Steve called off work for the rest of the day as he just could not go back in between being exhausted and now beyond upset with Laura and his own actions. He would never actually do this, because he loved his job and enjoyed what he loved doing. As Steve was feeling about Laura he was debating on calling her but Steve knew his wife, if she was upset with him, and well she would not answer until she was calmed down. So he just went home after making a quick stop at the flower shop.
Once his car was parked in the parking garage, Steve got out and locked it. He made sure he had everything, even the bouquet of red, white, and pink roses. As he opened his apartment door, he sighed as he always never loked being here without Laura. The years they lived together in the Winslow household and now being married to her, it just felt odd when she was not around.
Steve turned on a light and then locked the door. He went to the kitchen and grabbed a vase. He filled it up with water and set the flowers inside it. He then went into the dining room/ living room area and sat the vase on their little table with a little note beside it.
Steve really did not know what to do with himself. He had not felt this way on a very long time and it hurt. As he was about just maybe watch something on t.v., he looked back at the spare room they had in the apartment. Laura and him have not really done anything to it. There was nothing in there except painting supplies to paint the room with and the actual paint for it when they decided to start making it into a nursery. Steve got up from the sofa and went in there. So for the next 2 hours he was organizing and preparing as he began to paint the room as he wanted to take the first steps making the room into the nursery.
Meanwhile
Laura was still livid on Steve's behavior but her sickness got the best of her again. Luckily Ted's mom was nice enough and bought her ginger tea and some saltine crackers. She did email her professer hoping she would email Laura back on the assignment. But what she hated, was she knew there was no way she could go to work on how sick she was feeling and her exhaustion was getting the best of her. Plus she had not heard anything from Steve as she kept checking her phone. She debated on calling him, but she was not ready to give in. If he was sorry, he would have to call her. She was glad though that in the next hour Ted was done with her car.
Ted tried to pry on why she did not leave with Steve and his mom told him she was clearly upset. Laura snapped, "Ted just drop it! I appreciate all of this but what happens with Steve and I is none of your business..." she then sighed as she could tell he was taken aback with a sorry. She calmed herself down as she was getting ready to pay. "Look Ted, I am sorry. It was nice catching up, and glad you are doing good. It's just today has just been way beyond bad a day."
"You're alright Laura... Well if you ever want to catch up some more and things don't work out with Steve you know where to find me." Ted told her with a wink as he gently caressed her hand as he was handing her receipt and keys.
Laura quickly pulled her hand away, stepped back and felt disgusted. "Oh heck no! Ted Cullan I am a happily married woman! I love Steve! I am mad at the genius idot thats all. As for you and I, we might have a past but that's all we have! No more! Thank you for your service and hopefully I will never see you again!" Then turned and walked out of the shop.
As Laura got in the car she shuddered as she even felt even more sick than before. Steve feelings towards Ted were right but he still should have trusted her. She looked herself in the review mirror and could tell she was on the edge of crying again as her eyes were puffy and holding back tears. Laura then started up her car, and got out away from there. She turned on her favorite radio station just to help herself calm down and headed towards Steve's work place.
She did not know how many times she called him after arriving to his job and the security telling her that Steve called off the rest of the day. It was unlike him to do this and unlike him not to answer his phone. She got back car after pacing around it in the parking lot after trying to call her husband for the fifth or sixth time.
Laura was trying to think rationally as her brain was fogged by not only from being tired but also frustration and irritable towards Steve and her main anger shifted towards Ted. All she wanted was a break today. If she could rewind and start all over today she would have. Laura slightly chuckled and shaking her head as if she mentioned that to Steve he would find a way to build a machine to do that. But only something go wrong eventually. She took a deep breath as she closed her eyes. Laura cleared her thinking and trying not to panic of where her husband, who was probably feeling heartbroken right now, she decided to go home and hopefully he was there.
Laura pulled in and was relieved to see her hisbands Isetta. As she came inside the apartment, Laura heard light polka music being played in the second bedroom. But before she went that way after locking the apartment door, Laura noticed a beautiful bouquet with a note on their tiny kitchen table. She went over and smelled the different colored roses and like always loved smelling them as they were her favorite. Then she took the note a traced her finger over Steve's handwriting of her name. Then flipped it opened and read the words written on the paper.
Laura Lee,
I know you are mad at me but I really do hope you love these roses because when I saw them I thought they were beautiful but never as beautiful as you. Yes I'm trying to lay it on thick so you won't be so hard on me when we talk face to face. And just remember I love you and our unborn baby so much.
Love your husband, Steve.
Laura thought the note was short and sweet as she smiled from it, but he was right they needed to talk. As she walked down passed the kitchen and living room, Laura made it to the bedrooms hallway as their master bedroom and with their own master bathroom was on the left and the second bedroom on the right and rhe extra bathroom atbthe end of the hallway. As she went to open the second bedroom door since she had a feeling that where Steve was, but it was locked, she frowned hoping he did not feeling he was moving into that room all because of their fight, so she got ready to knock on it. But before Laura did. Steve unlocked the door and peeked his head out. He saw Laura's confused look as she had and eyebrow raised and arms crossed. But he gave her a small smile anyways. "Hang on, but you have to close your eyes though before I open this door and let you in."
"Okay?" Laura said not knowing what to expect but she closed her eyes like Steve asked her. She heard the door open and felt Steve's presence closer to her which made shivers run down her body. Then flet him uncross her arms and took her hands into his. "Just let me guide you okay?" Laura nodded as he told her. Then she began to walk as he guided her into the room. "Before you open your eyes, I just you to listen to me okay?" He watched his wife nod and then continued, "I want to tell you I am sorry Laura Lee. I let my insecurities get the best of me today for the first time in a long time. After all morning to try make you feel better and not barely getting a smile out of you, but seeing your ex-boyfriend do it, well it made all these feeling about the guy as I did in high school. I should worded things better because Sweetums I trust you with everything in my life. Laura Lee I love you and our unborn baby more than any thing in this universe." He then pulled her closer and let his lips brush agaisnt her as he let them sway to the slow polka music playing softly through the room.
Laura pressed her lips to his, she pulled back and opened her eyes to look at her husband. He looked back not knowing how to react, but they kept swaying to the music. "Steve, I probably would have reacted the same way and would have roughed up the woman. Yes did it seem like I was making you sound like you were accusing me of flirting and that was wrong on my part. I should have never got frustrated at you and telling you go back to work. It reminded me of the old me when I would get mad at you and tell you to go home. I am sorry for all of it. And yes I should have believed you Ted was taking my friendliness as flirting, because he tried taking advantage of that. He's lucky I told him off and not fist in his face. I hope you can forgive me?" She searched his face only to match each other's smiles.
"Of course I do as long as you forgive me?" He asked with a wink. She nodded and gave him a small peck on the lips. Laura then began to notice their second bedroom was different.
"Did you paint the whole room?" She asked as she was surprised this what he had been up to.
"Yeah, I had to keep my mind busy, and the fumes in paint is not good for you and the baby so I went ahead. Hopefully this light grey is what you wanted for the nursery?" Steve asked as Laura looked around the room and nodded.
"It is, I can't wait to fill it with baby stuff." She turned back to Steve with a big smile with her hand on her lower stomach. Laura reached out with her free arm and pulled Steve closer to her. He gently put his hands on her hips and pressed his forehead to hers. "Steve, how about I show you how really sorry I am and how excited for you to become a daddy?" She smirked at the question she asked giving him a wink.
Steve lifted Laura, helping her wrap her legs around his waist. "Only if you let me pamper you afterwards and spoil you like crazy to show you how sorry I am?"Laura gave him a yes as he kissed her lips. So he concentrated really hard not to trip or run into something while he carried Laura to their bedroom.
Laura screamed with delight, she was still not feeling the best, but somehow making love to her husband made the feeling go away. Plus it had been weeks since they fooled around and made love. She was missing it and the way they expressed very loudly how much they loved each other.
