Knuckles thought about that day, just after freeing Sonic out of pity, he ran off to a dangerous path without paying attention.
"Ugh, geez Sonic is so secretive. Though, he has been behaving 'different' around me since that day. But why?" Knuckles asked himself
Flashback:
Right after releasing Sonic out of pity, the cobalt hedgehog speeds off to a dangerous path as Knuckles groaned.
"Well, we better hope he's not going to be mad at us for leaving him in a force field with Eggman." Knuckles muttered as he followed Sonic in a hurry.
It took until he sees Sonic huffing and muttering how they do this to him over a snarky comment.
Even though it was true, Sonic did put him in the cage.
Once Knuckles caught up with him he sees Sonic going to an unstable path.
Sonic didn't notice Knuckles behind him. But all of a sudden, Sonic took one wrong step on an unstable piece of ground, before the path collapsed and he was going to fall down as he screamed.
"SONIC!" Knuckles shouted before he rushed to him and grabbed his hand.
One pull, and Sonic was instant pulled onto Knuckles chest and into his arms.
Sonic had eyes closed right for a few seconds before he sees Knuckles looking at him.
"Are you alright Sonic?" Knuckles asked in concern.
At that moment, Sonics heart began to beat rapidly. He remained silent as his face started to turn a deep crimson red.
He gazed into Knuckles lavender eyes while the sun shined behind the red echidna.
Looking at Knuckles made Sonic paralyzed and he couldn't answer him.
"Wh-What? This is... What is happening? T-this strange feeling, what the heck is it?" Sonic thought to himself as he felt his face turned even more red.
"Sonic are you okay?" Knuckles asked but Sonic said nothing.
"Eheheh. You are not going to be mad at us for leaving you in the force field with Eggman right? I mean it be worst if you were trapped with Fiona Fox." Knuckles said 'trying to lighten the mood'.
Sonic was still looking at Knuckles without a word.
Knuckles looked at Sonics red face in concern.
"Are you sick or something?l Knuckles asked 'now closer to Sonics face'.
"Here let me feel your head Sonic." Knuckles said 'placing a right hand on the blue hedgehogs forehead.'
That made Sonics heart beat more faster as he turned more red.
"What is happening?! Why can't I stop?!" Sonic thought to himself in a panic.
That was when he fainted into Knuckles arms and lost consciousness.
"Sonic! Are you okay?" Knuckles asked the unconscious hedgehog.
"He must've fainted. Maybe he feels a little hot. I should get him back to the shack." Knuckles said 'picking up Sonic in his arms and carrying him 'bridal style' to the shack.
Flashback ends:
Knuckles groaned while looking at the sky.
"What on earth has gotten into him?" Knuckles asked himself.
Meanwhile with Sonic:
The blue hedgehog was sitting near the window as he sighed deeply.
"Why couldn't I just tell him? Ever since that day, he... He was irresistible to never look at." Sonic said to himself.
Sonic thought back on that day; after Knuckles dropped off Sonic at the shack while he was still unconscious, Knuckles watches out for him until Sonic woke up.
flashback:
Sonic groaned as he came around. "Sonic?" A familiar voice called to him.
He opened his eyes as he looked around and felt something wet on his forehead.
"Ugh, What happened?" Sonic asked himself.
"You almost got fell to your death and I saved you. But then you got so hot, you fainted." A familiar voice said.
Sonic turned his head to see Knuckles sitting down. Once again, his heart started best again. He softly and quietly gasped as his face 'once again' turned a deep red.
"Sonic? Your face is turning red again." Knuckles told Sonic.
"Uhh...Is it? I uhh...I didn't notice." Sonic said nervously.
That was when Sonic gasped 'just hearing his tone of voice'.
"Wait, why am I nervous around him? In fact, WHY THE HECK I AM ACTING LIKE THIS AND WHY IS MY FACE RED?!" Sonic thought as his mind raced.
A silent moment was between them, the only noises were the wind and Sonics heartbeat.
He shuttered as Knuckles got closer to him and held his hand.
"Hey don't worry. You just need to rest and you will be all better." Knuckles said with a smile 'with a gleam of hoping Sonic doesn't get mad at him and the gang for leaving him in the force field with Eggman'.
"Uhh, Yeah uhh...sure. Rest." Sonic replied to his best friend as he looked down without turning his head.
"Y-You're not gonna be mad at us for leaving you in the force field with Eggman are you?" Knuckles asked nervously.
"W-Well I-I won't be mad at you considering you L-let me out in the first place!" Sonic said with panic in his tone with sweat on his face while looking like he was trying to hide something'.
Knuckles blinked and looked dumbstruck for a moment.
"Okay. I'll come to check on you later. Stay in the hammock." Knuckles said happily as he walked off.
Sonic stayed silent when he tried to reach out for him.
"Wait, why am I acting like I wanted him to stay?" Sonic softly asked himself.
He put his hand down as he sighed deeply. He felt the rag on his forehead while looking confused.
"This is weird. What is wrong with me? I doubt it's the heat." Sonic said to himself.
flashback ends:
Sonic sighed deeply and looked at the sky.
"I haft to admit it but, Knuckles is kinda cute when he's confused. Lovable red boy." Sonic said lovingly to himself.
"I just hope my big sister doesn't get jealous considering she dated Knuckles." Sonic said to himself.
