CHAPTER 369
Daniel was standing in the cage and looking out around him at all the velociraptors peering in. None of them moved except for Falcon. The utahraptor stepped with heavy feet towards the door to the cage. There she stopped and glared in at Daniel.
Daniel wiped blood from his face and straightened himself. He and Falcon exchanged hard looks for quite a time.
Finally Daniel said, "its hard to tell who belongs on what side of the fence anymore, isn't it?" Daniel raised his arms at his sides. "Well?"
Falcon remained where she was for another long moment, then she took her first step into the cage. Her feathers bristled as she moved toward Daniel. Daniel could feel every step the utahraptor took trembling the dirt beneath his feet. Falcon walked right up to him where she stopped nose to nose. She did not flinch, and neither did he. The utahraptor snarled her teeth and stared. Daniel remained unmoving.
The next thing Daniel knew, he had been kicked so hard by Falcon that he flew back and struck the cage wall. In another instant he had crumpled to the ground. He sat against the rear of the cage with his head hanging. His body was slumped. His arms drooped beside him. He couldn't feel his appendages. Daniel was fairly certain some part of his spine had shattered. As he stared at his belly he saw a length of intestine trailing from a gaping wound in his gut. Daniel followed it with his eyes as it trailed down his legs, over his boots, and across the dirt. He found that he was able to lift his head just enough to see the far end of his entrails coiled around one of Falcon's massive killer claws. The utahraptor flicked her foot a few times, and it dropped into the dirt. With less than a glance Falcon turned and walked out of the cage.
Daniel dropped his head and started to chuckle. He whispered, "he who makes a beast out of himself…"
Daniel expired mid sentence.
