Watching the girl as she was slowly spiraling in her panic and confusion. Remy tried to draw her attention.
- Hello? - he asked gently.
"Crap! My head is thumping so hard I can barely hear anything"
No answer
- Earth to the stranger girl? - the man tried louder giving her a questioning look and taking a step forward.
That got her attention, but a new cause for the concern and continued thumping in ears rendered her silent.
"Why is this weirdo still here? And why is he looking at me like that? Did I give away my mutation somehow? Oh, my gosh! I don't even want to think what professor Xavier will think of me if I blow my cover and on the first day to boot"
- Milady, are you there? - Remy attempted again, this time waving his hand in front of her face. In the midst of her suffering she missed the moment of his approaching.
"Hey! When did he get so close?" - Rogue thought indignantly, pain almost forgotten. "But most importantly am I wearing my gloves now? Well, I think I am. What the hell could he want from me? Is he one of those anti-mutants freaks who always tried to pick a fight with me in BayvilleHigh?"
Rogue's body automatically prepared for an attack, but all she could do was wince in pain - increasing thumping changed her fighting intentions. She looked around still being in a daze from the aftereffects of the violent migraine and asked, unsure.
- What are you trying to say?
- Are you okay, jolie? - Remy asked again patiently, - You look like you're having a really bad time. Rough first day, huh? - the stranger finished with a smirk.
The X-girl decided to remain silent once again and instead chose this moment to give the annoying stranger a proper look. Her scrutiny revealed a mature-looking man, about 21 years old. He was wearing an elegant dark trench coat, which was unbuttoned sporting a simple white shirt, two upper buttons of which were undone revealing a bit of skin in a teasing yet surprisingly decent way. His legs were wrapped in tight black pants and high hiking boots as if he wasn't there to teach, but instead just came from a field trip. He definitely didn't look like a teacher, let alone a student, especially if you consider the lack of a school bag as an indication. But what truly struck her as odd and immediately drew her appraising gaze was a dim shine on his face - a pair of sun glasses. The sky was overcast with clouds and if you believe what they usually say on the news, there was going to be a huge downpour today.
"Who in their right mind would wear sun glasses in this weather, especially indoors?" - wondered Rogue, perplexed.
As if to confirm the weather forecast there was a sudden gust of wind from the nearby window. This made her shift her assessing stare a bit to the side, to his flaming auburn hair which got a bit disheveled because of the wind and was now barely touching his chin. It came as a surprise to her, but somehow Rogue could almost call him stylish (if she could really be a judge at all given how little she knew about fashion despite Kitty's numerous attempts to give her some lessons) She tried to look through his glasses, mystified and curious. But then as if on command was interrupted by another excruciating pain. Rogue quickly shut her eyes and squeezed the temples in a futile way to weaken another extremely unpleasant sensation.
- Milady, I think that you need some help. May Remy escort you to the infirmary? - he insisted.
For several seconds there was no reaction which Gambit almost took as a permission and was about to take a few more steps, but stopped abruptly when she, having adjusted somewhat to the headache, just silently glared at him for a moment and then hissed
- Do I look like some damsel in distress? Go mind your own business! - the X-girl finally managed an answer rudely, irritated with her temporary weakness. She tried to get up, staggering a bit and realised something a bit late, - and who the hell's Remy?
- That would be me, cherie, - the man stated, clearly offended by her tone and continued, - maybe you'll care to introduce yourself as well? - he suddenly asked with an air of condescension and slight annoyance, dropping all politeness.
- Well, I think I already said that, but if you insist, - infuriated, Rogue took a deep breath and continued in a high-pitched girlish tone, sarcastic, - Hi! I'm none-of-your-business, displeasure to meet you!
He gave her a disapproving look as if saying "Oh really?" which was intended to chide her for her clear lack of manners.
His look took down her grumpy mood a notch so as she was slowly turning on her heel, preparing to leave, Rogue said in a lowered voice - Well, thanks for the concern, but I'll be fine. And with that she made her way deep into another seemingly endless hall not bothering saying goodbye.
Gambit didn't appreciate her attitude and despite being already quite fed up with this impolite little missy decided to follow her, seeing as her zombie like walking was visibly getting out of control.
The X-girl went on exploring the never-ending labyrinth of a school, completely unaware of her tail.
"Just how long is it gonna take to find the damn exit? Sure, this is a 5-storey building, and yet it feels like a freaking airport. C'mon there's gotta be at least an evacuation plan somewhere or some arrows for directions, for crying out loud!" - She thought, running out of patience.
Unbeknownst to the X-girl, Remy was quietly following and studying her. She appeared to be rather young, perhaps in between 16-18 years. With her thick layer of mascara he could probably add a few more years, but her behaviour convinced him otherwise. She wasn't tall and now seemed to be hunched still squeezing her head with her hands. Hands! He noticed suddenly. She was wearing thick elbow-high black gloves. And now that he gave her getup a better look he realised that the girl was clad in clothes from head to toe - a green turtleneck reaching right up to her chin, black mid-length pencil-skirt, dark tights and heavy boots.
"Why would such a beaty inconvenience herself with wearing this many layers of warm clothing in summer?" - Gambit wondered, curiosity picked.
- Are you really that cold? - he asked with a hint of doubt, observing her posture. He pulled a deck of cards out of the pocket and started shuffling them not taking his eyes off of the girl.
The girl reluctantly looked over her shoulder in question, but upon discovering the same unwanted presence, looked back and kept on walking, picking up her pace ignoring him.
That didn't seem to deter Gambit in the slightest and he made another attempt.
- Don't you think that gloves like these are a bit old-fashioned and... out of season? - he questioned finishing with a hint of provocation as if he knew something that he shouldn't.
The question made her freeze in her tracks.
"What does this weird dude have against gloves and warm clothes? For all he knows I could just have a poor blood circulation. But wait, what if he suspects that I'm a mutant? No, it's impossible. I made sure not to touch anyone. Were the X-Men actually right about my gloves drawing too much attention?"
Rogue turned on her heel and addressed the unwanted persuer.
- In case you live in some swamp where such things like radio don't exist I'm telling you - there is going to be a downpour today.
With that she was about to go back to her search for the exit, but quickly changed her mind realising something. She didn't hear his footsteps at all! They were walking on the concrete floor, and he, wearing hiking boots, was bound to make at least some noise, yet he didn't. She scrutinized him and noticed that his hands were wrapped in gloves too!
"What a hypocrite!" - Rogue thought.
But then while he was idly juggling cards in the air she saw that his gloves were fingerless.
"Another odd fashion decision?" - she thought, but then brushed away all thoughts and made her way to... Impossible.. She couldn't believe it.. the elevator? A huge white door with two teasingly shining yellow buttons was awaiting her right at the end of the hall. She made a mental note to have a serious talk with a principal later about the overly complicated building layout, that is if she ever gets to find them at all.
Happy about her discovery she was about to finally run to her escape, but got interrupted by an unexpected clap of thunder and a bolt of lightning piercing the sky. The lamps started blinking until they turned off and the elevator buttons were the last to lose their welcoming yellow shine. And as if on cue the heavy rain fell on the building, the sound of drops echoing through the hall which was now dark.
"A power outage. Great, now I really am screwed", - Rogue thought turning to the window, but then took a notice of something out of the corner of her eye.
A red glow coming from the direction of her unwanted company
