Chapter 80- Dying Wish Still Exists

Time: ?

Location: ?

PHUUUUEEE!

A loud whistle sounded across the platform. Indicating it would soon be the time for the train to depart.

"Station Master here." The conductor said, taking a kid's pass. "Another one for Reborn City, huh?"

"…" the kid nodded, "That's right."

"They sure have been pushing that new League." The conductor responded. "Just between you, me, and the ol' battered fence post, I hear Reborn City's kind of a dump. Why anyone would wanna go there is beyond me."

"Uh… well, I'm just going to visit someone. I'm not staying." The kid continued.

The conductor raised an eyebrow. "You got family there?"

"Yeah… my father and…" The kid cleared their throat wanting to diverge the conversation. "Can I just get on? The train is going to leave soon."

"Pardon. Just one last thing." The conductor nodded his head, repeating the name on the kid's ticket. "Nero Luxen, right?"

The boy with black hair and silver eyes nodded in response. "Yeah, that's me."

As Nero rested on the seat on the train, the background faded as he left his hometown. Remembering his last conversation with his mother. How his journey to Reborn all started.

"No, I never want to be reminded of that Region." It was a stern voice, but fragile all the same. Her blonde hair was cut short, as she stood before her son.

"But, mom… Someone has to go." Nero looked at her. While somewhat defiant, Nero understood exactly why.

"Nero… I know you were young… but your father wasn't the best man." His mother, Iris, warned Nero. What the two were arguing about, the Luxen household just got notification of Sable Umbrasyl's death. With the only last known relatives being his ex-wife, they were the only ones to do the proceedings to his belongings after death.

"I know…" Nero said he barely remembered his father, but he did remember a sense of fear. More than that, the last memory he did have… his father called Nero a Demon after the death of his twin sister. "But… I want to see Lucille."

"Nero…" Iris' eyes dampened at the mention of her deceased daughter. "You can—" She bit her lips as she relented. She trembled. "You can go… But I'm… I can't go."

"Mom…" Nero said, placing a hand on hers.

"Please, Nero." His mother hugged him, "Please, be safe."

Though the reality of that wish was short-lived. Nero's entry to Reborn started quite literally with a bang. The train for Reborn City crashed into Reborn Station where Nero was the only survivor of the crash. Being the first of many events Nero Luxen would find himself in the Reborn Region.

Though Nero's Journey continued, much similar to another yet still so different. Having helped a green-haired boy with a beaded tooth necklace catch a Member of Team Meteor. Continuing to stop team Meteor on many different paths, taking PULSEs and admins alike. Making friends along the way.

Stopping some crime along the man with spiked bracelets. The one with azure with some anger problems, stalling the blow of a volcano. Having teamed up with the woman with a black and red suit, and met the little star, Anna.

Yes, they fought hard, and their results seemingly had been strong… though it eventually came crashing down. Friends had started to fall, and before they knew it, it was only Nero, Anna, and the woman with the red suit. Then soon the ill-fated boy was face to face with Lin and a three-headed beast.

"D-damn it…" Nero cursed through clattering teeth. The opponent before him was a towering unsurpassable wall… Every single one of Nero's Pokémon was taken out in a single hit. Not even his ace Absol could stop it. Nero trembled in fear as he looked at the three-headed beast.

"So this how weak this so-called one in one hundred years Absol is" Lin stood undefeated before Nero. "So weak to watch his friends die before his eyes."

"Shutup…" Nero mumbled in a voice quieter than a Whismur.

"So weak and powerless against this creature for a second time."

"…" The stung Nero as he knew this was the same Hydreigon that killed his sister. Nero in all his powerlessness and fear couldn't do a thing…

"Hydreigon, finish it. Dragon pulse." Lin stated emotionlessly.

"R-rrro…" The black Absol could barely stand as the Hydreigon charged its blast.

"I'm sorry…" Nero weakly whispered to his Absol as both were consumed by purplish energy. Pain filled his body as Nero felt the urge to scream.

"Aaaaahhhh!" A boy with black hair jolted up screaming, only to fall when trying to rest his weight on an arm that was no longer there. "Gh…" He groaned as he slowly realized he was feeling pain from the stump of his missing right arm. Feeling the pain in his body, he finally realized. "I-… I'm… alive?" it was then his memories doubled, knowing two different lives… one that was ended by Lin's Hydreigon, the other just lost an arm to that Hydreigon.

Groaning as Nero finally sat up, he looked at the dark room around him. Feeling the cold metal floor, seeing the hanging wires strewn about, and that cold flow of air… he knew where he was. It was Shade's Gym.

"Of course…" Nero groaned. "Even after all this, we're still "friends"."

"…" Apparatting from the shadows was a figure with a trench coat and a hat. Black as the shadows around the two. Two red eyes piercing in the darkness, with a pearly white smile with razor-sharp teeth. "…The Abyss is unrelenting; your will is ever unbending…"

"What a perfect line to say what a shit life I had." Nero chuckled at his pain. Putting weight on his left arm, he pushed himself off the ground. Sees a ripped and slightly singed black jacket hovering before him, five pokeballs hanging on the right side. "But you didn't save me… well most of me for nothing. What's going on?"

"Four screens foretold four souls' fortune forsaken." Shade had repeated this line to Nero.

"You mean how Corey, the Apophyll girl, the water Gym leader, and Lin's demise?" Nero tilted his head, "Sorry, but didn't that Gym leader survive?"

"Forsaken fortune, Claims misfortune." Shade indicated, staring at Nero's missing arm.

"…" Nero only rolled his eyes, "Just tell me what you need me to do."

"A fifth screen forsaken." From behind Shade, a screen lit up. Showing Percival, Lucille, and Nero fighting each other once more. "Their eyes blinded, you must awaken."

"Blinded?" Nero almost laughed it off as a joke before the image behind shifted to a familiar shed. Nero's face turned dark, dashing into the darkness cursing. "Fuck, fuck, fuck!"

"As Blight turned to white, much to attend." Shade said vanishing into the shadows as well "As it prepares for the end."

Time passed as Lucille, Percival, and Hardy were all captured by Bennett and the other members of Team Meteor. Finally, Nero arrived, at the location right behind the Glass station. Panels of glass covering the ground, giving a nice clear view of the floor below.

Two level floors where Zero and Bennett stood on a walkway, with Laura unconscious in the corner. Below that was the placed PULSE controlling four people, and three others and a Gardevoir facing off against them.

"Percival, Lucille, the bug Gym Leader, and poison boy…" Nero muttered the names of the ones being controlled by the PULSE Hypno. "Though why Luna, Radomus… Serra? Are here… I don't have a clue."

"Arooo!" There was a familiar howl, Nero turned to see the black-furred Absol companion he had.

"Yeah, this will be difficult Grim." Nero stroked the Grim's head with his left hand. "But from what it looks like Cain and Shelly have been taken out by those three. Well, that's certainly a type of annoyance out of the way. But still far from easy…"

"…" Grim grunted silently, flashing blue across its eyes looking at Nero.

"Pffff…" Nero sighed in annoyance looking for a solution from all the possibilities. "Well… this could be considered a "win". Though getting down there is still a pain." After ripping the belt of pokeballs from his side, he whipped the pokeballs off the belt. "Everyone. Time to cause some chaos."

there was the collective echo of Nero's Pokémon.

"First this glass, Izanami Ice beam, Hades focus Flamethrower on the same spot. Hela, ready for a surprise attack. Orcus I'm on you." Nero grabbed onto his Hydreigon with his only hand. "Grim, Raven, Night Slash count of three," Nero commanded his team. Having already seen through Bennett's Ariados Web strategy. Too bad there was more than one way to break the glass. No matter how reinforced it is, superheating and supercooling will break even the toughest of metals. "One. Two. Thr—"

"Just what are those trainers made of…" Serra sighed as her Froslass hit the ground.

"Providence, I suspect." Radomus grimaced as his precious Gardevoir reverted from its Mega form.

"I see…" Luna looked on in worry, the trio's power was nothing in face of their opponents. "So, in the end, it still hasn't been enough."

"Percival and Lucille perform even better than I expected," Bennett smirked at the mind-controlled pair's unstoppable power. "Perhaps—"

Cccccrrraaasssshhhh! Shattter!

Following the loud crash, it was followed by the rain of glass from above. With five visible Pokémon jumping down with the glass. The boy riding his Hydreigon landed on the same walkway as Bennett and the man who lost his two other selves, Zero. "Been a while, hasn't it?"

"Y-you! How are you alive!?" Zero shouted first, surprised to see Nero alive after the Devon aftermath.

"What? You give me a premature burial without seeing my body?" Nero smirked in a mocking tone.

"Brother!" Luna from below shouted in genuine happiness to see Nero.

"Ah, perhaps we aren't quite finished yet." Radomus smiled at the surprise appearance of Nero.

"Nero, are you here to ruin everything again?" Zero claimed in a falsetto… almost mimicking the voice of someone else. Before switching his pitch to another. "Why else would Nero have come here?"

"…" Nero was slightly taken aback at Zero's madness. While having their consciousness fused together, Zero definitely didn't take Lumi and Eve's departure well.

"Give them BACK!" Zero finally snapped. "Give them back... Give them back..." With that taken as a command, Lucille and Percival sent out Pokémon to fight Nero. "You took them away... Why did you take them away? Do you have any idea how quiet it is without them? Do you? Do you? Do you? Do you? DO YOU?!"

"Everyone! Counter attack! Hela take down that damned Volcarona!" Nero shouted to his Pokémon, all that knew how to fight autonomously without Nero's orders. With battle fighting, it was easy for Nero to look Zero in the eye and said. "So, you're gonna blame me, huh? Fine." Nero accepted that hate, but not the only one who was guilty of the loss of Lumi and Eve. "But I have just as much blood on my hands as you. I gave fair warning in what I'd do, and you were too stubborn to listen."

"…" Zero bit his lip staring at Nero.

"You want to call me a monster for what I did? Go straight ahead, but try to look in the mirror as well." Nero growled, "Cause I've seen your history. You were just a low-level grunt before Lumi and Eve came into it, not even that good. You must've hated that I came into the picture to prove myself superior to you. Enough to risk the only good thing you had going."

"Shut… up" Zero held his hands over his ears trying to block Nero out.

"I think that's enough Zero." Bennet countered, looking at Nero somewhat impressed. "I could commend you for surviving against Lin, but that's hardly necessary."

"Why, because you're gonna take control of me?" Nero glared at Bennett. Controls were just right nearby. It's a gamble to see if Nero could get them away from Zero as it was.

"No, rather, you've never really known failure, have you?" Bennett commented to Nero. "Maybe—"

"Bwaa ha ha!" Nero burst out with a smile as he heard that, the best thing he's heard since losing his right arm. Before that smile turned cold, glaring again at Bennett. "Not knowing failure? What are you going to say I… No, not just me, but Percival and Lucille had something like a privilege of strength?" seeing Bennett's silence, Nero sneered. "Don't give me that crap. Who the hell are we to be privileged? You're looking at three teens who were forced to become strong, not because we wanted to. But because they needed to." Nero pointed at Percival and Lucille. "A boy raised and abused in an elitist family. A girl desperate to help her friends, only to find she has a brother on the enemy team and failed to save him." Point his thumb at himself, "Then you have me. You've claimed me a "Golden Child" previously, sure, I'm strong… But that's because of the hell I crawled out of when I was barely 8 years old. Much different from you, a boy born into a cushy life of a Gym leader's son. A man who's cheated his way to the top has no right to say he's strong. Even now can you say you're strong? All you've done is stroke your egos using a power that's not even yours."

"Shut—" Zero was about to shout as Nero but was cut off

"Zero." Bennett stopped him. "You let your emotions get in the way of your outcome. Nero is one who takes advantage of those emotions. Until you learn to set ambitions aside and truly focus on yourself and your goals, you will never change, and in turn, never win against Nero."

"…" Nero rolled his eyes, quickly to his Pokémon. Even if they're hypnotized, Percival and Lucille are still strong. He had to go back to directing his Pokémon before they started to lose… though the odds were clearly not in his favor.

"Did that missionary teach you that?" A call down below, the mother of Bennett, Serra, asked.

"No mother," Bennett answered, knowing the truth of Nero's words. "That man has done little more for me than place me in footsteps my feet are not fit to fill. Even now, I understand that I cannot hope to fully live up to the title of Elite Four. In realizing this, I learned to step back and take a more serious approach to self-improvement. I believe the results should speak for themselves."

"The results don't speak louder than you still sitting on the wrong side of the coin." Serra continued to scold her son.

"Is it wrong to return one's debts?" Bennett called back down to his mother.

"The end of a means does not make its meaning end." Radomus countered Bennett's question. "Are you sure you are not running from your own choices?

Bennett twitched and called to his ally. "Zero, this has dragged on for far too long already! If you truly want to make yourself useful put them all to sleep already so we can move on!"

"Yeah, go and prove that Eve's inventions are better than you once again!" Nero tried to buy time by taunting Zero.

"…" Zero glared at Nero but resigned. "Got it… You'll all be out of our way for good now."

"You won't…" The room seemed to darken slightly, as the Reborn Region's famous Gossip Gardevoir spoke. Her eyes glowed with black energy…

"Gardevoir?" Luna checked on the companion that was on the bottom floor with Radomus and Serra and her. The Gardevoir had done her best, but Percival and Lucille were extremely strong. "You are already injured from that fight; there is no need to push yourself further."

"They would put Master to sleep… Toss him aside and never let him wake up again… Maybe dispose of him outright after what he did… I'll…" the area around Gardevoir seemed to flash. Nero's eyes became worried as a dark void seemed to form overhead. "I'll never, ever let that happen!"

"Shit… Guess it's plan B…" Nero stumbled along the railing, catching it with his left hand. Muttering, "Euphie… you better have a plan…"

"What is she doing…" Serra looked on in shock as the darkness formed over their heads.

"As you may know, Gardevoir are fiercely loyal to their Trainers. It is said that they will do anything in their power to protect their Trainer," Luna explained with a grimace. "Even if it costs them their own life."

"Gardevoir—" Radomus tried to convince his Pokémon another way…

"Don't try to stop me!" Gardevoir shouted with every second the ball of void growing…

"Rather than doing something dramatic—though I know you are such a fan of that—" Radomus continued to try to convince his Gardevoir otherwise. "Let us have faith in the world and our other companions."

"Who is left?! Who can stop Percival and Lucille?" Gardevoir shouted, even with his best-efforts Nero was most likely going to fail. "Who won't just be put to sleep?!"

"Gardevoir, please…" Luna said worriedly.

"No, this is the only way!" Gardevoir shouted defiantly. "I'll destroy that machine altogether! This is my Purpose!"

"This is not your—" Radomus was cut off.

"Yes! It is! To make sure you live on—" Gardevoir said with bated breath. "All those years ago… this is what she asked me to do."

With that remark, Radomus' eyes went wide. "She—"

"No harm will come to your master, Gardevoir. You have my word!" Bennett shouted down to Gardevoir trying to placate her.

"You think we can believe you after everything?!" Gardevoir shouted in retaliation. Bennett did not have the best track record.

"He will sleep, and nothing more." Bennett continued. "When it is over, he will wake. I do not wish to see you hurt either."

"LIAR!" Gardevoir shouted with psychic waves increasing in the air. "After what you've done to Luna, Lucille, Percival, and what Team Meteor intends to do after this… Do you want to make allowances now!? I'll never believe that!"

"Tch." Bennett clicked his tongue as his attempts failed.

"This energy…" Serra was wide-eyed as the void was taking shape.

"In most dire of circumstances, it is said that Gardevoir can use all of its power to go so far as even creating a small black hole."

"That's right!" Gardevoir smiled riding the high of adrenaline. "No matter how strong that PULSE may be, I can erase it altogether!"

"Zero!" Bennett shouted trying to do anything!

"I can set this right…" Gardevoir huffed from the rampant psychic energy. "and I will!"

"Let the girl go; seize Gardevoir before it's too late!" Bennett shouted saying to release shelly to take control of Gardevoir.

"On it—" Zero tried only to get tackled by Nero.

"Oh, no you don't. You're not winning this!" Nero shouted in pain as he hit zero with his right shoulder.

"Master—Whatever happens, please remember, I will always love you more than she, or anyone else, ever could." Gardevoir spoke her final words as the room became close to pitch black.

"ZERO!" Bennett shouted.

"I've got it!" Zero shouted pushing Nero away. Pressing buttons releasing Shelly from the grasp. "Are we too late?!"

"Her energy is spiraling out of control…" Bennett feared the worse and shouted. "Everyone, get out of here!"

"Fuck…" Nero cursed as he couldn't get up…

"What about the others?!" Serra shouted. Talking about Cain, Percival, Lucille, Nero, and Shelly.

"There's not time—ugh, Volcarona!" Bennett called to his firebug, which was holding the Sapphire Bracelets. "Go already!"

Boom.
