Cool news! The Fan Game Pokemon Reborn is now in it's testing phase for E19. I really hope when the game inevitably comes out it's: A) coming out when I'll have time to play it. B) doesn't disturb any of my personal theories and decisions for my story. (Let's be real, I'll be lucky if either happen).
Anyway, time for the rebirth of a city. Some clarification, and more questions. Enjoy!
Chapter 70- A City Reborn
Time: 10:00
Location: Opal Ward (Reborn City)
Bam!
There was a small bam on the streets of the Opal Ward. Three kids appearing out of nowhere with a black and red Gardevoir.
"Ow…" Cried the smallest of the group, a young girl with dark skin and black hair. "Percival couldn't you have worked on that?"
"Gar…" The Gardevoir, looked on to worry to her master who laid on the ground.
"It can't be helped it was Artemis' first-time teleporting people." The boy with white hair, Percival responded to his younger half-sister. Seeing the worried look of Artemis. "Oh, don't give me that look. No one always succeeds perfectly on the first try. Though you did perfect getting us back to the city in a full group."
"Gar!" Artemis cheered in admiration as she was returned to the pokeball.
It was around this time, Percival and Marie looked to see what their third companion. A blonde girl with silver eyes, looking around at this surprisingly "new" city.
"Woah…" Marie the young girl gave out a sigh of surprise. Her time in Reborn City was short compared to Percival and Lucille. But the changes were clear as day.
"Wow," Percival looked over a railing to a lake. A lake that he'd last seen in what felt like years, was once a brownish color. The lake was now a new beautiful blue, a beautiful blue giving birth to its name. "So that's why it's called Azurine Lake."
"Not just the lake… The whole city." Lucille commented looking around.
The once blackened and cracked concrete path was now solid mixed with various colors. The stairways that were once rundown with time now restored. Even more with new flowers planted across. Since it was still a city, one couldn't say the smog was gone, but with the blue skies over head it was clear it had decreased. But even then, the whole mood of the city had changed, where the people had once looked depressed walking through the streets, now had smiles across their faces. The city had changed for the better. As if once could easily say that Reborn City has been reborn.
The trio who had had their breath taken away by the sudden transformation of the city. Finally started to settle down with everything. Percival finally stirred the course. "Now, since were finally here. How about we do what Florina and Julia asked and visit Ame."
"…" Lucille seemed to frown, thinking about something else instead. "Do you guys think you can do that without me?"
"Huh?" Marie voiced her surprise. "What? C'mon, Lucy! Are trying to see the ci—"
Percival covered the mouth of his younger sister, sensing something about Lucille. Seeing how she looked in a north western part of the city, he could only recall one area of interest. So, he agreed. "Sure, me and Marie can go see Ame."
"MMM!" Marie screeched from behind Percival's hand.
"Though if it's something major, I'll call you." Percival said to Lucille, ignoring the outburst of his sister. "Also, please don't do anything dangerous."
"Please… Aren't we tied in that respect." Lucille let out a small laugh. Where ever either one went, it often felt like danger followed.
"…" Percival just rolled his eyes, "Come now, Marie. Lucille has her own business to attend to right now."
"…" Marie glared at Percival, but relented.
"Thanks," Lucille nodded, "And don't worry Marie we can explore later."
"All right…" Marie pouted, while she had times of acting very mature, there were times she very much acted her age.
Walking into a building, that Percival hasn't been to in a while. Percival notices that nothing has changed inside of the Grand Hall. Though then again, nothing was particularly broken inside this building.
"Percival are you sure Ame's here?" Marie asked her brother.
"Even if she isn't this is the only place, I can think of to find out where she might be." Percival responded. Though the worry of Ame not being here was unfounded. As Percival saw Ame standing at the front desk in the back of the hall.
Though it appears that she was busy talking to someone about something. "Please inform Bennett that we accept. He certainly did famously during the trial battle, but something feels weird about the situation. Maybe I'm just hung up on Laura's resignation. But the letter she sent was handwritten, signed, and unquestionably hers... Well, whatever. You can take care of the rest for me, right? Did you get his types?"
"Yes. I'll register and notify him." The secretary nodded to Ame's request. Then starting to file the paper work.
"Ame, it's nice to see you after so long." Percival called out missing on the conversation.
"Oh, Percival… and M…Marie, right?" Ame turned her white hair shifting as she turned to see the two. "…I Thought I asked Julia and Florina for Lucille as well…"
"She'll come later; she has her mind on something else right now." Percival heard that muttering, and lightly explained.
"Oh, that's good." Ame nodded, then remerging. "Oh, right. Here Percival this was a request made by Adrienn… I know this is late… Severely. But apologies for your falling out with your family. Nor realizing that your sister was here."
Ame said as she handed Percival a new trainer card. This time with the name "Percival Wisteria" engraved on the top.
"Eh, it technically not been that long. But I've been distracted by other things, so I don't really care about that." Percival shrugged, trying to play it cool. But he did like that his name was legally no longer Whitehall. From here on out, it was truly the legend of Percival Wisteria.
"To be honest, I dodged the question…" Marie looked away, as she never revealed to Ame who she was.
"But that's a different story, what's going on here?" Percival dismissed the matter about his family. Sensing that Marie didn't want to dive into it either.
"Well, before I explain, I should bring everyone here. This might take all of us. Adrienn, Victoria, Lucille, and—" Suddenly Ame's Pokegear started to ring,
"One sec. Hello? Oh, Arclight just one people I wanted to talk to about. Oh… Okay, yeah. Well, you knew the details anyway, after I get everyone else up to speed, we'll meet you there. Alright bye."
"…" Marie and Percival glanced at each other understanding they might have just got out having to find someone else.
"So… As I was about to ask." Ame looked at the two hanging up the call.
"Victoria and Adrienn, huh?" Percival scratched the back of his head. "I'll give Lucille a call to have her keep an eye out for Victoria. But I for one have wanted to see Adrienn after a while."
"Oh oh! Wanted to meet this Adrienn too!" Marie hopped interested to meet this person who was friends with Percival's mother.
"Yeah, you definitely will. Can't have you go out and search for people you haven't even met." Percival said.
"Okay, come back here when you find them. I'll be waiting." Ame stated, she still had to do some tasks that were around the Grand Hall, being the Pokémon League administrator and such.
Lucille walked her way through the streets of Reborn City. Making her way through the rebuilt wards of Peridot, Jasper, and Beryl. Peridot like the rest of the city had been under reconstruction, the two factories that once were Meteor bases were either destroyed or repurposed. Jasper and Beryl, what was once a tangled mess, now more of a nature walk through. Though the scars were small the two wards have clearly recovered from The Tangrowth PULSEs that once demolished this city section.
"Huh… Alright, I'll keep an eye out for her." Lucille casually said to Percival over the phone. Taking the warning to bring Victoria back to the Grand Hall is she should see her. "(Though I'm not sure this is the place I'd meet her.)"
Lucille thought to herself as she read the sign of Beryl Cemetery. She walked through it; it certainly had seen some better days. From what Lucille could tell there was some reconstruction being done around here. Fixing the graves of the dead.
Walking up the hill, she found two grave stone that she's seen only twice before. Both bearing the family name of "UMBRASYL".
"…" There were a lot of things on Lucille's mind. Ever since knowing that she had a twin brother, Nero Umbrasyl, and at some point, she was separated from him after an accident. She hadn't forgotten what she had heard or saw…
Lucille looked at her grave, yes, her gravestone. As just like last she saw was engraved with her name. Lucille's memories of a child still haven't resurfaced, she knew she took some life-threatening injury as a kid… but she was still alive. How, why did she have a gravestone?
Lucille then turned to the gravestone beside it. This gravestone was her father's. While there was a lot on her mind about it… She remembered nothing of her father. Only things she knew was second hand, the apparent abuse, and trauma he put her brother through. So, it didn't upset Lucille that she felt nothing toward this person.
But it did upset and confuse her why her mother never said anything about either of them. Shouldn't the City have contacted them about Nero when his father died? Why didn't her mother take Nero with her? Did her mother hate Nero, like how her father did? Though memories of her father and Nero prior coming to Reborn were non-existent, she did grow up with her mother. A kind woman… so it made this all the more confusing and painful. What was the truth?
"Why can't I just remember…" Lucille mumbled to herself, only anger she had was toward herself.
"Lucille? Is that you?" A voice called out to her. It certainly wasn't a voice to have expected.
"H-huh? V-Victoria!" Lucille blinked in surprise as she saw the girl with black hair and a kimono. "What are you—ah…" Lucille cut herself off, realizing that Victoria's former teacher Kiki was buried in Beryl Graveyard as well.
"Yeah, I was just… Saying "hello", "It's been a while.", and… "Did you find the peace you were looking for?"." Victoria said not meeting Lucille's eyes. Then finally when she could, Victoria gave a pained smile. "I think this city finally has."
"Yeah, I think it has." Lucille smiled; the city looked nothing like when she arrived a few months ago. "How's Apophyll Academy?"
"Trying to take over the Academy has been…" Victoria sighed, it hasn't been easy becoming the new Sensei. "Well, they're not shoes I'm capable of filling. It's never going to be the same without her, but then it's thanks to her sacrifice that it can even still exist." Victoria then smiled, desperate to look ahead. "So, I've been thinking, how can the place continue to grow? It turns out the answer wasn't to tear ourselves away from Reborn City like we did before, but give ourselves to it." Victoria turned to the horizon of the city. "Many of our students have been very involved in helping bring everything together here. But… That's just the answer I found. If she were still here—"
"You can't compare yourself to Kiki, you two are different people." Lucille interrupted Victoria. It was okay to look up to someone, but… you can never really become them.
"Thanks…" Victoria smiled weakly, glancing at the two gravestones before Lucille. "So… Did you know someone here?"
"K-kinda…" Lucille's voice cracked. Victoria was probably one of the last of Lucille's friends to know about her Twin brother.
"Umbrasyl…" Victoria read the grave's last name, her face scrunching as she read them. What Victoria knew was Nero Umbrasyl, the Black Demon of Reborn, a Member of Team Meteor. A member of the organization that killed her Sensei, person who had all but mutilated two of Lucille's Pokémon. "To think he had family here… L-Lucille…"
"Yeah…" Lucille sighed, though she knew that Victoria was just surprised about the name written on that grave. Taking her silver pendant from her neck, she clicked it open. Holding out the picture of a young blonde girl, and a boy with black hair. "…But there's more to that."
"U-um…" Victoria stuttered confused, not fully processing what this meant.
"Victoria, this… This is my grave." Lucille pointed to it.
"What?!" Victoria screamed in surprise.
"You heard me." Lucille murmured quietly. As Victoria stared blankly at Lucille. "You know what this means, don't you?"
"No… this he—" Victoria was surprised.
"Nero is my twin brother, Victoria." Lucille affirmed. With how many times this story got told, with how strange it felt each time, Lucille could only say it emotionlessly.
"He hurt your Pokémon Lucille!" Victoria countered.
"…" Lucille didn't respond. Simply nodding about that part… Lucille missed her Simipour and Musharna.
"…" Victoria bit her lip. She understood it didn't matter what she said. Lucille was the type of person once determined, it was impossible to deter her.
"Look, I know he's done bad things. I know how you feel…" Lucille clenched her fists.
"I'm not sure if I can understand. But okay…" Victoria breathed… Lucille was still her friend; she didn't want to be mean to her. "Though… Why do you have a gravestone?"
"I'm about as confused as you about that part." Lucille shook her head. With the repeating question of why she had a Gravestone. "we'll really have to ask Ame about that."
""We'll"?" Victoria asked.
"Yeah, Ame asked for me, you, Percival, and Adrienn. I didn't expect to see you here, but I guess it works out." Lucille smiled awkwardly.
"*Sigh…*" Victoria sighed, but with a smile. "It's good to see you again, Lucy."
While Victoria and Lucille took their time to get to the Grand Hall. Percival and Marie had gone and found Adrienn. Where Marie had been introduced herself to Adrienn.
"Ame!" Lucille called out to everyone in the Grand Hall. It appeared that Percival and Marie had went and gathered Adrienn.
"Sorry if we kept everyone waiting." Victoria said as the two girls ran up. "Though we have something to check, so I hope it can wait a small bit longer."
"Uh… sure." Ame was blindsided by this, but obliged to this as it seemed rather important to these two. "What's this about?"
"Ame, could you please run a search for a girl named "Lucille Umbrasyl"?" Lucille asked.
"!" Percival immediate came to attention hearing Umbrasyl. He assumed that Lucille went back to that grave in Beryl Graveyard.
"Okay?" Ame nodded, still confused. She turned to the secretary to ask about Lucille's request.
"Well, hello." Seeing it may take a minute for Ame to get the information. Adrienn took this time to introduce xyrself to Lucille. "You must be Lucille. I'm Adrienn."
"Yes," Lucille nodded as she introduced herself into Adrienn. "I've heard… uh… it's nice to meet you."
"Heh, I understand if you haven't heard too much from me. Percival knows little about me too." Adrienn laughed. "But it's still nice to meet you."
"…Right. Lucille, Percival. Did I ever tell you how confusing it is to know you two?" Victoria sighed looking at the two of them.
"Hello there!" Marie said hi, first time meeting Victoria. "I'm Percival's half sister, Marie."
"…" Percival sighed when receiving a look from Victoria.
"Great… First, I hear Adrienn was a friend of Percival's mother. Next, I hear that Lucille has a gravestone, and now this…" Victoria shook her head.
"What's this about a gravestone?" Adrienn blinked, confused at this.
"I'm not sure, but you'll get used to it." Marie said back to Adrienn.
"Wait, what?" The group turn their heads as Ame gives out a exclaim of surprise. She had just learned something surprising from the Secretary.
"What's wrong?" Adrienn asked.
"Well… it's odd, there's conflicting reports on Lucille Umbrasyl." Ame held a hand to her head. "We have death certificate for her, yet at the same time there is a hospital transfer request… at the same time. Not to mention a name change… to Lucille Luxen."
"…" Many of the group were confused blinking.
"Yes, I don't know how this happened. But we will get this remedied, Lucille." Ame shook her head as if shaking away a headache. "We'll also get rid of that gravestone. I'll have an investigation about an improper Death Certificate, but it's been about seven years since then… so…"
"Well, at least it's on record. Thanks." Lucille shrugged.
"Okay, so here's the situation." Ame said taking back to the main topic. "We received an anonymous tip that Team Meteor still has a base in the city, right under our noses."
""Devon?"" Both Adrienn and Victoria asked.
"Devon." Ame responded with a surprised look. "How did you know?"
"For my part, it's the only logical place left." Adrienn took the lead in xyr explanation. "I've been all over the rest of the city pretty intimately, but Devon Corp. is the one place that's always restricted anyone from working around."
"Even the Storefront looks shifty for what's supposed to be an international company." Victoria added her own parts.
"Sweet Co. Invested heavily in the restoration, and even Silph Co. was generous enough to donate funds." Adrienn continued. "The fact that Devon still refused after that also made me suspicious."
"Yes, well it's no longer just a suspicion or anonymous lead." Ame clarified. "I took the liberty of calling Mr. Stone with a business inquiry regarding Devon's Reborn branch. And of course, he informed me that no such thing exists."
"Then it's settled! We can shut it down for good!" Victoria cheered with determination in her voice.
"Before that, there's one more thing." Ame said, this time a bit of worry in her voice. "Our informant also told us that the leader of Team Meteor is hidden there right now."
"…" Percival unconsciously shuddered when he heard that.
"Solaris… I won't hold back." Victoria's eyes narrowed wishing for revenge against the man who killed her Sensei.
"No. It's Lin." Ame corrected. "From what Saphira has told me, we can't take any chances with her. That's why I need all of you. And that's why I'm going too."
"Oh?" Adrienn seemed surprised. "I thought you said you intended to stay on the sidelines?
"It's true that Anna asked me to do that originally… but at this point, if we can end all of this now, I'll do whatever it takes. Besides, as the Champion, I can't just do nothing, right?" Ame said.
"""What?!""" came the reaction from the three people didn't know Ame's true identity.
"Sorry, you didn't know…" Ame gave an awkward smile at that. "It's not something I like to toss around or brag about. But I did restart this league after all, and who did you think runs the trial battles for Leaders? Anyway, it's really not important. Right now, we need to focus on Devon Corp."
"""Yes, ma'am.""" The three said.
While the Champion Ame was giving out the plan of what to do for Devon. On the eastern side of town, two new figures make their appearance.
"Maaaaan, that was a long ride. I could've sworn Igneel was going to give out halfway through that flight." Said a girl with dark skin, wavy blonde hair, shaved on the left side of her head. She wore a purple amethyst earring, with a no sleeve shirt with a white accent, white pants and knee-high boots.
"…" Her companion a teen boy with long white hair same skin tone. He had black glasses over his eyes, wearing a white jacket over a black t-shirt, with blue jeans. "Igneel isn't that weak. He wouldn't even have to carry the two of us if you'd just capture a damn flying type."
"And have a four times weakness to Electric types. Hell, no bitch." The girl rolled her green eyes. Glancing at a nearby jewelry stand. She spotted a strange necklace of an x with blue, red, purple, and green. "Oooooh, this looks cool~ Yo, thinks this suits me? Maybe make me a chick magnet?"
"Get a hold of yourself Ari." Said the whitehaired boy. "We came here for a reason after all."
"Yeah… I know… Still don't know why Marie chose to follow after that idiot." Ari rolled her eyes. Still thinking about buying that necklace. "She certainly won't be following willingly, Kuro."
"Then we have to force her. If she's managed to meet up with Percival. Well, he better just let us take her or get tormented again." Kuro spat, looking around the buildings, people, and shops of this city. "Ugh… this place is disgusting."
