Chapter 7: Confrontations

" When I was younger, I saw my daddy cry

And curse at the wind.

He broke his own heart and I watched

As he tried to reassemble it." Bella sang as she ran along the beach . Believe or not she remembered the day her biological mother left their family. It had been rainy as always. Her father had begged her mother not to go but she didn't listen. They had argued for hours until she gave up and walked out the door, never to return.

Flashback:

"Renee! You cant do this! You cant just walk out on us!" her daddy shouted.

Bella covered her ears, her daddy never shouted, seeing him do so scared her.

"im tired of this Charlie! Tired of this sleepy boring town! I won't ever advance here! There is nothing for me !" her mommy yelled "and what about us! Your family we are here!"

"you will never be enough!"

With that said, her mommy picked up her bags and left.

And my momma swore

That she would never let herself forget .

And that was the day that I promised

I'd never sing of love if it does not exist.

with her mother gone Bella had sworn off love. It was gross and it caused broken hearts… but then… her father met sue. It had started at the funeral of her former husband and her father's best friend. It was just small things that got the ball rolling. She and her father would go over to the clearwaters and have dinner so that they didn't feel so lonely. Quil Sr. and Quil junior would come along as well but that didn't stop the romance from brewing. Over time, the dinners became breakfast and breakfast became weekend slumber parties with her father sleeping on the Clearwater's couch. Before she knew it, sue and her father were dating. It didn't take long for them to marry, and she got a new mom. A better mom . Her biological had given up all rights to her but it never bothered Bella. She had gained a family in her mother's absence.

But darling,

You are the only exception.

You are the only exception.

You are the only exception.

As the song continued Bella thought about Edward and his family. She was ready to beat all of them with a crowbar. It wasn't so much the breakup; it was just how it had been done and it was unexpected.

If they had sat her down and talked… maybe she wouldn't be so angry, but he left her in the woods for crying out loud.

Five years. Five years of puppy love and danger. Once thing that she had agreed with Edward about was that he wasn't good for her. He never had been. It was quite true that he was dangerous. But wasn't everything? It wasn't so much the danger that made him bad for her, but it was the toxicity of their relationship.

Over the five years she had seen small signs and even her friends had taken her to the side and made it known but Bella refused to listen. She had been enamored. She had been controlled. Edward and his family wanted her to dress a certain way, talk a certain way do certain things. And none of it was her. She was a riding dirt bikes and touch football kind of girl and the Cullen's had refused to accept that. It was improper. However, now that she wasn't in their face daily, it seemed her head was coming out of a fog. Like she could finally see. Edward had once said he was the perfect predator. Everything about him was meant to attract and then kill. And that's exactly what he did. He attracted her, or she attracted him. Most of the Cullen's had a gift and Edwards had been mind reading. Out of all the people in the world, Bella's was the only ones he couldn't read. That was why he had been attracted to her.

You are the only exception.

Maybe I know somewhere deep in my soul

That love never lasts.

And we've got to find other ways to make it alone.

Or keep a straight face

And I've always lived like this

Keeping a comfortable distance. And up until now I have sworn to myself

That I'm content with loneliness.

Because none of it was ever worth the risk.

Well you are the only exception.

You are the only exception.

You are the only exception.

You are the only exception.

I've got a tight grip on reality,

But I can't let go of what's in front of me here.

I know you're leaving in the morning when you wake up.

Leave me with proof it's not a dream.

You are the only exception. [4x]

You are the only exception. [4x]

And yet there was sam. He was truly an exception. Her exception. The way he loved on her without restraint. The way his soul reached out to hers. The connection she had with Sam was past the boundaries of the one she had with Edward.

"I think… I love him." Bella said aloud as she took out her headphones. She was covered in sweat from her run and the sun was just beginning to rise over the December sky.

A/n: my husband and I had a debate over the timeline. Lol. But if

Bella's birthday was in September and Edward left her in September. Two months would add up to December. So it is now December .

"… no, I know I love him. We may not have been together for long but… Sam knows me, and I know him. We care for each other. And he shouldn't have to sleep in cold caves or live in the forest."

she was going to fight for Sam. Fight for her wolf. And that would start with her parents. Prayerfully they would be the most receptive.

Thinking of Sam, she looked towards the forest. He had taken off around 3 am. A simple word releasing from his lips as he kissed her.

"Run." He simply said and then he jumped out of her bedroom window.

At first Bella had been confused but then she realized he was telling her that he was going on a run.

Two hours later Bella decided to go on her own run. That was one thing she had refused to let Edward break her on. Running had kept Bella in shape, but it also helped release stress. However, she had become lazy once Edward left her. She had been too depressed to get up. Now, she was with Sam and there was no excuse.

And from the pregnancy books she had under her bed, exercise was good for the pup.

Bella laughed.

Instead of calling their child a baby, Bella took up calling him or her pup. It was Sam's favorite word anyway.

She wondered what his favorite food was? His favorite color? She would have to ask him. The more time she spent with him, she realized it wasn't that her wolf was dumb or stupid despite what people thought, it was that he hadn't been around humans for years. So there hadn't been a need to speak, no need to think about his own interest. The only thing that was important to him was keeping the reservation safe and making sure the pack was in order. There had been no room for anything else.

With a yawn Bella made her way back home, and quietly walked in. it was now 6 am. Her run has lasted her an hour. The house was silent as she heard the snores of her family.

With a plan in mind Bella fell asleep.

Leah growled as she missed her kill.

Stupid leech! I almost had it ! She said into the pack mind.

Relax Leah! Jared and I are on the other side we can handle it Paul told her.

Leah snapped her jaws as she could see Jared and Paul cornering the leech. Beside her was Jacob. This morning the four were almost finished with their patrol when they smelt the leech. This one had dark hair and red eyes. Not that it mattered but their seemed to be more of them showing up.

Leah focus! Jacob snapped.

Leah felt her fur stand up. She was really getting sick of people trying to tell her to do her job. She could handle this .

By now, they had the leech cornered. Ready to make the kill. But they were taken by surprise when the leech screamed and all four of them were blown back.

What the heck was that!? Since when were they able to do that! Paul screamed in their heads.

I have no idea! It's like a sonic scream Jared answered.

Guys its getting away ! Jacob shouted.

The chase was on again, they chased the leech for miles. Practically reaching the border of Canada when something black, darted in front of the leech catching it off guard.

This gave them the opening they needed. With eagerness, the pack tore the leech apart and Jacob lit it on fire.

"What the heck was that shadow?" Jared asked as he put on his shorts.

Jacob stared pensively into the flames as he responded.

"It was Sam."

Paul's eyes widened.

"Sam?"

"Yeah. Didn't you guys feel that burst of power?" Jacob questioned.

"Power? I thought it was adrenaline." Leah commented.

Jacob shook his head.

"No, it was sam. He just saved our butts. Now, let's go home. Leah we will be coming over to yours for breakfast."

Leah rolled her eyes.

"of course."

"Hey… no one is telling you to cook. We want Bella's food anyway." Paul grinned.

Leah threw a rock at him.

"Speaking of B, how is she?" Jared asked.

"… She's ok." Leah shrugged and looked away

"Liar." Paul argued.

Leah ignored him and stomped off.

A few hours later found sue clearwater walking into her kitchen with tired eyes. The night after a bonfire was always exhausting. It took so much out of her. She was just grateful she had the day off today. Being a doctor was no easy job, especially on the res. So many of her people needed help. The hospital in forks would even ask her to come and help sometimes but every time they asked, she said no, there was no way she was working in forks with the Cullen's around. However now that they were gone, maybe she could pick up a few hours.

She was just about to reach for the coffee pot when she heard a creak behind her.

Turning around Sue froze.

Standing in front of her refrigerator, her container of leftover chicken in his hand was a man. A naked man. covered in mud and dirt. A seven-foot scarred naked man, who looked like he was ready to kill.

Not knowing what else to do, Sue screamed. Praying one of her children or the pack would hear her.

Bella was scared. She had never been so terrified.

Standing In a field was Edward, his eyes red and his teeth barred.

Across from him coming out of the brush was sam. Her sam .

Human Sam. His eyes yellow and muscles taunt.

He was glaring at Edward. But to make it worse standing in the middle of the field was a women. She had long brown hair and pale skin. In her arms was dark brown child. The women was her.

Edward roared and so did Sam.

"She is mine!" Edward snarled.

Sam didn't speak.

Right before her eyes, Edward ran, appearing before Sam and ripping his throat out.

Bella screamed, her child falling out of her arms.

Sue held the coffee pot in her hand as her husband stormed downstairs, gun in hand.

"Sue? What- "Charlie froze. His eyes bugging out of his head as he looked at the naked and scarred man standing in his kitchen.

"Hey! Just what the heck do you think you're doing? You need to get out now!"

The man didn't move.

Charlie was going to say something else but froze when he heard a blood curling scream from upstairs.

Before they could stop him or say anything the man sped up the stairs, an inhuman growl releasing from his lips.

Sue gasp.

Was this man… a wolf?

With hurried steps Sue grab the phone and called Billy.

"Billy! Its sue! We need the pack! they must get here now! Send a wolf that's not on patrol to get them!"

Charlie was terrified and yet angry. Someone had broken into his house and his daughter was screaming bloody murder.

Not to mention his other daughter was on patrol and his son was sleeping at a friend's. He swore he could never get one days peace around here. To make it worse, the man was taller and stronger then him. The guy had to be about 7 ft and with those muscles, he'd probably break his spine.

"Stop!" Charlie yelled as the man burst into Bella's room. He let out a few warning shots, but they were ignored.

"Charlie!" sue screamed.

"I'm fine! Sue! He went into Bella's room! Call the pack!"

Charlie followed the guy but was stopped as he noticed the door was locked. He tried to push but it wouldn't budge.

His daughter screamed again. This time a "NO!" vibrating through the air.

Charlie shot the doorknob off and burst into the room.

The scene before him had Charlie frozen with his mouth hanging open. He heard hurried footsteps but ignored them.

"Charlie?!" Jacob called tentatively. Paul, Jared and embry were behind him.

Charlie however hushed them and pointed to what had him in shock.

There in Bella's room sitting on her bed, was the naked man but in his arms was Bella. She was crying and clinging to the man's chest.

"no. no. Sam. Sam please don't die. Don't die… dont leave me Sam." She sobbed.

"Did she say Sam? As in Sam- "

Charlie cut Jacob off with a hand in the air.

"I think you need to gather the elders. Paul and embry will stay here. I have no idea why Sam is here now, but it kind of explains why Bella was so worked up about Sam last night."

"Uhm chief… they're gone…" embry suddenly said as he looked around him.

Charlie turned around and gasp. His daughter and the supposed feral wolf were no longer on the bed but completely gone from sight. The window being open showing the only way out.

"Darn it! Jacob can you guys go after them!" Charlie asked as they rushed down the stairs. Sitting at the table looking worried was sue and next to her a concerned Emily, Leah, and Seth.

"Charlie. Slow down. We cant just go chasing after Sam. He's the alpha… and there's something you don't know…"

"Well, the guy has my daughter! Weren't you the ones who said he was unstable. What else is there to know!?"

Jacob sighed.

"Sam has some weird power over us as a pack. He can control us just by being in his presence. If he wants us to freeze in place, he can make it happen. He only ever did it once but… if he sees us as a threat…. Things could go bad…"

Charlie swallowed. only his daughter could attract such danger.
