This is a Rango fic I wrote about my OC/persona named Addy, who in which is a snake/horned lizard/hawk hybrid and how he is able to manage his life after being abandoned.
That's all I have to say, hope you enjoy.
Chapter 1: One Disgusting Uncovery
It all starts with two diamondback rattlesnakes hidden under a rock, in a den they called home. The male had just got their dinner for the night. He dragged a dead roadrunner behind him with his tail while the slightly smaller female sat back and watched. She was pregnant with an unknown amount of children yet to come within her coils. The male had torn through the roadrunner, taking large pieces of muscle for both of them to enjoy. After he finally got what he needed, he took a large chunk of meat and took it to his mate.
"Just letting you know I did a lot of work chasing this bird around, so you better like it." he said jokingly.
"Oh whatever you say, lazy." She rolled her eyes and smiled.
"Lazy? Look at you right now!"
"Well at least I have a reason to be lazy." She said as she tapped her own coils with her rattle.
"Touché."
The male got his own meal and started to chow down, so did the mate. As the two were in the middle of their feast, they got interrupted in an urgent manner.
"MMPH!"
The female had stopped chewing, letting out a muffled yell through her closed mouth, trying not to spit out the food. She swallowed her food roughly and started to gasp for air.
"Rosa! What's wrong? Are you ok?" The male asked. He rushed towards her and slightly wrapped her within his coils.
"Paul! Paul, I think they're coming! It's time!" Rosa said through breaths. She tried to manage her breathing, all the while being interrupted by the pain within her coils.
The two panicked only for a short while until they realised they knew what to do, and with that, they began the delivery process.
The two rattlers had delivered six little ones. The couple had adored the little bunch within the coils of their mother. This was the start of a greater family, or so the couple thought...
It had been a couple days since the birth of the six children. The parents had a few slight struggles trying to manage their family, but they were able to figure it out in the end.
The small rattlesnakes were playing with their father outside the den. Paul didn't really like playing with all of them at once and hoped Rosa would come back and keep at least one of them distracted away from him.
Meanwhile, Rosa was in kitchen of their den, picking meat off of the bones of their recent roadrunner. Suddenly, a sharp pain stabbed through her coils. This pain was different from the pain she experienced giving birth to her first children. This pain stung badly, as if she had swallowed a bunch of nails. The scratching continued until Rosa finally screamed from the unbearable pain.
Paul heard the screams of his mate and quickly rushed back to the den, his children followed further behind him. When Paul finally reached the kitchen, he saw Rosa in a very cramped position, her breathing more quickened then ever. When the children caught up to Paul and saw their mother in distress, they huddled up together in fear.
"Rosa! What is wrong with you?"
"I think it's happening again! I don't know why!"
Rosa flicked her tongue in the air, sensing another presence other than Paul's. She then noticed the children behind the bigger snake.
"Get the children out of here! I don't want them to see!"
Paul looked behind himself to see their kids, all of them scrambled within eachothers coils, shivering and whimpering nervously. He took them in his coils and took them to another room of the den. He rushed back to the kitchen to assist his partner. They both knew what to do, but they knew that this was going to be different.
The couple looked down at the snake that spawled all over the ground, but it didn't look like a regular diamondback rattlesnake. Hell, it didn't look like a regular snake at all to them! The two snakes looked on nervously and disgusted.
The snake had scales with a darker tint than most diamondbacks, this snake didn't even have a diamondback pattern at all. It had black almost ogee like patterns running down its sides from head to tail. The thing didn't have a rattle, intead it had horns poking out of both sides of it's head, just behind its yellow and red eyes. It also had spikes growing up in a line from his nose and down its back. To the parents, this thing nothing more than just a hiddeous creature.
The thing looked up towards both of the bigger rattlers and looked on happily. The couple backed away slightly while their tongues flicked the air towards the unknown snake, but the scent was unrecognizable. Soon enough the kids had come from the other room after it got quiet and came face to face with the new being infront of them. The children flicked their tongues towards the newer one, a couple even tried getting close to it, but were held back by their parents. When the new snake saw its siblings do the tongue flicking action, it did the exact same thing and flicked its tongue at them. It soon realized what it really does and continued to do it. The parents looked at eachother, and both had a thought on how they could figure this out.
It was midnight, the parents silently gathered all their children and other important needs, all the while the newborn creature was asleep, not able to hear the comotion around itself. The family had left the den without looking back, hoping that it didn't follow them. And with that, the entire family was gone.
The next morning, the little one woke up. It started to realise that its family wasnt around it anymore. It slithered throughout the den and flicked its tongue, hoping to find them anywhere. But it couldn't find them, nor catch their scent. He looked outside ths den and out into the almost empty horizon of the desert. But there was no one. He was all alone. The snake went back into the den and curled up in the room he was sleeping in. There he quivered, and tears dropped ontop of his coils where he rested his head.
He was going to live alone forever.
To be contiued...
All characters in the story so far belong to me which are the newborn, Paul, Rosa, and the six children.
