On Saturday, July 9th, 2022, at 1 P.M. Potter Manor time, James and Lily were in Lily's room to record another video for Lily Luna's World.
"Hello, all," greeted Lily cheerfully as the recording began, "My name is Lily Luna Potter and welcome back to Lily Luna's World. I am once again joined by my favorite brother James Sirius Potter and today we are going to be reviewing the fifth Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix."
"Overall," piped up James, "I really enjoyed this movie. It wasn't a carbon copy of the book, but it captured the overall essence of the book well. The Goblet of Fire movie excluded important information and plot points. The Order of the Phoenix seems to cover all the main things from the book. The dementor attack, dad's trial, Umbitch at Hogwarts, Fudge's Daily Prophet smear campaign, the D.A. and the Battle of the Department of Mysteries are all covered. There were some parts of the book the movie left out that people would have liked to have seen but nothing important to the overall story."
"I mostly agree," said Lily matter of factly, "The most obvious cut in the book to movie transition is the removal of Quidditch. But Quidditch is pretty irrelevant to the plot and story of the Order of the Phoenix. And while I understand why Neville fans are disappointed in not seeing the St. Mungo's scene, the fact is that is that it's not b important to the main story of plot. One thing that they did get wrong was omitting Dobby and Marietta."
"Marietta was a more important character than Cho," nodded James, "If anything, Cho should have been cut and Marietta kept. Portray Marietta as the filthy stinking turncoat that she was and just have her mention in passing that "My friend Cho Chang pressured me into joining," Ultimately, Marietta is responsible for her own choices and actions and that should have been shown. Cho didn't need to be in the movie, Marietta did. Hermione's tactical error in not telling the D.A. members that she'd jinxed the parchment and thus made it punitive rather than preventive should have also been touched on."
"And," fumed Lily, " There was no Veritaserum involved. Marietta made her own choices. And an accurate depiction of the D.A.s demise needed to include Dobby's warning that saved their skins."
"Dobby was also the one who told dad about the Room of Requirement in the first place," added James, " The middle Harry Potter movies really did Dobby a disservice."
"This movie," transitioned Lily seamlessly, "Also did a disservice to the friendship between mom and Luna. I HATE that this movie had Hermione introduce Luna instead of mom. Hermione didn't even know Luna at that point! Mom should have been the one introducing Luna! "
"But," smiled James, "One of the best parts of this movie is Evanna Lynch's awesome portrayal of Luna."
"Hard agree!" beamed Lily, "David Heyman actually said this about the auditions for this part: "The other girls can play Luna. Evanna is Luna!"
"One book to movie change I actually like," said James thoughtfully, "Is Luna being the one to introduce thestrals. Luna would not only be a person with an affinity for thestrals, but she would genuinely appreciate them. Thestrals are too soft and gentle for Hagrid. They are perfect for Luna."
"Great observation, James," said Lily approvingly, "That scene gives me the feels. When Luna says, "They're quite gentle really but people avoid them because they're a bit..." and dad finishes with "Different," you really feel how Luna relates to thestrals because she herself had been shunned, judged, and even mistreated for being different."
"You know," said James clearly, "I really appreciated how the movie portrayed Luna as barefoot in that scene because her not having any footwear when it was that cold showed that Luna's possessions being stolen and hidden was not a game or a low key prank, but an actual problem and a serious problem at that."
"Even the movie is too dismissive or that," said Lily bluntly, "But I have to give the movie its due for its very accurate depiction of Luna. You get the airy and eccentric side. But you also get the tough, competent, and loyal sides. I really appreciate how supportive Luna was of dad after the loss of Sirius and it's an honor to bear the middle name of Luna. Anyone who is interested in learning more about why my dad named me Lily LUNA Potter can check out chapter three of The Harry Potter Naming Thread on FFN. I'll also add that chapter four of The Harry Potter Naming Thread covers James and that chapters one and two cover our brother Albus."
"I'm intuitively surprised that fic isn't more popular," admitted James, "I guess the anti-Snape crowd never read past chapter one."
"It's either that or the readership base of FFN just doesn't have much interest in the concept of baby naming," replied Lily, "Back to the Order of the Phoenix movie, I do think Imelda Staunton did a good job in the role of Umbitch. She did capture the personality of pretending to be sweet and fluffy on the outside while clearly being worse than Hell and Azkaban combined on the inside. "
"They nailed Detention with Delores," acknowledged James, "Not just the portrayal of Umbitch but also the room itself. The pink backgrounds and cats give off a relaxing vibe but it's really a torture chamber."
"Now for a biggie," declared Lily, "What we do we think about the Battle of the Department of Mysteries."
"I mostly liked it," said James in businesslike voice, "That duel between Dumbledore and Voldemort was EPIC! Both Michael Gambon AND Ralph Fiennes were at their very best in this scene. This is one of those times you look forward to watching a scene and it lives up to the hype. Jason Isaacs and Helena Boham Carter were also at the top of their games portraying Lucius and Bellatrix in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. My main criticism of the Battle of the Department of Mysteries scene is that dad should have been portrayed as angrier and more upset when Sirius dies. "
"Yeah, Dumbledore vs Voldemort was O in N.E.W.T. agreed Lily, "The acting and character portrayals in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries were top notch and deserve praise. I do wish Hermione's near miss would have been kept in though. "
"I don't disagree with that," said James slowly, "I think a lot of first time readers probably thought Hermione had died. But the overall atmosphere and environment captures its high stakes nature seamlessly."
"I also liked it," interjected Lily, "That the prophecy was heard in the movie when it broke. I don't think its contents needed to be kept a secret. It's not like people didn't pretty much figure it out anyway. Though the line born as the seventh months dies should have been kept to make it clearer Neville COULD have the Chosen One if that's Voldemort had decided."
"And," added James, "It should have been explained in the movie that Neville could have been the Chosen One. The scene I Dumbledore's office at the end of the movie is both too calm and too short. Dad should have been releasing all his rage in that scene and Dumbledore should have been explaining exactly how we got to that point. This includes Sirius's rashness and Kreacher's betrayal. The mirror that could have helped if only it had been opened should have also been included."
""That's a valid criticism," said Lily clearly, "In fact, I'd say every Harry Potter movie after Chamber of Secrets has a rushed ending issue. Movies three through eight all needed to slow a bit and include more in their later stages."
"One last point," added James, "The movie should have revealed that Umbitch was behind the dementor attack. Movie viewers probably think Voldemort really did send them."
"And it would have only required a few lines from Umbitch to make clear," added Lily, "But I think the time has come to give the movie a rating."
"Eight out of ten," said James matter of factly, "The acting and character portrayals are fantastic, and the atmosphere feels right. The introduction of movie Luna was wonderful. And the Battle of the Department of Mysteries was epic. It has some flaws that prevent it from getting a higher score, mostly the absences of Dobby and Marietta and the rushed ending. All in all I'd say the filmmakers did a pretty good with this one."
"Eight out of ten is the right score for this movie," agreed Lily, "This movie has a lot going for it, but there are a few things that definitely deserve criticism. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is well worth the watch but read the book first."
"To honor Luna Lovegood," explained James, "Lily and I are going eat chocolate pudding before we sign off."
Next nanosecond, Lily dived under bed and retrieved two cups of chocolate pudding with spoons inserted.
Lily handed one of the cups of chocolate pudding to James while keeping the other one for herself.
James and Lily simultaneously raised their cups and said "Luna Lovegood!" before eating the chocolate pudding on the air as a tribute to her.
When the pudding was gone, Lily went into sign off mode.
,"You'll have to stay subscribed to our channel and keep watching to see what we review next," grinned Lily, "For my favorite brother, James Sirius Potter, this is Lily Luna Potter. Until next time, Potters out."
And both James and Lily waved at their viewers as the recording ended.
