I will start to shift things in the next chapter, where it comes clear he has his own path not just canon.
That being said, he will still affect canon, he is still a part of this world he cannot just not change things.

"Why Aoba? Why should I spend my few, rare hours alone to help an unknown genin?" Yugao asked, looking at the young man that as a good friend of Hayate.

The man sighed. "Mika was placed on a Dead Team, but is insanely motivated, he taught himself tree and water walking in mere hours." She stopped still, that took serious talent or at least a lot of drive. "He managed, with a mere few days of training, to get good enough to cut me and cast a skillful, if meager, genjutsu on me. He even managed to be strong enough willed to fight back my mental powers, I cannot read his mind in battle. I cannot help him much, I have too much to do with TI, but you can at least help guide him into a better place academically and skill wise."

She groaned, knowing he had won her over already. "Fine, I'll go and check him out at the least."

"Great-" He poked her forehead before she could stop him, forcing her to know the boy's chakra signature in full. It was spritely, powerful, and mostly spiritual. "Now you should be able to find him."

Giving him one last glare, she nodded. "Don't do that again." And then she was gone, moving away toward where she sensed the boy's chakra in the distance. "He's training, that's good." She felt the resonating chakras, modulating and showing the potency of his efforts. "I wonder, what is he doing though?" She found him, the boy, slicing through imaginary enemies with impossible grace for his age. All on the pond he was nearby. "He's good, not amazing, but good. His movements, though graceful, are a bit stiff... he is not accustomed to the arts of kenjutsu quite yet... that is easily fixable."

The boy, to her pleasure, vanished then, suddenly at her side slicing at her with his blade. She easily blocked it with a kunai, pushing up and palming his chest to send him flying back.

Still, he just flipped onto his feet and got into a low stance. "Why are you watching me?"

"Are you a sensor type?"

"No more than anyone else, but I am very good at feeling eyes on my body."

She nodded, pleased. "A good skill to have, not many have cultivated that talent. My name is Yugao Uzuki, Aoba asked me to help you. Train and spar with you a few times a week to bolster your skills. I was hesitant, I admit but watching you train here, and your reaction... well, it won me over."

He nodded, eyes warm. "Where do we start?"

"Sparring, get your form and skill up. It will help with intergration and development. I will also be showing you some tricks and tips to use your powers better. Tracking and sensory skills, that yes can be learned." His smile made her feel quite pleased. "I think in a few months, you could easily trounce most chunin, I'd place you at around chunin level already. But that's getting ahead of ourrselves, let's work on your skills first and then make an assesment." She twirled her kunai. " Now, why don't we see where you truly land, shall we?"

What she discovered was that she was right, the boy was about chunin level and far more capable than his reports had said. Why they put him on a dead team, she had no freaking idea...

But with her help, he would crush the exams when they came around in just three months and she would have bragging rights for years to come.
