Chapter 8: conversations and revelations.
It was the crashing of waves and leaning into Sam's heat that finally had Bella breathing properly.
She had never been so terrified. Ok that wasn't true, but the dream. It still had her shaking.
A rumble from Sam had her relax.
"… I was so scared. I was having a nightmare. Edward… he… he killed you." she swallowed as she looked into Sam's dark eyes.
Bella could see his eyes widen in understanding. A snarl vibrated through the air, as Sam clutched her tighter.
Bella put her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat.
"Im afraid to lose you. I know you're a wolf, I know your strong. I believe in your strength. But Edward can be obsessive and selfish, and I don't know if he's truly gone. If any of them are truly gone! And were having a pup and im afraid I won't know what to do. With Edward the possibility of kids and marriage wasn't an option. But with you the possibilities are endless, Sam, I love you. I love you with everything I have. The love I had with Edward was superficial. With you its real. And I get so angry with the pack and the elders! I know your accident was horrible but that doesn't excuse the tribe leaving you helpless."
By the end of her spill, Bella was crying and to her shock, Sam was too. At least his eyes were tearing up.
With warm hands. Sam cupped her face.
" I….w… ill… l..o..ve.. and p..r..o..t..ect..you."
He then kissed her soft, gentle, and reassuring.
…
"Sam, honey as nice as this is, I can hear your stomach growling. Are you hungry?" Bella asked "Hungry." Sam repeated.
Bella laughed.
"Alright, now, I have no idea why I'm still in my pajamas and your naked, but the air feels tense. Like being home is not the answer right now. But I do have a back up plan. Come on Sam."
As Bella guided Sam into the woods, she motioned for him to phase.
"Can you phase Sam? Like into your wolf form?"
Sam cocked his head and said "wolf."
"Yes, wolf Sam."
Within Seconds. Sam was on four legs instead of two. He laid down so Bella could get on.
"Oh… you want me to ride wolf back?" Sam's tail wagged.
"oh, alright but not too fast." Bella smirked.
Sam stopped as they approached the tree line. Bella had given him vague directions, but he found what she had been looking. As Sam let her down and phased back, Bella grabbed his hand.
"I haven't been here since I was eleven. By the time I turned twelve, we had moved in with my new family. But since dad, is the chief in forks, he had to have a resident address in forks. He rents it out now as a vacation home or apartment. Right now, its empty for the weekend but dad always made sure to keep it stocked with food and clothes for emergencies. Lets go check it out."
The couple walked up to the house and Bella reached down into the drainage pipes. She then pulled out a golden key.
Unlocking the doors, Bella felt pass memories weigh upon her. Some good and some bad. She had only ever seen her father cry twice. When her mother left and when uncle harry died. "Welcome to my childhood home…"
Sam's nostrils flared as he took in the new scent.
"Nothing like the apartment in Seattle or the home in la push. This place became really depressing after a while. It was Sue who convinced dad to repaint. I like the yellow, its reminds me of the sun."
Bella then led Sam upstairs to her father's old room. Hidden farther back in his closet was a pair of black sweatpants and a white t-shirt.
"Perfect! I hope these fit!" Bella cheered, but she frowned as Sam look at the clothes in fear.
"Oh, don't worry babe, I know… this is all new and frightening. It's scary for me too you know. So many changes and adjustments in such a short time. We will figure this out."
With that said, Bella helped Sam into the jogging pants and t-shirt.
"I'm sorry if it itches the wolf… but its freezing outside. And I know your body temperature can probably handle it… it's just… we must get you back to normal… you shouldn't be sleeping in caves and out in the cold. You deserve to have a warm bed and someone to come home too. Besides I was thinking this morning on my run, I don't think you trust anyone very much do you Sam?" she questioned as she walked downstairs.
He followed and to her surprise answered.
"…..no. They… don't… trust… me."
"Your right, they don't. and that's not your fault. We just… show them that there is nothing to fear. Like maybe, we can show up together at one of the pack events, my sister says they do a lot of things together. Or maybe… in a few days, we can have dinner with my parents? What do you think? I just don't want you to be alone anymore."
By now, Bella was rummaging through the refrigerator and pulling various items out and placing them on the counter.
As she began to cook, she felt strong arms wrap around her waist and Sam's head resting on her shoulder.
"I have you….. not alone anymore."
Bella felt her heart jolt. She leaned into Sam as she cut up the pieces of meat and mixed the eggs.
"And I agree. We are together… but we also must communicate with other people. But before we get to that, what are we? Like… what does your wolf see us as?"
Sam didn't hesitate.
"Our chosen mate."
He then played with the two braids he had put in her hair the night before.
"Your chosen mate. I like that. and… wolves mate for life?" she questioned. She knew she was being insecure. but after Edwards stunt, she needed the validation.
Sam growl and pushed his pelvis into hers.
"No doubt. Mine." He growled as he licked her bite mark.
"Mm. Sam. I get it. I get it. I'm yours no doubting. You won't leave me. I understand."
After a moment, Sam gave her some space, but she could feel his eyes on her.
"Do you have any names for our pup? I was thinking if it's a girl-"
Sam cut her off.
"No girl."
Bella turned.
"Our pup won't be a girl?"
Sam shook his head.
"First pup, always boy. Alpha's son."
"So, your saying because you're the Alpha, our firstborn will be a boy?"
"Yes." He answered.
Bella was quick to flip the omelet and plate it for she and Sam.
Sitting down, she continued her questions.
"Well, now that you've said that I've been thinking. In the wild, only the alpha male and the alpha female are the ones to have pups… is that something the pack follows?"
Sam stared at her in confusion before his eyes lit with recognition.
"Alpha and alpha's mate, pups first, pack follows."
"So, your saying that since you're the alpha, I'm your mate and only we can have pups first. Once we have pups then the pack can have pups?"
"Yes."
"ohh… so… its like. Alpha, Beta's, and omega's?" she asked as she handed a fork and a napkin.
Sam looked at the fork strangely before he hesitantly picked it up. Even after being lost to the wolf for so many years, it seemed his memory was still intact. This was a good sign.
"One alpha. One beta. Only pups omega's no threat to pack."
"Ok, so your saying that there is only one alpha, one beta and the pups are seen as omega's because they don't threaten the pack hierarchy?"
Once again, Sam nodded and forked up a omelet but instead of putting it in his mouth he aimed it for hers.
"Sam?"
"Mate needs to gain weight. Too skinny. No sick. Need both mate and pup strong."
Bella grinned.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm eating. Give me that fork. Do you like the omelet?"
"Protein." Sam spoke as he watched her chew.
As soon as she swallowed, he dug in to his own.
"How long has it been since you've watched tv?" Bella asked as she and Sam curled up on the couch.
It was obvious too big for Sam to spread comfortably but he didn't seem to care. He still picked her up and placed her in his lap.
".. long… time…"
"I hope this isn't too much or over stimulating. I just… I just want to help…"
Sam wrapped his arms around her and pulled her a little tighter to him.
"Yours. Mine. Ours." He rumbled.
"Thank you, Sam., You're the best thing that's ever happened to me."
Sam purred.
"what's your favorite color Sam?"
"Orange… sunrise… sunset."
"Really! That must be nice to see the sunrise and sunset with supernatural eyes. Mine is purple. Well, purple and black. Ever since I met you, black seems to have incorporated itself into my daily life. "
It was then a strange sound emerged from Sam. It was something of a rumble mixed with an odd vibration.
A light bulb came on in Bella's mind as she realized he was laughing.
Her Sam was laughing. A sound she never thought she'd hear. "What? what's so funny?" Bella giggled.
"Wolf is black."
The humor of the situation reveled itself to Bella as she laughed.
Sam's Wolf was black. Bella was Sam' s mate hence black incorporating itself into her life.
"oh my gosh… that funny Sam. So, your favorite color is sunset or sunrise orange. Can your remember what your favorite food is?"
Sam laid his head on Bella's shoulder. He seemed to like doing that.
"..your… food."
"My food is your favorite food? Ok, ill have to introduce you to more stuff. Oh, I wanted to ask you. since our pup is a boy, do you have a name?"
"Kazuki. One hope"
"Kazuki. Kazuki Samuel Uley." She repeated. She liked it. And it made sense. She and her pup were Sam's do over.
"Bella… Uley."
"What?" she asked seriously as she maneuvered herself to look at him.
"Bella and Kazuki Uley. My family."
"Yes. We are your family." Bella said as she swallowed back tears.
The couple then turned there eyes back to the movie. However, neither were watching it.
…
"Any sign of them?!" Billy asked stressfully. He and the elders were sitting in the clearwater swan house conferring about what to do with
Sam.
Joshua stayed silent.
His son sighed in frustration as he and the remaining pack not on patrol sat down.
"no. nothing. That's the weird thing about Sam. He can disappear without a trace. That's always confused us. He track us, but… we cant track him unless he wants to be found."
"Or when we need him." Embry said as he dug around the fridge.
"How did he get in here in the first place." Old quill asked.
"Maybe Bella let him in?" Seth questioned
"But why would she do that? She doesn't even know him." Joshua asked finally speaking up.
"she's sympathetic and yet naïve. She doesn't understand how dangerous Sam can be." Jacob said bitterly as he clutched his drink.
"But… has Sam really done anything? Where's the proof?" Seth questioned.
Recently he had begun to question why the tribe was so anti Sam. He was their alpha right. He only had their best interest.
"Your such a child Seth. Sam is dangerous end of story." Jacob growled.
Seth shut his mouth. His sister was right. if Sam was there Alpha, shouldn't they be helping him. It seemed the pack was hurting him more.
In silence Seth ran out.
While he loved the pack and was grateful for them, Seth could see just how disorganized they were without there alpha being present.
On two legs he crept into the forest. While the pack was looking for Sam, Seth began to look his sister.
Unlike the women he'd been around, his sister especially recently had a much stronger and sweeter scent. So sweet, his wolf wanted to rub himself on her. Not in a weird way but just to be near her.
Seth followed his nose. Apparently, he had the best sniffer beside his alpha of course.
It didn't take long for the morning December air to blow Bella's scent near him. With excitement. Seth followed it.
The scent lead him all the way to forks, surprisingly to his sisters old house. The lights were on, and he could hear the tv. Plus, the smell of food. He could also hear two, no wait, three heartbeats.
As he got closer, Bella's scent became stronger.
He was quick to phase and put on some shorts.
"b? b?" he called
With hesitation Seth knocked on the front door. However, when the door opened it wasn't Bella.
It was his alpha. His human alpha and Seth could see every. Single. Scar.
Immediately Seth bowed, his neck exposed.
"pup."
His alpha's voice washed over. As if by magic, Seth found himself relaxed and calm. Not a trace of fear.
"come.."
