I am back! Before the New Year! Hell yeah! How we doing people, right here we got quite the chapter. A chapter I think if I had written earlier in the depths of December, I could have actually left off as the cliff hanger before I jumped into Exams. But well, too late now. Let's see if I can catch up to the end of E18 before the next update of Pokémon Reborn comes out.
Chapter 69- A Sable Stage
Time: 10:00
Location: Agate Circus
"I know this probably isn't what you want to discuss… But what was it like?" A boy with white hair asks his companion. "I know that your Absol is special, and from what happened… It looked like it took a lot out of you."
"…It's hard to explain." The blonde girl looked down, frustrated. After Mega Evolving Hope in that battle yesterday she felt so Exhausted, that she could barely stand. Even now her legs still felt a bit shaky. "For one thing It felt like I ran a full-on Marathon without taking time to breath. We had to run through a lot of stuff in our time in Reborn, Percival… but that was the most exhausted I've ever felt in my life." The girl explained in detail. "But then there was another side of things… Everything looked so… so…"
"So?" Percival looked at his friend. Curious to hear that the perception of the world had changed.
"It was so easy to predict everything… but it felt like I was continuously looking through a Kaleidoscope… or the eyes of a bug." Lucille struggled to describe it. "It was like I was seeing everything that could happen in a matter of seconds all at once. Like a branching off timeline, and the further I tried to look the more my head hurt… so much to process all at once. Probably like a computer both running and actually showing the process of like twenty programs all at once."
"…" Percival blinked in surprise in hearing that. Sure, he'd deem himself to be great at double battles… but he didn't think he could do a full sextuplet battle. In his honest opinion that is what he felt this was most close to. "That… seems like a lot."
"It is… I can sense that Nero can mega Evolve Grim too…" Lucille said, Percival wincing as he actually had a taste of facing Nero with a Mega Absol. "But… can I even…"
"Hey, he's had years of practice… Yes, I know that sounds bad. But I know if it's not alone we can do it together. I mean hey, we actually managed to beat him and Solaris yesterday. If it's just me and you against him, I'm sure we can take him." Percival said with a calming smile to Lucille.
"Heh…" Lucille smiled, with their team work from yesterday. They beat two people that individually they had never beat before. "Your right. It feels like we're actually becoming unstoppable."
"That's good." Percival smiled back, "Now that we have that out of the way, why don't we check on that other Computer Problem."
"I wonder how Marie's been handling it here?" Lucille responded curious to how she's been.
"Oh, Percival and Lucille. Hey." Samson waved at the two as they entered the back room.
"Percival! Lucy!" Maire smiled as she shouted their names.
"Oh, Greetings you two." Ciel greeted, "I trust you were able to take care of your friends? That would be more than we could say."
"Not so sure we can call Terra a friend at this point." Samson commented on that last part.
"The point was less the "friend", and more the looming threat that you may have deleted her outright." Ciel responded with a glare
"And for the thousandth time, it's more likely that she escaped to another server!" Marie shouted in between the arguing match between Samson and Ciel. Looking to Percival and Lucille. "A bit after you left, I managed to find traces of another server. But those were pretty much deleted as soon as they were found."
"How fun." Percival sighed, this meant that Terra escaped without a hitch. "Marie, don't look so sad. It's not like any of us could have expected it."
"Yeah, in hindsight it could have been worse." Lucille tried to console her, and had a new thought. "If she had disconnected our end while Percival was chasing her…
""…"" Both Percival and Marie were silent thinking of how lucky Percival was in this point. The worst could have occurred with Percival captured by Team Meteor.
"Hello!" The Ringmaster of the Circus entered the room. Topping her hat off to everyone, before finally asking. "Any luck?"
"None." Samson shook his head, answering for everyone.
"That's too bad," The Ringmaster shook her head. "Although the number of on-site injuries has really dropped since she's been gone."
"That's a look on the bright side." Lucille snickered.
"What brings you two today?" The ringmaster smiled at the two. "Is it time for Percival to battle Ciel?"
"I'd be lying if I said I hadn't been anticipating such a battle." Ciel smiled thinking of the battle that would take place. Percival had since arrived in the mountainous region of Reborn has defeated two of the Agate Circus's Triumvirate.
"Your las performance was a stellar success. A lot of people have been cheering for the next battle of Percival Wisteria." The ringmaster said. "But I do hope you have a battle pass for her!"
"…" Percival went silent realizing that he never picked one up for Ciel. Remembering the odd rule for the to battle the gym leaders here.
"Er… You do have one, right, Percival?" Ciel turned to see the awkward face of Percival realizing he definitely didn't have one. "Oh dear…"
"Of course, it is policy that you can't fight without one." Ringmaster turned her head, seeing the face of Percival. "Um, we went over this before, right?"
"Ah! There it is!" Ciel made no motion of hiding how she placed a battle pass in Percival's pocket.
"O-oh!" Percival acted surprised, trying to act as though he completely forgot he had one. "Yes, here it is!"
"Percival clearly just lost it for a moment! Were all good!" Ciel tried to reinforce to the ringmaster.
"…" The Ringmaster just gave a tired sigh. "…Then I'll go make the preparations for tonight."
As the Ringmaster left, Ciel turned to Percival. "Call that an investment in my career."
"Yes, ma'am." Percival nodded, thanking the Gym leader for her help.
""Smooth."" Two people saying it both Percival and Ciel. Samson to Ciel's performance of just handing the pass to Percival. Lucille with a giggle as it was a rare sight to see Percival flounder like that.
Percival, understood that he could have handled it better. Shrugging it off.
"You're one to talk." Ciel remarked at Samson. "Now, prepare yourself darling. This will be a magnificent show!"
While most would be intrigued to see Percival's Performance. The stage is set elsewhere tonight. In a hidden base of Team Meteor. Off to himself, stands a boy with black hair and cloths in his room. Still angry at himself for his abysmal completion in acquiring the Sapphire Bracelets.
"Damnit!" The Black Demon, Nero Umbrasyl slammed his fist into the wall. He knew that Percival and Lucille weren't people to underestimate, yet he still managed to lose to them. "Even after all this… is this really how strong I am?"
"Who knows?" A higher pitched voice echoed into Nero's room. "But… was that really your best?"
"…" Nero perked up looking around the room. Whoever this was… They certainly picked the wrong time to mess with Nero. "Show yourself. Or you're going to really going to get it for sneaking in here."
"Like how you made the Aqua Gang regret making you, their enemy?" The voice mocked Nero, heckling him from an unknown source. "Man, you really demolished them, didn't you? It wasn't just Archer who was scared with hell fire. So many innocent low rankings Gang Members. Just regretting the side, they chose."
"Fuck off." Nero cursed at the voice in a low grumble.
"Or how about that battle against Lucille, Mount Pyrous." The voice spoke, distain filling the air. "You hurt several of her Pokémon beyond repair, you know? Her precious team members…"
"…Shut up…" Nero muttered weakly. He was angry, he didn't know, didn't realize… He was—
"That look on her face, just like ours when we first battled in Seventh Street. So confused, so full of fear." The voice tormented Nero. "Even then you were so close to killing her as well… It's strange how you could something like that to—"
"SHUT UP!" Nero screeched into his empty room. He had no idea where this person was. "Where the fuck are you?!"
The voice went silent, giving a sigh before revealing his location. "Right here, Nero. Right where I've always been."
"you—" Nero lost his breath, his eyes landing where the voice originated from. His own reflection. "Your… Your—"
"Supposed to be dead? Well Lucille made it, why couldn't I?" The reflected Nero in many ways stated. As an inverse of Nero's color scheme, the opposite of black. White, Bianco, Nero's light side.
"…" Nero silently glared at his reflection his opposite.
"You know why I'm here. We are not going to continue down this path." Bianco said to Nero coldly. With those words the walls twisted and distorted. Neither figure flinching in the changing room. Going from a basic room, to the dark and cracked city of Reborn. Murkrow crowed at the edges of the building tops, an all to familiar howling of Poochyena. An abandoned building with a gaping hole on the second floor, a stain of blood on the ground.
"…" Nero knew exactly what Bianco warped the mental scape into. While annoyed by this location, he played it off laughing. "Heh, I'm not sure if you remember… But I destroyed you once, I can do it again. Regardless of where you bring me."
"Oh, I remember. But this won't be anything like last time." Bianco said, brandishing an inverted Pokéball.
"Let's see about that! Go Hela!" Nero called, in unusual fashion. Out on the field appeared the black and red fox, a master of illusion. Hela the Zoroark.
"Smart, you know that I certainly won't fall for any tricks of that sort. But you know none of mine." Bianco chuckled tossing out his Pokémon. While one would have expected any one of Nero's usual six. The small bird in black, blue, and green with an eight-note head.
"…Is that Taka's Chatot?" Nero questioned in a low growl.
"What if it is?" Bianco cocked his head to the side,
the Chatot doing the same. Repeating the words "it is! It is!"
"You're dead. Hela blast away this madness with Night Daze!" Nero ordered. Hela's fur glowed with black and red energy as she fired the black daze of energy at the Chatot.
"Boom burst." Bianco swiftly ordered at the same time as Nero. With a deafening burst of noise.
BOOM!
The attacks collided causing another blast. With smoke from the blast clearing. Both the bird and Fox were knocked out cold, neither one a victor.
"You planned that… didn't you?" Nero's eyes fixed straight on the facial expression of Bianco.
"Hm… I don't know. I'm just trying to talk. Though I guess this place makes it hard for you to listen." Bianco shrugged, snapping his fingers. The world cracked and shifted once more. From the cracked city to a small building. White walls, bleak grey furniture around the room.
"…Here now." Nero again recognizing the place. Reborn City's Orphanage, home to it's resident doctor Sigmund Connal.
"It was around the time you showed up here, that I started to disappear… Wasn't it?" Bianco reminisced as he looked around the room. "The first time we met people who we could have easily made friends with. Too bad the first moment we met Charlotte we got into a fist fight. Both of us got sent to the Circuit that night… And Saphira had a distain to us ever since."
"…" Nero was silent. Glaring at Bianco until he noticed the temperature rising in the air. It was then Nero noticed the yellowy-orange nine tailed fox in the room. It was Charlotte's Ninetales this time. "Hades can handle a pathetic Fox like that! Flamethrower!"
Though the blast of flame from the hell hound was easily dispersed by the Ninetales tails. "Just because Hade's fire isn't like another don't expect an easy fight. Hidden power."
The Ninetales waved their tails sending a dark brown wave of energy at the Houndoom. Turning into solid rocks as it collided with Hades. "Ar…"
"… Hades Again!" Nero roared, with Hades unleashing another torrent of Flames.
"…" Bianco was silent as the Ninetales once more released a wave of rocks from it's hidden potential. The two attacks collided with the Pokémon. "Ah… Another double knocks out again."
"…Stop it." Nero growled again.
"Stop what?" Bianco stared blankly back at Nero.
"All I need to do is to destroy you… I get it." Nero held his head as if in pain. Sending out his next Pokémon. The three headed hydra, a draconic Pokémon. The Pokémon of the same species that nearly killed his twin sister.
"Ah… Orcus." Bianco nodded, the world twisting once more. This time they stood in the sandy pit of seventh street. Bianco sent out a Garchomp, Solaris' Garchomp. "This was an area of a lot of memories. So many scars to us, our Pokémon… but also where we met Team Meteor."
"…" Nero glared at Bianco; pain clear in his eyes.
"What was Solaris trying to teach you again… when he gave you the small Deino that would become this Hydreigon. Oh, right it was to learn from the past and grow. Though I guess we never really did that." Bianco commented, seeing the hatred in Nero's eyes. "Yes, I may have been gone. But that didn't mean I didn't pay attention to you."
"Dragon Pulse." "Dragon Rush." Both sides said at the same time. The Garchomp slicing through the purplish energy, though still taking damage in the process. The Pokémon finally collided, and yet again, did both sides fall.
"…" Nero hesitated as he reached for his next Pokémon. Choosing to go to another Pokémon instead. Out coming his bird of the night, A Honchkrow.
"Raven, is it? If I remember correctly this one had a great amount against Artemis." Bianco sent out the black and red Reborn Shiny Gardevoir. One of Percival's Pokémon.
"Your on to using Shiro's shitty Pokémon…" Nero growled seeing the Psychic Fairy on the field. "Raven, Brave Bird!"
"Artemis, moon blast." Bianco counter, where Artemis shot off a glorious blast of moonlight. Before getting rammed by Raven's wing. The power of the Brave bird knocking out Artemis, while the recoil taking out Raven. Resulting in yet another double knock out. "I see a trend here, don't you?"
"Shut up, Izanami!" Nero growled throwing out his Greninja to the field.
"Another angel of death I see." Bianco blinked reaching for the fifth Pokémon that was not his own. "Why don't I challenge with an angel of life. Theros."
"…" Nero's eye twitched, seeing that this was the Pokémon that Bianco had from Lucille. Nero understood if he lost here there was no chance to win. "Izanami, Ice beam!"
"…" The Chesnaught was hit with an incredibly cold blast light blue energy. Nero hoping for a sure fire one shot that didn't occur.
"Hammer arm." Bianco called out, Theros pressed through the Ice beam, pounding their arm down onto the frog.
"…" Nero twitched again, pleading in his soul. Theros just took an Ice beam, no way it could take another strike. If things—
"Are you really going to try that?" Bianco called out as Nero reached for Grim's Pokeball. "You hesitated earlier knowing full well. Besides you didn't even attempt to use him in that last battle for this exact reason."
"…" Nero bit his lip glaring down to the floor. The world shifting around once more. Back to that scenery… The place where Nero and Lucille first met Grim and Hope. The place where Nero thought Lucille died.
"So, are you finally done?" Bianco asked.
To which Nero snapped. "Done? What do you expect me to just lay down here and die?! Do you know how much pain we've been dealt?! How much pain I dealt with!"
"Who was the one who tried to dive into Madness here?" Bianco countered with a question. Both knew this path could have been very different if Nero didn't try for revenge against the Aqua Gang. If Nero had simply stayed in the Orphanage with everyone else. What would have happened then? Would he have been able to befriend Lucille and Percival? Would this pain he's felt end? Though that path was long closed.
"…" Nero turned away, done with everything. "Fine, I get it. I've done a lot of bad things. Things that have come back to haunt us… But we both know we barely have enough time to attempt to fix them."
"I know, but that wasn't why I came here." Bianco suddenly appeared in front of Nero again "I know how much trouble I've caused you… But you also know how many problems we've caused others. But most importantly, you don't know the full truth."
"…Truth?" Nero blinked in front of his reflection.
"I'll tell you, but we are going to set some things in motion. And I'll need your cooperation through this." Bianco said his hand outstretched.
"What are you planning?" Nero narrowed his eyes on himself.
"Chaos, some beautiful and utter chaos. Something that shall fit the end of a Demon like us." Bianco said with a child like smile. Fully accepting his fate, but with an anger in hopes to screw someone else over.
"…" Nero unwittingly smiled… sensing something important about this. For once in his life feeling like this was the right choice. "Fine, then let's go out with a bang."
