And if you're here, that must mean Tsurara is too. I tell you, you two were at each other's throats every chance you got."

Mizore's mom? She knows her too?

"Ah, finally!" Kurumu reappears, her casual yellow sweater vest now gone and she's just wearing her white button-down. "Sorry, I took so..." She stops talking when she sees my mother. "Mrs. Everett?"

"Oh, hello, Kurumu," Mom embraces her in a warm hug. "It's good to see you again, sweetheart."

"Oh, it's..good to see you too." Kurumu awkwardly hugs her back.

"You know my daughter?"

"Of course," Mom pulls away from the Succubus, staring straight at Ageha. "She's really close with my son."

"...Tsukune here is your son? You have a-"

"Ohoho, no," Mom chuckles. "I mean Elijah, the 'hopeless romantic'? As you called him?" She sneers with an eerie grin...sending chills down my spine. "Or did I hear you wrong?"

"O-Of course not!" Ageha chuckles nervously. "I'm sure Elijah is such a charming young man, especially if he's your son, Luna! Ahehehe..."

"That's what I thought you said," Mom smiles sweetly at her before looking at Kurumu. "Speaking of, where is Elijah anyhow? I figured he would be with you, Kurumu."

"Well, yeah, but...things got in the way and..." She sighed sadly. "My mother here wanted to meet Tsukune because of...reasons, so here we are."

"Hmm..." Mom looks straight at me, smiling. "Is that so, 'Tsukune'? Aren't you infatuated by that Vampire friend of yours? Where is she?"

Okay, she definitely sees right through me. "W-Well, I..." Just as I was about to try and give a half-assed explanation, something...or rather, someone caught my eye. My eyes widened in shock as I saw...myself. A spitting image of me was just walking around with Mizore and her Mother. "What the?"

"Hmm?" My Mom followed my gaze, looking slightly shocked when she saw my doppelganger. But she quickly smiled. "Oh, there he is!"

"Huh?" Kurumu turned around, seeing 'me'. "What is he doing with her? Tsukune," She looks straight at me. "I thought you said he went to his room."

"I, uh...I did!" I get up from the table. "Excuse me for a moment, everyone," I rush over to the pair of snow fairies accompanied by this...thing with them. Little did I know that my mother and the others were right behind me. "Hey, guys!"

Mizore jumps a little after hearing my voice through clenched teeth. "Ah, Ts-Tsukune? What are you doing here?"

"Not now, Mizore," I wave her off, looking directly at...myself. Okay, this is weird. This wasn't my doing, I was planning on using a projection of myself if I ever ran into Mizore and her mother but that never happened. "What are you doing here, buddy? I thought you said you weren't feeling good."

"Oh, I thought...you...hey, Tsukune..." The copy barely made a coherent sentence, plus it looked like it was completely soaking with sweat...and it was cold.

"No, but I..." Mizore squeaked. "I thought you were looking for Moka."

"Huh?" Kurumu speaks up. "What are you talking about?"

"I saw Tsukune earlier heading up to the roof, he was sure that saw Moka go up there too..."

"Wait, huh? Tsukune was with us the whole time," Agahea looks at me suspiciously.

CRASH!

The sound of wood breaking grabbed our attention, I turned around to see...a guy had fallen from the roof and came crashing down through someone's booth. He looked like he was in his late twenties...and he was wearing a yakuza outfit. We looked up to the roof...and Tsukune was at the edge with Moka beside her. His eyes glowed red... Oh, shit...

"Wait...if that's Tsukune," Ageha looks straight at me, scowling. "Then who are you?" Everyone stared at me suspiciously...except for my mother who had a cheeky grin.

"...Ehehe...Toodle-loo!" I try to run but my mother grabs me by my ear and she grabs onto the copy too before looking at the others with a smile.

"I'll take care of these two for you, It was so nice to see all of you again."

"Now hold on," Tsurara speaks up. "Elijah promised to have dinner with my daughter and..." She stops herself when her eyes meet my Mother's "...L-Luna?"

"Surely you don't have a problem with that, Tsurara?"

POOF!

Kurumu

"Okay, what is going on here?!" The young Succubus exclaimed as she watched Elijah's mother disappear with a supposedly fake Tsukune and a stiff Elijah.

"What do you think?" Mizore starts answering. "The Tsukune you were with and the Elijah I was with were fakes. My Elijah was an ice doll, as for the Tsukune you were with...I think I know exactly who it was. I would've gotten away with it too if I hadn't run into you."

"That's not what I was asking!" Kurumu grabbed Mizore by her shoulders, angry. "I want to know why you did this!"

"...Because I upset Elijah. He had his own idea of wanting to spend the first day of the festival...and we ruined it. Unlike you, I didn't want to continue making his night even more dreadful."

"Hey! I feel bad about all this just as much as you! Don't go pointing fingers just because you feel bad!"

"Oh, really? How long did you know that your Mother was coming to the festival?"

"..."

"That's what I thought."

"Shut up..." Kurumu mutters in defeat.

It was true. For nearly two weeks before the festival, she had known that her mother was visiting. And every day since, she had dreaded explaining her situation to her mother, let alone devising a plan for telling the boys about her. Kurumu knows better than anyone that her Mom is very strict and mindfully traditional when it comes to her love life, she would usually get an earful in her junior high life for never finding a suitable mate and her mother would always push her to find her Destined One.

But a more serious question entered her mind. That Tsukune I was with... It didn't take too long for the Succubus to realize who she and her mother had been with, she may be slacking in her academic studies, but that didn't mean she was a fool. There was only one other person who spoke of humans in such a way, that he was fascinated by all that they could create...and dreamed of true peace between both races.

"...Elijah," The name of her best friend unintentionally leaves her lips in a quiet whisper...and she finds herself smiling. You dummy...

"Mizore."

"Kurumu."

Both young girls jolted at the condescending tone of their mothers turning around and seeing their eerie smiles. "Do you want to explain yourself?"

"..."

"..."

Crap...

Moka...earlier...

The Young Vampire found herself on the roof of Yokai Academy, looking down over the railing to the many people below her. Moka sighed sadly, thinking back to a similar feeling in her youth. It's not fair... Tsukune was supposed to be with me tonight. Now... Moka groans. Dammit, Kurumu! Why do you have to get in the way? I thought you and Elijah were...

"...Nothing's changed since I was a little girl," The Young Vampire's thoughts come out as a soft mutter. "I hate having to spend another festival by myself...don't you, Inner Me?"

"Leave me out of this."

"Oh, come on. Didn't you at least want to spend tonight with Tsukune?"

"...How you and I feel about that boy are two completely different things."

"Why do you keep saying that? I mean, you were there when he said that...he loves us," Moka found herself smiling, her face as red as the blood she craved from the human boy.

"..."

"Hehe," She chuckled. "Did I get you somewhere in your heart, Inner Me?"

"Don't push it," The Rosary around Moka's neck rattles. "I already feel ridiculous in this kimono you forced us to wear."

"But you're the one who-"

CLICK!

The clicking of the roof door access stops the vampire mid-sentence, making her turn back to the opening door...but a hand covers her mouth, preventing her from screaming. "All alone, huh?" A low, raspy voice penetrates the young woman's eardrums. "A fine-looking fox like you on a night like tonight? You need somebody to show you a good time."

Moka manages to fight out of the older boy's grip, seeing his full appearance. He had a tattoo planted over the top of his head that went all the way down his left arm...and he was wearing a yakuza outfit. "Don't touch me I'm warning you!"

"Oh? You gonna scream? Go ahead. Think anyone's gonna save you tonight? There's a festival going on down there, all anyone cares about is having fun," The Yakuza guy gets closer to Moka, grasping her chin and forcing her to make eye contact.

SMACK!

The guy stumbles a few steps back...holding his cheek after receiving a firm smack from the Vampire. "Don't...touch me!"

"Hot damn!" The Yakuza smirked. "You're a feisty one! The more I look at you, the tastier you look. I don't get a lot of girls in the human world, I was looking forward to scoring tonight," He licks his lips with malice. "And it looks like luck is on my si-"

SLAM!

"RRAAAAGGGHH!"

The loud thud of the roof door slamming open followed by the battle cry of a familiar human gives Moka hope...Tsukune has come to her rescue. He punches the Yakuza directly in his lower spine, causing the thug to be launched through the concrete railing and fall down from the roof.

"WAUGH!"

RUMBLE!

THUD!

CRASH!

Tsukune looks over the edge, seeing the Yakua trash's body sprawled out in an uncomfortable way. The human scoffed in satisfaction. "Looks like you won't be touching anyone any time soon, you son of a bitch." Tsukune's eyes squint down at the crowd below, seeing...a spitting image of himself next to Kurumu. "...Oops."

"Tsukune?"

"Damn," The human boy scratches the back of his head, stepping back from the edge of the roof. "I didn't mean to push him off the roof."

"W-What are you doing here? I thought...I thought you had to go with Kurumu and her mother."

"Yeah, but I got out of it. Let's just say that Elijah took care of it."

"But...wasn't he-"

"Yeah...but Mizore took care of that. I ran into her before I found you."

"...But why?"

"Isn't it obvious?" Tsukune scratched his cheek as it turned red. "The first one who asked to spend the night with me...was you, Moka."

"..." The young Vampire girl found herself red as a tomato at Tsukune's words.

"Come on," Tsukune takes her hand in his own.

"Where are we going?" Her question makes Tsukune smile.

"You'll see."

The young man leads the young girl back to their classroom, finding it completely empty. Perfect. No one is here to disturb them, and every one of their friends is preoccupied. "Oh, Tsukune," Moka speaks in a soft muble. I've always dreamed of this moment, a special night...with a special someone. And here we are, Tsukune and me...all alone.

"Well, we're alone now," Tsukune repeats the Vampire's thoughts. "Wanna do it?"

"O-Oh!" Tsukune's bluntness makes Moka blush. "D-Do what?"

"Goldfish scooping," Tsukune holds up two small nets in his hands with a big cheeky smile on his face. "You said you've never done it, right?"

"..."

Moka didn't even realize it, but she was crying. But these were not tears of sadness, but of joy. She couldn't believe Tsukune remembered such a silly little thing, and that he was going out of his way for her sake. Moka takes a mental note to remember to thank Elijah for helping Tsukune tonight.

The Young Vampire lets out a happy chuckle. "Yes!"

Elijah

"I see, so that's what happened."

"Yeah..." I rubbed my earlobe as Mom looked straight at me with a wide grin, she practically ripped it off as she demanded to know what was going on. "Ow..." Man, I forgot how strong she can be. And...were Ageha and Tsurara...afraid of my mom?

"Well, I'm happy to see you looking after your friends, honey. And that you've been keeping up with your progress, I almost didn't realize it was you."

"What gave me away?"

"A mother always knows," Mom giggles, and I respond with a sigh. Somehow I just knew she would say that.

"I didn't know you were coming."

"Well, I'm afraid I can't stay for too long, Elijah," Aw, man, seriously? "Your father and I are facing a substantial amount of work in the human world, and I'm afraid something is developing within the shadows of our world."

The fear in her voice worries me. "What do you mean?"

"As you're well aware, Elijah, there are many dark Wizards, Witches, Mages, and Warlocks alike on Earth."

"Yes," I nod. "My friends were even attacked by a Warlock who was hunting me."

"Then they are very lucky to have made it out alive, it's not in most Warlock's nature to be merciful. They would not hesitate to use the Forbidden spells as they see fit. The numbers of these dark magic folk have grown less in number over the centuries, thank the heavens. But recent developments led me and fellow associates of mine to believe that something big is developing right under our noses."

"What kind of developments?"

"For years, there were always reports of heinous acts across the globe that threaten the very way we live. But as of recently...they've gone quiet. Ever since the ancient power within you has reawakened, no sightings of any dark magic wielders have been reported."

"..." That's definitely not a good sign, but no one like that has come back to Yokai Academy...but that doesn't mean they're not looking. "...Are they hunting me?"

"...We don't know, but all possible explanations lead back to the Blessed Child. They could be organizing a search party of sorts, or they could planning for something beyond even my comprehension. I'm required to gather as much knowledge as I can and your father will accompany me, he'll be safer that way."

"..."

"What's wrong, sweetie?" Mom notices my uneasiness. "You don't have to worry about your father and me, I know how to deal with the likes of them."

"It's not that," I shook my head. "I know you and Dad will be alright, you're more powerful than I am..." My words fall flat as I'm reminded of my own failures as...the Blessed Child. "Mom?"

"Yes?"

"...Was I really meant to be...this?" I roll up my left sleeve, revealing the mark I forever bear. "I'm trying my best to be what everyone thinks I am. But time and time again I've had to be saved by...someone else. It's like I still can't do anything on my own, like...I'm still weak."

"What are you saying?"

"..." Well, I guess this conversation was bound to happen sooner or later. "Mom, ever since I could even fathom the very concept of magic, I only ever wanted one thing in my entire life. Who am I? Am I a Mage, a Sorcerer, a Wizard...a Warlock? Or...am I just a human just pretending to be something I'm not? And now that I'm...the 'Blessed Child', a Wizard...you even told me so yourself many times that I'm going to do great things someday. But...there are times when I have no idea what I'm even doing, you saw so yourself earlier. All my friends see me as the voice of reason, someone they can count on, but...I don't even know who I am half the time. And I know I shouldn't be saying this because I know I'm expected to be...but I don't even know if I deserve this power. I mean, Merlin doesn't even speak to me when I meditate anymore..." I look down at my hands...and only now do I realize that they're shaking. "All my life...I wanted to be just like you, but I still can't do much on my own. I'm still weak... I don't even know if I deserve to be your so-"

"Now you stop right there this instant, young man," Mom forces me to look at her, well, down at her. It's easy to forget that she's slightly shorter than me. "Don't you dare say that about yourself, and never listen to that criticizing voice in the back of your head, it's your own worst critic. Listen to me, sweetie," Her hands fall to her side, but her gaze never falters. "If anyone is to blame for making you feel this way, It's me and my poor decisions. I spent your entire laugh knowing the responsibility you were given at the moment of your birth...and I kept it from you...and I never thought about how it would make you feel. I was blessed with a kind, strong, loving, compassionate, bright, and clever child...and he was born to a pitiful excuse for a mother."

"Mom!" I hug her without even a second thought. "Please don't say that, I couldn't have asked for a better mother in the entire world. You taught me so much about everything you've learned about the world, you and Dad. You showed me the best side of our world, and how it should be fought for and protected at all costs. You gave me my dream, you gave me so much and I'll never be able to repay you for that. So, please...don't say that you're a poor excuse for a mother, I think you are the best Mom in the world!"

"...My boy..." I pull away from her, my hands falling to my side.

"I may not know exactly who I am, not yet anyway. But I'll figure it out, It's what Merlin said, after all. 'I must forge my path with my own hands'. And that's exactly what I'm gonna do."

"I already know who you are," Mom cups my cheek, gently stroking it with her thumb. "You are Elijah Everett. You are my son, and you will be the greatest Wizard that ever lived...if you aren't already."

"...Thanks, Mom."

"Alright," She pulls away from me, smiling. "I think that's enough sentiment for one night. I must be going now."

"Already? What about everyone else?" I was hoping that she could properly meet everyone this time.

"I'm sure you'll give them my regards, especially Ageha and Tsurara," My mom chuckles in amusement, which reminds me...

"Back there, they seemed...afraid of you. Why is that?"

"Well... Let's just say I gave those girls a run for their money back in my days here at Yokai Academy. I was not one to be trifled with back in my youth, Elijah."

"I can imagine," I chuckle.

"Which reminds me, be sure to say hello to Shizu for me. I'm afraid I couldn't find her anywhere."

"Shizu? Oh, you mean Ms. Nekonome?"

"Yes," Mom nodded. "I do miss her a bunch, we were best friends in our day, you know?"

"Yeah, I remember. Why don't you stay? I mean...I'm sure the others want to see you again."

"I would love to, more than anything. But my attention is needed elsewhere. Don't worry, there's always parent day to look forward to."

"Parent day?" I tilt my head in confusion.

"Oops," Mom partially covers her mouth as if she just accidentally revealed a secret. "Oh, well, second-year students have their parents visit Yokai Academy to see all the progress that they've made in their studies. It also serves as another reunion for those who have also attended the school."

"Oh, that's...really cool, actually. But what about dad?"

"I have my ways around that issue," Mom giggles mischievously. "But that's for another letter to discuss. Remind that bird companion of yours not to get any of his feathers attached to the parcels."

I laugh a little. "I'll be sure to tell him."

"Good," Mom brings me into another warm hug, this time with the intent of saying goodbye. "I love you, Elijah."

"Love you too, Mom." She releases her grip on me and I do the same. A bright yellow glow comes from the magical circle forming at her feet, she's about to teleport away.

"Be sure to give all your friends my regards, especially that cute Succubus friend of yours," She giggles at that last part, making my cheeks burn.

"Seriously, Mom?"

"Sorry, couldn't help myself. Either way, she already has my blessing."

"Wha-"

POOF!

Mom phased away in a flash of yellow before I could even get another word out, leaving me alone...again. I sigh as I look up at the night sky. I wonder how the others are getting on? Maybe I should go back and check on them? Actually, no, they're probably too busy dealing with their mothers right about now. Oh, well...there's always tomorrow. I still have time.

"Elijah?"

"Kuru?" When did she get here? I didn't even hear anyone approach. "Hey, uh...how much of that did you hear?"

"Oh, I just saw the flash of light and headed over here. I guess that was your Mom heading out?"

"Y-Yeah, she sends you her regards, by the way."

"Oh...that's nice."

I noticed the slight disappointment in her voice as she looked off to the side. "What's wrong?"

"Well...I wanted to apologize to her."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, after everything that happened with...the Security Committee," Kurumu's voice squeaks at the mention of that horrific day. "I...wasn't exactly nice to her, especially how she was taking you away from us. I wanted to apologize for being so mean to her."

"Oh... Well, I don't think you have to worry about that, she doesn't harbor any negative feelings towards you. In fact," I kick a nearby pebble across the path. "...I think she likes you."

Kurumu's violet eyes shined in the rising moonlight at my statement. "Really?"

"Well, yeah, of course."

"..."

"..." Neither of us knew what to say after that so we just stood in an awkward silence for what felt like forever. I see the slight blush rising on Kurumu's cheeks, which only adds more to my nerves.

"...Thank you."

I didn't hear what Kurumu muttered under her breath. "Huh? What did you-"

"I said thank you for...you know, my Mom?"

"...Oh," I rub the back of my neck, feeling just how hot it's gotten. "It was nothing. I didn't cause you and Mizore any trouble, did I?"

"Not really," She shrugged. "We just got a stern talking-to, only because there was a crowd. But we didn't tell them it was you disguised as Tsukune."

"Good. I think I'm already on good terms with Mizore's Mother, but I don't think your mom likes me very much."

"What do you mean?"

"...Don't worry about it, it's...no big deal." I try to change the subject...but only one other thing comes to mind. Now or never, I guess. Well, now or tomorrow, technically. "Do you know the special event that happens tomorrow?"

Kurumu thinks for a moment, her nose scrunching up in deep thought. "Oh, the bonfire dance? What about it?"

"...Well," Come on, Elijah... I manage to make eye contact with Kurumu, pushing down the rising pit in my stomach. "Would you...and, of course, you don't have to, but..." Just spit it out already! "...Would you want to share a dance with me?"

"..." I watched as Kurumu's face went through many emotions in what felt like an eternity, but little did we know that the silence was for only five seconds. There was shock, disbelief, embarrassment, shyness, and finally...a small smile of happiness. "...I'd like that."

"..." I found myself speechless for a second. Did I just hear her right? "...Really?"

"Yes, dummy," The Succubus chuckles, punching my arm. "It sounds like fun."

"...Well...awesome."

"Yeah," She nods. "Well, I better attend to my Mom, she still won't shut up about meeting the 'real' Tsukune." Kurumu rolls her eyes. "I swear..."

I chuckle. "Sounds like you have your hands full."

"You have no idea..."

"Want me to tag along?"

"No, that's okay," Kurumu shook her head at me, slightly messing up her sky-blue hair. "I can handle it. I'll see you tomorrow, okay?"

"Yeah," I nod, feeling a big smile tug at the corners of my mouth. I don't care how stupid I look, I'm happy. "you bet."

Kurumu waves me off and starts walking away, but she stops herself and looks back at me with a smile of her own. "One last thing..."

"What's- Oh!" My best friend wraps her arms around my neck in a warm and loving hug as she nuzzles her face in the crook of my neck, my arms naturally react by wrapping themselves around her waist. We hold our hug not as long as I hoped. If I had my way, I would want to stay here forever. "...Thanks."

Kurumu pulls her head away from my neck, looking at me with a hint of confusion. "For what?"

"Just...being you, I guess. I needed this."

"Anytime, dummy," She pokes my nose, making me laugh before we release ourselves from the hug. "See you tomorrow, okay?"

"See ya, Kuru." I wave as she leaves. I waited a few good minutes for her to get out of sight...and I leaped high in the air, throwing my hands up in victory. "WOOOOOOOO!"
