Chapter 66- Ideal or Truth
Time: 15:00
Location: Celestine Cascade
There was the echoing roar of a water rushing over a cliff. This was Celestine Cascade… the place where Amaria had… Where titania jumped after Amaria after she fell. Without much of a way to get back up, Percival and Lucille would have to find a way to get them out of there. Where they had recently just finished all preparations.
Lucille managing to obtain the Technical Machine used for scaling Waterfalls, waterfall. Up in Ametrine against the Meteor Ace Aster, as well as obtaining her Absol and some other information as well. Part of that information led her, Percival and Marie back to the Agate Circus. Where Percival battled the secret Meteor Member (Also Gym Leader) Terra, obtaining his 12th Gym Badge.
How he obtained was a bit complicated, as he… Ahem had to follow Terra through a computer in a digitalized world. He did obtain the badge but Terra locked herself deeper into the world where Percival could not follow, giving him the only option to return to the real world. Where upon Percival appearing, Samson unplugged the giant computer in hopes it traps Terra there. Marie a young girl with love of computers and electronics decided to stay behind, try to find anything that she could about Terra's involvement with Meteor. With that set, Percival and Lucille made their way to Celestine Cascade. Riding down the waterfall on Percival's Milotic.
"Hm… I think I see the Northern Obsidia Ward of Reborn City." Percival remarked as Phoebe carefully descended falling water. "If we time it right, we could easily jump back into the city."
"Oh…" Lucille said almost lifelessly.
"What's wrong? I know something's been up since you took that ride with Cal at Ametrine. But you haven't said." Percival asked. Cal an ex-Meteor member took Lucille a quick ride down the mountain as she would ask him some questions about a particular member of Meteor. Ever since then, Lucille has acted strange.
"…" Lucille fell silent, she smiled slightly it's technically been only about two months since the pair first met in a train ride to Reborn. But it felt like they've known each other for longer, one could usually tell when something was wrong. "Cal… Cal told me something that I didn't expect… And... it frightens me… I'm not sure if I'll get through to Nero…"
"You can do it." Percival didn't know exactly what Lucille was talking about. But discouraging her would be the wrong thing. "Nero… Is certainly thick-headed. Even if you think you can't do it alone, I can do my best to help. You never know what the future can hold."
"…Thanks." Lucille thanked him quietly. Both were always there for each other, ready to support each other when they needed it. But even with Percival's help, there was still a lingering thought in Lucille's head. "(…Will I be able to make it?)"
The ride down continued peacefully, Phoebe getting more and more used to the descending waterfall quickened her pace. When Percival and Lucille just reached the point near the grand stairway. "Percival?! Lucille?!"
""…"" The two looked for the voice that called out their names. To see a face, they haven't seen in a while. It was a girl in a black and white kimono, black hair and onyx-colored eyes. This was the new sensei of Apophyll Academy, Victoria.
With next to no time to explain, rather wishing to. Percival quietly tapped Phoebe for her to move faster, and waved at Victoria until they descended out of view.
"We are totally going to need to explain ourselves at some point." Lucille stated.
"Yes, we will. But now isn't the time." Percival nodded.
Reaching the bottom of the waterfall, the air seemed twist, becoming a fouler smell. Was it the water…? Or was it the bodies that a Red-haired woman had been standing nearby. "Do you have any fucking idea how long I've been down here?"
"…" Percival and Lucille knew Titania would be angry when they next saw her… but this certainly wasn't what they were expecting. When Phoebe swam and dropped the two off by Titania, Percival answered. "Three to four days I believe?"
"Hmph." Titania shrugged a she lost sense of time being down here. "Anyway, welcome to the mousetrap. When I got down here, a group of Meteors had already taken Amaria. I'm almost surprised that Team Meteor is here, but then, sewers are a common place for vermin."
"By that Logic then Fern must be nearby somewhere." Percival said.
"Anyway, as you can see. I've already dealt with the first group." Titania pointed to the three bodies of the Meteor Members. "Admittedly, I was a little mad, but I think I handled the situation... responsibly."
"(Responsibly…)" Percival and Lucille quietly thought to themselves. Percival also thanking the heavens that he didn't bring Marie with them.
"Then they locked me in here. I've been stuck since." Titania continued. "With not much else to do I tried questioning them."
"I… I think that works better when they are alive." Lucille stated.
"Oh, darn, I forgot." Titania responded sarcastically. "Anyway, that's where we're at. I don't suppose either of you—"
As Titania was going to ask if either of them had a key of sorts. the large iron door locking them out suddenly opened, the grating sound of metal against metal.
"Company. About time." Titania's eyes switched to battle mode, taking her Aegislash wielding it as a normal sword. As the two robed Meteor Cultists step forward, Titania pointed her sword at them. "Stepping into a room with me is the last dumb thing you'll ever do."
"Easy," Percival said stepping forward. It wouldn't do them any good to just kill them without knowledge. "Why did you open that door? We're trapped in here otherwise."
"A new arriving commander has appeared on site. We have been instructed to allow you access to the Water Treatment Center." The Meteor responded.
"Why?" Titania followed up; this certainly wasn't what they expected.
"I cannot answer that;" The Meteor stated, "I am merely following the instructions of the higher faith."
"Fine, live by your orders." Titania said, before anyone could act, she slashed into the Meteor who was speaking. "Die by them, too."
"Ah…" Both Lucille and Percival let out an involuntary gasp as Titania cut down that Meteor.
"You—" The other meteor was going to curse at Titania but once meeting her eyes, the Meteor ran off, fleeing for their life.
"See ya." Titania called out to the running Meteor. Then turning to Percival and Lucille. "So much for being stuck. So, a new commander arrived at the same time you did. I'll spare us both the trouble in asking questions about that. They left the door open. This is an obvious trap. And I'm not inclined to care just now."
"…" Lucille and Percival made eye contact just wondering what the hell they got into. As they heard someone who wasn't Titania scream, they felt that they should hurry.
Following her they saw the other Meteor was now dead. "Another down, and one scampered off to the east exit."
"…" There was hesitation but Percival decided to say it. "Did you have to kill them?"
"Like I said, vermin." Titania stated meaning they were no longer human… But continuing with. "Beside I'm not about to let my mistake spiral into a bigger mess. So, anyone who gets in between me and Amaria is forfeiting their life."
"…" Percival while he couldn't exactly disagree with that thought process. He didn't like the idea of killing anyone and everyone.
"You two will be helping, of course." Titania said to both Lucille and Percival.
"Yes, we are responsible for this as well." Lucille answered. She didn't think this would go so bad so fast.
"…I only have Aegislash with me, as well…" Titania admitted, she didn't like feeling so weak. "We can all resent me for it later but I'll be asking some favors from you."
"Then we'll take the lead in this." Percival said, "Though I don't think we'll be going so brutal."
"So be it." Titania relented.
Going further into the Water Treatment center. There weren't much in ways of options to go. Though while continuing through, they found the Meteor Commander of this place. It was Taka, the son of Solaris. Though Taka always seemed different than normal Meteors, maybe something good could come from this?
Though reaching the next room. Percival and Lucille fought against a pair of Meteor Grunts where Taka was across a water way watching. Percival and Lucille easily dealt with the pair. But when the dust Settled, Titania slashed down one of the Grunts.
"Woah! What are you doing?!" pericaval yelled at her. "Their defenseless! They had no reason to attack."
"You know, battles are one thing," Taka called from the other side of the waterway. "But I don't particularly appreciate you harming my colleagues."
"And I don't particularly appreciate you taking my friend." Titania glared at Taka, speaking to everyone. "Team Meteor will stop at nothing to achieve their goals. So why should I? Am I supposed to be a Hero in this false Fairy-Tale?"
"…" Percival hesitated before remembering a certain house in Ametrine. "What if some of these people don't have a choice but to obey?"
"Look, I really can't defend some of the others' actions, all right?" Taka admitted, there were certainly bad criminals in Team Meteor. "But do you see these guys hurting anyone? Do you see me killing anyone?"
"Release Amaria and then try that argument." Titania ignored Percival continuing to glare at Taka.
"Yeaaah," Taka extended with a sigh. "I don't think that's gonna work out. But hey, she's in the Control Room if you wanna come get her."
"Believe me, I intend to." Titania said, stepping toward the center of the room.
"Now, now. Not so fast." Taka said as he hit a button on a control panel. Draining all of the polluted water from the room. A temporary block for their path.
"Again?" Titania asked annoyed. As When Taka made his first appearance, he pulled the same thing, but also trapping Titania on a platform. "Get some new tricks."
"Tricks? I mean, call it whatever you want." Taka shrugged; he wasn't below at doing petty annoyances. "But I'll let you figure the rest out. Ta-ta."
"…" Titania was getting more annoyed by Taka. Turning to the two with her. "He always acts that way?"
Lucille was the one to answer. "He's always been strange… Like he's had a questionable Loyalty. But he does certainly seem weirder… if you ask me."
"Really?" Percival added, "He seems the same to me."
"Whatever." Titania rolled her eyes. "Time to look for a way across."
Further into the Water Treatment center, there were questions of how long Team Meteor had been down here. And separation of teams into multiple paths to try and find the right way. On his own, Percival found the Beryl grid key and met back up with Titania and Lucille, as he couldn't find a way forward.
"We're at a dead end; did you find anything?" Titania asked as Percival came up.
"I found a key, no clue where it—" Percival cut himself off as everyone noticed the water level in the room suddenly drained out. Looking over at a nearby panel, there stood Taka.
"All right, what the hell is your problem?" Titania yelled as Taka changed the water level again.
"Problem? Obviously, I'm just following orders and trying to slow you down." Taka responded to the group.
"Bullshit. You're not event trying to hide it anymore." Titania responded. "We wouldn't have been able to pass through a single room you changed the water level in, UNLESS you had done that."
"Whaaaat. Really?" Taka exaggerated. "Oh, goodness. It seems I made a mistake…"
"You can drop the act." Titania called out to Taka. "I don't know what the hell kind of passive-aggressive game you're trying to play, but I'm tired of it. Are you on Team Meteor's side, or not?"
"Obviously I am, but…" Taka said trying to avoid eye contact, catching Lucille's gaze. "Look, it's not that simple."
"It's that simple if you let it be." Titania said in response.
"Ugh…" Taka grunted glancing about, seeing no nearby Meteors. "To be honest, I don't really agree with much of what Team Meteor does. But I'm in here for life, So I've gotta at least pretend to follow suit, you know?"
"Not really." Percival said coldly. "Sure, it's one thing when you can claim your powerless. But I don't think you're as powerless as you think you are."
"What the kid says is true." Titania agreed with the basis. "If you don't agree with them, don't serve them. Done and done."
"I really don't have a choice about that…" taka tried to deny that. Meeting Lucille's eyes again
"Did that stop Eclipse?" The one to question him was Lucille. Her stare not leaving Taka's. "She had the choice between her life and her fathers. She just wanted to cover her eyes, but when push came to show. She made a choice. Everyone has a choice, it's just whether or not you have the courage to make it."
"It's—not like that…" Taka said. "Look, you two know… But my father is the leader of Team Meteor."
"So?" Titania said.
"My family… It's—We're the last direct descendants of the culture that enshrined Arceus' meteor in Reborn so many centuries ago. It's our duty to protect it. It's my birthright... or more like my curse. I can't change that." Taka tried to explain to them.
"Not if you keep acting like a coward." Titania said to taka.
"Running from my fate would be Cowardice." Taka responded. At that word, Lucille picked up on something else.
"Is that what your father—" While Titania was going to keep pushing Taka. Lucille intercepted her.
"You know… Don't you?" Lucille said staring right into Taka.
"Know what?" Titania answered annoyed.
"Me and my brother, it's hard to explain but, we can see the last moments of a person's life." Lucille bluntly explained. "Nero… He's seen his own fate. But Taka, just like myself. You don't want that either, do you."
"…" Taka couldn't say anything, but avoid Lucille's eyes.
"…" Percival was silent, he didn't know that Nero had seen his own death. Lucille who was determined to save him, this must be hard…
"Look," Titania seeing that Lucille was saying something rather painful cut her off. "You said yourself that you don't agree with Team Meteor's actions, but you are allowing this to happen. They're your actions too. If you don't like it, change it. If you can't change it, leave it."
"You wouldn't understand…" Taka mumbled before placing a clearly fake smile on his face. "...But that's okay. I'm going on ahead, so if you want your friend back, you should follow."
As he left, Titania took out her Aegislash Slashing it into a nearby machine causing sparks as she slashed and scream at it. Until she finally she started to become exhausted. "Hah… If only he were standing there. I'm so SICK of living a lie. Hah, I should thank you two for resolving this stupid situation. Aside from the part where Amy jumped off a waterfall."
"It's not like we exactly meant for that." Percival sighed.
"But, I'm so tired of this. I can't stand seeing somebody else act so—" Titania rammed her Aegislash into the machine once more. Before finally returning it to it's pokeball. "Forget it. I'm just tired." Titania did also glance at Lucille. But also avoided eye contact with her.
Time continued, where Titania, Percival and Lucille continued through the Water Treatment Center. Taking on more Meteor Grunts, though this time Titania avoided killing them. But still putting the fear of Arceus into them. Eventually reaching the Lapis Ward turbine, Titania and Lucille getting locked into a section together.
While Titania in a vexed tone asked if this was supposed to be some sort of Metaphor. There was discussion on what to do. Only option was to have Percival go to the main turbine that was causing all of the pollution inside of the water. Purging the system would open the gates. But as they waited… Titania and Lucille were by themselves.
"Ugh…" Titania groaned now sitting on the metal grated floor.
"Here." Lucille handed her a small bar wrapped in foil. "A traveling Trainer's second-best friend after their Pokémon."
"Thanks…" Titania hesitantly accepted the protein bar.
"No problem… I doubt you've had anything to eat for a while. I'd give it sooner, but you seemed more focused on finding Amaria than food." While some trainers will have basics in food, water, and cooking supplies. Not all were strong enough to lug that many items around, nor would the food stay that good for so long. Making trainers often rely on wild berries and Protein bars.
"Yeah… I just want to find Amaria, punch Meteor's face in, and get the hell out here." Titania said chewing on the bar. "…After that, who knows where I'll go. No chance I'll get away with staying at Amy's place after this. She has every right to throw me into the gutter." Before Lucille could say anything, Titania continued. "I don't like what I did. In fact, I despise it. But I know my reasons. I don't need forgiveness or redemption. I just need to solve the problem. Get her back to safety, and then- Then I'll get out of her way. For good. And everyone else's."
"Forgiveness and Redemption, huh?" Lucille sighed about thinking of those words. "When you do something wrong, I guess the hardest person to forgive… is only yourself."
"What, you telling me to say it was okay to lie to my friend for so fucking long?" Titania glared at Lucille.
"I don't know…" Lucille sighed. "I think… in when trying to survive and keep those who you care about… morals get easily twisted. But I wasn't talking about you."
"Oh…" Titania said, thinking back to not too long off conversation. "Your Brother… my condolences…"
"He's not dead, yet." Lucille said. "But from what I've heard… It's going to be soon."
"From what you've heard? Didn't you say you could see how he dies? Or something?" Titania pried. It's not something she'd normally do… but Lucille was far from normal.
"I could…" Lucille worded. "I didn't even know that Nero had seen his death, so… I haven't seen it. And I hope that I can figure out how to prevent it without seeing it."
"…" Titania fell silent slightly. "Good luck, I guess."
"Yeah, it's not going to be easy though…" Lucille sighed. "I've told how he's part of Team Meteor… but look, I don't think I can defend his actions too much… But I think if things were just slightly different… me and him wouldn't be on such opposite sides…"
"Yeah, yeah… but a crime is still a crime." Titania responded coldly.
"…Titania… Have you heard what Team Meteor is doing?" Lucille inquired. Titania earlier in the first meeting with Taka said that she gave Meteor fake information in exchange for their information.
"Eh… Something about purifying the world or some shit." Titania didn't fully understand. But she clearly knew it wasn't good.
"More like rebuild the world in how they want…" Lucille responded. "…It makes me wonder what happened to them to cause such a thing."
"…" Titania was silent. "I think it's better if they just faced reality than a dream."
"Yeah…" Lucille sighed once more.
"Hey, I'm back I think I solved everything!" Percival ran into the room. Started to explain everything that he found. How in the Main turbine he found a PULSE Swalot, having to face it in battle? After that treatment center had started properly filtering the water. But after draining and refilling the areas.
On titania's and Lucille's side they did the same as Percival and blue clean water now appearing in the system. Titania smiled and said "Hah… Been a while."
Beep!
With a beep the gates that had once been locked now opened. "So, with that, the whole city should be running clean now. Amaria would be proud, now let's make sure she wakes up to see it."
The group continued through to the next room where Titania already had her Aegislash pointed at Taka. Amaria was lying unconscious on a nearby table. Taka however had his hands held up as in surrender. "Easy there, killer... The least you could do is show some gratitude."
"For what, your complete lack of a spine?" Titania growled back.
"I mean... if you wanna look at it that way." Taka's eyes glance to Amaria. "But I figured you'd appreciate that I've taken the liberty of having her wounds treated."
While it was true that Amaria's injuries from her fall were wrapped and treated. Titania glanced at the blue items in Taka's hands. "That's not the only thing you've taken."
"Ohhh, that's what this is about." Taka recalled having the Sapphire Bracelets on him.
"Give me the Sapphire Bracelets." Titania drew closer with her sword.
"Sure. Catch." Taka threw them at her.
Where Titania promptly caught the bracelets. "You're pathetic."
"Maybe, but, hey. My dad's on his way over to collect that. I kinda had to radio it in before." Taka warned the three. "Sooooo you might have to deal with that soon."
"I'm willing to accept that responsibility." Titania said to Taka. Percival and Lucille were also ready for that confrontation. Percival in particular wanting the rematch.
As Titania picked up Amaria, she said to Taka. "Give my regards to the men who treated her."
"…I would, but you kinda already killed them." Taka responded.
"…Right." Titania in an awkward response. "Well… Tough."
"So, you're just going to let us walk out of here?" Percival looked at Taka. This seemed too easy. "Bracelets and all."
"Yup." Taka nodded with hesitation. "Well, actually I do have one favor to ask. I kinda need one of you to beat me in battle. Gotta at least look like I tried."
"Just save yourself the embarrassment and resign already." Titania shook her head and sighed. "You're only making a fool of everyone involved."
"Then I'm a fool." Taka said in all seriousness. "But I can't just walk out on my destiny."
"Door's right here." Titania's eyes glanced to the door. "No one's stopping you."
"My blood is. And my father—" Taka breathed. "Do you have any idea what he would do? Do you have any idea how he would feel?"
"Probably slightly better than the countless people he's hurt." Titania responded.
Taka looked away. "Look, just forget about it. Hurry up, beat me, and get out of here already."
"If you're not going to stop us, I'm not going to enable you to keep cowering from your choices." Titania said. If we defeat you, we jus let you go on like this."
"Please…" Taka begged. "I've done every courtesy I could for you down here. Do me this one favor."
"I'm done with your games. Percival, Lucille. Let's go." Titania turned and carried Amaria through the door.
Percival and Lucille were still making eye contact with Taka. Percival breaking the silence first. "Taka, blood isn't everything. I was disowned from my family, and making my own path. I swerved from a destiny that I hated. I think you can too, but not with a battle from us. Sometimes to make a change it needs a few words, other times it's the lack of effort."
With that Percival followed Titania through the door. Leaving Lucille and Taka alone in the room. Taka close to tears. "Lucille. Please… I'm begging you. Will you defeat me?"
"Taka, Nero must have seen many fates. Ones he couldn't do anything, hasn't he?" Lucille asked a question that she didn't need an answer to know the truth. "He believes there is only one path for him, so he doesn't think he can change it or leave it. But I don't care how… But I will not let him die. But you Taka…" Lucille very much considered battling Taka. But in her final decision. "You are a lot like Nero. If I allow you to walk this path of internal struggle and pain, then I have no right to try and stop Nero. So, no, I will not battle you."
"…I see…" Taka nodded lifelessly. Turning away… "see you…"
A/N: So here we are, at a Major choice section of the Game... Reshiram Route or Zekrom route, truth or ideal... Well, seems that we're put on the Route of truth. For those who have played this game, you know that that means. For those who haven't well you'll eventually see. To be honest, I've debated a lot on which route this story would take. always somehow landing on Reshiram Route. Partially because the only person who could have steered the story to Ideal wasn't present.
Anyway... while this choice does have a major impact, that's not until... let's see here... carry the 4, subtract the Jigglypuff... Ah here it is! Percival still needs to beat Ciel, then Adrienn... Two Gyms from now. So got some time. Continuing on, the next chapter is taking place with a gauntlet battle... yay... three back to back double battles. I can at least write off the first one since it's just a against two grunts. but still we're having major battles going on. and I think it'll be first time in a while where I have Nero actually fight. Last time he fought... that was chapter 50... so yeah he'll definitely need a team Recap at the end of the gauntlet battles. Okay so see you in two week.
PS: (someone kill me I hate writing double battles...)
