Song: Light and Shadows - Corpse Party Blood Drive Music Extended
The celebrations have just begun, as the crowds of humans, along with floating and walking fairies on the ground alike, cheered with excitement, anticipation, and wonder.
Most of the Cure teams, the ones that were capable of coming to the festivities, had now gathered as well. And among them were the Cures who shared the same dream that relates with the king of a faraway land and their hidden protector, of a mysterious being that embodied love that also happened to be the mother of one of their own, of a PreCure they never even heard of who had passed away.
They made excuses to their fellow Cure members of their respective teams first before they would all head towards a particular spot amongst the crowds, with their fairies following close behind. They did not in fact noticed that a tall foreigner, Steve Rogers, was watching them with a intrigued frown and noticed their movements. With skill, he would quietly listen his ear as they talked about something that would catch his full attention.
"...Okay so," Riko Izayoi would look at her fellow Cures, with a troubled look on all of their faces. "We're all gathered here today, and... so, all of us agreed that we had the same dream last night?"
"Hmm," They all nodded.
"So... all of that really happened," Laura made a concerned frown, crossing her arms. "And, Hikari-senpai's okaa-san showed us a few things there, like..."
"George Kurai," Hikari Kujou said, with a thoughtful look. "But not the George Kurai that we knew, but someone else with that name."
"Popo?" The fairy on her shoulder, Pollun (*1), sported a confused look. "I don't know what's actually going on here, popo. Why did we leave Nagisa and Honoka behind, popo? Who is this "mother" that you are talking about, popo?"
"Umm, sorry about that, Pollun," Hikari spoke with a contrite look. "But some of the Cures and I have gathered here because of a common dream we shared."
"A dream?" EnEn (*2), one of the fairies on Ayumi Sakagami's shoulder, would ask. "What kind of dream?
Then, the Cures would try to explain everything that had happened in the dream.
All the while, there were a few Cures that were recalling bits and pieces of memories that they never thought they had. Often times, contradictory to how they actually remember things.
For Haruka Haruno, she would be thinking of it...
...It was around the time when she was much younger than she was now. Around those few moments, in-between, from around the time she had an encouragement boost from a certain prince (*3) that came to her when she felt down, and up until she came to Noble Academy (*4), the boarding school she wanted to attend. In those times, she met George. There were many to pick, but... there was one at least that laid a deep impression on her.
They were both sitting on a bench. At a park.
"...A princess?" He would ask, not with judgmental eyes, but with an inquiring one, though careful and considerate.
The eyes he had were nothing like most of those who had heard of her dream for the first time. To become a prince. Barring Prince Kanata, there was almost no one she would tell regarding her dream, in fear of ridicule. George was the second person who did not judge her for that dream.
"...Obaa-chan once said this," She'd recognize the catchphrase. It was often something he'd employed if he wanted to convey a more deeper meaning, a lesson that he had learned, which had been imparted to him. "The wishes of children are the future reality. So... I don't think your dream is stupid nor silly, far from it. There were people in history that had even stranger dreams than becoming a princess, and yet, somehow, against all odds, they succeeded. Though, like all dreams, they have challenges. You would oftentimes stumble, sometimes you'd fall, but..." He'd look at her, as if he spoke from experience. "...at the same time, one can still get back up. I believe that to be your future as well."
Did George knew? Did he knew then that he had just ended up prophesying about what she'd become in the future? Haruka couldn't really fully tell. Her meetings with him tend to be inconsistent, at least from a time traveller's point of view.
For Riko Izayoi, she would be thinking of it...
...Around the time when she was much younger, as a child, always the studywart, burying herself in books of magic. She had always admired her older sister (*5), or to be more accurately, she wanted to be like her. She loved her sister, but circumstances came about that, at some point, they slowly drifted apart. She and her sister eventually mended that issue, but this was not that time, as it was still far away.
In those moments in-between, and thus, before eventually meeting her best friend and fellow PreCure, Mirai Asahina (*6), that was when she met George. There were many she could tell, but there was one memory that she could remember.
It was during one of those times when George was randomly getting sent back and forth through time. Riko was ten years old at the time.
"Honestly," She would say with a tone of exasperation, looking at the young ten year old looking George, wearing that familiar kingly crimson robe and golden tiara. "Of all the times you came..." Yet there was a hint of happiness in her voice, one that George picked up on.
"...Hmm?" George looked up from the book he was reading. The title of the book was "Strange Tales: First Little Steps of the Mystic Arts and Histories of the Unknown - By Doctor Strange.". "...Is there a problem, Riko?"
Riko supposed that, in the fondest sense of the word, George could classify as Riko's imaginary friend. Though, George was very much real. Whenever they would bump into each other, those were the happiest moments in her life. The first time she met him was around the time when she was, well, being chased by something stranger.
They had a humanoid shape, but with the back looking like snails, which invoked a pupa looking figure. They were green in color, and their faces as well as their eyes were covered by hands that seem to not move. Riko didn't know at the time, but they were called Worms (*7), an alien species that came from another world, and ones that were supposed to be fiction. That was when the mysterious kingly savior arrived, and swipe them all down.
At present, a part of her was drawn to the book that the boy was reading. She had a copy of it too. It seems that, as one way to pass the time, due to his condition, George had opted to bring a few books along, just in case he encounters yet another person. She didn't understood then, but George had been encountering various young girls and women, just like herself, who would eventually become PreCure.
Anticipating his visits with her, he opted to bring books along, because she knew her love for books, especially those relating to the subject of magic.
Riko shook her head. "No, it's fine," She said before looking back at the page that spoke of something called the Hyborian Age, and spoke of a tale relating to someone named Conan the Barbarian (*8). "Umm... actually," She would say, looking back at him, who paid attention to the former. "Can I ask you something?"
"...Depends on the question," George sported a serious look. "My onee-chan told me that I'm not supposed to talk about your future after all."
Right, his older sister. She thought. That was actually the main reason behind her question. "Actually, it's about, you know, how you relate with your sister and all."
"Oh," George looked a little relieved. "So, what about it?"
"...Have you ever, I don't know, had that nagging feeling that... that at some point, no matter what you do... or try to do anyway, your older sister just... happened to be better at you in some things?"
George was a little thoughtful of the question, pondering a bit before saying. "...I would say that, well, I wouldn't really call it a nagging feeling personally, but... call it a sixth-sense, yes, that's the term I'd used. And I can see that at times, Guinevere-neechan is better at me in some things. She's more organized than me, and is probably much more intelligent."
"And... does that bother you?" Riko asked, inquiring.
George immediately answered. "No, it doesn't."
"...Why?" Riko asked.
"Because..." George smiled a little. "...What's the point?"
"Eh?" Riko looked confused.
"...There's something that my Uncle Mickey used to tell me whenever he visits me. He says, "It's alright to try to imitate others, but what is most important of all, is how you yourself would blaze a trail and walk at your own pace." or so he says. I think that's fitting in my case, though I don't know about the rest. My onee-chan is good at what she does in some ways more than me for various reasons. She's been trained to handle those things all her life, and she had been an orphan at a very young age, having lost both of her parents. So I can at least take pride on the fact that I have a very good teacher and example in my onee-chan. ...I."
George paused, before he continued. "...I still have much to learn, as King of Camelotgard. Considering the vast territorial dimensions that are under its scope, I have a responsibility that... others don't. In one sense, I envy the common folk and the knighthood. They have lesser concerns, and only focused on their families, on their friends, and what they desire to achieve in life. But that envy, supersedes the resolve that I have."
"Resolve?" Riko asked.
"To try to be better," George spoke solemnly. "I don't say, "To be better.", but "To try to be better." because I'm not a perfect person. I am well and fully aware of my inadequacies. And you know what... It's actually more comforting in that sense, because what is the point of being perfect at everything? Without some flaw, we'd be stuck in either complacency at best or stagnancy at worse. You can have all of the knowledge of the world around you, and you still wouldn't fully know everything. And even if, by some miracle, you somehow attained all-knowledge, what would you do with it? Many people who were asked that question state their reasons. Noble causes. Political achievements. Public recognition. Many, many words, and yet... again, what would be the point of all that in the end, when... you'd practically take some things for granted at times."
...Those words. When Riko got those memories back, it stuck to her like a broken record, because... she did take some things for granted. Her sister being one of them. Riko was always the overachiever, the ambitious one in the family, she wanted to be like her sister in every way... but after a talk down a peg by her best friend, Mirai, she finally realizes that... she didn't need to be. She can be herself. Riko Izayoi. And... she learned to see things from other's perspective.
Both Haruka and Riko smiled softly at those memories. That only made them frown mentally. Why did they forget all of these memories, and the bonds they had for the closest thing they actually had to a childhood friend who understood their grievances and plights.
"Ah, everyone?!"
Both of them, along with the other Cures and their fairies, looked at the arriving, dashing Hana Nono.
"Hana-chan," Riko said as she sees Hana stopping and taking a little breather. She looked concerned as she asked. "Did you ran all the way here?"
"Eh...Ehehehe," Hana made an exasperated laugh. "I... I guess... So umm, do you all umm... do you all know something about that dream that we have?"
"Hmm," Haruno nodded. "If you mean the, well, you know... about George."
Hana nodded. "Hmm. So it did actually happened then." She looked around and noticed that some were missing. "Nodoka-chan and Mashiro-chan aren't here yet?"
"From what I could tell from my phone," Madoka Kaguya said, bringing out her phone. "It seems that Nodoka-chan and her team are almost there. They've already just exited the train station and are heading over here now. Mashiro-chan and the others are still on the highway, so they'd probably be a little more late."
"Hana-senpai! Wait up!"
They all looked to the left to see the rest of the team, minus a fairy hamster (*9) and a young woman (*10) from the future. The one who spoke was Emiru Aisaki, who along with the rest stopped and take a breather, just like Hana.
"...Looks like...we made it just in time," Saaya Yakushiji would say with and exasperated smile.
"...So," Homare Kagayaki looked at the few Cures present. "What are you all talking about just now?"
"Oh? Umm," Riko looks hesitantly at her fellow Cures, who shared her sentiments.
How can they explain this exactly? The fact that all of them knew a version of George Kurai that is a completely different person from the one they actually knew, and in the case of Cures like Riko and Haruna and a few who preceded Hana and her team, they knew all too well. Considering that George, the George who led the Criasu Corp, was a personal foe of the HUGtto! PreCure team, they really need to tread this topic lightly.
"Excuse me, ladies."
"Eh?" Riko muttered in surprise.
A sudden voice interrupted them. It came from... a very tall, handsome man with an imposing build, wearing regular civilian attire and jacket. His eyes were blue, and were gentle and kind. He also had blond hair.
"...By any chance," He would look around, before whispering a little so that only they could here. "Are you girls the PreCure?"
"Eh?!" They looked a little surprised. How did he know they were PreCure?
"Who's asking?" Laura asked, looking at him suspiciously.
"Forgive me for eavesdropping, but I just heard talk about a familiar friend of mine, George Kurai," He answered, grabbing the Cures' attention.
"Eh?! George Kurai?!" Saaya exclaims in surprise.
"Okay, who are you exactly?" Homare asked, looking at him with wariness.
"My name's Steve Rogers," He introduced himself. "Though, before I explain myself, I think it's best if we talked at somewhere else, away from prying ears."
The Cures all looked at each other. They never really expected to run into someone who knew about George, though they were also a little wary, considering this stranger essentially came out of nowhere and was eavesdropping on their conversation.
"...Alright," Hikari muttered, making the Cures look at him. "Would the restaurant of our fellow Cures prove more than adequate?"
"Of course," Steve nodded, in understanding.
"Wait, wait, wait," Laura shakes her hands, making a troubled face. "Are we just going to trust this guy without questioning anything about him further? Like, why does he even know about George? How do we even know he isn't somebody that is just using that as a pretext to get close to us?"
"He won't," Hikari shook her head. "I can't place my finger on it, but I do not sense anything remotely evil on him, far from the opposite in fact. He seems... brighter, if I were to explain things."
The Cures were confused a little by that response, but nevertheless, they decided to take Hikari's word for it, considering she is the human incarnation of the Queen of Light. Perhaps she could sense something most of the others don't.
"Alright, so, if we're going to actually discussed this, I think we should bring our fellow team members with us," Riko explained. "It would make things more easier if more of us know of the situation."
"Not to mention, it would also give more ground for us to cover, compare our experiences and memories together," Ayumi said.
"Hmm, that's as good a start as any," Hana nodded in agreement.
In the brim of festivities, as fairies and humans passed by, there was one peculiar individual whose back was leaning towards the pole of a stand nearby. His name was Kiriya Irizawa (*11). He had casual grey and dark blue clothes and a hood. Quietly, he observed, and among the Cures, he spotted... a very familiar face, within a PreCure team known as the Futari wa PreCure.
"...Please," Hikari Kujou would explain to her comrades, Nagisa Misumi (*12) and Honoka Yukishiro (*13), as well as the fairies who were with them.
Quietly, he observed, as he pondered the conversation he eavesdropped.
...It seems that the PreCure are starting to remember his Majesty. He thought, feeling curious and concerned about that. It must be quite significant enough if Mistress Love herself wants this to occur.
For one to truthfully understand the situation of Kiriya, one would have to go back to the very beginning, if only briefly. For he was an enemy of the PreCure, from the very moment of his existence. He, and those who were his allies once upon a time, one of whom was his sister, they all served under something called the Evil King (*14), an entity that wanted to gain eternal life, staving off death, while reveling in the destruction of the universe behind him.
One could ask, how could one even genuinely serve such a being?
That was something Kiriya never actually bothered to question. All he cared about was loyalty, and of course, the love he had for his sister, who was also loyal to that cause.
In fact, his servitude was not something he actually contemplated... until he met Honoka Yukishiro.
At first, he felt strange feelings that he could not explain. These feelings that seem contradictory and had no actual place in his life. Over time however, those feelings seem to be taking hold on him. And... it all went into a head, the moment his sister died. That was when he started to question everything. Are the PreCure his enemy... or his friends? He cannot decide which is which. He could recall... the broken hearted face of Honoka, who clearly didn't want to fight him, who wanted to reach out to him, a friend... or something else, something more.
He couldn't tell then. At least... right up until the very moment when he stands and sees Nagisa and Honoka, both laying on the ground, as Nagisa would help Honoka up. That final nail on the coffin was when Nagisa asked, was this really actually what he wanted?
...No.
It wasn't what he truthfully wanted.
He never wanted to hurt Honoka.
And thus, he gave up, and let the PreCure win.
For whatever reason...
"...Kiriya-kun."
The mysterious Mistress Love came for him, whose gaze was nothing but compassion as it befits her name, and proposed something of an offer. She wanted Kiriya to watch out for the PreCure, and all of the successors who would come after him. And he won't be alone in this endeavor. The catch is, he would have to be reborn, as a human in the Garden of Rainbows, which is another name for Earth.
He took the offer. Since then, he has been slowly learning what it actually meant to be human, to live under a loving family. He had a human father and a human mother, both of whom Kiriya had a sense of debt and gratitude. It's why... even now, he intends to keep silent watch over this world.
Now, he was a servant and a friend of the sacred kings of Camelotgard, of High King George Artorius, and of King Tatsuya Lactantius.
"...You seem quite troubled, Kiriya."
"?!" Kiriya looked to his left and sees a familiar face behind the hood of her jacket, who looked a little worried for him. "My Lady Lancelot," He muttered softly, putting his hand to his chest out of respect. He'd bow with one knee to the ground, but it would probably not be the best idea, as it could draw unnecessary attention. "What brings you here?"
Lucia von Lac would place a right index finger under her smile, before she puts it down and spoke softly. "My husband told me about the event last night. I figured that keeping a look out from afar would be more than ideal. Alas, the others of the Round Table cannot attend, as they have prior concerns back in the Twilight Realms, so ultimately left me, with an unoccupied hands."
She would look towards the direction where the PreCure teams gathered together, after their fellow Cures pulled them together.
"...Hmm," She sported a concerned look. "You've heard of their conversation, yes?"
"Yes, my lady," Kiriya nodded. "It seems that Mistress Love had started to gather some of the PreCure and told them about the High King. What that purpose is, is unclear to me."
"If it's Mistress Love that showed herself to the PreCure, then it is for the best that it is for a very good reason," Lucia would state.
"...Would this perhaps relate with the war?" Kiriya asked. "Or what had happened with ZFs?"
"Perhaps all of the above, and something more," Lucia said, as she eyed at a certain captain that was with the PreCure. "And we are not the only ones who seem to be aware of this either. I've heard at least that the troopers are hiding amongst the crowd, acting as security, in case HYDRA were to say, strike when everyone least expects it. Not to mention, Takumi-kun is present."
Kiriya's face turn grim. "...With respect to that, my lady, I'm admittedly quite worried."
"And I would not blame you," Lucia agreed with the young man's sentiments. "That's another of the reasons why I'm here... just in case things were to go south with him..."
After all, Lucia could never forget The Winter Cape. She fought him, many times. You could say, The Winter Cape was an archenemy of hers.
The Cures in the know, having been dragging most of the other Cures from their respective teams and fairies with them, all eventually came inside the larger than life restaurant filled with dozens of crowds of humans and fairies, just as the festivities were taking place.
Ever since the Cures have become more known as public superheroines, fairies from various dimensions have become a more frequent sight to see in the world, going back and forth as they visit for various reasons. Over time, humanity had gradually became more used to the presence of these fairies. Not to say there weren't any problems, but for the most part, things were working a little smoother between humans and fairies relations.
"...Hmm?" Yukari Kotozume, along with Amane Kasai, who were serving the dishes, looked at the arriving Cures, along with someone they don't recognize.
"Ah! Everyone, welcome!" Ichika Usami, with good cheer as she carried her plate of deserts, looked at the new arrivals with a smile. "I'm glad that you could make it! Hmm?" She instantly noticed the slight gloomy and serious atmosphere. "...Wait, what's happened?"
"Kome?" Kome-Kome (*15) would ask, floating in the air, near Ichika.
"Me personally?" Nagisa would shrug her shoulders. "I'm not really sure. Me and Honoka were just dragged here by Hikari, saying something about an important meeting."
And from another side of the restaurant, there was Yui Nagomi (*16). "I wonder what's wrong?" She muttered softly, making a frown. She looks towards Takumi Shinada.
...But.
"Huh?"
She looked concerned, because she sees a little bit of Takumi's expression darkening a little. She looked back to see the tall man amongst the crowd of her fellow PreCure, who looked at him with recognized eyes.
"...Yui," Takumi muttered, as he moved towards her, offering her his plates. "Do you mind if you serve these towards table 34?" He said.
"Eh? Uh-hmm," Yui nodded slowly as she got the plates. She would see Takumi walk towards the crowd of Cures, with a serious expression on his face.
Takumi, what's wrong... Yui thought as she felt something off. In actuality, she had noticed something off about Takumi ever since... last year ago. She didn't quite put her finger to it. Takumi, whenever he smiles, has this... shall we say, "off" expression on his face. Like, the smile and happiness wasn't reaching his face, even when they were making meals together, for recipes, or even when they spend time together as friends. She did tried to pry more than a few times, but Takumi would wave it off and reassure her that everything's fine.
A part of her never truthfully believed that.
Now, that problem seems to resurface, but it becomes more clear to her.
She had to know. She would secretly tail Takumi, making sure to act the part of a waitress, as she eavesdrops on the conversation.
"...Been a while since we last met, Captain," Takumi would say to the tall man, with a respectful tone.
"Same here, Takumi-kun," Steve replied with grace and empathy.
The Cures nearby would all look at them both with curiosity and concern.
"Wait, Takumi-kun? Do you know him?" Saaya asked.
"...Yeah," Takumi nodded, putting his hands to his pockets as he took a deep breath. "We've... umm, been through together, way and back. And..." He looks at some of the Cures with a serious look. "I'm guessing that some of you are in the know regarding George." Their grim and understanding look confirmed his statement.
"George?" Mirai Asahina looked confused, as she looked at Riko, who had a conflicted expression.
"Okay, just what exactly is actually going on here?" Kirara Amanogawa (*17) would ask, looking at Haruka, who had a hesitant expression.
"Umm, Ichika-san," Yukari said, as she along with Amane would draw near towards her. "I think its best if we lead them towards the private room that we've saved for the PreCures especially."
"Ah, that's right," Ichika nodded, now recalling an important tidbit. "I recalled that Kaoruko-sensei wanted me to save a room for some reason. Would that mean..." She looks at the Cures present.
"Ehh," Amane nodded. "And me and Yukari-senpai, as well as Nodoka-senpai and Mashiro-san."
Ichika was admittedly rather curious about that. She would have like to find out more, but she has customers to serve.
"Alright, sure," She nodded seriously, as she felt that whatever this was is something that is probably left best behind close doors.
She would lead them upwards on the staircase, and eventually find themselves in a room reserved for the PreCure. Eventually, they would spot the Heartcatch PreCure! team who were waiting for them.
"...Oh, everyone?!" Tsubomi Hanasaki spoke with wide eyes, as she and the rest of the Heartcatch PreCure! team would notice the crowd of PreCure teams.
"Hi, Tsubomi-senpai, everyone," Hana smiled, before she looks at a serious, and understanding Kaoruko Hanasaki, who seem to be expecting her and the rest of the teams.
The old Cure would smile sadly, as she said. "Hana-chan, everyone, I suppose you all need to sit down and wait for the others to arrive," Then she looked and recognize the tall blond man in front of them. "And it's very good to see you here, Captain Rogers."
"It's good to see you too, ma'am," Steve spoke respectfully. The Cures would look at him, along with Kaoruko, back and forth, listening in on the conversation.
"I'd assume that you're here for George, I take it," Kaoruko asked.
"Hmm," Steve nodded. "Fury told me about the event, among other things, and I couldn't help but come. Call it gut instincts if you will."
"Hmm," Kaoruko nodded, closing her eyes a bit. "I'm just happy nonetheless that you're here, Captain, especially in light of these girls' current dilemma, something that I'd rather explain with all of you, including your team and Yui-chan's team, Ichika-san," She said, looking at Ichika.
"But," Ichika looked concerned. "Who would be serving the customers and cooking the meals?"
"Oh, I've called in a few fairy favors for that one," Kaoruko smiled softly. "They'd be arriving shortly."
"...You wanted to see us, Cure Flower."
The Cures would all look at the three floating fairies, who had a similar appearance to the fairies of the Heartcatch PreCure! team, but had a grey-looking appearance and color, including grey-colored heart shaped ears.
"Ah!" Erika Kurumi recognized the fairies, especially the one on the center. "It's Chief Citreon and the fairies from F.L.E.D.."
The PreCure are more than aware of the fairy on the center. He was Chief Citreon, he and the other two fairies are part of what is called the Fairy Law Enforcement Division (F.L.E.D.), tasked with monitoring the various fairy races in the universe.
"It is good to see you all again, PreCure," Chief Citreon nodded. "Cure Flower had suggested a personal favor where we can help with the restaurant's meals and etiquette."
FLED Fairy Officers are quite known for their professional cooking and etiquette skills. One could say, their training regiment consisted of learning various skills that could be useful when on the field, especially on the lines of undercover work.
Citreon looks at Ichika. "Now, Cure Whip, if you could generally explain of the details that are required, me and my men would be more than happy to assist and provide."
In response, two of the fairies behind Citreon, would don cooking uniforms, with various utensils seen within their belts.
"Eh...Ehmm, alright," Ichika nodded.
