So last chapter we talked about Nero... Which made me think, "How much do people actually like Nero driven chapters?" I partly like doing them, mainly because of how I can be more free in manipulating characters since that chapter is mostly made on my part. How the Villains would think behind the scenes... and stuff... Either way, back to your regularly scheduled Reborn Chapter!

Chapter 62- PULSE on the Mountain Top

Time: 9:00

Location: Ametrine Mountain

BBBBRRRRKKK! SSSSSHHHH!

"Woah, Steel!" A boy with white hair cried out as an ice dome started to collapse around him and his blue Metagross.

"Meta!" The hulking blue beast stood over its trainer, blocking any and all large chunks of ice and rock falling on him.

As the collapse of ice stop, there were some shifting of rocks as the white-haired trainer and Metagross emerged from the rubble. "Thanks Steel. That's another one I owe you for." The trainer was Percival Wisteria. He looked across the room his shivering slightly as his clothes were still wet. "Well… A-at least that ice wall is gone… S-Steel return! Oracle… I could use some warmth."

Changing is his Pokémon, Percival started to warm himself with his Delphox's flames. The Ice wall Percival was talking about referred to the strange formation of Ice blocking the Route to Ametrine City. The only way currently was to dive through the icy-waters of the mountain to get past. But as Percival found… it certainly wasn't an ice-wall, it was an ice dome. In side said dome was a weapon of Team Meteor, a PULSE. The Pokémon in question was an Avalugg. When Percival found the creature, it was crying out in pain. The usual the usual light blue ice of this Pokémon has now turned to a darkish gray, the flat surface on the usual Avalugg back was tipped, making it look more like an actual iceberg. As the PULSE normally does the strength of the Pokémon is exponentially increased. Making it a hard-fought battle for Percival.

"""Percival!""" Just as Percival and Oracle just about finished clearing the ice around the area for easier travel. Three people called out his name.

"Hm?" Percival turned around to see three girls: First the running towards him was his youngest sister, Marie. Though they were related, the difference in both hair and skin color showed they shared only one parent. There was also the young purple haired girl, Shelly. Reborn's Bug Type Gym Leader. Then finally there was Lucille, a traveling companion Percival had for most of his travels throughout Reborn. "Why are you three here? Didn't I tell you to stay at Calcenon?"

"Well… We were… until we heard a loud crashing noise coming from Ametrine." Marie responded. "What happened here?"

"The Ice wall disappeared…" Lucille's eyes were wide in realization. "Did you destroy it, Percy?"

"Well… It collapsed after I destroyed it's support." Percival pointed to the metal machine that once housed the Avalugg.

"A PULSE…" Lucille muttered… she knew what they were. How destructive and dangerous they were in particular.

"Huh? So, this is one of Meteor's PULSE machines then." Marie looked at the machine in disgust. As an aspiring engineer and a Pokémon lover, she loathed the creation of machine that sacrifices the lifeforce of a Pokémon in exchange for power

"Yeah. It housed an Avalugg." Percival explained. "It certainly was a tough piece of work. Though its main body was weaker than the outer shell that was the Ice-wall. Though I can see that they'd want it blocking the Path to Ametrine with that Signal they have over Agate."

"Makes sense." Lucille nodded to that. The Signal that was over Agate, was a signal of some kind that was making the people of Agate sleep.

"Um…" Came a small noise from the girl with purple hair. "Maybe I'm being stupid, but doesn't that seem kind if strange? Th-That is, if Team Meteor wants to block off the mountain wouldn't they put the machine… um… literally anywhere else?"

"…" Percival and Lucille fell silent in understanding. The path Calcenon was a somewhat small corridor that was met with the ice wall. If the PULSE had its ice wall just a bit larger, than it'd be impossible to get to Calcenon.

"Maybe it was a miscalculation?" Marie questioned. "Shell Bell, it is strange, but things don't always happen as expected."

"…Maybe…" Shelly sighed as she was unsure of why the PULSE was placed where it was. "But I need to make sure Heather's doing okay."

"Well, seeing as the three of you are already here. Let's go, with our numbers any Meteors in Ametrine shouldn't stand a chance." Percival agreed to their accompanying him.

It had been a while since the group had arrived at Ametrine. It was quite serene in the mountain top city. Much too quiet for a city that was presumably hosting a Meteor base. The group of Percival, Lucille, Marie and Shelly had split up into two teams to cover more ground among the city: Percival with Marie, and Lucille with Shelly. The groups decided to try to meet up at a place that seemed somewhat suspicious or possibly an abandoned building.

Though neither group seemed to get any information about anything: Nothing about Team Meteor and nothing about Heather. Though there was some mysterious talk about a guardian angel that brought the townsfolk food during the period of a food storage. Though Percival and Marie found it quite suspicious how the town's normal stock of food for when the path to the city was blocked had mysteriously disappeared.

"Hey, Percy!" Lucille and Shelly had arrived at the entrance of a strange building. It was about the time for them to be meeting up. And had heard rumors about this building being strange.

"You were checking this place out too, huh?" Shelly said.

"Yeah." Marie nodded. "We just found that it was unlocked. And about to enter. Oh yeah, I think I heard some kids saying that two girls died here. Maybe I'll find a Pokémon for Solace. I know he likes Ghost-types."

"Wh-what?" Shelly seemed to pale at the mention of that.

"Marie…" Lucille scolded her. "Don't worry Shelly, I won't let anything bad happen. Neither would Percy."

"Come on," Percival motioned for everyone to enter. Partly hoping that Marie's antics would stop.

The inside of the building was mess of mechanical tools and papers. It certainly was an abandoned building. There were two beds on the right side of the room. Though Percival and immediately took notice of the metal machine on the left side of the room.

"…" Percival silently walked up to the machine

"That machine is like the one in the m-mountain, right?" Shelly squeaked out as everyone's eyes landed on the machine.

Percival looked at the plate on the PULSE. just like the other PULSEs it had the name written on the plate. But unlike the others there were no numbers on this one. "PULSE-OA-PRO…"

"Prototype?" Marie inquired; this was certainly different from the other machines.

"In that case… We should really take a look around here." Lucille noted. If there was a PULSE here, then there was most likely a Meteor base somewhere here.

"S-So, um, where do we start?" Shelly stuttered, before finding a ticket on the floor. "Hey, isn't this… H-Here. It's um, it's from the circus. It says it's for Reborn League Challengers."

"Thanks Shelly… Ah… for that Crazy Clown." Percival said as he read the description of the Gravity Pass. "It is questionable how it got here though…"

"A-Anyway… Books!" Shelly pointed to the table full of books. "Let's start at the books! Books are always safe, even when they're scary!"

"Best thing we've got!" Marie agreed going to the table that Marie was out.

"Hm… A Diary? Well, the place is abandoned, so it's okay to read right?" Shelly looked to Marie out of confirmation.

"I doubt we could get in trouble. Besides it's not like it reading diaries ever got anyone in trouble." Marie said without a care in the world, both the young girls unaware of Percival looking awkwardly away. And Lucille giving a silent sigh as they recalled an event yesterday that happened because they read a diary.

"Okay, here goes. It looks like this diary belongs to someone named Lumina Seijaya?" Shelly questioned as she read the name of the owner.

"Lumina?" Percival turned his head, he felt as though he's heard that name before. But he couldn't place it.

"Ahem" Shelly cleared her throat as she started to read aloud.

The first entry started off with Lumina talking about her mother falling sick, and their moving to Ametrine to get away from the polluted city. Though the doctor warned it may have been too late.

The next entry told that Lumina's mother had indeed died from her sickness. It then spoke of Lumina and her sister Evelyn. Lumina commended her sister for doing the best she could, the city of Ametrine helping the best they could. But Lumina still felt isolated in this new mountain city, wishing to not be alone.

The third entry was grim, as it finds that Lumina has developed the same disease as her mother. It seemed to have run in their family, but it was a surprise it would come so soon. Lumina was afraid, even if she had only a few more years, she didn't want to face her parents yet.

The fourth entry was about Lumina's guilt. Evelynn desperate to try and find a cure for her sister, had been researching as much as she could. It made Lumina happy, but she wished Evelynn didn't push herself so much. Lumina wished that she was less of a burden on Eve.

The fifth entry had some good news. Evelynn who had been working herself to the bone, had started work on a machine. The machine's design was to enhance the healing powers of Pokémon, if she could amplify her Pokémon's healing potential, then it could maybe cure Lumina's disease. It brought joy to the dreary Lumina. Maybe she had a chance, maybe she'd have a long life.

The next entry, it was about a strange man dressed in black showing up at their house. The man explained he heard of the machine that Evelynn was making, and that he wanted to use it for his organization. Evelynn tried to refuse, but Lumina was taken as a hostage against her. Evelynn not wishing for her sister to die, complied to the mans demands. The entry ended with Lumina questioning. "Why is it that every time I hope things can be okay, they go horribly wrong?"

On the final entry, the handwriting had changed, looking very unstable. It was Lumina's last entry. It happened after an accident with Eve's machine. She was applying the finishing touches for a test run and something went wrong. The Pokémon she was testing on was a magneton, and due to the machine's energy, it accidentally evolved during the test. Because of the evolution the machine had gone haywire. The entry also described what happens when Magneton evolves into Magnezone how the three Magnemite fuse into one. Lumina didn't know how it happened, but the energy also extended to Lumina, Evelynn and the man… When the Magneton emerged as a Magnezone. Lumina was looking down at her own body, she could hear Eve's voice, and the man's voice… they wouldn't stop. They still don't stop.

"*Sigh…*" Percival sighed shaking slightly… his hand landed down on the table. He immediately understood a lot of things when he heard that.

"Percy…" Lucille understood the contents of that diary as well. Knowing full well of who those two girls, and that man were.

"Yeah…" Percival breathed. "So that's how ZEL was created… How Team Meteor gained the PULSEs…"

"What…" Marie silently said mouth agape… earlier she thought the creator of the PULSE to be a cruel person. Making Pokémon into weapons of mass destruction… but the person making the machine in this Diary. The engineer of this machine, she didn't want to harm Pokémon, she just wanted her sister to live. "Such a genius… No…"

"We have to help them!" Lucille exclaimed.

"Where would we even begin?" Percival responded. He certainly had no idea of how to fix the situation of Evelynn and Lumina. Even if they did, who said that their bodies actually survived? Or how long has it been since this happened? Was it even reversible?

"…" Lucille bit her lip as she didn't know.

While there was a bit of silence before the door to the house opened, surprising everyone, "Hello?"

"Eep!" Shelly shrieked.

"Hello…" Percival gingerly returned the blue haired man's greeting. Something about this person seemed off from what Percival could tell.

The man blue hair looked around the room, taking note of the four people he was meeting. "You know, this isn't a place for visitors. What are you doing here?"

"U-Um… We were looking for s-someone!" Shelly squeaked out, "H-Have you seen a young girl, a little shorter than me, with bright pink hair?"

"Can't say I have." The man shrugged before taking a closer look at Shelly. "…Aren't you the Gym Leader from the Lapis Ward in Reborn City?"

"Eep! He knows me!" Shelly shuddered before answering. "Yes, sir, I am!"

"Riiiiight." The man nodded with an exaggerated right. "'Kay."

"And your name is?" Marie the girl next to Shelly asked.

"Nunya." The man responded to which most of the room had already understood.

"None of our business? All right." Percival said rolling his eyes.

"Yeesh, just destroy someone's fun will ya?" The man said annoyed. "Just get out of here already."

After Percival, Lucille, Marie and Shelly left the building they started to discuss. Shelly seemed to have fallen into a sad mood. "Why does everyone react like that? Every time I asked someone here if they knew a girl with pink hair, they just awkwardly refused to talk and ended the conversation. It's like they're trying to keep her from us!"

"…Shelly, didn't one of the kids tell us that they swore not to tell anyone about the Guardian Angel?" Lucille questioned as she thought of it. Which had Shelly gasp in realization.

"So, you're thinking that Heather is the Guardian Angel?" Percival responded instead.

"But why would she need to keep something like that secret?" Shelly was confused by the reasonings of this. Why would Heather need her identity to be kept secret?

"Only one way to find out! Time to play detective!" Marie cheered happily.

So, the group went back around the city. Quickly confirming that Heather was indeed the Guardian Angel that was bringing the townspeople food. Learning that heather was keeping her identity secret to prevent her caretaker from figuring it out. That said caretaker was Blake, the man that the group had previously met at the abandoned house of Lumi and Eve.

Though it seems as though Heather had gone missing over the past few days. Leaving the group, no choice but to go confront Blake to see if they could find Heather.

Currently they were at top floor where Blake resided. Blake blatantly ignoring the group as he played a First-Person Shooter game. "Boom! Gott'em! Dumb noob." Blake shouted as he won the game. Finally sparing a thought to the group. "All right, so what're you doing in my house? I wasn't paying attention."

"…" There were two sighs of annoyance from Percival and Marie as Blake said that.

"I—" Shelly's face was flushed, a combination of anger, annoyance, and embarrassment.

"Look," Lucille called out to him. "Just tell us where Heather is, now."

"Oh, that. Dunno." Blake shrugged pretending as if he didn't know.

"H-hey!" Shelly called out fed up with him, "! Don't just shrug this off! Why did you lie before? You said you didn't know a girl with pink hair, but you definitely know who Heather is! You were supposed to be taking care of her!"

"Oh yeah? Says who?" Blake looked at the group with some annoyance. "I never said anything about taking care of her. I just said I'd watch over her."

"That's one in the same if you ask me." Lucille glared at Blake.

"…" Blake rolled his eyes at that, before his eyes fell toward Percival. Percival had been on guard against him. "Look, I'll tell you what. There's no need to mince words here. We already know what sides we're each on. So, I'll make you a deal: Get me the Ruby Ring, and I'll tell you where Heather is."

"Ruby Ring?" Lucille truly had no real idea of who Blake really was. Percival had barely remembered the name himself. But that one mention of the Ring put the two on guard.

"T-The ring? But that's important to Heather…" Shelly mumbled knowing that the Ring was an important item.

"More important than her life?" Blake mentioned.

"Wh-what…?" Shelly fell pale

"Are my terms not good enough? Then I'll throw something for you, too." Blake took out some sort of disk. "How about this Machine? It's for waterfall. Something that you were looking for, weren't you? Get me the Ring, and you get this and the girl. Good deal, right? We both win. What'll it be?"

"Sorry, but no." Percival met Blakes eyes and disagreed."

"H-huh? But Percival, w-what about Heather? We really need to find her! I, um… I have a really bad feeling about this. P-Please?" Shelly was begging from Percival.

"I'm sorry, but I'd rather not give the Ruby Ring to a member of Team Meteor." Percival said. "We've only just met, but I doubt he's kind enough to follow through with his deal."

"Wh-what…" Shelly's eyes went wide in realization.

"Well, your smart, just like Nero said. But not smart enough." Blake smiled. "Weavile, Ice-Shard! Starmie, Ice beam!"

"Weav!" "Mi!" A grey figure hidden behind the couch, jumped out. Launching several sharp pointed icicles at the group pinning each on to the walls. The other was a ten-pointed purple star with a red gem at the center, using the icicles as reference points locking Percival Marie, Lucille, and Shelly to the walls.

"I'll be real, I wasn't informed you had that. Nice change of plans though." With being unable to move, Blake easily snatched the Ruby Ring from Percival's pocket. "Heh, that was almost too easy. But I'll be generous compared to what you said. Maybe after you defrost yourselves, if you look long enough, maybe you'll find that girl." Blake smile before laughing. "LOL, just kidding."

"What the hell is that supposed to mean." Marie called glaring at the man.

"You really wanna know?" Blake smirked he had the complete upper hand here. And it was his time to gloat. "Truth is, I have that brat locked up good."

"Wh-what?" Shelly gasped as she heard that.

"Yeah!" Blake smiled. "Turns out that fuckin' little snitch was running around giving out food to everyone in the city. And as Percival already said, I work under Team Meteor. So, when ten-pointed the mountain got blocked off, I got some orders from them to hide all of the city's food. You've heard of fasting, right? Monks don't eat for days to cleanse themselves or some bullshit. Well, it's like that. If everyone in the city starves, this world will be cleansed too. Or something like that. Anyway, that brat was getting in the way. No one's gonna starve to death if they're being given food. So, I locked her up and fixed the problem. All business. Don't hold it against me. Or do. I actually don't give a fuck."

"You're horrible…" Lucille glared at Blake once more, how little human apathy did this guy have.

"That's awful! I can't forgive you!" Shelly also shouted in disgust.

"Oh now, I'm horrible… She won't forgive me. Woe is me." Blake said in an overdramatic monotone. "Look, I don't care about you anymore than I care about Team Meteor's Ideals.

"Then why side with them." Percival said, trying to wiggle his hand to a pokeball.

"I'm just using them." Blake simply stated. ". I'll do whatever they need and guarantee myself a nice cozy place in the New World. Don't have to deal anyone, except a few choice hunnies. Total freedom for life! Your little friend seemed to be interested in the same deal. No rules? She came right under my roof. Makes it all the easier to keep her for Meteor, so, that's that. Anyway, can't stay and chit chat forever. I've got things to do, people to meet, worlds to end! You know, typical Sunday. See ya, nerds!"

With that Blake left as Percival, Lucille, Shelly, and Marie were stuck to the wall. Though this wouldn't mean they would give up.
