Adeptus Mechanius Analysis: M6 G/GNR "Spartan Laser"
The las-based weapon system designated M6 G/GNR or better known by its more informal name the "Spartan Laser" is a heavy weapons system developed by the First as a alternative heavy weapons system to deal with heavy vehicles and such other enemies.
Believed to of been developed in the age of Insurrection as a alternative to combat unreliable supply lines, the Spartan Laser hold little in common with our modern las-weapons other than its charge-pack technology that allows four-to-five shots before reloading. It instead using alternative system that are, thankfully whilst understood, have rarely been used.
The laser production system consists of four-to-eight (depending on model) smaller, but no less powerful projectors that are focused into what we have dubbed the 'charge-focus chamber' which accumulates the projected lasers and focuses it into one heavily charged beam that equals and in a number of cases surpasses the power produced by a las-cannon. This however comes with the drawback of a slow fire rate and a high level of maintenance, once again however, the weapons system has become extremely popular and has had many seek its production.
The damage these Spartan Lasers can produce is not to be taken lightly with them reported to have destroyed Astartes Rhinos in a single volley. However the system isn't without flaw, considered too accurate by some the Spartan Lasers folly comes from the fact of the reaction time of its wielder and time to fire. Although completely capable of destroying many quick moving vehicles, has a tendency to miss thanks to it users poor aim or incapability to keep target on such fast moving targets such as skimmer or ever fighter craft. But against slow moving targets such as tanks or in the hands of those with high reaction times such as the Spartans or Astates themselves the weapon truly becomes devastating.
Historically speaking the weapon has a long history before the Second Covenant. Used through out both the Insurrection and the Human-Covenant war the weapon was both feared and respected throughout its service, it also supposedly also had a small revival of use during the the Bitter Whispers by under equipped minor worlds trying to survive the onslaught brought to them by the Perpetuals. As of this modern time the Spartan Laser has become a feared and respected weapon once more, being primarily used by the First and the forces of the Imperium the weapon has become synonymous with Human heavy weapons, with many a Xeno's and Heretic nicknaming the weapons the "sun gun".
As this weapon has be deemed 'facta per hominem' a number of Factoriums have begun production of the system. And with the Astra Militraum making it clear that they wish to adopt this weapon on mass with other parties looking to perhaps as well adopting the platform, it will not be surprising to see this weapon become common in the future.
