Aang

I woke up early this morning, as I always do. I started the morning with meditation and waterbending practice. Katara would hate it if I didn't continue my training. I missed her. I know I left because of her but I missed her so much. I really hoped she wasn't too sad about me leaving. I hope she doesn't blame herself.

I shook off those thoughts and continued with training. After some time of cleaning up the temple, I decided it was time to head into town and see what the mayor wanted to talk about.

I got onto Appa and we flew off. We got there pretty quickly as it was still early and the weather was calm. Many people were already awake and I asked someone for directions to the mayor's house. He told me the way and I got there quickly. I knocked on the door and a woman answered.

„May I help you?" She asked .

„Yes, I am here to speak to the mayor. He wanted to talk to me about something." A Look of realization washed over her face.

„You are the Avatar? Oh silly me, I should've known. Please, follow me." I laughed as she welcomed me inside and took me

towards a large hallway where there was a door at the end.

She knocked on it and opened the door.

„Sir, the Avatar is here to see you." She said calmly.

„Oh, right. Let him in." She left us alone and I entered the room while she closed the door behind us.

„Welcome Avatar, how was you first night." It was rather rough actually. I hadn't been on solid ground and slept next to Appa without everyone else in a while. He didn't need to know that though.

„Meh, it was fine." I shrugged my shoulders. He notioned me to sit on the chair in front of his desk as he sat down as well. I did. so and he folded his arms.

„So, what did you want to talk about?" I asked studying his expression. He smiled.

„Well, you know now that I have tried to reach the temples to try to restore them." I nodded.

„And now you're here and want to rebuild them. And you have the transportation to do it." I didn't like how he called Appa transportation but I guess I knew what he meant.

„The air temples are very large as you know." He was teasing around the topic now.

„What is it that you want me to do, mayor?" I asked growing annoyed. He licked his lips and looked up.

„Let us help you rebuild them. We have the necessary tools and in that way we should finish a lot faster." His words sounded so promising.

„Who's we?" I asked.

„A lot of the people in town share my idea of rebuilding the temples. And if people knew it would help the Avatar, I'm sure more people would join in and help. What do you say?" He looked at me excitingly.

„I don't know. Those temples are ancient and very important to me. I know how everything works. I don't know if people would be able to do what needs to be done. At least do it well." I said with hesitation.

„Well, you could teach them. You would guide them through everything. I can help you. I have studied the nomads for years. I know what you you would need to know. Doing this together would help you, Avatar." He reached foreword and waited for an answer.

„I guess we could try it." I still wasn't really convinced. It was an idea though. If we did everything very carefully, we might be able to do it. It would give me more time to work on the other temples.

He smiled brightly and stood up to shake my hand. What is with mayors and shaking hands?

„I'm glad you said that. Let's start immediately. The sooner we start, the more time we get." He said as he guided us out.

I followed him as he walked to the towns center.

„Listen up, people. The Avatar needs our help to rebuild the air temples. With our help we could finish the job fast and honor our heroic Avatar, to which we owe our peace to!" People began gathering up.

„So, who's with me?" The began chearing and shouting my name. I didn't know they would support the idea so fast. I joined the mayor and stood high.

„Alright, I will fly some of you up there on my bison and give instructions on what needs to be done. Everything must be fine very carefully, as to not damage anything. Do I have volunteers for the first group?" The all began chearing and I scouted out a few people that Appa could carry.

With that we took off amd flew directly to the temple. The people were holding onto each other tightly as we flew. Maybe this could really work.

We reached the temple and everyone began to slowly get off of Appa. They all looked around in amazement.

„This is incredibly. Such an ancient place, untouched by mankind for a whole century." The mayor walked around. His words saddend me though. I know he meant it well, but knowing the last airbenders were killed here a century ago was depressing to hear. I was the first airbender to step foot on this ground in over 100 years. Maybe I will be the last.

I showed them around the temple and told them what needed to be done. I flew back into town to get more people and then told them what they should do.

As everyone began doing what I assigned them to do, I looked and the temple and was happy to just see people enjoying it. It had been too long since I had seen so many people in my home. I will make sure to bring life back to it.

Meanwhile in Ba Sing Se

Katara

It had been almost a week since Aang left. It felt like his presence was still here. Sometimes, just for a second, I forget he left and think he will pop out at any moment. Only for a moment.

I miss him. I think I miss him the most. That's because I'm the only one who knows why he really left. He wanted to get away from me. I still can't believe he left to avoid me. I was devastated but I had to say it. He needed to know how I felt. I just wish he would have stayed.

I suddenly heard some commotion outside of my room. I got up from my bed and headed towards the main area, where the sound was coming from. I saw Sokka running in with a letter. Everyone came to see what was happening.

„It's from Aang. He sent us a letter." He said flagging the letter around. My eyes widend as I ran towards him.

„What does it say?" I hurriedly asked. He opened the letter and began reading it.

„He says he has arrived at the Southern air temple and he is doing fine. He hopes we are fine too and bids us to write to him." He says looking at the letter. We all look at each other.

„Does it say anything else?" I ask lowering my eyebrows. He reads the letter again and shooks his head.

„No, that's it." He said closing the scroll. I looked down. That's all he has to say after running off. Suki came closer to me and put her hand on my shoulder.

It's going to be alright, Katara. Give it time. He'll come back eventually." I looked at her and she smiled. I smiled back and turned towards the others.

„I think I'll go into the city. I need some fresh air." I didn't wait for a response. I just grabbed my water and headed out. The weather waning too good actually. The sky's were gray and it looked like it was about to rain soon. I guess I should find a shop to shelter in. I didn't want to go back to the others yet. Since Aang left they all looked at me with pitty. I didn't like that they were treating me like this. I wasn't a helpless little girl. Of course I was devastated that he left but they didn't need to make me feel even more secluded.

I arrived at the same tea house where you was a few days before. I came in and got seated.

„Ah, the Master Katara. Have a tea, on the house." The owner said to me.

„That's very kind, thank you." He smiled and nodded before retreating to the counter. After some time a server came with a tea and served it to me with some biscuits.

As I enjoyed the hit tea, it started raining. It wasn't very hard rain, more like a drizzly. After I was done eating, I thought about waiting the rain out but I didn't want to be cooped up in the tea shop.

I thanked the owner and walked out. I began waterbending the water above my head. There was also some kind of fog in the city. I could barely make anything out. Suddenly I bumped into a boy coming from around the corner. All the water at was bending fell right onto me.

„Sorry, I didnt mea-„ I stopped as I saw who I had bumped into.

Jet

„Looks like we keep bumping into each other." He said standing up. I waterbending the water off of me and began bending it over my head again.

„You're the one who keeps finding me." I said as I began walking away. He followed behind me.

„Did you or did you not knock me to the ground just now?" He smirked.

Oh please, you're being dramatic." Ever since we reunited back at the tea shop, I keep seeing him anytime I go into the city. He kept trying to talk to me about all kinds of stuff. He was starting to annoy me.

We had been walking for some time and I realized I was kind of lost due to the fog.

Lost?" He asked as he walked in front of me.

I'll be fine. Go home." I said picking up the pace.

„Hey, I know the city better than you. I can get you home quicker." No way.

„I can take care of myself." Just as I said that, it began raining more heavily. I kept my head high and tried to find my way back.

I had been walking for like an hour but still hadn't found it. The fog was still thick too.

„You want my help now?" I turned around and saw Jet. Has he been following me?

„What are you doing here?" I furrowed my eyebrows.

„I knew you would get lost, so I made sure to stay close." I glared at him.

„You mean you followed me." He shrugged and began walking in the opposite direction I was going in.

„You want to go home or not?" He turned around and asked. I rolled my eyes and followed him.

We were there in 15 minutes. I really had been lost. We approached the door and I turned to him.

„Thanks, I guess." He smirked. I hated his stupid smirk.

„Glad to be of help. Hope to see you again!" He shouted as he walked off. He knows he will. I groaned and went inside.

„We're you just with Jet?" Zuko asked me as I walked in.

„Don't ask." I said and walked straight to my room. I laid down and closed my eyes.

I wonder what Aang is thinking right now.
