The chase was on with Sam at the front. Right now, the pack had one goal.

Kill the enemy and without remorse .

Jacob's confusion could be felt through the pack. He didn't understand why Sam was here when he could handle the pack. Sam only came around during emergencies. This wasn't it.

Jacob's questioning thoughts were quieted by Sam's simple growl. He wanted Jacob to shut up and focus.

It was an order. One Jacob couldn't break. With their alpha laying down the law, the pack regained their focus following the scent of vampire.

It didn't take them long as they found Paul and Jared surrounded by four male vampires.

Sam was the first to attack, the pack following his lead.

The vampires were outmatched. It was four against seven.

"Jack! Were outmatched!" one of the vampires hissed.

"Im not leaving! We need the girl!" the other one answered back.

"Screw the girl! I want to live!"

However, the vampires life was cut short as the wolves surrounded them, taking no prisoners. Only one was left. He was currently sitting in a tree looking fearful and yet determined.

"If you all would just give us the girl, we wouldn't have any issues. We could all go about our day." He tried to reason.

The pack let out an angry growl, as they began to surround the tree but to their surprise, Sam gave an angry growl that silenced them all.

Within seconds Sam was on two legs looking up at the nomad.

"What girl?"

The nomad stared down at Sam in fear but gave him an answer.

"Our master hasn't given us a name. all we have is a description and a scent. She has brown eyes, brown hair and a heart shape face."

"Why?"

"We don't know. Were only following orders, now give us the girl and we won't have an issue."

Instead of answering Sam took one giant leap and landed in the tree next to the nomad. With lighting reflexes, Sam snatched the nomad and broke his neck, throwing the crumbled body in the flame that they had built for the others.

With the threat gone, Sam phased back, ignoring the look of his pack. without saying anything Sam motioned them to follow him.

Sam led them to a clearing close to the reservation before he stopped and sat on his haunches.

As they settled in Jacob allowed his thoughts to be known.

This is insane! They are obviously after Bella. We need to go after them . Find there hide ou t!

What? that be setting us up for war, Bella should just stay on the reservation . Its obvious she's there target so, she should just stay on the reservation until we get this solved. Paul argued It was then the pack began to argue amongst themselves. Each one believing that their idea was best.

Sam sat back and watched for a while. This was how the pack functioned . In chaos, arguments, and snarling.

All because of him. Sam had a lot of hurt and pain and had to admit to his shortcomings. In his pain, he failed to unite his pack, the way it should be.

Well, right now, his mate was at risk and cub were at risk. She would always be at risk but the least he could do to make it easier on her was to make sure his pack was functioning properly.

Sam felt his wolf growl. This was the difference between he and the man. Before his mate showed up, the man and wolf had been imbalanced. Sam had given full authority to the wolf. The man was not involved. But now that his mate had opened his eyes, he knew that the man and the wolf needed to be balanced. There was a time for everything. Their would be a time when the man was needed more then the wolf and vice versa.

Sam closed his eyes, drowning out the pack. with one word on his mind, he sent an order to the pack. His pack.

QUIET!

The order was so strong that the pack bowed before him, their necks or bellies exposed in submission. All except for one.

Sam sighed as he looked at Jacob. Jacob black, his unintentional second. That was going to change.

Submit, Sam ordered.

It didn't take long for Jacob to buckle down at the weight of his alpha.

As much as he didn't want to.

Sam prowled towards him; teeth barred and ears flat.

Your time as Beta is over . You will be my third .

He heard Jacob growl, but the power of the alpha order kept him locked in place. Sam walked past Jacob to a quiet Seth who was laying on his belly. Seth's tale wagged at the sight of him.

You will be my second. My beta.

As soon as he said it, the transfer took place. The authority that once belonged to Jacob now belong to Seth clearwater.

The pack watched in shock. Seth? He was only sixteen, everyone else were adults, why would they listen to a child.

Hearing there thoughts, Sam left out a deafening roar.

My decision is final. We will be one pack, no longer divided. Division will be the death of all of us. The rest of you go home, I will patrol for the night. Seth, you will go and guard Bella.

As soon as he thought her name, the pack began to ask questions in concern, but Sam silenced them.

Go about your nights.

Bella shivered as she looked out her window. This was starting to become a pattern. Sam would make love to her and disappear. But this time was different. Their love making became more fervent. As if Sam was making love to her for the last time. As if he were leaving her and never going to see her again.

Swallowing hard, she wiped the tears that tried to escape her.

Sam wasn't Edward. He wouldn't abandon her. She trusted him. More than anything.

After some calming breathes. She caressed her stomach; it was still flat but firmer than before.

"Don't worry Kazuki, daddy will be home soon. let's get something to eat."

As she descended the stairs, Bella let out a shriek as she saw her father and Joshua Uley sitting at the kitchen table.

"Dad?" she called as she wrapped the robe, she was wearing around her a little tighter.

"Bella! There you are! Do you know how worried I have been!" her father shouted as he pulled her into a hug.

"Hi dad, Mr. Uley im sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. I was having a horrible night mate and Sam saved me. how did you find me?"

"Im a cop Bella. Im not stupid. If you didn't go anywhere on the reservation, then your last bet was here."

"of course, it was." Bella chuckled. "Can I get you guys anything?" "no. I want you sit down, so we can talk." Her father insisted.

Bella did as such and stared into his eyes. Her father was angry, afraid, and confused.

"What is it dad?"

"Well, are you and Sam… together?" he questioned

Mr. Uley snorted next to her.

"Oh, for crying out loud, Charlie. My son and your daughter are screwing. Why are you frustrating yourself more?"

"Because I need to know for myself. just because they're screwing doesn't mean there together, he could just be using her for all we know!"

Mr. Uley went say something, but Bella interrupted him.

"First of all, my sex life is no ones business. Lets get that out the way. Second of all, Sam would never hurt me and third, he and I are in a relationship. Especially since were making the both of you grandfathers."

Bella's revelation was met with Silence.

Dead. Silence.
