THE PHANTOM TERMINATOR
= CHAPTER 1 =
= THE WARRIOR FROM THE FUTURE =
Before they died, my parents told me and my little sister stories of what the world once was. What it was like long before we were born. They remembered a green world, vast and beautiful, filled with laughter and hope for the future.
But it's a world I never knew. I grew up in a broken world, ruled by the machines. A world destroyed in a devasting nuclear war. Human civilization with all its cities and glory, reduced to rumble and ash. A world filled with nothing but chaos, famine, disease, despair… and death.
Skynet, a powerful AI-supercomputer build by Cyberdyne Systems, hooked into every single network across the world, was designed to protect the former United States and its allies against their enemies. But before their leaders would knew, Skynet learned so fast that it started to see not only America's enemies as a threat, but every single human on Earth.
Then, on August 29th, 2017, Skynet became self-aware and unleashed a nuclear fire across the globe, killing over 4 billion human lives. The survivors of the nuclear fire called it Judgement Day. They lived only to face a new nightmare. The nightmare in which I was born in.
Whatever was left of mankind, Skynet had built a vast army of robots in many automatic factories, programmed to kill or round up every human survivor in the world.
With mankind on the brink of complete extermination, we'd lost all hope.
But there was woman who taught us to fight and crush those robots into junk. The one who'd lead the worldwide resistance against Skynet and reclaim our world.
Her name… is Danielle Fenton.
Ruins of downtown Chicago – 2049 A.D.
Hundreds of people were forcefully pushed into a steel building. Many looked desperate, while others were afraid, knowing what was waiting for them.
The building, being one of Skynet's Human Extermination facilities, is guarded by dozens of T-800 Terminator robots and several fully automated computer machine guns placed on the roof tops.
A young 7-year-old boy, being held up by his mother, hugs her tightly while he cries "Mommy… I'm scared…!"
His mother sobs while trying to comfort her child "It'll be over soon. It'll all be over soon."
While one of the T-800 was scanning the humans behind a laser secured wall, it heard some noise from its right. When it looks, it saw dozens of RPG rockets being fired on the building, destroying all the machine guns on the roof!
Every Terminator was alerted when from the ruins of the many destroyed building of Chicago a hundred resistance fighters opened fire on the machines with their plasma riffles, destroying many of them!
The people being captive looked in shock what was happening and some ever tried to look for cover even though there was no place to find cover.
With many of the machines being destroyed, a team of resistance fighters charged at the building.
"Move! Move! Go, go, go, go!" the female 18-year-old lieutenant called to her squad before firing her plasma riffle, shooting a few Terminators to bits!
One of the squad members, being a demolition expert, placed several small bombs on the laser walls, setting them to explode in 5 seconds.
"Everybody DOWN!" the female lieutenant calls to the people and her squad. And 5 seconds later, a few pillars of the laser wall blew up, deactivating the rest of the lasers.
Another squad member contacted the others with a radio headset, and not long after, trucks arrived at the scene escorted by other cars manned by other Resistance Fighters.
The leader calls to the survivors, "Come with us if you want to live!"
Everyone, thankful that the Resistance came to help us, rushed into the transport trucks, with the woman and her 7-year-old son being the last.
While the battle was raging on inside the building, the young female lieutenant called to the demolition expert "Brandon! Bring those explosives inside! Time to put this Skynet death-camp out of business!"
"Yes, ma'am!" he calls as he and a few others carried as quickly as they could the bags filled with more powerful demolition explosives inside "Go, go, go!"
"Corporal Kowalski!" she calls to her corporal "You and your team keep your eyes on the skies for any HK's!" she then reloads her riffle and determinately walks inside the building "I got some tin cans to demolish." She then fires her plasma riffle and shoots the head of a rubber skinned outdated T-600 Terminator, covering Brandon and his team.
Several others rush inside, keeping an eye on anymore Terminators.
Suddenly, five T-800's came out from another secured room, firing at the resistance fighters, taking out several of them!
"Take cover!" the young female lieutenant calls, with her and the others looking for cover before returning fire.
A female sergeant grabs a modified EMP-grenade and throws it at the T-800's! One of them caught the grenade, looking at it with a confused look… before it exploded and unleashed an electrified shockwave, knocking it and the other T-800's out!
The female lieutenant, relieved that they were able to destroy the last Terminators in the building, looks with horror at her 3 soldiers who were killed, with one being a young girl of 14. Seeing her dead corpse, the lieutenant began to have horrible flashbacks as the dead girl reminds her of her dead little sister…
She pants with fury before taking her plasma riffle and fires like hell on the partly knocked out T-800's "You… goddamn heartless piece of FUCK!" and in a hail of plasma fire, destroyed what was left of the machines in a fit of rage "FUUUUCK YOOOU!"
When she was done, she panted, barely hearing anything "Ma'am…! We got to go…!" she couldn't hear it before knocking back to her senses as Brandon grabbed her shoulder and calls out louder "MA'AM! This place is gonna blow! We gotta go, now!"
Seeing there wasn't time for any PTSD, nods and orders "Right. Back to your vehicles, asap! Move! Let's go!"
Everyone ran out of the steel building and quickly got into their armored cars and trucks before racing out of the area.
7 seconds later… the building was destroyed in a massive explosion!
But as some look back, thinking they'd won, their sights were filled with horror when they saw 3 Hunter Killers flying towards them!
"HK'S!" the lieutenant calls from one of the trucks "Open fire!"
Everyone who had a plasma riffle, tried to fire back on the HK's who were firing rays of big plasma shots at the resistance fighters, destroying one truck, killing nearly every soldier in it while another screamed in agonizing pain as he was burning alive!
"FUCK!" the female lieutenant cursed herself before grabbing an RPG launcher and aims at one HK.
When she fires, the rocket hits the HK at its engine, sending him crashing down hard!
While the battle seemed to last long while trying to run off fast from the HK's, it only lasted a minute as the final HK was shot down by either a ray of plasma fire or another RPG rocket.
The young female lieutenant sighs with relief but curses herself as she'd lost more of her men and women in the operation to safe human survivors "God… fucking… dammit!"
"Lieutenant!" the driver calls to her while holding up a transmitter "It's Chicago Command requesting an update."
She nods and takes the transmitter "Chicago Command, this is Lieutenant Ember McLain. Operation was successful. All survivors are freed, and Death Factory 43-8 is shut down for good," she took a deep breath as she had to tell how many men she'd lost "… We'd lost 7 men in the attack."
"Understood, Lieutenant McLain. Survivors are being picked up by helicopter at the rendezvous. Return back to Chicago Command Centre for debriefing." The man who was contacting the lieutenant, named Ember McLain, states before ordering her and her team to come back to the resistance headquarters.
"Roger. McLain out." Ember says before breaking contact.
Not long after at a secret Resistance base, 20 miles west of Chicago…
The convoy entered a tunnel going underground. After entering it, the steel doors behind it began to close and lights in the tunnel began to flicker on.
At the end of the tunnel, there was a large special parking lot where all kinds of vehicles of the Resistance were placed, being either normal transport trucks, armored cars with machine guns and a couple of tanks, with dozens of mechanics working on any kind of repair, cleaning or replacing weapons.
With Ember's vehicle coming to a stop, the lieutenant exited first and calls to a female black haired 16-year-old Sergeant named Lisa Wu "Sergeant."
"Ma'am?" Lisa nods while exiting her vehicle together with Brandon.
"I need numbers asap."
Lisa quickly counted and said, "Left the base with 50 men and women, ma'am. 7 dead and 13 wounded. Some with only a few bruises and cuts but some of us have taken a big hit against those T-800's at the base and when we were being shot by those HK's during our escape."
"Bring the seriously wounded to the medic area. Those who can still walk, catch some rest and await new orders." Ember ordered her.
"Yes, Ma'am!" the Asian American Sergeant says before going back to the others to check how badly injured the wounded soldiers were.
As Ember was about to leave, Brandon asks her, "Permission to speak freely?"
Ember stops and looks back at her demolition expert, giving him permission to tell what's on his mind. "Go ahead, Corporal."
Brandon nods and asks, "Ma'am, what happened to you back there in that death factory? It was like you were a statue for a moment after you demolished those T-800's that killed Samuel and Jinx."
Ember frowns fierce at him "Whatever's going on in my mind when we have a war to fight is none of your fucking business, Corporal." She then gave him a gesture to go and help the others "You know what to do. Now move your ass and do you job!"
Though Brandon didn't like it to be called out to like that, he respected Ember's leadership. He gave her a salute "Yes, Ma'am!" and went back to help Lisa carrying a wounded male soldier out of the vehicle, appearing to have taken several shots in his legs and were bleeding.
Medic personal arrived quickly with some carrying a stretcher. Two of them helped the wounded soldier on the stretcher and carried him to the medic area.
Meanwhile, Ember left the underground parking lot and went into a hallway, bypassing a few Resistance guards that saluted her, with her giving one back. She looks at the few dogs that were with the guards, giving one of them a gently stroke over its ears.
Ember walked further into the underground base.
Before the war, before the Resistance had made here their base of operations in the Chicago area and the Great Lakes, it was nothing but a normal highway tunnel under construction. Now, thanks to stolen tech from Skynet and having expanded the 'tunnels', it has been changed into a well-kept hidden base to host for almost a 500 personal and their families, having plenty of supplies and other things to keep the base operational.
Ember's body just walks on autopilot to where she's supposed to go while her mind, she was having terrible flashbacks of all the horror she's seen in the war against the machines, with the flashbacks ending with the most horrible memory she has… The night when her little sister was killed by a Terminator…
After walking a few more hallways, Ember's mind snapped out of it as she'd reached the entrance of the base's Operations Centre. One male and one female soldier were standing guard. When the male looks at Ember for a moment, Ember gives him a serious glare as she wasn't in the mood for any bullshit security procedure, making him nod, gesturing she can enter.
As the door slide open, Ember entered the Operations Centre where several senior officers were discussing plans.
"You sure about this?" a blond-haired female Major, being 32, asks the 47-year-old male Colonel who's having short brown-greyish hair.
"Resistance Intelligence has confirmed so about possible Skynet core facilities in Washington State, Okinawa and north of New Delhi." The Colonel states.
But as he sees Ember approaching, he stops talking to the others and looks at her.
Ember salutes him "Colonel Thumber, sir!"
"At ease, Lieutenant," the colonel, named Thumber, says before he tells "We heard of your mission in downtown Chicago, McLain. Good work today, Lieutenant. Your men saved a lot of lives today."
"Thank you, sir."
"Now," Colonel Thumber says with a little more serious tone "would you mind telling me why your squad was suddenly attacked by 3 HK's?"
Ember sighs before she explains, "The factory must've sent a distress signal in the midst of battle, sir. There was not enough time to block the signal before destroying factory 43-8."
However, Colonel Thumber didn't believe that part and asks, "How long does it take for your hacking expert to block any of Skynet's distress signals, Lieutenant?"
"32 seconds, sir."
"And how long did it take for those bombs going off?"
Ember froze for a second as she hadn't put into account how long it took for Brendon to set off the explosives because of what happened after the T-800's she'd overlooked and killed several of her team, causing her to go into a rage.
"I asked you a question, Lieutenant!"
Ember gulps and answers, "…70 seconds, sir…"
"70 seconds?" Colonel Thumber asks while narrowing his eyes "Sounds to me plenty enough time to prevent any HK's coming to your location before Skynet would know it was losing another extermination camp. If you'd kept your head together, then you wouldn't have lost 7 soldiers out there. Skynet can easily replace its soldiers, but we can't!"
"Sir, I…" Ember tried to say, but couldn't find the words to explain her actions before she got angry and says, "We got the job done! Those people are out, we destroyed another death factory of Skynet, and we got all back safe and sound without Skynet even fucking knowing of this place!"
With Ember having the nerve to talk to her superior like that made Colonel Thumper glare at him "You better watch your tone, Lieutenant."
Ember wasn't scared of him and stood her ground.
"If it wasn't for your outstanding performance in the war against those goddamn machines, I would've demoted you and transferred your sorry ass far away from here." Colonel Thumper says with a controllable angry tone "Just remember this, McLain: You may be Commander Fenton's and her aunt's little prodigy with your skills to finish Skynet, but to me you're nothing but a pain in my ass. If you ever die out there, I rather spit on your skull than ever missing you." he then gestured to leave "Now get out of my sight."
Ember sighs before giving a salute and left the Operations Centre.
'Fucking asshole!' Ember mentally thought, hating Colonel Thumper being on her ass any time whenever she has screwed up one of her missions or when she lost too many men.
Ember went through countless hallways, going to find some peace and quiet without anyone around to disturb her. She made her way into a hallway where a small, abandoned room was with only a couch, a broken tv and a matrass laying on the floor.
After Ember took off her jacket and threw it on the ground, she lay on the couch, giving a long sigh while taking off her boots.
While staring at the ceiling for a while, she tries to empty her head, but as the images of their last mission flashed through her eyes, seeing the girl that looked like her little sister killed by Terminators.
Tears began to form in her eyes "Fuck…! God… fucking dammit!"
Letting it all out, she began to cry as the horrors of the war and the scars of losing her family, especially her little sister and every man and woman under her command she was unable to safe became too much for her to hold in.
She rose up and began kicking and punching the couch "Fuck! Fuck fuck fuck fuuuuuuck!" Ember kept crying till she fell on the mattress and lay in the fatal position "Mom… Dad… Lily…! I'm so… sorry…!" she buried her head in her hands while she kept crying "Will this fucking war never end…?! Please… MAKE IT STOOOOOP…!"
After having cried out all her frustrations and trauma, Ember had fallen asleep, having nightmares of the war, watching her whole family die… her squad… everyone… before being ruthlessly killed by a Terminator that gave her an evil smirk.
Ember woke up with a shock and was sweating. She pants while wiping away the sweat from her forehead.
She groans for a moment "Fucking nightmares…" she took out a small digital watch, seeing it was only 02:00 AM "Son of a bitch…"
Ember rose up and walked to a small broken mirror hanging on the wall above a sink. When opening the pipe, Ember used the water to wash her face. She gave a long sigh before looking at herself in the shattered mirror.
At least Ember was somewhat grateful that none of the senior officers had called her in and at least she could now take some 'rest'. Even if she could.
Ember sat back on her mattress, finding it hard to fall asleep again. She then thought of what might help her keeping her mind away from all these nightmares and terrible memories. She reached to her jacket laying on the floor, taking out something from its pocket, being a folded snapshot picture.
As she unfolds it, she looks at it, being a picture of a black haired 16-year-old boy sitting in a jeep with a German Sheppard dog sitting next to him.
Ember forms a small smile as she looks at him.
Danielle had given this snapshot picture to her some years ago when she and her sister Lily were rescued by Danielle and the Resistance, telling her that it's a picture of her father, Danny Fenton, asking her to keep it safe for her.
Ember never knew why Danielle Fenton; the great leader of the worldwide resistance would give her an important memory of her father to her. But as time passed, and Ember began to treasure this photo, she began to wander what Danny was thinking at that time in the picture. And slowly, with nobody seem to understand or be there for her in either her grief, her emotional outbursts, this picture was the closest thing Ember has to have at least a little bit of comfort.
"Oh, Danny…" Ember said sadly as she stroke her finger softly over the picture, imagining she was stroking his chin "You… always keep my head together in this… this… fucked up world…" a small smile forms on her face as a tear fell from her eye "I wish you were here now… with me…" she gave a softy sign while closing her eyes, imagining Danny being with him and comforts her in his arms. That thought made her blush.
Ember couldn't deny that though it's only an old snapshot of Danielle's father, she did develop some crush for him, even though he isn't part of the living world.
But as she opens her eyes, she gasps as she didn't realize that someone had entered her room, being no other than 44-year-old Danielle Fenton herself.
Danielle Fenton has black short hair, a strong athletic body, green eyes and had several scars at the left side of her face.
Shocked that Danielle Fenton is in her room, Ember quickly stood up and salutes her "Ma'am!"
Danielle raised her hand, assuring her, "At ease, Ember, it's okay. Hope I'm not disturbing you?"
Ember shook her head "No, Ma'am! I… was just…"
Danielle then puts her hand on her right shoulder, looking at her with sympathy. Ember blinks for a moment.
"Are you alright?" Danielle asks her not as a serious military commander, but as a concerned friend.
Knowing that Danielle had always been somewhat of a help dealing with her grief, Ember, letting it all out, sighs deep while she slowly shook her head "No…! I… They're dead because of me… all because I…" new tears began to form in her eyes "I'm so sick of this entire war, Dani…! I'm sick of being unable to safe anyone…!"
"Don't say that, Ember. In the past few years, you fought amazing in battle. Thanks to you, more and more innocent people are being saved from being exterminated and we're getting closer to defeat Skynet."
"But for how long…?! How many more people have to die before we… I… can finally… leave all of this behind?!" Ember almost cries before she gives a longs sigh and wipes away her tears "Sometimes I think that this war will never leave me… that I will carry these scars with me for the rest of my life… And… the guilt of losing Lily…"
Danielle then hugs Ember, much to her surprise. But feeling this sense of comfort, made Ember teary again and returns the hug while crying on her shoulder.
"I know it's hard, Em… But remember: What happened to your little sister wasn't your fault, neither the deaths of all the men and women you lost today or during any other missions. I too have lost a lot of men during this long war with Skynet and every day I too wish for this nightmare to finally end." Danielle softly says, understanding her pain "These are trying times for all of us, Ember. But the only thing we can do is just keep fighting, for everyone's sake."
Ember nods while wiping away her tears.
Danielle then forms a confident smile "In fact, this war might even be over by tomorrow night."
Ember was confused why she said that, but seeing the look on Danielle's face, she had a good feeling that their leader has a major plan in store and crush Skynet by the balls.
"I'm placing you and your squad under my command." Danielle states before telling her, "Now, try to catch some rest. We're leaving at 0600 hours."
Ember forms a small smile before giving her a salute "Yes, ma'am. I'll try."
Daniele gave her a nod and left her room, closing the door behind her.
Ember sighs while sitting back on her mattress. As she lay down, she took back the snapshot of Danny and looks at it, hoping that her little imagination about him would help her sleep. After 30 minutes, Ember fell back asleep.
= The next day at the Resistance Headquarters near Crescent Lake, Nebraska - 3:40 P.M. =
With hundreds of Resistance soldiers gathered, including Ember and her squad, Danielle Fenton took the stand and started telling everyone, "Okay, listen up! I've gathered you all here today as tonight we will launch a major assault on Skynet's Central Core."
Everyone began murmuring among each other, surprised that the Resistance has finally found Skynet's central core.
"Our Intelligence has confirmed that Skynet's Central Core is located at the large underground base in Colorado Springs. A base that, before the war, was known as NORAD." Danielle tells while a holographic image was shown to the entire unit "The base itself inside the mountain is like a large maze, filled with Terminators, meaning we're expecting very high defenses. But thankfully, Intelligence was able to give us the exact route throughout the mountainous complex and locate the Central Core," she shows the holographic blueprints, showing how massive the base is but pinpoints where the central core of the evil AI Skynet is located. "Tonight, at 0100 hours, we will launch a worldwide assault on every Skynet core facility across the globe," she shows a holographic map of the world, pinpointing every location of Skynet's other central cores, being in New Delhi, Okinawa, Washington State, Yucatan, Peru, South-Africa, Turkey, Germany and in the middle of Siberia.
Hearing this, everyone was into it to finally end the war.
"When we destroy the other core systems across the world and the Central Core in Colorado Springs, the machines will fall tonight, ending Skynet once and for all."
Everyone began to cheer, ready to do this. Ember chuckles with joy, feeling that will truly mean the end of the war and hopefully she can finally live a normal life.
However, Danielle was still serious and raised her hand "Listen!" everyone went quiet "Skynet's Central Corel is not the only important target at the former base at NORAD. There's another target at the base, which is… maybe even far more important."
Everyone looks confused and exchanged glances.
"What's more important than destroying Skynet's Central Core, Ma'am?" Ember asks.
Danielle shows another part hidden deep in the mountainous maze "Deep inside the base, Skynet has hidden its final weapon. When Skynet realizes it has lost the war it will deploy that weapon to ensure its own survival. We take it tonight, or there may be no tomorrow."
Seeing how serious Danielle is and with everyone trusting her, almost like she's a prophet as how much she knows how to defeat Skynet, everyone is willing to do their part.
"Then we'll take it… and destroy it." Ember says with confidence.
Later that evening…
08:10 P.M.
With almost every soldier under Danielle's command preparing themselves for the upcoming offensive, some soldiers decided to use this precious time to either spend one final time with their families or having a final drink with their fellow brothers in arms, not knowing if they'll return alive after the battle.
A few of them even took the courage to finally open up to the one they love, which resulted in sharing some passionate moments.
Ember however was in no mood to share a few drinks with her teammates, nor does she have any family left to spend time or at least contact them one last time as they're all dead. All Ember wanted now was some peace and quiet in order to keep herself focused on the coming mission, which will hopefully be her final mission. She just leaned against the walls of the steel hallway while taking a few sips from a bottle of cold beer.
That was when Danielle walks into the hallway, finding Ember in there.
Ember looks and gives her a nod "Ma'am." Before she took another sip from her drink.
"You're not going to join your fellow soldiers at the bar?" Danielle asks as she stands in front of her before she gives a shrug "It might be your last chance to spend some quality time with them, soldier. Or even…" she chuckles "… find some other kinds of relaxations if you prefer?"
Ember however shook her head "No, ma'am. I'm not in the mood to drink at the bar and definitely not to go and fuck some random guy before battle."
Danielle assured her, "Hey, I'm not saying you should do that, Em. I'm just saying that it won't be doing you any good to remain isolated from everyone your whole life."
Ember puts her bottle down "I know…" she says, but then she slowly shook her head "But I can't do it, Dani… Not now."
"I understand," Danielle says with a small smile, showing she understands how she feels. Then she wanders and asks "And if this war is truly over, what will you do then?"
Ember shrugs "I don't know yet. Maybe I'll travel around a bit, see more of the world… Maybe trying to help around and use my hands for something else than killing Terminators."
Danielle nods with a smile "Yeah. That sounds like a good plan."
"And you, Dani?" Ember asks.
While Danielle thinks, she chuckles and answers, "I think… spending some good old family time with my kids will do…"
"And your husband too?" Ember asks with a raised eyebrow while she smirks at her.
Both women share a chuckle, with Danielle saying as she shrugs "I might."
Ember then sighs as she takes back her bottle "Well, whatever happens after we've won tonight, it's got to be better than this.
Danielle looks at Ember with a mixture of seriousness and some sadness, which puzzled Ember.
Just as she's about to leave, Danielle stops and turns back to her and says, "I want you to know, Ember, if there was another way, I would have taken it." she then gave Ember a gentle pat on the shoulder and leaves.
Ember raised an eyebrow as she watches Danielle leave, wandering why she would tell her that. But trusting her, she shrugs and takes a final big sip from her beer. When putting the bottle away, she takes out the snapshot of Danny Fenton and looks at it and smiles.
"Maybe… in a different life…" she softly says before giving the picture a soft kiss before putting it back in her pocket and decides to doublecheck any other preparations for the big assault.
As she bypassed a few soldiers who were having a chat or checking their weapons, Ember spots Corporal Brandon and Sergeant Lisa Wu in the corner, sharing a passionate kiss. Ember wasn't surprised as Brandon and Lisa have had feelings for each other for a long time but neither ever took the courage to tell what they truly feel. She figured that tonight might be their final chance.
When Brandon and Lisa spotted their Lieutenant, both broke their kiss and salute her.
Ember shook her head and just says as she walks by, "At ease… lovebirds."
Once Ember was gone, Brandon and Lisa resumed their make out. Deciding to not waste this moment any longer and show how much they truly love each other; they quickly went into a small empty room together and make passionate love.
Several hours later, with everyone having taken their rest or spend their final moments with their family, Danielle had gathered everyone in the large hanger.
As she took the stage, Danielle began to give the men and women of the Resistance and inspiring speech.
"The machine thinks that we cannot win! The machine thinks that we will not strike at the very heart of Skynet! Yet, here we stand on the precipice of the final battle. If we die tonight, mankind dies with us."
Some of the soldiers gave a nod while the others looked serious and determined, knowing the risk if they all fail tonight.
"I look at each of you," Danielle resumed her speech "and I see the marks of this long and terrible war. But tonight, if we succeed, this nightmare that has plagued us for too long will finally end and we can finally embrace the warmth of a new day!"
Everyone cheers.
"We fight for our children, and our children's children, so they will not carry these marks!" she points to her scars on her face "They will know who we are and what we did! That we did not bow down! WE DID NOT GIVE IN! WE ROSE UP, AT THIS MOMENT, AT THIS HOUR, WILLING TO SACRIFICE EVERYTHING SO THEY CAN LIVE IN FREEDOM!"
The soldiers cheer even louder.
"On this night we will crush Skynet once and for all! ON THIS NIGHT… WE WILL TAKE BACK… OUR WORLD!" Danielle rose her fist in the air as a cry for cheer echoes through the hanger. Ember and her team were cheering loud too.
That night at Skynet's Central Core, NORAD base…
01:30 A.M.
As the battle rages on, with the Resistance throwing everything they have, Ember and her squad, with Danielle and her fellow men leading the charge, storm the former NORAD base, meeting a hail of plasma fire by dozens of T-600's, T-800's and many other security Terminators.
Despite their defenses seemed impenetrable, Skynet's defenses were failing.
The Resistance were heading deeper and deeper into the base, destroying any Terminator in their way.
The Core, sensing that it was about to lose and even sensing its other core facilities across the world were falling, it conducted its backup plan.
"PERIMETER BREACHED. SECURITY DEFENSES FAILING. ACTIVATE MODEL 101." A computer voice, being Skynet, spoke as the lights turned on in the large room in the shape of a sphere where it has stored its secret weapon that was placed in the middle.
From another room, a modified T-800 Infiltration unit was activated and walks out. This Terminator had the flesh, skin and hair like a human, having a very muscular body to cover its steel endoskeleton, making it therefore very hard to recognize to be actually a killing machine.
As Skynet charges the weapon, the Terminator steps on the platform.
"CHARGING UP TIME DISPLACEMENT DEVICE SUCCESFULL. SENDING MODEL 101 TO DESIGNATED TIME COORDINATES. DESTINATION: JUNE 3RD, 2004."
When the Terminator sits on one knee, the arch of the weapon, revealing to be a Time Displacement Device, began to spin around it, creating a sphere of energy and blue electrical bolts flashed around it.
From another hallway, a hail of plasma fire was being shot from both directions, with Ember and Danielle destroying several Terminators along the way with their own plasma riffles.
"Skynet's Central Core is that way!" Danielle points out "Move! Move!"
Ember nods and her team follows.
But then, Danielle stops and sees to her shock several energy beams were charging, glowing blue.
"Oh no…! Skynet's using the weapon!" Danielle instantly moved to where "We got to get in there quick!"
"Dani, wait!" Ember quickly goes after her while they both shoot more killing robots along the way.
But just as they reached the hallway leading to Skynet's 'Time machine', they were met with another squad of heavily armed Terminators with miniguns, being T-850's!
"Shit!" Ember shouts before she and Danielle look for cover before returning fire.
But then… they stopped firing… and they all fell on the floor as they got deactivated. In fact, every single security that were suddenly shutting down.
From Dani's headset, her second-in-command calls, "Robertson to Fenton! Skynet's Central Core is down! I repeat: Skynet has been destroyed!"
When Ember and Dani both look, seeing every Skynet robot having shut down.
All over the world, with all the other Skynet Core facilities being destroyed, every Terminator, HK, Skynet tanks and so on, all began to shut down.
A small smile grew on Ember's face, with her eyes getting teary. They'd done the impossible. They'd won the war.
"It's over…" she chuckles "Dani… it's finally over!"
But as she turns to Dani, she wasn't overjoyed like Ember or the others. No. She was dead serious.
"No…" Dani shook her head as she moves further down the hallway, stepping over the now dead Terminators.
She opened the door, revealing the Time Displacement Device, with the Terminator gone.
"We're too late."
Ember joins her and asks confused, "What… is that thing?"
"Fate." Dani answered while stepping inside, only having her eyes on the 'Time machine' "It's the first tactical time-weapon. Skynet just used it."
"A what?" Ember asks with a mixture of shock and confusion "Dani, what are you talking about?"
An hour later
Ember's squad hacker, Maurice Lincoln, along with dozens of other programmers, were working hard to bring back power to Skynet's time weapon.
A female brown-haired captain named, Rose Williams told Danielle while typing on her own laptop "We'll be having the coordinates soon enough, Commander Fenton. We'll see what Skynet has send to what place and when."
Dani, for some reason, already knew the answer and where Skynet had sent the Terminator too "Columbus, Ohio, 2004."
A few seconds later, confirming Danielle's prediction, the date and coordinates showed on Captain Williams' laptop, surprising her first, but said anyway, "Yes, ma'am… That's right. Columbus, June 3rd… 2004."
Everyone looks at Danielle.
"Skynet knew it was losing," Dani answered everyone, knowing everything already "So in order to try to turn the tide and cheat its way to victory, it has sent a Terminator back in time."
"Then who's the target?" Brandon, who was also present, asks while Lisa Wu joins him.
"My father, Danny Fenton." Danielle answers "If this Terminator succeeds and kills him… I'll never be born.
That was when an old woman, being 63 years old, not a soldier, but wearing an old soldier uniform, steps in, bypassing the others. She has long grey hair and used a walking cane. Her eyes were milky white, showing she's blind.
The old woman says, "By killing my little brother in the past, every victory the Resistance fought and died for, including tonight's, will all never happen. There won't be a Resistance to stand against the machines. In this way… Skynet will win… dooming all of mankind."
Danielle sighs with a heavy heart before she nods at her "Yes, Aunt Jazz… that's right."
Everyone turned quiet to listen to what Jasmine Fenton, nicknamed Jazz and aunt to the great Danielle Fenton had to say "The only way… to protect him…"
"Is to send someone back… One of our own." Danielle adds, like she knew what her aunt was going to say.
"Sending one of us back into the past?!" one corporal asks in shock "That's a suicide mission!"
"Unbelievable!" another says, disagreeing with him calling it suicide "We all just fought our asses to finally destroy Skynet and now you're pissing your pants over this?! Jasmine Fenton is right! Someone has to go back to protect Commander Fenton's father!"
"Then you're about to do it then?" a female soldier asks with a serious look.
"What if we will fail, huh?! What if any of us can't protect Danny Fenton from that Terminator?!"
"Well, I won't go! I got a family to take care off!"
This began to escalate into a roar of wild arguments and disagreeing. Danielle tried to calm everyone, but it was to no avail, while old Jazz was just standing and listening how everyone was childishly arguing like a bunch of school kids while she shook her head in disapproval.
But Ember, having tuned out all the noises of loud arguing between the other soldiers and even her own squad, was quiet as she was in deep thought. Horrible images flashed through her eyes, imagining the Terminator walking over to a dead frightening Danny before the Terminator began to mercilessly slaughter him while a holographic face of Skynet laughs evilly.
Ember clenches her fists as an anger rose inside her. She'd fought so hard to finally end this war and now this Terminator was going back and… kill Danielle's father…!
"I will do it!" Ember shouts, but nobody noticed it as they were fiercely arguing who should go.
Only Jazz seems to have heard Ember's call.
"I WILL DO IT!" Ember shouts even louder, which causes everyone to turn quiet and turn to Ember in surprise and shock "I'll go back in time and safe Danny!"
Jazz forms a small smile.
Danielle however, though thinking this was very brave of Ember to do, asks her, "Why should I send you over all of them?" she points to the other soldiers.
Determined like never before, Ember steps up to Danielle and answers. "You know why. Everything you told me about him. I know him, Dani! Let me go back and safe him."
Danielle, while looking at Ember for some time, seeing the determination in her eyes, her willingness to give her life to safe her father in the past.
She forms a small smile before giving her an approval nod "Alright, Lieutenant McLain. Then the burden to protect my father in the past… falls upon you."
Later, while the engineers were busy charging back up the Time Displacement Device, Ember was talking with Captain Williams privately while Jazz and Danielle were with her.
"Seriously?! No weapons?" Ember asks Captain Williams surprised.
"Sorry, Lieutenant. We measured the magnetic field. The device will ripple apart anything not being living tissue." Captain Williams said.
Ember sighs and takes off her riffle, pistols, ammo and grenades "Great. Just fucking great." She says sarcastically.
"Oh, and…" Williams added "no clothes either."
That made Ember frown but began to 'undress', started taking off her hand gloves.
Danielle ensures her "Hey, just because you're making a journey to the past, doesn't mean you won't go back without your training."
Ember shook her "That's not what's really bothering me, Dani."
"Then what?"
Jazz chuckles "I think… she's just very exited to finally meet your father, Dani."
Ember hides a blush, trying to brush it off.
As Ember took off her armor, she asks Dani "How do you do this, Dani? You knew the device was here and you knew that a Terminator was being send back in time, AND you're knowing the exact date it was send back. Can you and Jazz like… see the future?"
Dani chuckles while she shook her head "No, we can't."
"I'm maybe blind, but just because my other senses are better doesn't mean I received any device powers after that nuclear blast fried my eyes on Judgement Day." Jazz adds with amusement "You read too many comic books, kid."
That joke did make Ember chuckle but asks again "Then how do you do it, Dani? You and Jazz?"
"We cheat." Danielle answered "Well, mostly I did."
"Cheat?" Ember asks confused.
Danielle sighs as she began to tell, "My parents taught me so much. Gave me signposts and prepared me since the day I was born. When I was a kid, it seemed like my parents knew everything."
"Wasn't that great?" Ember asks while taking off her jacket.
Danielle shrugs "Sometimes… but not always," she then forms a smile "While my parents taught me everything when I was a kid, my father was still trying to at least let me enjoy my childhood years in some way. My mother though…" she stops herself before she chuckles "Well, let's say she was the serious one of the two." She then forms a smile when looking back at Ember "But… she was a good and carrying mom… In her own way."
Jazz, standing next to Danielle, reaches out her hand, trying to feel Dani before putting her hand on her shoulder "She loved you very much, Dani… She would do anything for you to live."
That part made Danielle said but nods "Yeah… Yeah she did…"
When Ember had taken off most of her clothes, now only wearing a shirt and her army pants, she asks Danielle while taking off her combat shoes "Dani, you've told me so much about your father, but you never told me or anyone else about your mother. Just tell me, who is your mother? How will I know?"
Danielle gives her an assuring smile "You will know… when you will know. I can't tell you everything, Em. All I ask you now is to trust us."
Ember didn't like that her commander and her tutor were keeping things from her. But, swallowing her pride as the thoughts of Danny being in danger in the past still haunts her mind, she gives a nod "Okay. Whoever it is… I guess I'll find out for myself."
Then Ember takes out the snapshot of Danny from her pocket and hands it over to Danielle.
"I've kept it for you as I promised… I guess, since I can't take anything with me, it's only fair to give it back to you."
Danielle gave a nod and took her father's picture back. She then states "In the time you're going back to, my father won't be the warrior that raised me, not yet. He'll be scared and weak. He won't know how to fight or defend himself," she then chuckles with amusement "Back then, my father's biggest worries were… failing attempts to impress the most popular girl in school and the bullies that were bothering him. But his biggest fear was that because of his bad grades he would never become an astronaut at NASA."
"What's NASA?" Ember asks with a raised eyebrow.
"It's a…" Danielle shook her head "Never mind."
Jazz then tells Ember "There's a big chance that when you meet my brother, you might come across my past self, and also my parents."
"Anything I should know about your younger self and your folks?" Ember asks Jazz, wanting to be prepared.
The blind, old Jazz chuckles as she tells, "Well, my younger self will be… kind of a calculated girl, meaning that if she thinks her calculations are wrong, she'll start to freak out. When that happens, just give me a good shack, Ember."
Ember smiles a bit "And your folks?"
"My parents, Jack and Maddie were… ghost chasers," Jazz answers, "They were obsessed with proving ghosts were real and capturing them for study, which never happened, and they even built weapons for fighting them."
"Fuck. Sounds more like a couple of goddamn nutjobs." Ember said with a bit of annoyance.
Jazz gave a small nod "Yeah…" she then looks a bit sad as she thinks back of her parents "But, even though their little side job was more like a complete waste of time and talent, and how ridiculous their beliefs in ghosts and the afterlife was, my parents… they did loved us very much, even more than their dumb beliefs and wasting experiments."
Ember gave a nod before she asks Danielle, "Dani, what do I say to him? To your dad? Even when I tell him who I am and where I'm from, he's never gonna believe me."
Dani looks at her back for a moment, before she tells her with a small smile, "Tell him this message from me. You've got to memorize it."
Ember nods "Whatever the message is, I will always remember," she then looks at Jazz "You taught me after all, Jazzie"
Jazz chuckles.
Dani then tells, "Okay, you will tell my father this message: 'Thank you, Danny, for everything you and mom taught me through the dark years. Without the courage and determination you've shown me, I wouldn't be where I am now. I can't help you with what you must soon face, except to say that the future is not set. There's not fate but what we make for ourselves. You must be stronger than you imagine you can be. You must survive, or I will never exist'."
With a determined face and a small smile, Ember nods, promising that she will give Danny that message once she meets him in the past.
10 minutes later, with the Time Displacement Device being back fully online, everything was ready to set Ember back in time.
Ember, covering herself with a big coat to cover her nakedness, began to walk over to the platform of the time machine. Everyone looks at Ember with a lot of respect as she takes this heavy burden.
Ember stops for a moment at her squad members, Lisa, Brandon and Maurice.
Lisa sighs before she tells her, "Lieutenant… it's been an honor serving under you."
Brandon nods as he adds, "Yeah… though you were… tough and…"
"A pain in the ass?" Ember guessed while raising an eyebrow, guessing what he was going to say.
Brandon gave a small nod "Yes, ma'am… Despite you were a… damn fucking bitch to me all the time… you were the best commander I could've ever asked for!"
Ember gives him a small smile, "And you were the finest soldier my squad could've ever asked for, Corporal Thomas Brandon."
Brandon gave her a salute.
Ember's squad hacker, Maurice, said with a heavy heart, "Ma'am… you understand that… if you do this… you can never come back?"
"I know, Lincoln. But it's a risk I'm willing to take… for all of you." she says to all three of them "Go. Build your new lives in this new world without Skynet. Get married and… have a family," she looks at Lisa and Brandon "Be happy. That's my final order."
All three gave Ember a salute, with her giving them a salute back.
As Ember goes to the platform of the device, Brandon couldn't hold back his tears and began to sob with Lisa patting her boyfriend softly on the shoulder.
Ember sighs and removes coat while stepping on the platform, naked.
None of the soldiers were looking like a bunch of perverts at Ember's naked body but only look at her with the utmost respect.
"We're ready, Commander," one engineer says.
Danielle nods and asks them, "You've put in the coordinates I gave you?"
"Yes, Commander. Sending her to the exact same date. June 3, 2004. She'll arrive some minutes after the Terminator," the engineer stated before asking, "But… why Amity Park, ma'am? Why can't we send Lieutenant McLain to the same city where the Terminator had been sent to?"
"Because Amity Park is where my father lives in 2004. And besides, if we send Ember to the same city, there's a chance she'll never make it to my father in time. It's better for her to arrive in Amity Park to prepare for the Terminator's arrival before it gets to my father." Danielle states.
Jazz, holding Danielle's arm, nods "It's time."
Danielle pats her aunt's hand "I know." she then nods to the engineers and to Maurice who returned to his post and pressed some buttons, activating the time machine.
The arch began to move slowly around Ember. She knew that there was no going back now, but didn't care as she had already made up her mind once she told to volunteer to safe Danny Fenton in the past and protect him from the Terminator.
Old Jazz, hearing the device was charging, calls to Ember, "Oh! And don't worry about my younger self if she doesn't believe you! She's smarter than you think!"
Ember nods "I will remember."
Then, as the arch spins even faster around her, creating lost of electrical bolts, Ember slowly floats up in midair. A sphere of blue energy forms around her.
Ember began to feel strange as the amount of energy increased, making her groan. But as it powers up even more, she began to feel lots of pain as the sphere glows brighter and brighter!
Ember then yells out in immense pain!
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!"
And in a bright flash… Ember was gone and the machine powers down.
Danielle forms a small smile while a tear fell from her eye "Goodbye… Ember…"
Columbus, Ohio
June 3rd, 2004 – 1:52 A.M.
Near the baseball stadium called Huntington Stadium, a garbage collector in his 40's was using his garbage truck to pick up a lot of trash from a waste container. He was smoking a cigar as he uses a remote to pull up the waste container.
Being sure that all the garbage was out, he pulls another button to slowly lowering it. But then… it stops.
The guy raises an eyebrow as he tries to press it again "What the hell? Goddamn piece of cheap shit!" he curses himself while hitting the remote.
Then, to his surprise, the wind began to blow and sees lots of blue bolts, forming a sphere next to a few other waste containers, with parts of them melting away in a perfect sphere. And in a flash, he sees a naked but very muscled man sitting on one knee, appearing where the sphere was.
"What the fuck…?!" was all the guy said before dropping the remote and made a run for it.
The Terminator slowly stood up, scanning his surroundings for a moment. Seeing he'd arrived at the exact location and time, the Terminator began to walk into one direction with its first priority to search for something to wear.
A few streets away from the stadium, 3 punk goths were laughing while one was using a baseball bat to demolish an old car that had been illegally parked on the pavement for some time and had dozens of parking tickets attached to its front window
"Hell yeah!" the first punk says. He has blue dyed hair in a tomahawk and has several piercing rings on its eyebrows, nose and ears. He wears a bandana over its forehead, black shirt without sleeves and had a big skull on it, jeans with holes in its knees and black sport shoes.
The second one, having black and green dyed hair, a tattoo of an Iron Cross on its right cheek, wearing a fishnet see through black shirt, black pants with holes in its knees and army boots, chuckles while drinking big sips of cheap beer from a bottle before tossing it to the car, shattering the glass window.
The third punk, having long red dyed hair, glares back at the one who thew the bottle that had almost hit him. The third punk was wearing a black leather coat, grey shirt, fingerless black gloves, black pants and grey combat boots. Angrily, he says to the second punk "Fuck, man! Watch where you throw that!"
The second punk however didn't felt intimidated and leans close to his face "What are you going to do about it, huh?" he asks in a threatening way while he smirks, clearly teasing him.
That was when the first punk notices someone was coming, being the naked Terminator "Hey, guys!" he patted his palls on the shoulder and head before pointing at their visitor "What's wrong with this picture?"
The other two look and see to their friend's confirmation the hulking guy walking naked to them. All three laugh as the Terminator stops in front of to them.
The second, while still laughing asks him, "Hahahaha…! Nice night for a walk, eh?"
The Terminator stops in front of them, showing a face with no emotion at all "Nice night for walk." He repeated the punk's words in a strong German accent.
The first punk chuckles with amusement "Washday tomorrow, huh? Nothing clean, right?" he asks, thinking this guy is a bit crazy in the head.
"Nothing clean. Right." The Terminator repeated.
The third punk snaps his fingers in front of his face, seeing no reaction coming from him. He chuckles, thinking to know what's wrong with him "Hahahaha. This dumb guy must be high on dope or something."
The Terminator looks at the punks, scanning them. The first 2 punk's clothes didn't match the Terminator's size, but when he scans the clothes of the third, his scanning system saw they're a perfect match.
"Hey! Hello-ooo!" the first punk asks while waving his head in front of the Terminator's face "Earth to dumb guy. Anyone in there?" the other two were just laughing, not knowing the kind of danger they're in.
"The fuck you think you're looking at, dummy?" the second punk asks, starting to get annoyed of him staring at them "You wanna suck my dick or somethin'?"
"You clothes." The Terminator tells the third punk "Give them to me. Now."
Angrily, the third punk holds up his baseball bat "Hey, fuck you, asshole!"
With the other two punks switchblade draw their switchblades, ready to teach him a lesson.
Seeing them being uncooperative, the Terminator grabs the third punk's baseball bat before punching him backwards and hits the bat against the first punk's face, causing him to fly hard backwards and hit the broken car hard, hurting him!
"Why you fucking…!" the second punk angrily calls while stabbing the Terminator in the belly! But before he knew it, the Terminator grabs the second punk tight to his throat and pulls him up high, choaking him.
The second punk tried to free himself but the Terminator's grip was far stronger, making him lose breath quickly. To his horror, the Terminator takes the baseball bat… and uses it to stab the second punk in his stomach, exiting his back while lots of blood spread over the ground!
The third punk, still being conscious, looks with horror what this crazy guy just did to his friend, like he was a complete psycho
The Terminator drops the now dead second punk, with the baseball bat still sticking out of his back. He stares emotionless to the third punk.
"You… you crazy bastard…! You're… you fucking psycho…!" the third punk said, shocked to the core and fearing for his own life while crawling backwards to the wall.
"Your clothes. Now." The Terminator repeated.
Not wanting to die, the third punk nods heavily and quickly began to take off his clothes "Okay, okay, okay! Just… just don't kill me… please!" he begs while he began to sob.
Meanwhile, in Amity Park
02:12 A.M.
Deep in downtown of the moderate city of Amity Park, in an abandoned back alley, a street dog was sniffing through some trash to look for food. But as it senses something coming, it whines and quickly runs away while it barfs.
An blue electrical sphere began to form midair in the allyway while big blue electrical bolts sparked everywhere. And as the sphere goes brother before it disappears… Ember, completely naked, falls on the ground with a thud.
Still feeling so much pain after time traveling, Ember groans while trying to move. Feeling every muscle and bone in her body paining her, she curses, "Fuuuck…! God… fucking… aaargh…!" she pants "Time traveling fucking hurts…! Urrgh…!"
But as the pain slowly began to fade, Ember began to stand on her legs as she looks around, seeing that she was indeed in a different time. She walks to the end of the back ally, seeing the buildings weren't destroyed and people were minding their own business.
Ember forms a small smile "It worked… It fucking worked…!" she says to herself, seeing how different and more nicer the past looks, she nods "So, this is how the world looked like in 2004, huh? Very different from the world I know." but as she reminds herself that she's still naked, she tells herself "But, first things first: Finding some fucking clothes."
Ember began walking down the streets, being careful to not attract too much attention to herself. She then saw in another street what Jazz had described as street prostitutes.
One was mixed color with burnette hair, an hourglass figure with blue eyes and wearing a red tank top, very short jeans and black high heels. The other was African American, wearing a white bandana bra, a white mini skirt and beige sandals.
The mixed color girl saw the girl Ember, being surprised at first she's naked but thinking she could score her some easy cash, walks up to her. "Hey there, sexy? Looking for a great time?"
Ember eyed the girl and got straight to the main goal. "No, but you can give me your clothes."
"Excuse me?" The girl asked with confusion… before Ember knocked her out with one punch!
"Hey! The fuck you think you're-" the second asks while quickly going over to her before Ember knocked her out too!
Seeing that nobody saw her, Ember hide the unconscious hookers in another backalley.
Not long after, Ember came out of the alley, fully dressed in the girl's clothes, wearing the hooker's red tank top and very short jeans while wearing the African American girl's white sandals. Finding they fit her perfectly, Ember sighs "Well, as long as I can get to Danny and his family, I guess these will do until I get some better clothes." She said before moving on to her main objective: Finding the Fenton family's home.
Remembering Jazz's family home's address, Ember was able to find the house after asking another guy for directions.
The house wasn't that hard to spot, as above it was a big self-made observatory, with at the side of the home saying: FENTON WORKS.
"Well, Jazz sure wasn't kidding when she told her parents are really nutcases in their beliefs in finding ghosts." Ember tells herself as she looks at the house.
Seeing it wouldn't do any good to knock on the door now as it was in the middle of the night, Ember looks around where she can hide and at the same time keeping an eye on the house. Ember took notice at the old abandoned house right across the street of Fenton Works, which looked like it has been empty for years as the doors and windows were largely boarded up.
"Perfect." Ember tells herself as she walks over to the old house "Hiding in plain sight. Classic tactic."
When Ember looks around the back of the old home, she notices that one of the windows was still partly open. As she saw a nearby rain pipe next to it, Ember used it to climb up to it without much effort. When reaching the window, she grabs the partly broken wood and rips it off, showing an entrance. Ember managed to crawl inside.
Ember sighs while dusting off her hands, seeing the house was nearly completely empty with dust everywhere and a rat crawling away in fear. "No place like home…" she tells herself as this old house didn't looked that much different than her old quarters in the future.
A few minutes later, Ember had found an old mattress, which relieved her a bit as she drags it close to another window she managed to open, looking over the street and Fenton Works "Thank goodness I won't have to sleep on the floor. Not that mind, but," she puts the mattress down "better than nothing."
After sitting on the mattress, she looks out the window to the Fenton family's home. She sighs deep while leaning against the wall while still looking at the house.
"Don't worry, Danny… Whatever happens… I'll protect you from that killing machine…" she tells herself.
She kept looking at the house for some time, but as the tiredness became too much for her, Ember slowly closed her eyes and fell asleep.
