They heard a moan. Elena slowly opened her eyes and sat up.

"Is Wyatt ok?" She asked tiredly.

"He's fine." Carson said coming in.

"How are you feeling?" Elizabeth asked.

"I'm fine. I'm just a little tired." Elena said.

"So when can I get out of this bed?" Elena asked hopefully.

"I want you to stay in this bed for at least till tomorrow morning." Carson said, sighing.

"Is it really safe for her to get out so soon?" Elizabeth's face was worried that that wasn't enough time.

"Not really but even if I said longer she would be out the next day. That's just her way even if she broke a bone." Carson shrugged and his sister laughed.

"Yeah, I broke a rib once and I couldn't do anyTHING for a month. It was horrible!" Elena said, remembering the pain.

"Jack, shouldn't you be on patrol?" She asked.

"I'm going to stay here for a bit." He said smiling.

"So if you're not going on patrol can I do it for you?" She asked, smiling widely.

"I'm staying here because you have to stay here. Plus, Bill will do the patrols." Jack said. Elena pouted for a second.

The next day, Elenaclimbed through the window. She lost her balance and let out a small shriek. Elizabeth ran out.

"Elena, are you ok?" She said coming to the window. Elena wasn't facing her but when she turned around she had a bundle in her room.

"Look what I found. It's a baby. WHo's is it?" Elena said. She gave it to Elizabeth.

"I have no idea. I wasn't aware of anyone having a baby." Elizabeth said.

"I'm going to send Jack and Abigail over here. I'm not going to tell him what's going on though." Elena ran off laughing. Elizabeth smiled and then took the baby inside. Elena ran into town. Again she burst into the jail.

"Elizabeth needs you." Elena said with a straight face. Jack got up and ran back with her to the house. He whipped the door open to stop in his tracks. Elizabeth was standing in the middle of the room holding the baby who was crying.

"I found her right under the window. I have no idea who her parents are. That's why we need you. Also because I don't do babies. They're loud and sticky and well my baby sister died when I was ten." Elena said quietly. No one heard her. Jack and Elizabeth were both looking at the baby.

"I'm going to go out for a walk and get Faith and Ms. Abigail." Elena said quietly.

Again no one answered. Elena mounted her horse and rode into town. She entered the cafe through the side door. Abigail and Bill were cooking for the breakfast rush.

"Elena, I'm glad to see you up and about. I'm guessing you want your usual." Bill said.

Elena nodded happy to get breakfast before telling about the baby.

"Do you know anyone around here that has had a baby recently?" She asked Abigail. No why?" The cook asked.

"Because I found one outside my window." Elena said nonchalantly.

"what? REally?"Abigail asked.

Elena nodded.

"These eggs are really good." Elenasaid wiping a napkin across her mouth.

"You say that every morning." Bill said coming back from bringing Hickam his breakfast.

"WEll, it's true every morning. Plus, I'm not a fan of what Elizabeth calls eggs but is really charcoal. Thanks Ms. Abigail for letting me chop wood in exchange for breakfast." Elenasaid getting up.

"Oh, anytime. You work hard enough to get two meals a day." Bill said.

"Can I take you up on that? And if you ever need help in the kitchen I'd be happy to help out anytime. Jack says "I spend too much time outside." Elena said wistfully.

"Of Course you can do some work for me and if you do more than chopping wood I can pay you as well." Abigail said smiling. "Also if you could walk Cody to school for a while, there are more and more people moving here now and we're pretty busy." Abigail added.

"Of course. I have to get back to the jail now and sweep it. Somebody (she looked at Bill) went hunting and didn't bother to wipe his boots on the doormat." She rolled her eyes, "Ms. Abigail, Elizabeth was also wondering if you could drop by later as well." Elena finished.

"Of course. I'll bring dinner." Abigail answered.

Elenaslowly walked out of the cafe. She saw several of the children gathered around an alley. She speedwalked to the children. She saw Cody and Robert fighting. They were rolling on the ground and the children were yelling. Elena shoved through the crowd.

"What do you two think you're doing?" She asked sternly, pushing the two boys apart.

"He said you're stupid and I told him to take it back but he wouldn't" Cody yelled.

"Robert. How would you like it if I called you stupid?" Elena asked.

"I wouldn't," Robert said.

"So how do you think other people feel?" Elena asked again.

"Sad." Robert answered.

"Good. So do you think you should continue to call people names?" Elena asked nicely.

Robert shook his head.

"Good, now go play and no more name calling." Elena shouted and smiled.

The children ran off to play. Elenanever saw the Mountie watching her closely. Walking back to Elizabeths, Bill caught up with her.

"Elena, you did a good job taking care of Cody and Robert." Bill said.

"Thanks." Elena said blushing.

"I have to go to Elizabeths." She said running into the house.

Jack was sitting on the couch with Elizabeth who was asleep. The baby was sleeping in her basket.

"Her name is Alyss Roze." Elenasaid stroking the baby's head.

"Nice name. I thought you didn't like babies." Jack whispered.

Elenastopped stroking the baby's head.

"I don't. Abigail is joining us for dinner" Elena answered, mad at herself for liking the adorable baby.

"Why don't you like them?" Jack asked softly.

"My baby sister Alyss Roze died. I prayed and prayed but she died anyway." Elena said forcefully.

"Oh, Can you go get my jacket? It's at the jail." Jack asked.

"Ok, that was really random but sure." Elena said walking out of the house.

She sprinted towards the jail. When she opened the door, Bill was letting the twins out of their cell.

"Thanks Bill, I almost forgot about them. Oh Commissioner Roberts." Elenasaid snapping to attention.
