To say that I was shocked was a bit of an understatement. I was a chick. For some reason, I was a chick. Is that what that old fart meant when he said that I needed to learn Miyagi-Do as a student would. I still had a lot of questions. One of the main ones was how the hell was Mr. Miyagi able to do that. I was pretty sure that I didn't know the guy's name or how to pronounce it. Also why did I have to be a girl in order to do this? I ended up saying the first thing that was on my mind.
"What happened?" I asked. My voice sounded so weird. Also, I was pretty sure that I had a Southern accent.
"You were hit by a drunk driver, Honey." The nurse told me. Had I hit another car in the accident? I didn't even know. Was I in the body of someone that I hit or something?
"Jenny!" A voice responded as she came into the room and hugged me suddenly. I knew exactly who it was. "I thought I lost you."
After she stopped smothering me, I said something else that I probably shouldn't have said.
"Ali?" I asked in disbelief.
"You usually call me Mom." She stated. Okay, I was pretty sure that I hadn't hit Ali's car because she didn't live in the Valley and also, she didn't have a teenage daughter. It was going to be super awkward with Ali being my mom. "How do you feel?"
At that moment, I couldn't help but feel like I was in pain.
"Fuck…" I cursed as I felt it. I then realized that probably wasn't the appropriate reaction. "Sorry."
"It's okay right now." Ali told me as tears came to her eyes. "I'm just glad that you're alive."
At that point, a doctor, who was also a woman, came into the room.
"It's good to see you, Miss Lawrence." She said. So that meant that I had the same last name. Wait a minute. Jenny…Lawrence…was my name Jennifer Lawrence? Okay that's kind of cool. "You've been a lot. You have three broken ribs, a bruised pelvis, but as far as we can tell, no internal damage. We're going to be keeping you here a few days to monitor you. I do want to ask you something. Do you remember anything about the accident?"
It was then that I realized the only memories were my own and I couldn't even really remember my own experience since I was so drunk.
"No." I answered. "A…Mom, what are we doing here in California?"
She looked surprised to say the least.
"What's the last thing that you remember?" Ali asked.
This was going to be very frustrating. I couldn't help but wonder if I could fake amnesia.
"Nothing." I admitted. "I don't remember anything."
"It's not uncommon for someone who experienced trauma like yourself to experience amnesia." The doctor explained. "Memory loss is usual harmless as long as motor functions aren't affected."
I hoped that no one was going to question how I remembered Ali's name.
"I guess we're going to have to wait a little while before you can start school." Mom stated. "It's probably just as well that you missed the first day considering what happened."
So that was confirmation that I hadn't hit Ali's car. That still didn't explain what she was doing here.
"What happened?" I asked uneasily.
"There was a massive fight." Ali responded. "Three students were hospitalized. Fortunately, two of them have already gone home. The third one however…"
"He's in a coma." The doctor finished. That was when it hit me that I was in the same hospital as Miguel. Maybe this would give me the ability to be around when he woke up. Maybe I would be able to apologize to him.
"Can I get up?" I asked. I was actually starting to get very uncomfortable with all of these people huddled around me.
"I don't think that's such a good idea." Ali declared.
"Please. Shouldn't we be trying to figure out if I can walk?" I inquired. Even though I didn't speak doctor, I was pretty none of those things would affect my ability to walk. Plus, I wouldn't be able to learn Miyagi-Do if I couldn't walk.
They unhooked me from some of the machines and I slowly moved my legs. It did hurt a little bit to do so. I also found out that my feet didn't touch the ground. How short was I? I put them on the ground and slowly stood up. I was kind of wobbly. At that point, one of the nurses got me a walker. I had to admit that it was a little bit humiliating, but it did help me with my balance at least.
Part of me did want to go to the bathroom and inspect my body, but there was also something wrong about having sexual attraction to a teenage girl. Don't get me wrong. I loved hot women, but that refers to people over 18. There would probably also be more opportune times to do things, such as a time that actually required me to be naked like a shower. I would also have to make sure that I wasn't touching someone else's body if there was a chance that they could get it back.
Above all else, I was hungry. I wanted to get some food. I knew that hospital food didn't exactly have the best reputation, but it probably was around the same quality as the stuff that I usually ate. I also noticed that I had people following me, probably to make sure that I didn't fall over. I made my way to the cafeteria and saw some fried chicken. I usually didn't get fried chicken because it didn't refrigerate for long, but I was glad to try some.
As soon as I sat down and took a bite, I noticed that Ali was looking at me like I was crazy.
"What?" I asked.
"It's nothing. I'm just surprised that you're eating meat because you haven't done it in years." She explained.
"Oh." I remarked. I didn't think that I could be a vegetarian. I liked meat too much for that.
"I'm not going to force how to be like you were before." She told me. "While any personality changes you have may surprise me, I'm just glad that you're still here."
"So can you tell me why we're here in California…and also where we lived before." I requested. It sucked not knowing things. Also, wasn't Ali supposed to be married in Colorado? I would imagine that if I had some dude as a dad, he would want to be with us.
"We lived in Brentwood, Tennessee." She explained. I had never heard of that place before, but I hadn't really explored the country. I supposed that would explain why I had an accent. "I recently got a job here because I heard that your father died, and I wanted you to get to know the place where he and I grew up. But as you can see, things didn't go according to plan."
So, people definitely thought that I was dead. At least I assumed that she was talking about me. Had we hooked up at some point around the same time that I hooked up with Shannon? Also, I was literally my own daughter. I hoped that I didn't have another kid that I had neglected. Messing up once was bad enough.
After I was done eating, I walked by, and I saw that I was by Miguel's room. I stopped and looked inside.
"Can I help you?" A voice asked me. I then looked to see that Carmen was there.
"Yeah…I was just wondering what happened to him." I lied.
"He was in the biggest karate fight. He got knocked over a balcony and hit his spine." She explained. "He hasn't woken up since."
"I'm sorry." I apologized. It was weird that she was talking to me, but it felt good.
"It's not your fault." She told me. That also felt nice, even though I knew it was my fault. Miguel would have never learned karate if I hadn't taught him, and my son was the one who put him in the hospital. "So, I don't think we've met. I'm Carmen Diaz. I'm one of the nurses here."
"Jo…Jenny." I corrected. It felt so weird to call myself that. "So why are you back at work?"
"I mean I want him to wake up, but I also have to do what I can to help kids like you." She explained.
I ended up spending another week in the hospital where nothing really exciting happened. And after that, I was stuck at home for another week. When I meant that, I meant that I was in Ali's old house. She had gotten the old place back. It also turned out that my new room was her old room. Thankfully it wasn't the same bed that I had sex with her on.
I woke up in the morning because it was an important one. It was the day that I was supposed to go to school. I stood in the mirror in my bra and panties before I went to get dressed. One issue was Jenny didn't seem that many pairs of pants and I had pretty much though all of them, so I was stuck wearing a skirt. My outfit consisted of a white tank top, denim jacket and blue skirt. One thing that I hadn't mastered yet was walking in heels, but apparently the school didn't want us wearing them much anyway.
I had seen the local news and there were not a lot of kind things about what happened in the mall and also Robby was still on the run after what happened. Miguel was also still in a coma. According to Ali, it had only been a few days for me.
I walked into the school and the first thing that I noticed was they were doing bag checks at the door. I could actually see the merit to something like that because there actually was a problem with school shootings in the country that no one seemed to want to do anything about. I handed over my bag, which mostly consisted of makeup and my smartphone which I still didn't really understand how to use.
"ID please." The guard requested.
"I don't have one. It's my first day here." I explained.
"Well you need to get one because this is your only warning." He stated. Would they not let people go to school if they didn't have IDs? That sounded a bit counterproductive and also sounded illegal.
As soon as I walked over, I saw Hawk, Bert and what was that other guy's name.
"Hey new girl. If you need anyone to show you around, I can help." He offered. I never knew how uncomfortable it was for someone to hit on you. Also, even if I did like guys, going out with someone whose mind had been poisoned by Cobra Kai would not work.
"I need to go to the office." I remarked as I quickly walked away.
As I was on my way to the office, I couldn't help but run into someone because the school had changed a lot since I had been there last, and I didn't know where anything was.
"Watch where you're going." The girl said. It was then that I recognized her as the girl who hit my car and the girl that Aisha told me was bullying her.
"I'm sorry." I apologized. "I don't really know where I'm going. I'm new here."
"Well it's nice to meet you." The brunette declared. "I'm Moon. This is Yasmine."
"Jenny…Jenny Lawrence." I responded.
"Your name is Jennifer Lawrence?" Yasmine asked in surprise. I hoped that people weren't going to make fun of me for that.
"Yeah, is that a problem?" I asked, trying my best to not sound afraid of her.
"No, it's actually kind of cool." The blonde admitted.
"See that's what you need to do. Be nice to people." Moon declared. "Do you want to hang out with us after school?"
"I kind of have something that I need to do after school." I remarked. As much as I didn't want, I would have to talk to LaRusso to see if he could teach me Miyagi-Do. If what the old man said was true, it was the only way to defeat Cobra Kai.
On top of that, the first thing that I wanted to was see Miguel. I didn't know what would happen when he woke up or if he woke up. Miyagi said that he would live, but I didn't know when he would wake up. I went to his room.
"Hey." I declared as I noticed that Carmen and Rosa were in the room.
"You know it's kind of touching that you're taking such interest in him when you don't even know him." Carmen told me.
"Well, I just felt like we had a connection." I commented. At that point, Rosa said something about kissing him. I assumed it was along the lines of kissing him to wake him up like in a Disney movie. "It's not a romantic one though. Do you mind if I try to talk to him?"
"I suppose you could try, even if it probably won't work." Carmen remarked before she and Rosa left the room.
"Hey, Miguel. It's me. Johnny. I know that I don't look like it anymore, but I'm here. I just want you to be okay. I just want something in my life to be good. Oh, and I found Ali. She's kind of my mom now. I don't even know if you'll remember me. Please just wake up." I said with tears in my eyes. The downside to makeup was that it started to run when I cried.
Once I was done, I headed to the dojo where LaRusso trained his students. It didn't seem like anyone was there. I sighed because I knew that it would probably be a good idea to try to talk to Ali about it. She had been trying to get me to get my memory back, not knowing that I wouldn't be able to get it back.
"Where did you go?" She asked.
"I went to the hospital to see that kid again." I explained.
"Is there any improvement?" She questioned.
"No." I answered with a frown. "Hey Mom, do you remember that guy you told me that you dated in high school: the one who did karate, I mean besides dad?"
It was still weird referring to myself like I was a dead man.
"Daniel LaRusso? Yeah." She answered. "Why do you ask?"
"Does he still live around here?" I questioned.
"Yeah, he's actually just down the street." She explained. "But why do you want to talk to him."
"I just want to introduce myself to him and make it so things aren't that weird in case we ever run into each other." I improvised.
"So how was your first day of school?" She asked.
"It's kind of hard." I admitted. I was never that good at school. "I'm two weeks behind."
"Well, you're a smart girl and I can help you catch up." She offered. "Well, I can try. I need to start working pretty soon and I might have to work some nights. Maybe you should try to get a tutor."
"I don't know how to ask someone about that." I stated. It sounded like it would be a pretty embarrassing thing to do. It would be like telling someone that I was too stupid to do well in school.
So, after dinner, I went over to the house. I rang the doorbell, but unfortunately, it was answered by his wife.
"Can I help you?" She asked.
"Yeah, I was wondering I could talk to your husband. He dated my mom in high school." I explained as I noticed that she was giving me a look like I was trying to say that he was my dad. "No, it's not like that. I just wanted to introduce myself to him. Can I please talk to him?"
She let me into the house and LaRusso came down.
"Hi." He greeted me. "I heard you wanted to see me."
"Yes. My name is Jenny. You went to school with my mom Ali Mills." I explained.
"I didn't know that she was back in town." He declared. "How is she?"
"She's better even since I got out of the hospital." I answered. "Listen I heard that you teach karate, and I was wondering if you could teach me your thing."
He looked surprised and he also looked upset.
"I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I don't do that anymore." He told me.
"Why not?" I asked. I needed him to teach me Miyagi-Do.
"Karate has caused too much trouble in my life." He stated.
"But you're the only one knows how to fight against that other dojo." I explained.
"Well actually, I'm not." He stated. "Mr. Miyagi had another student that he taught in Boston. She lives here now."
"Do you know where I can find her?" I asked. It would probably be easier learning from her than LaRusso anyway.
"Yes, I can give you her address." He declared. "Her name is Julie Pierce."
So Johnny is now Jenny and has to deal with the fact that Ali is her mom. On top of that, her path to learn Miyagi Do led her to Julie Pierce. What's going to happen when she meets her? Please don't forget to review.
