The moon hung high in the night sky, casting a pale glow over the town of Hulbury. A gentle breeze stirred the sleepy streets as Jun sat cross-legged on the hotel bed, an aura of determination swirling around him. Next to him, Gardevoir, his loyal protector turned mentor, floated with an elegance that belied her palpable curiosity. She sensed Jun's struggles as he attempted to control the energy that flowed through him.

'Just breathe, Jun,' Gardevoir whispered, her voice resonating with serenity. 'Feel your connection with Echo, and try to let that guide you.'

Jun closed his eyes, focusing on the bond he shared with his starter, Echo. He visualized the tiniest portion of energy moving in and out, maybe a stream of vibrant green light, reaching out like tender shoots in spring. He felt the warmth of Echo's presence enveloping him, the intimacy of their connection grounding him amidst his frustrations. The stagnant energy suddenly buckled as if the floodgates of a dam had been opened and began to rush into their bond as it did during Echo's Evolution, Gardevoir hovered nearby as he quickly imagined turning off a sink, and the energy abruptly stilled once again.

Catching his breath, Jun turned to Echo, "How does it make you feel?"

'Like using the move Recover, but 3-4 times stronger,' Echo thought for a moment before replying.

With a frown, Jun focused back on the well of energy within himself. He tried once again to summon the energy within himself, but only a trace, envisioning it as a leak in a bucket. Yet, all he managed was a minute shift in his core before the energy stilled once again. Resisting the thought that maybe ranking up his [Bug Affinity I] would solve all his problems, Jun took a deep breath and sighed.

Gardevoir nudged him gently, her eyes filled with understanding. 'It takes time and practice, Jun. You're making progress, even if it doesn't feel like it.'

Sighing, Jun opened his eyes, a mix of determination and exhaustion painting his features. "I'm not even completely sure what this energy is," he admitted. "I just want to make sure I don't hurt myself or Echo again."

Gardevoir smiled, her encouragement flowing like a soothing tide. 'Regardless of what the energy is, learning to control it is never a bad idea. There is still so much out there that we don't know; the first human psychics must have felt the same way as you do now, but they found a way to control their power, just as I have the confidence that you will be able to control your power. The same thing happened for Aria and myself when we first tried to mega evolve. It took us many weeks of practice before we even came close to triggering the metamorphosis, and even longer before I could remain in that state for any significant amount of time. Don't forget that you are learning not just for yourself but also for Echo.'

Her words made Jun pause his attempts as he felt some of the weight on his shoulders lighten. He plopped backwards onto the hotel bed and rolled over to look at Gardevoir. Toxel nestled contentedly in Gardevoir's arms, letting out the occasional little snores. The cute little creature exuded an aura of innocence and slothfulness, and Jun felt a stirring sense of envy at her lack of responsibility.

As they settled into an early night's sleep, Jun's thoughts wandered, filled with hopes and dreams that tomorrow would bring.

Sunlight spilled through the window, brushing against Jun's face like a gentle wake-up call. The excitement of a new day filled the air as he quickly dressed and joined Gardevoir and Toxel downstairs along with Echo.

The sun rose behind the jagged peaks of Galar, casting a warm gold hue over the docks of Hulbury. The quartet made their way through the bustling streets of Hulbury, where vendors were setting up their stalls and Pokémon trainers were already preparing for battles.

Their destination was the docks, a focal point for trainers and researchers alike. It was here that Jun was to await Professor Aria's arrival.

As they approached the bustling scene of the harbor, the salty breeze tousled Jun's hair. Fishermen were preparing their boats for the day, and the sound of waves crashing rhythmically against the docks filled the air.

Beside him, Professor Aria's trusted partner, Gardevoir, was a whirlwind of energy. Usually dignified and composed, she practically bounced on her feet, cradling the small, adorable Toxel in her arms. The little Pokémon's wide, curious eyes darted from Jun to Gardevoir and back again, clearly fascinated by the sudden burst of excitement.

Jun chuckled, glancing at Gardevoir. "Looks like someone can't contain her excitement."

With a graceful flourish, Gardevoir turned her attention back to the water, an echo of exhilaration emanating from her. The psychic emissions emanating from the pokemon was palpable.

Jun had come to depend on her intuition and calm during this transformative time in his life, and she had settled well into her role as his protector and mentor. Jun had to admit to himself that he would miss her presence by his side.

"When do you think Professor Aria will arrive?" Jun pondered aloud, scanning the horizon for signs of a ship.

'Just over there, I can sense him.' Gardevoir pointed toward a vessel approaching the dock, its sails catching the morning sun. Jun squinted, Gardevoir's excitement infecting him as he watched it glided closer.

Soon enough, the ship docked, and a tall lanky silhouette appeared at the top of the gangplank, slowly becoming more defined. As he came closer, his short dark brown hair was blown into a mess by the sea breeze, the lab coat fluttered and revealed a belt of PokeBalls with one empty slot, a pair of wide framed glasses was perched on his nose, his weary expression softening when he spotted Jun and Gardevoir.

"Jun! And my dear Gardevoir," Professor Aria called, the warmth in his voice wrapping around them like a warm blanket. He approached them with an eager stride, his eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. "You're right on time!"

"Professor, it's great to see you again!" Jun exclaimed, relief washing over him. "Gardevoir was practically bouncing off the docks!"

As if in response to Jun's comment, Gardevoir propelled herself through the air, causing the professor to laugh as he caught her, spinning around to bleed off the momentum.

They spent a few moments staring into each other's eyes as they conversed via telepathy. A little embarrassed to be watching this intimate display, Jun turned and grabbed the startled Toxel, having been left hovering in the air through Gardevoir's psychic prowess.

Toxel wriggled in Jun's grasp, curiosity overflowing about the man who seemed to radiate kindness and knowledge. Professor Aria released Gardevoir and bent down slightly to Toxel's eye level, offering a gentle smile.

"Hello, Toxel! I've heard a lot about you."

The Pokémon tilted its head, as if trying to decipher the comforting vibe emanating from the professor. In its innocent curiosity, it let out a few chirps that only made Professor Aria chuckle.

As the professor stood, he looked at the hovering Orbeetle by Jun's shoulder, "You must be Jun's partner, Echo. It's a pleasure to finally see you in person. I'm surprised that you've reached your final evolution, you must have worked hard these past few weeks " he reached out and shook the small Pokemon's hand in a show of respect.

Echo blushed but tried to remain stoic as he mumbled unintelligibly before fleeing into his pokeball in embarassment.

The Professor chuckled and turned to Jun, gesturing towards two figures who were disembarking behind him. "Allow me to introduce my assistants, Harper and Lyra."

Harper stepped forward, carrying two large metallic suitcases, a relaxed demeanor evident in his easy smile. He had a sturdy build, clearly accustomed to hard work, with tousled hair peeking from beneath a cap. "Nice to meet you, Jun! I've heard a lot about you from the professor," he said with a friendly nod.

"Nice to meet you, Harper!" Jun replied, the warmth of camaraderie enveloping him.

"And this is Lyra!" Professor Aria announced, a slight hint of exasperation in his voice, as the young woman nearly tripped over her own feet, stumbling forward with a hearty laugh. She had a light, breezy frame that almost teetered with her clumsy movements.

"Oops! Sorry about that!" Lyra exclaimed, brushing off her clothes. "Just got a bit carried away. So excited to finally be in Galar! I can't wait to start working with the pokemon here, there's so much new pokemon I've never met before!"

"Great to meet you too, Lyra," Jun said, chuckling at her exuberance. He could sense the energy in Lyra, a spark that complemented the more grounded Harper.

Once the introductions were complete, the group gathered their belongings and set off towards the train station, with Jun as their impromptu tour guide. Their final destination for the day was Wedgehurst, Jun having rented a small townhouse near the Pokemon Research Lab, as their base of operations.

As they made their way toward Wedgehurst, Jun filled Professor Aria and his assistants in on their recent adventures. They had traveled across the Wild Area, battling wild pokemon and tagging Toxel, all while Lyra was busy tickling and making baby noises at Toxel, who was now half dozing off once the novelty of meeting new people had worn off.

As they walked out of Wedgehurst Station and towards their accommodations, Jun felt an exhilarating wave of anticipation rushing through him. His mentor had finally arrived and he couldn't wait to start learning how everything worked, and with the ongoing research on Toxel already off to a decent start, he had much to look forward to.
