Waluigi rummaged through the pile of scrolls and pulled out the map. It was probably one of the most beautiful maps he had ever seen if anything. He moved his finger across it to see where was where and one of the continents glowed up and displayed a message.
To he who holds this map, this will guide you through a great quest. Listen carefully, for great danger lies ahead.
"This will guide you through most of it. It also displays information on the back about the area you are in and how to survive and get yourself around" said King Boo. "Take this" he said as he yielded a duffel bag. It had armour, weapons, tools, clothes and enough food to last for a while. It was the full package. Waluigi opened it up and put on the armour, pondering as to when he might need to use it.
"I wish you all the best on your adventure. But remember. Until the stone is returned to it's rightful place, disaster and chaos will continue to plague the world forever" said King Boo. "And remember to use the right warp pipe. Over the bridgeIt's called the Forest of Illusion for a reason".
Waluigi lit up a cigarette as he left King Boo's Mansion. Although his wife would content that it was a bad habit, it really helped put him at ease and calm down. It was an escape. This was going to be a long, long slog. he thought to himself.
Waluigi had never had an easy life. Ever since a child he was plagued by failure and ridicule. He and Wario rarely ever saw their father, relying on their drug addicted mother who just made enough to get by. Life was very hard in Mushroom City if you were at the bottom of the food chain. Boiled Hound and Shroom Cabbage Stew every night was typical, and an incident with the hoodlums at school or a bad grade would almost always lead to a beating. One day Waluigi came down with a terrible sickness, and buboes and boils erupted all over his body. When his father learned how much the bill would cost he ripped Waluigi out of bed and cut one of his buboes open with a scalpel. This led his mother to decide she'd finally had enough and in response he brutally beat her and left. That was the last Waluigi would see of his father. One days news hit him that he died in a car crash while intoxicated. Despite their very poor relationship, this deeply saddened Waluigi.
Their mother got clean at some point and decided to go back to college. She got a masters degree in urban planning and made much more from this. During this time they would go on family vacations and both of the brothers went to college as well. These were the happiest months of Waluigi's life.
A year later however, just as the brothers were finishing their degrees, their mother would become afflicted with a rare and incurable cancer. The last few months were spent with her in palliative care. After she passed away, Waluigi became deeply depressed again and began drinking excessively to cope with his loss. One night, he was fired and got so drunk he ended up being robbed on the way back to his apartment then passed out on the sidewalk and split his head open. Wario nursed him back to health and got him in a rehabilitation program and began to spend more time with him. The brothers relationship strengthened, but Wario had to leave for long shifts in the mines. Eventually he worked his way up and started a mining business with his brother. Waluigi finally got a chance to be go higher, and the drastically increased productivity boosted Waluigi's self esteem.
It was during this time that Waluigi met Rosalina. On a rather lucrative trip out to Isle Delfino, Waluigi met Rosalina and the two began clicked instantly. Their relationship intensified and eventually the couple would get married, with his best man Wario throwing an epic bachelor's party. Waluigi would go on to explore the vastness of the cosmos with Rosalina.
And now this. Just after my life starts to look up for once, this just comes and fucks it all up.
Waluigi let out a deep sigh as he crossed the bridge over Frozen Lake where King Boo had just been fishing. He looked around for a warp pipe. There was a few coloured warp pipes scattered around but he found the secret red one behind a tree.
They were symbolic in the Mushroom Kingdom as a means of transportation and exploration. They still had cars, trains, planes, spaceships and even warp whistles but warp pipes were just so convenient and fun!
In a few seconds Waluigi was transported to the airfield where King Boo had a plane waiting for him.
"Heya Waluigi" said a joyful voice.
"Parakarry?" said Waluigi
"Yup, it's me. I'm a pilot now. Was always my dream. Makes great money and the plane just flies so smoothly" said Parakarry.
"Hi buddy, how ya been" said Kooper who also happened to be in the plane. Waluigi sat in the middle with Koops.
"Hey Koops" said Waluigi.
"Hi" said Kooper. Koops was always a timid and quiet guy, but once you got to know him he was a very loyal and really good hearted man.
"3...2...1...TAKEOFF" shouted Parakarry as the plane rushed forwards and fleed into the skies.
"AARGGH STOP STOP" said Kooper as he was bouncing around the back. He had forgotten to put his seatbelt on. Parakarry stopped doing loops and twists and returned to a normal altitude.
"It's so beautiful from up here" Kooper said gleefully. Then without warning, something hit the left wing and the plain was sent flying downwards. Waluigi turned to see Bowser. Some hammer bros were up on his ship and he had fired a Torpedo Ted at the airplane.
"RAW HAW HAW! DID YOU SERIOUSLY THINK I WAS JUST GOING TO LET YOU TAKE THE EMERALD OF PEACE? NO! IF YOU WANT IT, YOU'LL HAVE TO TAKE IT FROM ME! RAW HAW HAW! THE KINGDOM SHALL BE MINE!" shouted Bowser.
"NO! I CAN'T DIE! THERE'S SO MUCH I HAVEN'T DONE" wailed Koops
Meanwhile, in the Mushroom Kingdom
"So let me get this straight-you sent my husband, my beloved husband on a extremely dangerous mission all because of some crackpot prophecy!" Rosalina yelled angrily.
"P-princess Rosalina, we w-were only trying to serve the best interests of the kingdom" stammered Toadsworth.
"The best interests of the kingdom! Why didn't you send Mario or Luigi instead. There is no greater hero than Mario Mario, after all. He has rescued you countless times from Bowser" yelled Rosalina.
"For your information, my husband has two children to attend to. We simply cannot risk his life anymore. Luigi has vowed to fight Bowser for us should his reign of terror afflict us again" Peach said sternly.
"And yet you haven't given him anything to help him, no means of food or transportation, no supplies, no army" yelled Rosalina.
"King Boo has agreed to supply Master Waluigi with all of the supplies he needs, my princess. He has already arranged a flight to take him to Ice Land to begin his journey" said Toadsworth
"ICE LAND! Have you any idea how treacherous that is? It is the coldest continent on the planet, the temperatures down there can reach temperatures I see in my observatory. It is ravaged with polar bears, ice dragons not to mention the ice bro clans that regularly attack and raid villages" yelled Rosalina.
"I am confident that Waluigi will succeed on this mission" said Mario.
"M-Master Mario, I'm afraid we have some very dire news about Waluigi" stammered Toadsworth. "Bowser has shot the plane down and stolen the Emerald of Peace" said Toadsworth. Mario let out a deep sigh.
"Well it looks like I was right" Rosalina began.
"Uh uh uh Mario's not going anywhere. I cannot risk his life, or the interests of the kingdom. Waluigi will have to go and take it himself" said Peach.
"But it does risk the interests of the kingdom you fool! Until the Emerald of Peace is returned disaster and chaos will continue to plague the kingdom. If anything he will try and use it to take over your kingdom" yelled Rosalina.
"Nothing will be taken further with this matter. End of discussion. And if I were you I would speak to me more politely" Peach snarled.
It was at this point that Rosalina waved her wand and cast Peach inside a bubble. Peach tried to run but it was too late.
"If you want to see your wife again, you will get my husband back. Until then I shall take her as my prisoner" said Rosalina.
Back on Boo Moon Island.
The plane hit the ground with such force that all four of them were violently thrown around the plane. For a moment, Waluigi truly thought they were going to die. The plane was buried deep in the soil, but Waluigi managed to escape out the back of it.
I'm alive. Your alive.
Waluigi looked up to see a truly gruesome sight. Koops had used an ejector seat but didn't deploy his parachute in time. He had been impaled on a light post. Waluigi promptly vomited after seeing this.
"NOW! GET HIM" boomed a voice. Waluigi turned around just in time and managed to slice open a young soldier. His bowels were literally ripped from his body. There were four more of them deploying from a nearby helicopter. Waluigi jumped out of the way as a bullet bill went right through a tree. He ruffled through his pocket to find a knife and threw it. It lodged right into the brain of another soldier. He opened his duffel bag to find a shield and covered himself as a barrage of bullet bills bombarded him. Quick on his feet, Waluigi grabbed the bill blaster and killed the other two. However, he was too late as they had already killed Parakarry and Kooper was nowhere to be found. He grabbed a walkie talkie from the pocket of the last of them with a knife to his throat, forcing him to call in for support.
"Come in, commander, over. We need assistance, he's just killed two of us" said the trooper before Waluigi killed him.
The helicopter hovered down as the Koopa Kommander searched to no avail. He was then horrified to see the very soldier who had just called him with his eyes dribbling out of their sockets, a knife through his throat attaching him to the pole.
Waluigi grabbed a stick and lubricated it with some petrol before plugging it into the fuel tank of the chopper and setting it off. He ran as fast as he could and ducked before it exploded, the flames missing him by only an inch.
Whew. That was close. I missed death by the skin of my teeth.
Waluigi lit up his cigarette, nearly collapsing to the ground. He reached for the map and took a look at it.
So this thing really does know what it's talking about. Great danger lies ahead, hmm, what now.
Waluigi moved his finger along the map and it changed to show the map of the continent he was on. He was on Boo Moon Island.
To exit Boo Moon Island, you must depart from Hairy Harbour. However, a bridge bigger than any other awaits you.
Shit. Another near death experience I suppose.
Waluigi closed the map and took off to camp. He'd need somewhere to stay for the night. He ruffled through the duffle bag for a crossbow and shot a large raven bullseye in the heart. That would be his dinner for the night. It wouldn't be the nicest dinner, but it was dinner. After all, he was more than used to eating cheap meat his whole life. He skinned it and put it on a spit over a fire he started and set up the tent under a tree.
While his dinner was cooking, Waluigi took some time to appreciate the beautiful night sky. As if he would ever have had the luck during his youth in the rough, decomposing never ending insanity vortex of Mushroom City. Even the royal chronicles of Koopa's Keep and the constant cartel wars of Shell Slopes were nowhere near as as bad. The Boo Moon shone brighter than any other and the stars were all aligned so nicely.
Meanwhile, in Koopa Keep, Darkland.
"GRAAAH! WHAT! YOU MEAN TO TELL ME HE IS STILL ALIVE AND AT LARGE OUT THERE AND HE STILL HAS THE EMERALD OF PEACE" boomed Bowser. He scrunched the Hammer Bro up into a ball and bounced him and slam dunked him in one go.
"Your grace, with all due respect, it was no fault of his. Besides, don't you think we should focus on taking out that wretched red plumber and his cowardly brother first than this lost cause" said Kamek.
"I suppose your right. But that lost cause won't back down. I know more of him than anyone else. And remember the prophecy. There will be a day where the world is condemned to doom until a mighty hero larger than the largest will return the Emerald of Peace to it's rightful place. And cometh his comeuppance, he will seek wrathful vengeance on those who stood in his way" grumbled Bowser.
It had been a long, cold night and Waluigi was still well sore and tired. But an ever colder night awaited him, and he had to get going if he wanted to get that emerald back to where it belonged. He packed up and took off for Hairy Harbour. It would be a long, twelve hour walk but he eventually made it there.
And what a delight it was. They clearly called it Hairy Harbour for a good reason. It was in a midst of a particularly bad storm. Waluigi had it in it's sights; at five thousand feet, it was one hell of a big baka bridge. He began to cross it slowly. Beneath him were freezing, shark infested waters and the sharpest, most razor rocks he had ever seen. He made it to the middle of the bridge before suddenly, and at this point not to Waluigi's surprise, the bridge snapped and collapsed beneath him.
"OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH SSSHHHIIITTT!" he bellowed as he plunged to the deep depths of the water below. Luckily he didn't land on many rocks but the current was starting to catch up to him and sharks would soon sense his presence. Fortunately for Waluigi, there were rocks beneath his feet and he used them to scale his way to the harbour. He checked his pockets to see if the Emerald of Peace was still there. To his luck, it was as he had zipped his pockets beforehand. He walked over to the silky shores and saw a large boat waiting for him. A familiar face popped out.
"Aaarrrggghhh matey, long time no see. Welcome aboard. I'm here to help transport you" said Admiral Bobbery. The drenched Waluigi walked inside the boat.
"Do me a favour would ya, take that anchor out for me" said Admiral Bobbery. Waluigi pulled the lever and the anchor reeled back in and they set off for Ice Land.
"Would ya like a beer? Or some fish and chips!" said Admiral Bobbery cheerfully. Waluigi had always known Admiral Bobbery to be an honest, hard working and kind man and he was a good longtime friend.
"For your troubles" said Waluigi as he handed Admiral Bobbery a golden coated sailor's hat. It was supposed to be a birthday present, but Waluigi felt now was the right time to give it to him.
"Aaarrrggghhh matey, what a good soul ya are" said Admiral Bobbery as he put it on.
"TTTAAALLLYYY HHHOOO" boomed Admiral Bobbery as he spun the wheel and they set off for Ice Land.
Meanwhile, on Yoshi's Island.
It was near chaotic in the Valley of the Capital. The tsunami had in some way at least affected most if not all of the island. Cities had been literally swept away by the powerful waves and were still swamped with water. Water and power were out in over half of the island as the nuclear power plant that supplied the island's water and power had suffered significant changes and damage. Chiefs were left distraught, Mayors and Regional Operators were resigning and the Mastery of the Island were in a state of uproar in the Island Decisions Board Room. And panic and disorder were rampant on the roads of the island.
"Order, ORDER!" shouted Yoshi. "I understand how much of a tremendous amount of stress you are under. But we need to work together".
"What should we do?, your grace" said the Island Rescue and Cleanup Coordinator.
"Get the water and power running. Order an island-wide lockdown. You will assemble ten thousand troops to send in medical supplies, rebuild as well as keep order and peace on the island" said Yoshi.
"What about the economy? It will be as swamped as the island, your grace" said the treasurer.
"Summer is coming. A specialized Hyper Harvest will be enough to keep the island on it's feet. The Shy Guy Temple City of the Skies will expand a release it's upcoming aircraft software ahead of time as well as the Quantum Entanglement Computers. And Yoshiport will supply one trillion barrels of oil, and henceforth expand the naval and air fleet and conquer the Rimround Islands. We will also enter a new atomic age and harvest fifty million tons of uranium" said Yoshi. Everyone in the room gasped.
"I know, it's alot to take in. But it is our only choice, our duty and it's what must be done" said Yoshi.
"What about Boshi? He was attempting a seizure of power on you just this morning" said the Great Master of the Military.
"I'll have his head on a pike by tomorrow morning" growled Yoshi. Boshi was, after all, his long time number one arch nemesis, superseding even Bowser. "You all can leave now" said Yoshi. As everyone was exiting the building, Yoshi stopped the Great Master of the Military.
"Great Master. I would like to have a word with you" said Yoshi as he grabbed the Great Master's shoulder.
"Yes, your grace, what can I do for you" said the Great Master.
"Have a specialized secret team sent out for Boshi. A fake head will be put on a pike" said Yoshi.
"But your grace, he is a traitor and will stop at nothing to overthrow you" said the Great Master.
"I'm well aware of that. But he is of good use to us" said Yoshi. "You may leave now".
Once the Great Master was gone, Yoshi opened up a tablet and began filming himself on an island-wide broadcast.
"Good evening, my people. I am Yoshi Yoshi, your new ruler. Due to the recent events, I have ordered an island-wide lockdown. We are currently working to repair the island's water and power system and ten thousand troops have been supplied to send medical supplies into affected areas, rebuild them and keep order and peace on the island. The naval and air fleet are being expanded, we will be conquering the Rimround Islands. And the long-loathed traitor you all know that attempted to overthrow me today, I shall have his head on a pike at the gates to the city" said Yoshi. People cheered for Yoshi everywhere, while others protested.
Well, what do you think? I promised I'd expand on Yoshi's character arc, as well as entail the transformation of Waluigi from a weak, sorrowful man to a strong, great hero. I hope you like the addition of Admiral Bobbery-he is one of my favourite characters.
