Chapter 71- Oh Brother...
Time: 14:00
Location: Reborn City Railnet
Since having the explanation of how everyone was going to raid the "Devon Corp" building. The teams have been split between two groups. A above ground team, and a below ground team. The reason for this when receiving the anonymous tip about the hidden Meteor base, it included the building's access to the underground railnet. So, a team would enter the storefront entrance blocking that exit, while the other would cutoff the hidden exit to the Railnet.
How the teams were split were as followed. The above ground team consisted of: Adrienn, Ame, Lucille and Marie. Reasons was as Ame and Adrienn leading in the reconstruction of reborn would becoming to the store to ask "Devon" for their aid again, with Marie and Lucille waiting outside the front on the off chance something seemed suspicious.
While the remain underground was Victoria, Percival, and DJ Arclight. Currently Percival and Victoria were walking through the Railnet to get to Arclight.
"So, what do you think about all of this?" Percival, the white-haired trainer asked the black-haired kimono girl.
"With the anonymous tip, the scales are tipped in our favor." Victoria smiled confident in their victory.
"Well at least one of us is confident." Percival usually the optimist… Had a bad feeling about this. Was it the anonymous tip, or the fact that Team Meteor's Lin was actually here?
"I'm assuming since last we've met; you've met with Meteor's actual leader?" Victoria inclined to that. The person who she once thought the leader, Solaris, now turned out to be second in command.
"Yes, I have… between fighting Solaris and her. I'd choose Solaris." Percival admitted, but for no means because he's actually beat Solaris.
"I'd much rather him be here too." Victoria said in a low growl. She had a score to settle with him, a score to avenge the teacher that Solaris killed.
Seeing that anger in Victoria, it took Percival by surprised. From all the interactions Percival had with her, he'd only seen her angry once. "While Solaris might not be here. I think there is another member that might be. He often seems to appear in important Meteor business, after all."
"…" Victoria knew the person Percival was talking about, falling silent.
Percival knew that Victoria probably would never give a member of Meteor sympathy. Especially any that were on Pyrous Mountain. "Victoria have you ever heard of Seventh Street?"
"Yeah… It's place where criminals gather isn't it?" Victoria asked, somewhat confused as to why Percival brought this up.
"Well, you know about those gravestones. Well… Seventh Street was pretty much where Nero grew up." Percival briefly mentioned. "Now I'm not excusing Nero for any of his actions. But I think, if I were in his position… I'd probably walk a similar path."
"What?" Victoria said stunned to Percival's words.
"I don't know the full story on Nero. But I understand that he's lost places that he found a home in twice. And fought tooth and nail just to survive. Taking his anger out on anyone who tries to hurt him or who he deems his allies." Percival spoke. "Living as a Whitehall, I was taught harshly… lo—not having much understanding of what a true family meant. If it wasn't for my grandfather or Marie… I think I'd be a much worse person. A Nero of a different perspective."
"…You… you want to help him too, don't you?" Victoria asked, reluctantly.
"I'm not exactly sure what I want from Nero. But I do know I want Lucille to repair her family relationship with him." Percival said. "But that may have to be a result of him getting arrested."
"All right…" Victoria nodded, before they noticed they were finally in the position under the "Devon" building.
The proof of that was the man with yellow hair, headphones, black vest and grew clothes. Calling out to the two. "Percival and Victoria, you two got the lowdown, right?"
"Yup," Victoria nodded in place.
"Good, I've got a radio comm' here, and the others have the receiving piece." Arclight explained. Pointing to his head phones. "When I send the signal, we'll bust in at the same time. You two set to do this?"
"I'm all for it." Victoria nodded determined.
"Ready as I'll ever be." Percival nodded along
"Good, I'll radio the others and be right behind you." Arc said, contacting the other team.
"Phew, barely broke a sweat." Percival smirked as he, Victoria, and Arclight all defeated a group of Meteor grunts in the basement. The operation had started, and it was gone time.
"No time to lose! Let's hustle!" Arc called as the group headed up to the ground floor from the basement. At the next level they found themselves in a narrow hall, with a path leading only to the store front. "Ame, Adrienn, Lucille, and Marie should have finished dealing with the storefront by now, but…"
"They're not here?" Victoria asked as Arc looked out into the store.
"I don't see 'em." Arc announced, a pit of worry entered Percival's stomach. "Maybe they went on ahead. I'll go ahead just far enough to see if they're up there. Percival check the storefront for me. Victoria, I want you to watch our exit incase anyone comes to separate us that way. I don't trust this."
"I don't either." Percival nodded, warning Arclight to be careful himself.
"Be safe! Let's not go too far!" Victoria warned both of them.
Percival had exited out into the storefront of the "Devon" building. Looking around the room was a mess, some Meteor Grunts knocked out. Meaning a battle did take place. Percival wondered if they got captured, but The Champion of the Reborn League was here. It's impossible for her to be defeated, right?
"Somethings definitely up…" Percival mumbled to himself. Cursing himself for not saying his worries earlier. Both Percival and Lucille had heard what Meteor does to traitors, so how or rather why did they get an annoys tip about this place. Another worry was Lin, Percival hasn't had the courtesy of even battling her, yet he shuddered just thinking about fighting her.
Looking at the room, a small metal device caught Percival's eye. It was a radio… the other side to Arclight's Radio Comm. Though when picking up, Percival noticed a small bit of dust… no powder on the comm.
"Sleep powder?" Percival questioned, glancing around the room. He noticed there were two giant vents in the ceiling. Easy to disperse a sleeping agent if needed.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Percival turned to the door; it was solid metal. A Security measure for most places of business. "Did they trigger a security alarm on Ame and Adrienn?" Percival moved to the desk locating a switch on the underside. Flicking it the other way, the metallic door then opened.
"Kuro, it opened!" A girl with blonde hair, dark skin ran into the room. "I'm positive Marie came in—"
"Ari, why the hell would Marie enter here?" Came in a boy with dark skin. and pure white hair, much like Percival's. "Doesn't make… You…"
"Why the hell are you two here?!" Percival shouted as he looked at his other two half-siblings. His older brother Kuro Whitehall, and his other sister Ari Whitehall.
"Could ask you the same question. Now where the Fuck is Marie." Kuro spat in an annoyed tone.
"…I was hoping outside." Percival responded with gritted teeth. With how things looked now Ame, Adrienn, Lucille, and Marie were all captured.
"What?" Ari looked at Percival confused. "What do you mean outside. I saw her come in here?"
"Aaaah!" A sudden scream came from the back.
"!" Percival reacted to the scream. Running back into the back hall, Percival noted Victoria wasn't there. Worry he ran up the stairs to the next floor, but to his pleasure. Victoria and Arclight were fine, if not surprised by how they got jumped.
"Call it karma!" Victoria yelled at the grunt who she beat. "You had that loss coming to you."
"Thanks for the back up." Arc smiled at Victoria.
"It's nothing! I heard fighting from downstairs, and I wasn't about to just stand by." Victoria responded.
"Then I assume the scream was from one of them." Percival announced his presence, pointing at the grunts.
"Percival, any sign of them?" Arc asked, seeing that Percival was now here.
"No, but found this and traces of what I assume was Sleep Powder." Percival threw the Radio Transceiver to Arc.
"Tch, great. No doubt this is—" Arc was going to confirm that this was in fact the transceiver he gave to Ame. When the two siblings of Percival run up.
"Oi, where the fuck do you think you're running off to!" Kuro roared as he entered the second floor.
"Jeez, leave us behind like that. Oooh What a pretty girl." Ari's attitude changed on a dime spotting Victoria.
"Percival who the hell are these guys?" Victoria looked confused at the two newcomers.
"My other half siblings…" Percival said with a sigh.
"Ex-siblings. You're the one who got themselves disowned you know." Kuro pointed out. "What the hell is going on here?"
"…" Victoria silently looked to Arc and Percival. Arc was just as confused as Victoria was, while Percival just shrugged.
"A sting operation. Of sorts." Percival finally admitted to his siblings.
""A Sting Operation?!"" The two screamed back.
"What the hell are you thinking Percival?! I know you of all people aren't dumb enough to bring Marie to a Sting operation." Ari screamed at Percival.
"Look, things ar—" Percival tried
"From the looks of it, it's hit the shits hasn't it." Kuro spat. "Now you've got Marie in who knows what type of danger. How much of an idiot are you?"
"She was with the Regions Champion, and a Gym Leader…" Percival tried to defend, but Kuro wasn't having any of it.
"Oh, then that should just reason how pathetic this stupid region's league—" Kuro snapped back.
BANG!
There was aloud metaling bang as sheet metal now covered all entrances and exits. The group was now sealed in a single room.
Percival thinking of what he saw downstairs. "If you have Ice beam on your Pokémon target the vents now. If not start breaking down the door!"
"On it!" Victoria responded.
"What the fuck is going on?!" Kuro shouted in annoyance.
"Ugh... guys, anyone else feeling sleepy…" Though it was too late.
"Uh…" Percival groaned shaking his head his head hurt. He looked at his surroundings finding himself in a small room with a single door. As he realized what had just happened, he checked and was relieved to see that he still had his Pokémon. "Wait… I still have everyone?" This confused Percival now as he realized this. Why did he have his team? If he was captured wouldn't the smart move would be taking them away? But also, thoughts of where were his friends? Where was Arclight, Ame, Adrienn, Marie, Lucille, Victoria, his other two siblings?
Click.
Percival's head turned to the door that had just undoubtedly unlocked. He had a terrible feeling about it, but it was his only choice. "Oh, I am so going to regret opening this."
He walked out into what seemed like a metallic cage. With a small hole, to release Pokémon onto a metallic field before him. The door behind him quickly locking itself. Meaning Percival had walked from one cage to the next.
"Oi! Percival is that you?" one of the last voices Percival wanted to hear called out to him.
"*It couldn't have been, Nero? *" Percival muttered to himself as he saw his older brother Kuro on the other side. In a similar cage as himself.
"What the fuck is going on?! Where the hell are we?!" Kuro asked furiously.
"Welcome." A voice called out to the two. Both looked at the screen to see a woman with light green eyes and hair. Percival recognized her as Lin the leader of Team Meteor.
"Who the hell?" Kuro questioned in the confusion.
"I understand that you and your petty shambles of acquaintances and family have come here to stop me. You never questioned the tip, neither did the tip giver question why it went so smoothly." Lin placed a small smile, looking at them through the screen. This was all just a trap. "Now we will play a game. In order to reunite with your so-called friends, you must fight them. The winner may proceed. The loser will suffer a penalty. There are no rules."
"Why?" Percival questioned at her.
"…" Lin smiled sadistically. Both Kuro and Percival stepping back as she spoke. "Two brothers once stood, their blood was thin, but bond thicker. Both showed joy and care for one another. One day their father said that they were now enemies. The younger didn't listen, but the older did. Now the brothers stand here now. Blood the only bond that you two shares. Now as the parent here, I say fight or suffer the consequences."
""…"" as Lin's words stopped, Percival and Kuro could only look at each other. There was hesitation, but things got more heated literally as the floor below their feet started to warm. Both brothers glared at each other as they tossed out their first Pokémon to the field.
"Begin." Lin smiled as the screen cut out.
"No hard feelings Percival, but I'm finding Marie and Ari and getting out of here." Kuro warned Percival. A thin black purplish lizard, the toxic lizard, Salazzle.
Percival meanwhile held his ground with his signature black and red Gardevoir. "Then you'll have to go through me. I still have friends here as well."
"I've hurt you enough as it is, but You can take a little more. Salamander, Sludge Wave!" Kuro ordered his Salazzle to attack. The Salazzle waving her tail spinning as she sends waves of purple sludge at Artemis.
"Artemis, Psychic!" Percival countered as Artemis was hit with the sludge. Artemis' eyes glowed blue as she unleashed a wave of psychic energy at Salamander.
"Gar…" Artemis smiled as she knocked out Salamander, before fainting herself due to poison.
"…" Kuro twitched, in most cases. Salamander should have been able to one-shot Artemis. But this time it was Artemis got the hit. Kuro went to his next Pokémon, a giant red tape like Pokémon with bushy flame like eyebrows.
"Dazhbog, huh?" Percival looked at the Darmanitan. Percival in countering this one chose his serpent Pokémon, the beautiful Milotic.
"Phoebe, as I should have expected…" Kuro groaned. "Dazhbog, Super Power!"
"DAR!" Dazhbog shouted as it flexed its muscles hulking Phoebe over its body and flinging her at the ceiling.
"Phoebe, crash down on Dazhbog with Surf!" Percival shouted. Phoebe shifting her serpent body in the air, summoning a tidal wave to crash down on Dazhbog.
"…" Kuro was silent, he didn't say anything as he knew out of all the Pokémon Percival had. Phoebe would be the most annoying for his. He switched to his next Pokémon. A large red-yellowish Pokémon with an egg-shaped body and pink lips. "Helen Thunderbolt!"
"Miiii!" Phoebe screeched as the electricity conducted through the metal field and her body.
"So much for your ace in the hole." Kuro smirked. Without Phoebe, Percival lost his only Pokémon who could take on Kuro's fire types. Or so he thought.
"You know Kuro, my team has changed since last we fought. Time to fly Aeros." Percival said, revealing his grey prehistoric dragon. "Rock slide!"
"Aero!" the Aerodactyl cried as it summoned a rockslide of rocks down on Helen the Magmortar.
"Tch, that false Dragon is nothing compared to a real one. Igneel!" Kuro responded, sending out one his oldest three Pokémon. The dragon born from a volcano, the Charizard.
"You know that Igneal is four times weak to rock, right?" Percival questioned, Igneel was a glass cannon as it was.
"Oh, you have no clue how wrong you are." Kuro spat, revealing a familiar ring on his dominant hand. Upon touching, ties of energy encircle Igneal. "Fire and Brimstone leaves ashes and dust. A dragon's breath will leave no such problems."
The energy encircled and brightened; the rooms temperature increased to an uncomfortable degree. Igneel's body blackened, and blue flames spilled out of his mouth. "CHAAAAAR!"
"…Well, I'll be. Father gave you his Mega Ring." Percival didn't expect that. But Percival wasn't afraid. After all he's been through, Kuro wasn't a threat, he was an annoyance. "Aeros, Rock Slide again!"
"Char." Igneel scoffed, while taking some damage, knocking away the rocks with its black wing.
"Dragon claw." Kuro commanded. with a greenish-blue draconic energy forming over his claws, Igneel flew up after Aeros slashing it down with a powerful strike.
"Don't act like Aeros' attack didn't do anything." Percival called out, even as just a fire-dragon, a rockslide still hist terribly hard. He sent out one Pokémon just to prove that. "Steel! Bullet Punch!"
"Meta!" the hulking blue metal beast roared. The Metagross shooting it's arm like a bullet at the Dragon, in aim to take it down.
"…" Though it wasn't as planned as Igneel caught the punch.
"Is that how powerful grandpa's Metagross was?" Kuro taunted. "Flare blitz!"
"CHAR!" The Charizard roared, as its body enveloped itself in blue flames. Dragging and crashing itself and steel into the walls around it. Knocking both Pokémon out.
Both trainers had only two Pokémon left. Throwing out pokeballs, each their respective Eeveelution. Percival with his usual leaf Pokémon, Vee the Leafeon. While Kuro held the fiery furball Flareon, known as Atlas.
"…" The two Eeveelutions stared at each other. A small memory from the past flickering in their eyes… a happy memory, a time when their trainers just enjoyed to battle each other. Though now both stood, ready to fight for their respective trainer.
"Vee, Leaf blade!" "Atlas, Flare Blitz!" the brothers called simultaneously.
Vee's head leaf glowing green as it slashed into Atlas. Just as Atlas overheated itself with flames covering all of its fur. Both Pokémon moved around, countering each other's movements. Trying to avoid the opposing attack. But ultimately both colliding resulting with another double KO.
""…"" Both trainers left with one Pokémon each.
"Yuki, come out." Kuro spat out throwing not the normal orange fire-type Ninetales. But it's Alolan counterpart, in all in its cold pale blue fur, it fluttering white nine tails. Kuro glared deeply at Percival having pushed this far.
"Oh, don't look at me like that." Percival glared back. "Neither asked to be put in this position. Life just made more sense since you were born before me." Holding his final pokeball, the Pokémon he picked up when first coming to Reborn. "But I'm no longer a Whitehall, that name belongs solely to you. Just like you wanted for all these years." Throwing out his Delphox, Percival didn't need Oracle's psychic abilities to see the victory in his grasp.
"…Dark pulse!" Kuro shouted in a moment of anger.
"Flamethrower." Percival said in a tone voided of emotion. Apathetic to his brother, his ex-best friend.
"Delph!" Oracle batted away the pulse of dark energy, before using its wand to engulf the Ninetales in flames.
As Kuro's final Pokémon fell. Percival's cage opened, all the while the floor of Kuro's quickly heated up, turning orange. "!"
"You won damn it, so go." Kuro spat at his brother not caring about his own situation. "You proved your stronger than me, great. But if you get Marie or Ari killed, I'm coming after you."
"I won't let that happen." Percival said to Kuro.
"Then go." Kuro said to his brother. As Percival left the room, Kuro's expression softens. Knowing Percival was out of ear shot. "I know it's far too late to worry… but please stay safe yourself…"
