I think I'll end the battle story in the next chapter, writing the fight story is pain in the ass
4. bright spot
Elysia jumped back, tightening her bow. An arrow glowing with pink energy was released, shooting straight toward the head of the giant creature. The arrow struck directly in the creature's eye, but only produced a small flash of light before vanishing without a trace.
"I'm sure that was a perfect shot! But why didn't it have any effect?"
Oberon, moving quickly with his scythe, took advantage of the moment to attack the creature's lower body. He targeted the joint of its leg, swinging his black scythe with precision. However, his strike only left a small scratch on the creature's tough shell, which quickly healed as if it had never been wounded.
"Great. You hit the head, I hit the legs, and this creature doesn't even care. We need to find another way."
The creature let out a deep growl and then lifted one of its massive legs, attempting to crush Oberon beneath it. Oberon quickly leaped to the side, his scythe gleaming as he deflected a spray of black liquid that splattered from the creature.
"So… got any ideas, dark prince? Or should we just keep attacking until we're exhausted and become a snack?"
Oberon grunted, his eyes fixed on the creature. He observed its movements, trying to find a weak point.
Elysia tried targeting the insect's head once more, but this time she used more energy in her arrow.
The arrow struck the creature's right eye and exploded, but this time, Elysia's attack had a slight effect. The insect's eye began to regenerate, but more slowly than before.
Oberon glanced briefly at Elysia, noticing that her attack had slowed the creature's regeneration. "At least there's progress," he muttered while dodging the next attack from the giant creature.
"ktrrRrRRIiIiiaaAaaaAaAAA"
The creature growled, lifting its large body higher, casting a massive shadow over Oberon and Elysia. It then charged at them.
Oberon struggled to keep up with the creature's movements and was knocked back, landing against one of the altar's pillars. Elysia was concerned when Oberon was thrown.
"shi--"
Elysia saw Oberon's body slam into the altar pillar with a loud thud, the sound echoing around them. Her heart raced as she ran toward where he had fallen, her eyes fixed on his figure, which seemed to stagger slightly.
"Are you okay?!"
she shouted anxiously, momentarily forgetting the battle around them. Her arrow slipped from her hand as she hurried toward Oberon.
"Don't worry about me, keep attacking the insect!"
However, before Elysia could get any closer, the giant creature moved again. It jumped and crashed down with a force that shook the entire area, heading straight for Elysia.
Elysia quickly jumped back, pulling her bow and releasing another attack at the creature. Her arrow flew, striking the creature's tough shell, but it wasn't enough to stop its rapid movement.
Worried as she saw the creature almost reach her position, she prepared her next shot, targeting the area that had started to crack due to their repeated attacks.
At the same time, Oberon, who had just recovered from the hard impact, slowly rose from the altar pillar, his face frustrated but focused.
"If this creature wants to wear us out," he muttered while running toward Elysia, who was being cornered. "I won't give it the chance."
With incredible speed, Oberon returned to the battlefield, using the momentum of his insect minions to strike the creature from behind, further weakening its defenses. His black scythe gleamed, aiming at the point that had been weakened by their previous strikes.
Elysia, with determination in her eyes, readied her final strike, ensuring there was no space left for the creature to resist them any longer.
The creature charged toward Elysia with speed that was unusual for its size. Elysia leaped back, almost losing her balance as her feet nearly hit the ground.
"Damn! This creature means business," she shouted, looking at the creature that was about to crash into her.
"Dark Prince!" Elysia yelled as the creature began to raise its horns again, trying to charge with immense power. Quickly, Oberon ran toward the creature, his scythe gleaming in the dim light.
"Don't worry, I know what to do!"
he replied confidently, though their plan wasn't fully formed. With all his strength, Oberon swung his scythe at the creature's stomach, a spot that had been previously wounded.
This time, the scythe penetrated a little deeper, cutting through a thinner protective layer due to their repeated attacks. The creature let out a loud noise, thrashing as it tried to shake off Oberon's strike.
"Keep hitting the same spot!"
Oberon yelled, still holding his ground even as the creature seemed angrier.
Elysia quickly readied another arrow, this time more focused and precise, targeting the same spot on the creature's stomach. Her arrow flew fast and struck; this time, the creature had difficulty regenerating the wound.
"krrAAaiig#s#"
"At least we're making progress," Elysia said as she tightened her bow again. "We need to keep this up until it can't heal anymore."
Oberon nodded, directing his insect minions to bite again, worsening the wound.
"We won't give it a chance to recover,"
Before Oberon and Elysia could take a breath, the giant creature began to twitch strangely, collecting black fluid from its body. The liquid gathered and formed a large glowing orb in the air, as if the creature was preparing something even more terrifying.
Elysia frowned, sensing something worse was about to happen.
"What's that?!"
Oberon stared sharply
"I don't know, but it seems like this isn't over yet."
The fluid in the orb began to solidify, then exploded into small insects that were faster and more dangerous than before. Thousands of tiny insects, with sharper red horns and glossier black bodies, gathered, spreading through the air and covering the sky at an incredible speed.
"Rrrrriiiiiiiipppppp… skkkkkkkkkk…"
"Rrrrriiii.. kkkkkkk…"
"Rrrrrip…skkkkkkkkkk…"
These insects weren't just flying; they also seemed more organized. They immediately headed for Oberon and Elysia, attacking with more clever and coordinated movements. Like a well-trained swarm, they launched targeted strikes—from above, from the sides, and even sharply heading straight toward their bodies.
Oberon quickly spun his scythe, creating a vortex of black wind to try to fend off the incoming insects, while Elysia readied her bow again, shooting arrows that shone brightly. But this time, there were too many insects, moving in formations that made them nearly unreachable.
"This is getting worse, Dark Prince!"
Elysia shouted, firing arrow after arrow, trying to clear the way, but the insects swiftly dodged, moving in tightly-knit groups.
Oberon, dodging sprays of liquid from the small insects, grunted.
"We can't keep going like this. There are too many of them."
However, at the same time, he felt an opportunity to strike from the depths of the dark energy he controlled. "We need to find their weak spot, and this time, we can't afford to let our guard down."
With a swift motion, Oberon began manipulating the dark energy around him, concentrating the power into a single massive strike that could take down one of the swarms of insects.
Oberon moved his hand with precision, drawing the dark power trapped in the air around him. The thick black energy gathered in the palm of his hand, swirling like a mini tornado, ready to explode. With a soft shout, he released the energy, focusing all his strength on one point in the middle of the insect swarm.
As soon as the energy touched the first insect, a huge explosion occurred, followed by a loud booming sound. The insects struck by it instantly exploded, their bodies shattered into pieces, but the explosion didn't stop at just one insect.
The energy continued to spread, striking other insects within range, triggering a chain reaction. One by one, the insect bodies exploded, creating a growing wave of explosions.
The swarm of insects, which had previously seemed unstoppable, began to be affected. Explosion after explosion destroyed parts of their group, shaking the formation that had once been well-coordinated. Some insects were thrown in all directions, while others got trapped.
Oberon, seeing the impact of his black energy explosion, realized that they needed an even bigger attack to truly reduce the number of remaining insects. He turned to Elysia with a serious expression, his eyes sharply assessing the situation.
"Flower lady, we need to clear this area quickly! Use an area attack with massive damage!"
Oberon said, his voice firm and commanding.
Elysia, who had already started preparing her bow, nodded quickly.
"Of course, I'll send an attack that can destroy them right away!"
Quickly, Elysia drew her bow, gathering the growing pink energy at the tip of her arrow. The arrow glowed brightly, emitting a light that was almost blinding. Elysia focused all her strength into one shot, taking a deep breath before releasing the arrow. The arrow flew with incredible speed toward the sky.
As soon as the arrow reached its peak, it exploded into thousands of shards of light, quickly spreading across the entire area. Each shard of light, as soon as it touched an insect, exploded with immense power, creating a massive explosion that destroyed the remaining swarm of insects. The arrow created a rain of explosions that devastated the group of insects still left, obliterating them one by one.
Oberon watched attentively, making sure his attack had successfully wiped out most of the creatures. However, even though their numbers were starting to dwindle, a few larger and stronger insects were still holding on.
