Petalburg VIII
The farmer, a stocky man with a sun-worn hat and a warm smile, approached from the barn, waving as he came closer. His Doduo trailed behind him, squawking nervously and casting wary glances at Han and Atlas, who were still locked in their stick-duel showdown.
"Well, I'll be! That was some display!" the farmer said, his voice carrying a thick Hoennian drawl. "You got them pesky birds outta here faster than my Doduo can bolt for supper."
"Glad we could help," I replied, brushing a bit of dust off my shoulder. "Your farm should be safe now. If they try to come back, I'm sure they'll think twice."
Han stopped spinning his stick at the mention of his success, flashing a toothy grin at the farmer and puffing out his chest. "Pawmo!"
Atlas, not about to be overshadowed, dropped his stick and mimicked Han's pose, tail wagging furiously. "Stufful!"
The farmer chuckled heartily. "Those two sure got some personality on 'em. I reckon they'd give ol' Norman's Slaking a run for its money someday."
"Here's hoping," I said with a grin, ruffling both Han and Atlas's heads as they basked in the praise. "We're aiming high."
The farmer handed me a small pouch. "Here's your reward. Can't thank you enough for helpin' me out. Them birds were wreakin' havoc on the fields—eatin' crops, scarin' Doduo. Now I can get back to runnin' things proper."
I took the pouch and nodded in gratitude. "Thanks, sir. Glad we could make a difference."
The farmer tipped his hat. "Y'all are welcome back any time. My wife makes a mean MooMoo Milk pie if you're ever hankerin' for somethin' sweet."
Han perked up at the mention of food, his ears twitching. Atlas followed suit, his head tilting as if he'd already started imagining the taste.
I laughed. "We might just take you up on that."
With the job done, we began our trek back toward Petalburg. The sun was beginning to set, casting a golden glow across the countryside. Han darted ahead occasionally, zipping through patches of tall grass while Atlas trotted beside me, his tail wagging in time with his steps.
"You did great today, Atlas," I said, glancing down at him. "That Mega Punch of yours? Solid. But we've got work to do if we're gonna get you to Han's level."
Atlas looked up at me, his wide eyes shining with determination. "Stufful!" he barked, nodding vigorously.
Han slowed down just enough to trot beside us, giving Atlas a playful nudge. "Pawmo!" he said, gesturing to his stick again, clearly suggesting another round of their impromptu duel.
Atlas huffed, narrowing his eyes before snatching a nearby branch that was—of course—slightly larger than Han's. He wagged his tail smugly, sparks flying between them once again.
"Guys, come on," I said, exasperated but amused. "You can settle this later. Let's get back to the Center first."
Han rolled his eyes, tucking his stick under his arm as if begrudgingly agreeing. Atlas followed suit, though he kept his gaze locked on Han as if to say, This isn't over.
As we approached the city limits, I couldn't help but feel a growing sense of pride. The team was really starting to come together. With Han's speed and skill, Bodhi's versatility, and Atlas's raw strength, we had a solid foundation.
But there was still so much more to learn, so many challenges to face. And as the horizon bathed Petalburg in soft shades of orange and pink, I couldn't help but feel that this was just the beginning.
"Alright, guys," I said, breaking the peaceful silence. "Tomorrow, we train. Hard. Norman's gym isn't going to be a cakewalk, and we've got to be ready."
Han clenched his paws, sparks dancing faintly around him. "Pawmo!"
Atlas mimicked him, slamming his branch into the ground like a hammer and barking in agreement. "Stufful!"
I chuckled. "Good to see you two are already on the same page."
As we neared the Pokémon Center, the lights flickering on in the evening glow, I couldn't help but smile.
"Let's make tomorrow count."
'
'
The next morning came faster than expected. I woke up to the familiar weight of Han sprawled across my chest, snoring softly, his tail flicking every so often as if dreaming of another sparring match. Atlas, on the other hand, had claimed the foot of the bed, his oversized tail draped over the edge. Bodhi was already stirring in his spot by the window. He gave a slow stretch, shaking out his stubby legs before looking up at me with a peaceful "Shroomish."
"You ready, buddy?" I asked.
Bodhi simply nodded, his expression unreadable but steady as always. Even after a full day of rest, he seemed to be carrying an air of quiet determination.
"Alright, you two," I muttered, gently nudging Han off me. "Time to get moving. Big day ahead."
"Pawmo…" Han groaned, rolling onto his back and refusing to budge.
"Stuff!" Atlas barked sharply, jumping to his feet. He glared at Han and prodded him with his snout, clearly ready to start the day.
"Thanks, Atlas," I said with a grin as Han begrudgingly sat up, rubbing his eyes and yawning dramatically.
After a hearty breakfast at the Pokémon Center—Han scarfed down his food so quickly I was surprised he didn't choke—we made our way to a secluded training area just outside the Center. The spot was perfect, nestled in a clearing surrounded by tall trees with a small stream trickling through the center.
The air was crisp and fresh, carrying the scent of wildflowers and earth. It was the kind of setting that made you want to push yourself just a little harder, knowing you were surrounded by nature's quiet encouragement.
"Alright, team," I said, clapping my hands to gather their attention. "Norman's third badge level challenge isn't going to be a walk in the park. His Pokémon are known for their bulk and stamina, so we need to focus on endurance, precision, and synergy."
Han punched the air enthusiastically, sparks crackling faintly around him. "Pawmo!" His expression screamed Bring it on!
Atlas, not one to be outdone, puffed out his chest and stomped a paw on the ground. "Stufful!" he barked, casting a competitive glance at Han.
Bodhi, ever composed, tilted his head slightly as if to say, Let's get to it.
"Good energy, guys," I said, grinning. "Let's put it to work."
We started with basic warm-ups, focusing on refining each Pokémon's individual strengths.
"Han, let's see Quick Attack into Thunderpunch," I called. "Add Swift for coverage at the end!"
Han wasted no time, zipping forward in a blur. His paw lit up with crackling energy as he delivered a precise Thunderpunch to a nearby boulder, sending shards flying. Without missing a beat, he spun around and unleashed a flurry of stars with Swift.
"Good form," I said, nodding in approval. "But try to make the transitions smoother. Speed's your edge—use it."
"Pawmo!" Han saluted before trying again, this time moving with even more fluidity.
Next up was Atlas. "Alright, big guy," I said, crouching down to meet his eager gaze. "Let's work on that Mega Punch. Focus on accuracy first, power second."
Atlas nodded, stepping into position. His paw began to glow as he lined up his shot at a distant tree stump. He launched forward with surprising grace for his size, landing a direct hit that sent cracks splintering across the wood.
"Not bad," I said, patting his head. "But try using your tail for balance when you swing. It'll give you more control."
Atlas gave a determined "Stufful!" and tried again, this time using his tail to steady himself. The stump split cleanly in half, and he turned to me with a triumphant gleam in his eye.
"Perfect," I said with a grin.
Lastly, it was Bodhi's turn. "Alright, buddy. Let's work on Mega Drain. I want you to focus on precision—spread the seeds evenly across the target."
Bodhi gave a soft "Shroomish" before concentrating. Tendrils of green light extended from his stubby legs, latching onto a patch of shrubs and draining their vitality.
"Great control," I said. "Now let's add Magical Leaf for a bit of versatility."
The rest of the morning passed in a blur of practice. Han's Thunderpunch grew sharper, his transitions between moves faster. Atlas showed remarkable progress with his close-combat techniques, his Mega Kick and Brutal Swing becoming smoother with each repetition. Bodhi focused on endurance, using his moves over and over until he could maintain them with ease.
By midday, the team was drenched in sweat, even Han's boundless energy finally starting to wane.
"Alright, let's take a break," I said, wiping my forehead.
We settled by the stream, where I handed out water and snacks for the team. Han flopped onto the grass, letting out a satisfied "Paw…" as he stretched out under the sun. Atlas lay nearby, chewing contentedly on a stick he'd found, while Bodhi perched on a flat rock, his expression calm and thoughtful.
As we rested, I found myself marveling at how far we'd come. Watching Han and Atlas bicker now over who could skip the stone the farthest in the stream, sparks of playful competition flying between them, I couldn't help but laugh. Bodhi, meanwhile, gave a long-suffering sigh, clearly wondering how he ended up with such chaotic teammates.
"You guys are something else," I said, shaking my head. "But I wouldn't have it any other way."
Han puffed out his chest, holding up his small flat pebble like a trophy. Atlas, not one to be outdone, immediately scurried off to end up coming back with a slightly bigger pebble but just as flat, his tail was wagging furiously. The look of pure determination in his eyes was enough to make Bodhi roll his own in mock exasperation.
"Alright, guys," I said after a while, "let's finish up here and head back to the Center for lunch. We'll spend the afternoon exploring Petalburg consider it a reward for all the hard work.
After wrapping up our training session and giving the team a good cooldown by the stream, we headed back to the Pokémon Center. Lunch was simple—just some sandwiches for me and a hearty helping of pokechow for the team. Han, as expected, devoured his meal like it was his last, his paws moving in a blur as he stuffed his face. Atlas, seated beside him, took slower bites but kept glancing at Han, clearly not wanting to fall behind. Bodhi, true to his calm nature, ate his meal with deliberate care, savoring each bite.
Watching them, I couldn't help but smile. Moments like these reminded me of just how unique each of them was not just as Pokémon, but as partners.
"Alright," I said, clapping my hands together after finishing my sandwich. "How about we go explore the city for a bit? We've been so focused on training and battling that we haven't really taken the time to enjoy Petalburg."
Han immediately perked up, his ears twitching in excitement. "Pawmo!" he exclaimed, hopping onto his feet.
Atlas let out an enthusiastic "Stufful!" and wagged his tail so hard it nearly knocked over his empty bowl.
Even Bodhi seemed interested, tilting his head slightly as if to say, Lead the way.
"Great. Let's go see what this city has to offer," I said, slinging my bag over my shoulder.
The streets of Petalburg were alive with activity. Trainers with their Pokémon in tow strolled along the wide cobblestone paths, vendors hawked their wares from colorful stalls, and children laughed as they played tag with their Zigzagoon and Skitty. The air was filled with the aroma of freshly baked bread, roasted berries, and the faint, earthy scent of the nearby forest.
Han dashed ahead, his curiosity leading him from stall to stall. At one, he poked his nose into a basket of poffins, earning a laugh from the vendor.
"Got a hungry one there, huh?" the man said, offering Han a small poffin to nibble on.
"Always," I replied with a grin. "Thanks."
Atlas trotted alongside me, his tail wagging as he took in the sights. When we passed a stall selling Pokéblocks, his nose twitched, and he let out an excited huff.
"Alright, alright," I said, chuckling. "Let's grab a few."
Bodhi, ever the composed one, stayed close by, his eyes scanning the crowd with a quiet curiosity. He seemed more interested in observing the people and Pokémon around us than indulging in treats.
As we wandered further, we came across a park bustling with activity. Trainers were sparring, kids were playing with their Pokémon, and a few artists were sketching the scenery.
"Perfect spot for a breather," I said, leading the team to an open patch of grass near a small pond.
Han immediately began darting around, challenging a nearby group of Pidgey to a game of tag. Atlas, not to be outdone, joined in, his stubby legs pumping furiously as he tried to keep up with Han's speed.
Bodhi, meanwhile, found a shady spot under a tree and settled down with a contented sigh. I sat beside him, leaning back against the trunk as I watched the chaos unfold.
"Quite the team, huh?" I said, glancing at Bodhi.
He gave a soft "Shroom," his eyes half-closed in what I could only describe as quiet agreement.
"Yeah," I said with a chuckle. "We've come a long way, haven't we? And there's still so much more to do."
As I spoke, Han and Atlas barreled past, kicking up a flurry of leaves. They skidded to a stop a few feet away, both of them panting but grinning like they'd just won the lottery.
"Pawmo!" Han declared, holding up a stick triumphantly.
"Stufful!" Atlas shot back, grabbing a larger stick from the ground and holding it up like a trophy. Sparks flew between their eyes as they stared each other down, their competitive spirits in full swing.
"Oh, for Arceus' sake," I muttered, laughing as Bodhi gave an exaggerated sigh beside me.
The game escalated quickly. Han zapped the ground with a playful burst of electricity, sending tiny sparks skittering over the grass. Atlas jumped in surprise, letting out an indignant huff before grabbing a larger stick and swinging it like a club, aiming for Han's feet.
"Pawmo!" Han retorted, nimbly dodging and sticking his tongue out at Atlas.
"Stufful!" Atlas shot back, wagging his tail furiously as if declaring, You're going down, buddy.
The two went back and forth, each trying to outdo the other in an increasingly absurd game of one-upmanship. Sparks flew between their eyes, a comedic rivalry blooming right before my eyes.
Bodhi, watching from his spot beneath the tree, let out an exaggerated sigh, as if to say, Kids these days.
"Don't worry, Bodhi," I said, grinning. "At least they're getting along... in their own way."
Before Bodhi could respond with another weary grunt, a familiar voice rang out from across the park.
"Hey, Mich! Looks like the gang's all here!"
I turned to see Flannery striding toward us, Santi and Numsy, plodding along beside her. Behind her was Roxanne, her usual composed self, with Terra floating dutifully at her side, and Titan trying to keep up with Terra's pace with his little feet.
Han paused mid-taunt, his sparking paw frozen in the air, while Atlas quickly tossed his stick behind him and tried to look innocent.
"Well, well," Flannery said with a teasing grin as she approached. "Looks like someone's been having fun without us."
"Can you blame them?" I replied, gesturing to Han and Atlas. "These two can't sit still for more than a minute. How'd your mission go?"
Roxanne adjusted her glasses, giving me a small smile as she released Rocky, her Rhyhorn, to join the group. "Let's just say it was... educational."
Flannery flopped down on the grass beside me, stretching her arms over her head. "So get this," she began, clearly eager to recount their adventure. "We were helping this trainer teach his Growlithe and Sandshrew some new moves. Sounds simple enough, right? Wrong."
"Wrong how?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Growlithe didn't want to listen to a single thing the poor guy said," Flannery explained, shaking her head. "It kept trying to run off and chase every little thing that moved—leaves, bugs, you name it. And don't get me started on the Sandshrew. It just kept rolling up into a ball every time someone gave it an order."
Roxanne chuckled softly, folding her hands neatly in her lap. "It was a bit chaotic at first, but once we demonstrated the moves ourselves, they finally started to pay attention. I had Rocky use Bulldoze as an example for the ground type move, and Flannery showed off Numsy's Flame Burst."
"Yeah, and once Growlithe saw Numsy in action, it started really paying attention," Flannery added with a grin. "That little guy's got potential, but he's gonna need a lot of work."
"Sounds like you two had your hands full," I said, chuckling. "I think I got off easy with the Taillow job."
"Oh, do tell," Roxanne said, leaning forward with genuine curiosity.
I recounted the events at the farm, from Han's "diplomatic" efforts to the chaotic blitz that followed. As I described the Taillow flock scattering in every direction and Atlas' determination to chase them down, Flannery burst into laughter.
"Sounds like classic Han," she said, wiping a tear from her eye. "Always ready to throw down."
Roxanne, on the other hand, just grinned. "It sounds like you really found yourself another one just as energetic and competitive as Han."
"I know," I said with a shrug as i smiled looking at my team. "I'm just glad that Bodhi isn't as hyperactive as those two are, i don't know if i could handle it."
"Shroom" Bodhi said softly in agreement from his spot under the tree, as he looked at us obviously listening in on the conversation.
As the day started rolling down, we each just took our time enjoying and relaxing. The pokemon were all doing their own thing as well. Numsy settled near Bodhi under the shade of the tree, letting out a contented puff of smoke, with Santi relaxing right beside her. Both fire types content with just taking a day off and just resting. Terra stood stoically by the edge of the clearing, keeping a watchful eye on the group as always, while Rocky playfully butted heads with Atlas, the two testing each other's strength, with Titan cheering Rocky on from the side as he tried to mimic their movements.
Han, ever the instigator, darted around the group, challenging everyone to a game of tag. "Pawmo! Paw!" he called, zipping past Rocky and narrowly avoiding a swipe from Atlas.
Bodhi, content to observe, lounged under his usual tree, though his eyes followed Han's antics with quiet amusement.
Flannery stretched out on the grass, her arms behind her head as she watched the Pokémon interact. "This is nice," she said with a sigh. "No battles, no missions, just... this."
I nodded. "Yeah. It's good to take a breather every now and then."
Roxanne, seated cross-legged nearby, adjusted her glasses as she surveyed the scene. "It's moments like these that remind me why its important to just take a step back sometime you know," she said softly.
Flannery propped herself up on one elbow, smirking. "Getting all sentimental on us, Roxy?"
Roxanne chuckled. "Perhaps. But it's true."
I leaned back, gazing up at the sky. "She's not wrong. I mean, we've been focused on the tournament for the past couple days and we've been training non-stop for it as well. It's good that we're able to take a step back and all. Give ourselves a bit of a breather so we don't get burntout.
"Yeah," Flannery added, "even I know you can't just keep pushing full throttle. Gotta let the flames simmer now and then, or you'll fizzle out when it matters most. With that we went back to just enjoying the view. With that, we all went quiet for a while, just enjoying the warm afternoon and the view of the Pokémon lounging nearby.
After a while, Flannery broke the peaceful silence. "Say, I saw an ice cream stand a few minutes back," she said, turning to us with a playful glint in her eye. "Why don't we get something to cool down with while the others play and lounge around?"
"Sounds good, Flan-Flan," I said, a teasing smirk on my face as I got up from my spot. Flannery rolled her eyes at the nickname but didn't argue, standing and brushing off her shorts.
Roxanne, ever composed, rose as well, brushing an invisible speck of dust from her shirt. "Good idea Flannery," she said with a faint smile, though the hint of amusement in her tone showed she was more than happy to join.
"Lead the way," I said to Flannery, gesturing grandly in the direction she'd mentioned. She snorted a laugh, pointing ahead with exaggerated flair, before marching off with her usual fiery enthusiasm.
As we walked away, we agreed to leave the Pokémon where they were, trusting them to enjoy their downtime without wandering off too far
"Don't go too wild, Han! And that goes for you too, Atlas!" I called over my shoulder, though their excitement made me doubt they even heard me. Just to be safe, I turned to Bodhi and gave him the all-important job of keeping watch.

Third POV
Meanwhile, the Pokémon were having their own brand of fun. Under the shade of a large tree near the training grounds, a quieter group of Pokémon had gathered to enjoy the calm afternoon. Bodhi, Santi, and Numsy were sprawled out together, basking in the peaceful atmosphere as they observed their more energetic teammates nearby. Standing just a short distance away, Terra maintained its usual stoic stance, scanning the area like a sentry while occasionally glancing at the others.
Not far away, the "rowdy bunch" was in full swing. Han, Atlas, Rocky, and Titan had started with a game of tug-of-war, using a sturdy branch as their makeshift rope. Han and Atlas pulled with everything they had, sparks of electricity crackling around Han's fur as Atlas dug his claws into the dirt for extra traction.
"We've almost got him!" Atlas huffed, his feet raking furrows into the ground as he tugged harder.
"I'm giving it all I've got, but he's like a boulder!" Han shot back, his voice a mix of frustration and determination.
Rocky stood firm, his massive strength making their combined effort look almost laughable. "You two couldn't move me even with an entire team helping," Rocky said with a snort, shaking his head as he braced himself against the ground.
With a triumphant grunt, Rocky gave the branch one decisive yank, sending Han and Atlas tumbling backward in a heap of limbs and fur. Titan, who had been watching from the sidelines, chuckled at the sight, his metallic armor clinking softly as he shook his head.
"Told you." Titan said, his voice calm but teasing. "You're not budging Rocky unless he decides to let you win."
Han quickly sprang to his feet, brushing himself off as a mischievous grin spread across his face. "Alright, new plan," he declared, turning to Atlas. "We go for Titan next. He won't see it coming."
Atlas wagged his stubby tail eagerly. "I'm in! Let's show him who's boss."
Titan tilted his head slightly, his voice dry but with a hint of mock bravado. "Alright, fine. But, uh, wait a moment!"
Before he could say anything else, Han and Atlas were already charging at him, branch in hand, their combined enthusiasm overwhelming. "Nope, no waiting!" Han barked with a wide grin.
Titan let out a sharp yelp, quickly scrambling back on his small legs. "Okay, okay! Hold on!" he cried, skittering away as the two pursued him with glee. "Rocky, help me!"
Rocky, watching the scene unfold, snorted with laughter. "You're on your own, little guy," he rumbled, clearly amused as Titan darted past him.
The pursuit quickly turned into a game of playful tag, with Titan weaving through the grass in frantic zigzags, trying to avoid being "tackled." Han was the fastest of the bunch, zipping left and right with sparks dancing off his fur, while Atlas bounded after him with surprising agility.
"Stop chasing me, you hooligans!" Titan shouted, his voice high-pitched as he tried to keep ahead of them.
"Not until you admit we're the bosses!" Atlas countered, his laughter bubbling over.
Han added, "Yeah, just say it and we'll think about sparing you!"
Titan finally tripped over a small clump of grass, landing with a metallic thud. He groaned, rolling onto his back as Han and Atlas stood triumphantly over him. "Alright, alright, fine! You win!" Titan exclaimed, throwing his stubby legs into the air in mock surrender.
Rocky sauntered over, his horn gleaming in the sunlight as he looked down at Titan. "How you doing little guy." he teased, nudging Titan lightly with his nose.
Titan huffed, brushing himself off. "I could've won if you'd helped me out, Rocky."
"And miss this show? No way," Rocky replied with a snort.
Atlas dropped the branch dramatically and flopped onto his side, panting but grinning. "That was awesome. You're fun to chase, Titan."
Han stretched his arms above his head, sparks flickering faintly as he grinned. "Yeah, not bad for a little guy. But next time, we'll go for Rocky. Now that would be a real challenge."
"Bring it on," Rocky said, his tone dripping with confidence. "You'll lose just like last time."
Titan groaned, pulling himself up. "Just don't include me in your next chaotic plan, okay? I've had enough running for today."

Back to First POV
The ice cream stand was nestled under a canopy of leafy trees, the colorful banner above it fluttering softly in the breeze. The vendor, a cheerful woman with a wide-brimmed hat and a contagious smile, scooped vibrant piles of ice cream into cones as a small line of trainers eagerly waited their turn. The air was filled with the chatter of trainers swapping battle stories and the occasional burst of laughter, making it a lively corner of the park.
"This looks amazing," Flannery said, practically bouncing on her toes as we stepped into line. "I call dibs on the spicy tamato berry flavor."
I gave her a skeptical look. "Spicy ice cream? Seriously? Flan, it's called ice cream for a reason. You know, the 'ice' part?"
Flannery just grinned, undeterred. "Hey, some like it hot, Mich. And you know me—I like to keep things fiery."
Roxanne, ever the thoughtful one, studied the menu with an analytical gaze. "I think I'll opt for something more balanced. Perhaps the nanab berry swirl—it's known for its calming properties, and a touch of sweetness never hurts."
When it was finally my turn, I scanned the board, trying to pick between the kaleidoscope of flavors. After some deliberation, I settled on an oran berry and chesto berry combo. Sweet with just a hint of tartness—it felt like the right choice to cool down after the whirlwind of training.
As we got our cones, we found a shaded picnic table nearby and settled in. The cool ice cream was a welcome treat against the warm afternoon, and for a few minutes, all was quiet except for the occasional hum of satisfaction.
"So," Flannery began, licking her cone, "how's training going for Norman's gym? We're down to the last couple of days, and I'm not gonna lie—it's starting to hit me how tough this is going to be."
I nodded, leaning back in my seat. "Yeah, it's been... intense. Atlas is coming along faster than I expected, but he's still got a lot to learn. Han's been putting in extra work, too—perfecting his moves for this specific fight. Norman's team is no joke, and we're going in against his third badge squad."
"High risk, high reward," Flannery said with a grin. "Grandpa always says that's what makes battles memorable. But yeah, Numsy's been holding her own in training. I've been working on her precision with Flame Burst. It's all about getting those hits in fast before the opponent can take advantage of her lack of mobility."
Roxanne tapped her chin thoughtfully, her ice cream barely touched as she mulled over her own plans. "Terra's Thunder Wave has been invaluable for slowing down opponents, but I'm also focusing on strengthening Rocky's defenses. Norman's known for wearing down his challengers with his team's durability, so countering that will be key. I've also been considering teaching them new moves to diversify their options."
"Diversifying movesets is always a good call," I agreed. "Han's Wild Charge is going to be my ace move, but I've been drilling him on controlling its recoil. Bodhi's Magical Leaf has been fine-tuned for precision, too—it's going to be a big help if we face anything like Norman's Vigoroth. That thing's agility is no joke."
Flannery nodded, her expression unusually serious. "Yeah, Vigoroth is a pain. I watched one of Norman's recent third badge level matches, those things are fast and hit like trucks. It's like trying to punch a shadow."
Roxanne's gaze sharpened. "Which is why we need to stay calm and focused. If we let our guard down for even a moment, Norman will capitalize on it."
Flannery chuckled, her usual fire returning. "Geez, Roxy, you sound like you're already facing the Elite Four."
Roxanne smiled faintly. "Preparation is everything, Flannery. And we're not just here to participate—we're here to win."
The conversation drifted as we finished our cones, and Flannery started recounting one of her more chaotic training sessions with Numsy.
"...and then she decides to just roll over and take a nap in the middle of a Flame Burst drill! I mean, how do you stay mad at a Pokémon who looks that adorable while slacking off?"
I laughed. "Sounds like Numsy's got her priorities straight."
"She's a diva, but she's my diva," Flannery said with mock pride. "How about you, Mich? Any funny training moments?"
"Well," I said, smirking, "you've already seen Han's idea of diplomacy. But during sparring earlier Atlas tried to use Baby-Doll Eyes on Han—thinking he'd catch him off guard—but Han just rolled his eyes and smacked him with Thunder Punch. I think Atlas learned the hard way that Han's not the type to be swayed by cute tricks."
Flannery burst out laughing. "That's so on-brand for both of them."
Even Roxanne chuckled. "It sounds like they're pushing each other in all the right ways. That dynamic will serve your team well in the long run."
"Yeah," I said "They're a solid team. I'm lucky to have them."
As the sun dipped lower in the sky, casting long shadows over the park, we found ourselves making our way back to our team. The gentle hum of conversation and the distant laughter of other trainers filled the air, giving the moment a tranquil, almost dreamlike quality.
"Tomorrow's going to be another long day," Roxanne said, standing and brushing off her skirt. "But it's moments like these that remind me why we're doing all this."
Flannery stretched, letting out a contented sigh. "Amen to that. Alright, guys same time tomorrow? I'm thinking of a morning training session, followed by lunch at that café near the Center."
"Sounds like a plan," I said, standing and pocketing my hands. "Let's make these last few days count."
