Chapter 11: High Speed Surprises

It was time for the final match of the preliminary rounds of the Fortune Cup.
"Alright folks, after that explosive third match it's time for our final match: Yusei vs Gogo!" The MC declares.
In the back, we see Yusei working on his runner as Bolt and Roxas stand nearby.
"What do you know about this Gogo?" Yusei asks curious.
"She's the Speed Queen of the Underworld Duels. Let me tell you, she didn't earn that title by pulling any punches." Bolt warns.
"We've certainly been seeing a different side of her." Yusei points out.
"That's because I earned her help. She's tough Yusei. My win wasn't official but she had me on the ropes." Roxas warns as Yusei grabs his deck.
"You gonna use Stardust Dragon against her?" Bolt asks.
"No, I'm saving it for my duel with Jack. And when I face him, he's going to wish he never gave it back to me." Yusei said determined.
"Don't underestimate her Yusei," Roxas said.
"I never said I was." Yusei points out.
Outside the arena, we see a man with wild red hair, sunglasses, wearing black leather, and a black hot rod duel runner. This was Hunter Pace, the former Turbo Duel Champion until Jack came along.
And let me tell you, he was eager to reclaim his title.
"Jack Atlas, I can't believe you didn't invite me to your little party. But then again, it'll be fun crashing it." Hunter grins revving his runner and racing towards the arena.
"Stop right there!" A sector security officer orders as they fan out to prevent him from entering.
"Oh no you don't," Hunter said increasing his speed.
"Pull over!" They ordered but Hunter leaps over them and drives into the arena.
Running after him, Sector Security turns a corner only to see another officer meet them.
"We have this corridor blocked off! Head over to the east side." He points.
"You heard him, let's move!" They said running off.
As the officer turns around, we see it was Hunter under that uniform.
He was about to move in when he noticed Lazar and Gogo walking down the hall.
Quickly running down the hall, he listened in on their conversation.
"You know, we originally planned on using Shira the Reaper for our 8th slot." Lazar points out.
"That loser? You'd be better off with one of your pro-league punks. I beat him weeks ago." Gogo scoffs.
"Yes, we're aware you beat him. But make no mistake, this Satellite won't be an easy win. In an off-the-record duel, he defeated Jack Atlas." Lazar states surprising Gogo and Hunter.
"Someone beat Jack?" Hunter gasps.
"I see. So, what is it you want?" Gogo asks.
"I just want to make sure you're aware. Duel Yusei and all your charges will be dropped, but if for any reason we think you're going easy on him…" Lazar starts.
"I don't go easy on anyone. Trust me, I don't care if he did hold his own against Jack. I'm gonna take him down." Gogo vows making Lazar grin.
"That's what we want to hear," Lazar said walking away.
'So Yusei beat Jack huh? And she's facing him?' Hunter thought getting an idea.
Blowing a bubble, Gogo pops it before putting the gum on her helmet.
"Excuse me little lady but I have some bad news," Hunter said grabbing her shoulder.
"What?" Gogo turns only for a fist to come in, but to Hunter's surprise, she grabs it.
Eyes widening, Hunter saw Gogo glaring at him.
"You did not just try to do that," Gogo said in a cold tone.
Instantly, Hunter was beginning to regret that decision.
Up in the stands, Bolt had rejoined the others.
"Roxas couldn't join us, but he'll be watching the duel from the waiting room," Bolt explains.
"I was looking forward to congratulating him." Tifa sighs.
"Oh really? Were you going to give him a victory kiss?" Jessie teases.
"Knock it off." Tifa blushes.
"Finally, it's Yusei's turn," Leo said eagerly.
"I wonder if he's as good as you say?" Dexter said curious.
"Oh trust me, he is. I can't wait to see Yusei Turbo Duel." Yanagi smiles.
'I wonder what Goodwin wants with Yusei? First, he let him out of the facility and now he's in this tournament. What's going on?' Bolt thought curious.
"Alright Fortune Cup Fans! It's time for the first Turbo Duel of this tournament!" The MC said as the crowd cheered. "First up, is Yusei Fudo!"
From his side, Yusei launched out on his runner and raced to the starting line.
But unlike most competitors, he was met with jeers instead of cheers.
"Boo!"
"Go back to the Satellite!"
"Let's go Yusei!" Leo cheers while Roxas and Jack watch from their separate rooms.
From the exit, Mulan was watching with interest.
"So this is the guy that kept beating Trudge." Mulan smirks. "If he's half as annoying as Roxas he might be a decent duelist."
"And his competitor, the Speed Queen of the Underground, Gogo Tomago!" The MC declares but to everyone's confusion, she didn't show up. "Uh, Gogo? That's your cue?"
"Where's Gogo?" Tifa asks curious.
"There's no way she would miss a chance to duel," Jessie said.
"Did something happen to her on the way in?" Roxas asks watching this on TV.
A few seconds later, Gogo shot out of her corner and towards the starting line.
"There she is! Looks like Gogo wanted to keep us waiting!" The MC said as she pulled up alongside Yusei.
"Where were you?" Yusei asks.
"Got a little held up," Gogo shrugs casually.
Cutting to the hallway, we see Hunter Pace on the ground with broken sunglasses to reveal a black eye and several bruises on him.
"That…bitch." Hunter groans as Security surrounds him.
"Take him down Gogo!"
"Show that scum he's not welcome here!"
"Why are these people putting down Yusei? They don't even know him." Leo asks.
"Because he's a Satellite. They think people from Satellite are scum." Jessie answers.
"Not to mention that Facility Marker isn't doing him any favors either." Tifa points out.
"Alright Satellite, show us what you're made of," Zigzix said setting up his machine.
"With both duelists at the starting line, there's only thing left to do. Start your runners!" MC declares.
"Speed World activated. Autopilot standing by." Around them, Speed World activated surrounding the entire arena.
"This is the point of no return. Both Duelists have activated their Speed World field spell. Now the only spells they can use are Speed Spells.
"Turbo Duelists countdown initiated. Ready…Duel!"
Revving their engines both duelists raced across the field.
Yusei: 4000 SC: 0
Gogo: 4000 SC: 0
"I'll go first." Gogo drew. "I summon Speedroid Den-Den Daiko Duke in attack mode!" Gogo said summoning a little kid monster who had a toy den-den daiko in his hands.
Speedroid Den-Den Daiko Duke: 1000/1000
"And I'll place one card facedown. Let's see you keep up with that." Gogo taunts.
"Trust me I will." Yusei drew.
Yusei: 4000 SC: 1
Gogo: 4000 SC: 1
"And my Speed Warrior should prove more than a match for your Daiko Duke!" Yusei said summoning his warrior.
Speed Warrior: 900/ 400
"And Yusei immediately goes on the offensive. On the turn Speed Warrior is summoned his attack points are doubled." The MC said as Speed Warrior glowed powering up.
Speed Warrior: 1800
"Speed Warrior attack!" Yusei said as his warrior charged in and kicked Gogo's monster destroying it.
Yusei: 4000 SC: 1
Gogo: 3200 SC: 1
"I place one card facedown and end my turn," Yusei said as his monster's attack went back to normal.
"You're definitely Roxas' friend. That wasn't bad." Gogo admits. "But this duel is just getting warmed up. My turn." Gogo drew.
Yusei: 4000 SC: 2
Gogo: 3200 SC: 2
"Since you have a monster and I don't I can special summon Speedroid Terrortop," Gogo said summoning her top monster.
Speedroid Terrortop: 1200/ 600
"And when he's summoned, I can add a Speedroid card from my deck to my hand. And now I summon Speedroid Tri-Eyed Dice." Gogo said summoning her dice monster.
Speedroid Tri-Eye: 300/1500
"Uh oh, I know what's coming now." Roxas cringed knowing this combo was all too well.
"I tune my level 3 Terrortop with my Tri-Eye Dice in order to Synchro Summon Hi-Speedroid Kendama!" Gogo said summoning her Kendama monster
Hi-Speedroid Kendama: 2200/1600
"Uh oh looks like Gogo is about to launch a devastating counter." The MC said.
"Go Hi-Kendama attack his Speed Warrior!" Gogo said as Kendama fired a beam piercing Speed Warrior and damaging Yusei making him cringe in pain.
Yusei: 2700 SC: 1
Gogo: 3200 SC: 2
"And if you think I'm done, think again. By removing Tri-Eyed Dice from my graveyard I can deal an extra 500 points of damage." Gogo said as Kendama charged up hitting Yusei again.
Yusei: 2200 SC: 1
Gogo: 3200 SC: 2
"See you at the finish line," Gogo said gaining the lead as Yusei started lagging.
"What an upset! In just one turn Gogo Tomago has gained a massive lead in both lifepoints and Speed counters leaving Yusei in the dust!" The MC said amazed.
"She's awesome!" A fan said.
"Yeah, she is, that Satellite has got nothing on her." Another said.
"It seems we made the right choice after all. The Speed Queen really knows how to lay on the pressure. If Yusei doesn't show his signer abilities soon he's done for." Lazar smirks.
"She's good, but is she good enough?" Goodwin ponders.
"Not bad, but it'll take a lot more than that to shake me," Yusei said drawing a card.
Yusei: 2200 SC: 2
Gogo: 3200 SC: 3
"I activate the Spell Summon Speed to summon Quilbolt Hedgehog to the field in defense mode," Yusei said summoning an orange hedgehog.
Quilbolt Hedgehog: 800/800
"Next, I summon my own Tuner Monster, Junk Synchron," Yusei said summoning his tuner monster.
Junk Synchron: 1300/ 500
"And thanks to his special ability I can special summon my Speed Warrior in defense mode," Yusei said summoning his warrior back to the field.
"Yes. Time for a comeback." Roxas grins eager to see Yusei's next move.
"Now I tune my Level 3 Junk Synchron with Level 2 Speed Warrior to synchro summon Junk Warrior!" Yusei said summoning his purple synchro warrior.
Junk Warrior: 2300/ 1300
"Whoa good move." Leo grins.
"His warrior is more than strong enough for Gogo's monster." Jessie agrees.
"When my Junk Warrior is summoned, he absorbs attack points of all level 2 or below monsters. Like my Quilbolt Hedgehog." Yusei said as his monster glowed bright.
Junk Warrior: 3100
"Attack her Kendama, Scrap Fist!" Yusei said as Junk Warrior flew in and punched Kendama destroying it.
Yusei: 2200 SC: 2
Gogo: 2300 SC: 3
"Thanks for that. I activate my trap Synchro Panic. When a Synchro monster on my field is destroyed, I can summon two monsters that equal its level as long as one is a tuner monster and the other isn't," Gogo said resummoning Terrortop and Den-Den Daiko Duke to the field in defense mode.
"She may have lost her monster, but Gogo got the next best thing." Bolt cringed.
"Now she can summon a new monster on her next turn," Tifa said.
"Typical Gogo, just when you think you have an edge, she throws something like that at you," Roxas growls speaking from experience.
"I end my turn with one card facedown," Yusei said setting one card.
"My turn." Gogo drew.
Yusei: 2200 SC: 3
Gogo: 2300 SC: 4
"I summon Speedroid Red-Eyed Dice in defense mode!" Gogo said summoning her dice monster.
Speedroid Red-Eyed Dice: 100/100
"Next I activate its special ability to bring my Terrortop to level 5," Gogo said increasing its level.
"With Terrortop now at level 5 she can summon a level 6, level 8, or even level 9 monster." Luna points out.
"Either way, it's not gonna be good for Yusei." Jessie cringed.
"I tune my level 5 Terrortop with my level 3 Den-Den Daiko Duke to Synchro Summon, Hi Speedroid Kitedrake!" Gogo roars as her most powerful monster appears and roared echoing through the stadium.
Hi-Speedroid Kitedrake: 3000/ 2800
"You're good Yusei, but this is the end!" Gogo declares racing alongside her monster.
"Whoa! What kind of monster is that?!" Leo gasps.
"It's Gogo's ace. Whenever she plays that card, it's a guaranteed win." Tifa gulps.
"Guaranteed?" Yanagi panics not liking that one bit.
In the back, Roxas was in disbelief. She didn't get to use that monster in their duel but he remembered seeing it when he first went to the Underground Circuit. She destroyed her opponent with that card.
"My Kitedrake has a super powerful special ability. Once per turn, I can activate one of Kitedrake's special abilities and I choose to destroy every other card on the field!" Gogo declares as Kitedrake flaps its wings creating a giant windstorm and destroying her Red Eyed Dice, Yusei's monsters, and his facedown cards.
"Yusei look out!" Roxas gasps thinking this is the end.
But to everyone's surprise, when the storm cleared Speed Warrior was on the field in defense mode.
"What is this?! Yusei still has a monster on his field?!" The MC gasps.
"What is he doing?! I destroyed all your cards." Gogo asks.
"It's because you destroyed all my cards that he's there. When you destroyed my facedown cards one of them was Limiter Break and when it's destroyed, I can summon Speed Warrior from my graveyard." Yusei states.
Narrowing her eyes, that move was usually Gogo's finisher.
"Kitedrake destroy his Speed Warrior," Gogo said as Kitedrake blasted Speed Warrior with a green breath attack. "You got lucky this turn, but next turn you're mine. Since I have a Wind Monster on my field, I can summon Speedroid Taketomborg in defense mode!"
Appearing alongside her Kitedrake, was a small machine monster.
Taketomborg: 600/ 1200
"Now even if he takes down that Kitedrake she'll have something for defense. Smart move." Mulan said impressed.
"Yusei narrowly avoids defeat, but he better make this next turn count or it's game over!" The MC declares.
"Come on Yusei. If I can win, so can you." Roxas said.
'Show me your power Yusei. Show me the mark of the dragon.' Goodwin urged.
"What an amusing turn of events." Lazar chuckles
"It's my turn," Yusei said reaching for his deck and drawing a card.
Yusei: 2200 SC: 4
Gogo: 2300 SC: 5
"I summon the tuner monster Nitro Synchron!" Yusei said summoning his red tuner monster.
Nitro Synchron: 300/ 100
"Now that I have a tuner monster on my field, I can bring Quilbolt Hedgehog back from my graveyard," Yusei said resummoning his hedgehog monster. "You're not the only one with dice cards Gogo. I activate the Speed Spell Tune-Up 123. This card lets me roll a dice and depending on what I roll I can increase the level of a tuner monster by a certain number."
Looking at his screen a dice rolled and landed on a..5.
"Yes! A 5 means that I can increase my Nitro Synchron by 3," Yusei said as Nitro Synchron went up to level 5.
"With his Nitro Synchron at level 5 and his Quilbolt at level 2." Dexter starts.
"He can synchro summon a level 7 monster!" Leo interrupts.
"I tune my Nitro Synchron with Quilbolt Hedgehog to synchro summon Nitro Warrior!"
Appearing alongside him, Yusei's green warrior appeared.
Nitro Warrior: 2800/ 1800
"And thanks to Nitro Warrior's effect, I get to draw a card when he's summoned," Yusei said drawing an extra card.
"Not a bad card Yusei but it's not enough to beat my Kitedrake." Gogo said racing ahead.
"Wrong. Because since I activated a spell card this turn my Nitro Warrior gains 1000 attack points." Yusei said as his warrior powered up.
Nitro Warrior: 3800
"Nitro Warrior attack Hi-Speedroid Kitedrake! Dynamite Knuckle!" Yusei said as Nitro Warrior flew in and punched Kitedrake destroying it.
Yusei: 2200 SC: 4
Gogo: 1500 SC: 5
"Good move, but I still have a chance to win." Gogo cringed.
"Not for long. You see Gogo, my Nitro Warrior has one more special ability. I can change the position of one defense monster on your side of the field and attack again." Yusei explains making her gasp.
"So my defense is being used against me?" Gogo gasped as her monster changed to attack mode.
"Nitro attack!" Yusei orders as his warrior flies in.
"Amazing! Yusei has pulled off an amazing comeback victory!" The MC said as Nitro Warrior punched Taketomborg destroying it.
Yusei: 2200
Gogo: 0000
"And that's it! Yusei has pulled off an amazing win!" The MC declares.
"He did it! I knew he could!" Leo grins.
"Looks like we're both moving onto the next round." Roxas smiles happy for him.
As Gogo pulled over, Yusei approached her.
"That was a good duel," Yusei said.
"Listen up, Yusei. I don't lose often and when I do it's only to the best. So since you beat me, that means you better plan on winning this whole thing." Gogo states.
"Count on it," Yusei said nodding in acknowledgement.
"Just so you know, next time we duel I plan on winning," Gogo said determined.
"I'll be waiting," Yusei said as Gogo turned to leave.
As she made her way down the hall, she noticed Roxas waiting to meet her.
"That was quite the duel," Roxas said.
"Thanks but I guess my Fortune Cup days are over," Gogo said taking off her helmet.
"So what are you going to do now?" Roxas asks curious.
"I don't know, all my charges are dropped so I'm free to go back to my Underground duels if I want to," Gogo said.
"Well, maybe while you're figuring it out you stick around with us?" Roxas offers surprising her.
"Really? You still want me around?" Gogo asks.
"Why not? You've been a big help to me lately. If you don't mind I'd like to know I can still count on you." Roxas said.
Smiling softly Gogo didn't mind that he still wanted her around.
"I guess I can put my plans on hold until the Fortune Cup is over." Gogo shrugs.
"Thanks, Gogo." Roxas smiles.
"Guess I'll be joining the twins in the Loser stands," Gogo said. "Oh and Roxas? You better win your next duel too."
"Count on it," Roxas said as the two of them fist-bumped.
Meanwhile, Zigzix was disappointed to see he didn't get any signer readings this time either.
"Gogo was too weak to bring out Yusei's powers." Goodwin declares.
"In that case, I suggest for the next round he gets a very dangerous opponent," Lazar said with an evil laugh.
"What's going on?" Jack asks standing up from his seat. "This tournament isn't just about getting the chance to duel me. What are you planning?" Jack asks suspiciously.
"All in good time Jack. All in good time." Goodwin assures.
"So, shall we announce the semifinal matches?" Lazar asks.
"Not yet, I have one more duel I want you to set up before the day is over," Goodwin states getting Lazar's attention.
The preliminaries are over, but Goodwin's plans were far from over as the Fortune Cup has one more surprise up its sleeve for the first day.
