Chapter XIII
Rosalie looked towards the stairs suspiciously Sunday morning, as that was where Alice and Edward had ventured off to about twenty minutes ago. The two of them were acting strangely, suspiciously rather, especially Alice. She was being so dodgy and shifty, and absolutely nervous ever since she had returned from school on Thursday. As for Edward, he was busy sulking—which actually wasn't that strange, as he did brood a lot—because Bella finally had the balls to break up with him. He was also angry for some unknown reason, though it could also just be because of the breakup. She knew whatever the reason, it had to do with Bella breaking up with him. She just wondered what happened following.
She heard Carlisle's Mercedes coming down the road before it reached the driveway and listened as it pulled into the garage, him returning from working the graveyard shift at the hospital. It wasn't long before Carlisle was walking into the house, a troubled expression on his face. Esme walked out of the kitchen to the living room, greeting her mate with a smile and a kiss. Taking note of his troubled expression as well, she asked, "What's wrong, Carlisle?"
"Well," Carlisle began. "I heard some gossip at the hospital last night. Everyone walking talking about Bella being pregnant, and how Edward isn't the father. But what's troubling is that the entire town knows about it. What I'm mostly troubled about though is how it was revealed."
Rosalie found herself intrigued by her coven leader's words. However, she had a feeling she was going to be pissed off once she heard more.
Esme frowned. "How was Bella's pregnancy revealed?"
Before Carlisle could answer, Edward came down the stairs followed by Alice. Seeing his father-figure looking at him, Edward asked, "What is it, Carlisle?"
By the frown on his face, it was obvious that Carlisle was hiding his thoughts from his son. Looking him square in his eyes, Carlisle asked, "Edward, is it true that you purposely revealed that Bella was pregnant and that you weren't the one to get her pregnant?"
A gasp from Esme followed Carlisle's question. Rosalie eyes hardened at hearing the question, her fists clenching as she tried to contain her anger at her stupid brother. She waited impatiently for him to answer, knowing good and well he was about to lie. If he knew what was good for him, he had better speak the truth. Not that it mattered, because she was going to slap him either way.
Edward looked at Carlisle for a moment before answering, "No, I did not."
Rosalie looked past him towards Alice, looking at her shifty eyes and guilty expression. That was all the confirmation she needed to know Edward was lying about purposely revealing Bella's pregnancy. Instantly pissed, the blonde vampire growled before rushing Edward, slapping him across his face and making him fall into the wall along the stairs, crushing the drywall as the slap reverberated in the house.
"Rosalie!" Alice exclaimed.
"You disgusting pig! I can't believe you would do something like that, and then try to lie about it!" Rosalie yelled at him. "How could you be so vindictive as to announce Bella's pregnancy? And without her consent! That should have been her choice to announce it, and to who she wanted! It wasn't your decision to make, and it sure as hell didn't need to be gossip fodder!"
Alice helped her brother up saying, "Edward didn't mean to do that!"
"Shut up, Alice!"
Edward glared at his blonde sister and told her, "The reveal was necessary, Rosalie. It was to show that Bella wasn't faithful and committed to me, and she deserved it for daring to break up with me."
"Edward, you didn't!" Esme exclaimed horrified.
"It's okay, Esme!" Alice said reassuringly, even though it wasn't very convincing. "Bella will see sense son, and then she'll get rid of Jacob Black's puppy, and come right back to Edward."
Rosalie shook her head and turned to head back down the stairs. When she reached the bottom, she turned around to look up at them, saying, "You both are delusional. And I highly doubt Bella will want anything to do with either of you ever again in the wake of all this." She then looked directly at Edward. "Especially you, you dick. Personally, I'm glad she dumped your overdramatic ass."
She turned to leave, heading for the garage to get in her red convertible. As she did, she could hear both Carlisle and Esme scolding their favorite son for his petty behavior. She didn't care, though. She had a brunette human she needed to check on.
Bella sat at her computer, searching the online stores and ordering and buying baby books. Anything that had to do with preparing for a newborn baby, child raising tips, parenting dos and don'ts, she was getting. Ever since she had decided to keep the baby growing inside of her the night before, she knew that she had to start preparing, even though it was still so early. She hadn't told anyone that she planned on keeping the baby, but she wanted to be prepared regardless.
She thought about the dream she had also had the night before. The dream felt more so like a vision and wondered if it was just that. If it was, did that mean it was a vision of the future? Did this mean her child would be a little boy? Was it real, or just giving her a glimpse of what the child could be? She supposed in the end it didn't matter, because vision or not, that dream helped her realize what she didn't know she wanted, and she was glad to have finally come to make the decision to keep her baby.
The window suddenly opening and closing startled the brunette, causing her to gasp and quickly turn around in her computer seat. She expected to see either Edward or Alice, but instead found Rosalie seated on her bed, legs crossed as she sat prettily. Bella blinked at her for a moment before greeting, "Rosalie, hi."
"Hello Bella," Rosalie replied easily.
"Um, what are you doing here? How did you get here?" She knew that question was dumb the moment it came out of her mouth, but she was so startled by the blonde vampire's sudden appearance, she couldn't help but ask it.
Rosalie let out a small chuckle at the question before answering, "I drove. I parked in your driveway but decided to come in through your window. Don't worry, no one was around to see me do so. And as for what I'm doing here, I came to check on you."
Bella frowned in slight confusion, prompting the blonde to further speak. "I heard about what that wretched brother of mine did to you. I just wanted to see how you were fairing."
Chocolate brown eyes looked into golden ones for a moment before Bella looked down into her lap. She shrugged slightly before saying, "I'm doing okay, all things considered. I just wished that things with Edward had ended differently. I won't ever forgive him for doing that to me in retaliation for breaking things off."
"As you shouldn't," Rosalie replied. "People like Edward are used to having their way and are or never have been told 'no'. It's a trait made worse should they become a vampire. They may come off as completely mature and humble but is really a spoiled brat at the end of the day. With Edward, he is so used to getting whatever it was that he wanted, even from you, and it doesn't help that Carlisle indulges him. Overall, he's conceited and a textbook narcissist with delusions of grandeur. When anything gets in the way of how he thinks things should go and be, particularly reality, he will lash out. It's his way or the highway, so to speak. So when he realized that you weren't going to listen to him in regards to Black and the baby, and further chose to break up with him, he decided to hurt you instead since he couldn't get his way."
Bella looked at the blonde before looking back down at her lap, wondering how she had completely ignored or overlooked that about Edward. Maybe it was because she was so caught up in his mystery and having someone so different and supernatural interested in her that she didn't pay any attention to the signs. That, and it was her first relationship, and it was just like the fairytales and love stories she always read, the kind that she always wanted as a child. She had no idea what a real, loving relationship was like because her parents' had ended in divorce before she could even begin to understand and know what a real, healthy relationship was. She vaguely remembered Jacob's parents' relationship, and she remembered wishing her own parents could be that way. It was what she had wanted for herself but being with Edward completely dashed those wishes and she ended up completely wrapped up in him and his world. How foolish was she?
Rosalie could see the brunette was thinking, knowing she was taking in all that she had told her. She didn't know if Bella wanted to hear all that, but she needed to so she could understand what her relationship with Edward really was. It was also controlling, even if she didn't know it. He had done it subtly so she wouldn't catch on, if she ever would have noticed. But she was glad things were out in the open now and that Bella knew Edward wasn't as great and charming as he made himself to be. She was just like any other human caught up in his supernatural beauty and charisma.
Deciding to finish up what she had to say, the blonde vampire said, "Anyway, I'm glad that you broke up with him, Bella. You didn't need to be with him anyway, and he shouldn't have pursued a human to be with romantically in general. I'm disappointed that Carlisle and Esme allowed it, all the while knowing it would cause more harm than good. I know I used to blame you, as well as Edward for the mess we would have and have gotten into, but I know it was all mostly Edward dazzling you and getting you swept up in us. I'm sorry for making you feel unwelcome and being such a bitch towards you."
Bella smiled despite herself. "Thanks Rosalie, and it's okay. I see now that you were being cautious and upset that everyone else seemed to disregard the danger you all would be in because of my involvement."
"Thanks Bella." She smiled before it fell from her face. "I feel I should warn you, though. Even though you may have broken up with Edward, he'll never be out of your life. Because of how much time you have invested in him, even going so far as to tell the Volturi that you'd die for him, as well as his obsession with you, he's never going to let you go. But so long as you have Black, the other wolves, and me by your side, we'll keep you safe."
Done with the deep conversation for now, Rosalie decided to change the subject.
"Well, enough of that. So, how have things been concerning the baby? Have you thought more about it and what you want to do?"
Smiling, Bella nodded and answered, "Yes, I have. I've decided I'm going to keep the baby. He's my child and I'm going to raise and love him with everything that I am and have."
"He?"
"Yes, I believe the baby will be a boy."
The look on Rosalie's face had to be the most happy and excited Bella had ever seen the blonde vampire. The brunette couldn't help but laugh when Rosalie let out a squeal before hugging her close to her, all the while being sure not to crush her. Hugging her in return, she showed her the website she was on and what she was currently ordering to be prepared. They soon moved to her bed and continued to discuss the baby and all of Bella's needs for it. There was so much that Rosalie had said that she hadn't even thought about, but Rosalie told her she'd make a list for her.
"And just so you know, I promise that I'll be there for you and help you out with your pregnancy and the baby," Rosalie told her. She then smirked. "And I'm going to do it, whether Wolf Boy likes it or not."
Bella laughed, knowing she was completely serious. It looked like both she and Jacob would be seeing more of Rosalie nowadays, but she was very happy about it. She had at least one Cullen in her corner during this time in her life, and she was happy that it was Rosalie.
