Here's to a new era of learning from past mistakes. I realized I adore fanfics, but I needed to stop following canon. I need to enjoy what made adore Chameleon so much.

Mika all but giggled as he walked into the library, seeing the waves of glorious knowledge filling the space made him almost euphoric. Even if he restricted to just genin knowledge, he was still able to access a ton of information. Twenty whole shelves, and that was just the ninja aspects. Not even including the civilian knowledge base, such as books on botany and so on. He knew what he wanted, it was an easy thing to figure out.

Within ten minutes he had five books and six scrolls. The books were on botany, anatomy, history, the Seven Swordsman of the Mist, and of course a tome on chakra control. The scrolls, the more important pieces, were on six precious facets.

Advanced Leaf Style Taijutsu

Apprentice Level Leaf Style Kenjutsu

The Body Flicker

Elemental Manipulation ( just the basics and only the theory)

Genjutsu Practice

Advance Conditioning

With these tomes in hand, he felt comfortable getting his genin life started.

"Better taijutsu to build on the academy's style. Swordplay to give my stubby arms some range. Body flicker to build his speed and versatility. Conditioning to help build his body up. Elemental manipulation theory for later. Genjutsu practice to give me a chance in battle, since I have no clan jutsu to build of of. Oh and a book on chakra control to work on that, since it is key to all aspects of ninja life." Smiling, he hurried away, eager to get started. After stopping by his house to drop of all his books bar the one on chakra control, and to pick up a special package he bought six months prior, he hurried to his personal training ground.

South of the village, it was in a large clearing with a pond, ringed by trees. No one used it, but him that is.

Sitting down, the started to read the scroll on kenjutsu, all the while pulling out the special package. A tanto he bought with his own, for this exact purpose. "Okay, today I'll focus on kenjutsu and taijutsu. Tonight I'll read up on the chakra control and conditioning and adjust my training methods to incorporate it all. We have to wait for three days before we can start our missions, so our paperwork can go through and we can get paid. I have until then to get things set... I wonder what I can learn?"

Sighing, he stood.

"Time to practice... I need this, I need to become great, or I will die in obscurity. A fate more terrible I cannot imagine."

And with that, his training began.

For the next three days, he recreated his training methods. He would buy weights to bolster his speed and strength, but only light weights. He would practice his new ken and taijutsu katas for hours each day, slowly carving out a path for his development. He even learned the body flicker, which was only difficult for the raw speeds it forced on him. Once he did that, he would use it in circuits with the replacement to get use to the speed and to get it battle ready.

After two days, on the third, he started to practice the chakra control exercises he learned.

The Tree walking took all but twenty minutes, and he was climbing the trees as easily as walking. Water walking took about an hour, but soon it was the same and he was practicing his katas osn the water or trees, all to bolster his pitiful reserves.

He also started to meditate, as that was key to developing sensory skills, chakra awareness and control. It also bolstered reserves, which was how he learned how minute his reserves were.

With all of that, he was finally ready to meet his sensei once more and take on his first D rank mission.

Chapter end, tell me what you think in the reviews.

This was a joy to write.
