Chapter 45
Watching and waiting had never been something Faison liked doing. He also understood it was something that needed to happen to have a plan go off without any hitches. The waiting was harder than normal this time. There will never be anything as important as getting Anna Devane away from Port Charles once and for all and for them to finally start their life together.
That third pass was the sign Faison was waiting for. That was the sign it was all clear in the area. He went by at a normal pace, there was no pause, and there was no slowing or stopping. It's time.
Faison took a step away from the tree line. There was no hastiness in his actions. He knew what had to be done now. Silently he moved toward the small house. There's a confidence in his movements. Anna will not be expecting this. She needs to be with him and they will be happy this time especially since she has already done the hard part and gotten her daughter. With ease, he was at the back door and working on the lock.
…
Frisco had spotted Faison as he walked from the trees. Had he been there long? "Look, there he is." Frisco pointed him out to Mac.
Mac was watching him move towards the house when his sat phone rang. "Hello."
"We are to the back of the house and have eyes on Faison. Be aware, we are to the back side of the house and have eyes on Faison."
Then the line went dead. Mac looked at the phone for a second then back at Frisco. "Robby and Anna must be in the tree line. They have eyes on Faison and the back of the house."
"You better let Sean know this is going down." Frisco reminded him. Mac nodded and called in quickly while Frisco kept an eye on Faison.
"He's got the door open. I'm going around the front, watch my back." They both got out of the car. Mac found cover where he could watch what was happening while Frisco moved toward the front of the house.
From cover, Mac could see both Frisco at the front of the house and Robert and Anna move towards the house from the back. It occurred to him, he has to be aware of any cars in the area. If the one that has been circling returns that could cause problems.
…
Hearing the back door rattling as someone tried to get in had sent Sam looking for cover. It had been set up that the smaller bedroom would be used for hiding, and there were extra weapons and ammunition. The things Tiffany had actually been bringing here. She locked and bolded the door then went and shuttered the window. It was more just boarding them up and that would mostly just slow someone down but it was better than nothing.
Sam knew there would be people in the area watching but she had no idea who or where they were. How long will it take for backup to get here once the person is inside?
"Anna, I know you are in here. I saw you and your daughter. Thank you for getting her for us."
Sam could not believe that it was Faison who had entered the house and not one of his henchmen. Taking a deep breath she steadied her nerves, she positioned herself in a corner to be away from the window and the door in case of gunfire. This is what she is here for. To be the bait to bring Faison here and it has worked. Pulling her sidearm, Sam now waited to see how long before Faison figured out what room she was in.
"Anna, there's no need to hide. We know this is what's meant to be. You are meant to be with me. There is no question about that. Why else would I be here the night you picked up your daughter? It's meant to be."
Hearing his voice made her skin crawl. Poor Anna having that man obsessed with her Sam thought.
"Oh, have you gone to bed? There will be time for rest once we are on our way."
The doorknob rattled and Sam's breath caught for a moment.
"Anna. You and I both know there is no point resisting. Come out, we should speak face to face."
Suddenly gunfire broke out. Sam knew it wasn't coming from inside. So what was happening? Who was doing the shooting and why?
…
Quickly diving for cover Frisco and Mac tried to identify where the shots were coming from. Then they saw the car that had been circling earlier, parked farther up the street. It must be the people that were inside that car. Then they saw one man advance to their location then take cover behind another parked car.
"Keep your head down, two people came out of that car." Frisco had his weapon drawn and was watching for them to come out of hiding.
Hearing gunshots Robert and Anna had gotten low but both felt certain it wasn't them the shots were aimed at. They made it to the back door, knowing Faison was already inside. Whatever was happening out front might be a distraction for him to leave.
As they crept closer Faison started to speak again. "Anna, we need to leave before they get any closer."
"NO!"
Faison spun around, pulling his gun with his left hand as he did. There Anna and Robert stood guns drawn. Seeing Robert alive and standing with Anna made his blood boil. "No! This can't be. You're dead Scorpio."
"Only as dead as you are."
Faison couldn't be sure who to point his gun at. He wanted to kill Scorpio but he couldn't trust Anna not to kill him if he did.
"This ends tonight!" Anna told him.
Just then a shot rang out and they heard glass shatter nearby. Faison squeezed off a shot but missed his target. Anna and Robert fired in response.
One in his right knee, and one in his left shoulder. Faison lay sprawled on the floor in pain. It was fast and clean, he isn't going anywhere but he will answer for what he's done. Anna walked over and kicked his gun away, covering him as Robert checked him for other weapons. "You can come out, Sam," Anna called.
"I've already called Sean," Sam responded as she opened the door. As if on cue police lights filled the early morning sky. It wouldn't be long before the people doing the shooting on the outside would be stopped.
"Help me, damn it." Faison could barely move, his body in shock.
Anna was holding pressure on his knee, Robert on his shoulder. Sam had called for an ambulance. "You're gonna have a hell of a time holding your fork never mind a gun. I see you aren't fully healed from the last time I disarmed you." Robert poked Faison's right shoulder to prove his point.
That bastard got him right in the scar, Faison was seething with anger, had he been that close to getting Anna? That woman was not Anna! It was Scorpio that shot him. Then his mind got cloudy, the pain starting to hit him as the shock wore off.
There was a lot of action, people coming in. Medical personnel took over for Robert and Anna. After getting cleaned up a bit, Robert took Anna's hand, he could tell she was a little overwhelmed so he led her out the back door. He could only imagine what was going through her head. They had just stopped Faison and they knew the injuries they inflicted would leave him with permanent mobility issues. He won't die from his injuries. Death would have been too good for him.
Anna put her hand to her head as she let out a breath. They had stopped him. They had stopped Cesar Faison. Tears started to roll down her cheeks, as a quivering breath slipped through her lips. "We did it."
Anna looked up at Robert a small smile on her face, then he noticed her weight shift. Quickly putting his arms out to catch her. "Anna, are you all right luv?"
"Darling, I don't feel right." She had wanted to hug Robert but had suddenly felt weak.
"Were you hit? Anna, are you bleeding?" Robert looked down at her body and in the dim light could not see any blood anywhere. "Come on, we're going to the car and I'm taking you to GH."
Anna nodded, leaning on him for support they made their back to their car. What had happened in that little house was not even in their minds. Faison has been stopped, now they get to focus on themselves and right now that meant getting Anna looked at, for more than one reason.
…
Watching them load Faison into the back of an ambulance Sean walked over to the officer about to climb in and escort him to the hospital. "Hey! You make sure the cuff on the good wrist and good leg stay on. You got that. I will meet you at the hospital. I am the only one to touch them. No other officer, no other agent, no one. Understood."
"Yes, sir."
He turned as another officer approached. "Commissioner, we have the three guns from inside."
"Alright, get them to forensics. You will find the prints of Robert Scorpio, Anna Scorpio and Cesar Faison on them. Sam has already given her witness statement."
"If you don't mind me asking, where'd they go? I mean if Robert and Anna were here, where did they go?"
"I don't know but they will check in. Frisco," he called across the yard. "Any word yet?"
"No, their car's not here now. They might have gone to get Robin."
"Keep me posted, I want to know when they reappear."
"Will do Sean." He turned and saw all the activity. "I know you're going to have your hands full here for a while. Why don't Mac and I head down to the hospital and make sure Faison doesn't somehow slip away."
"I'd appreciate that, Frisco. So would Robert and Anna. Thanks." Sean then turned and started calling out orders to the officers there.
Frisco walked over to Mac. He had been grazed by a bullet in all the commotion but had been seen by an EMT, it was a superficial wound. "Let's go get that looked at. Sean wants us to hang out at the hospital until he can make it there."
"Make sure Faison doesn't pull a disappearing act." Mac wanted to be there for that same reason. "Let's get out of here."
…
"Can I get a stretcher over here?" Robert called as he walked through the ER doors carrying a weak Anna in his arms.
Bobbie looked over, "ROBERT!" She was too stunned to move for a moment. When she got to Robert, Anna was already on a stretcher..
"She's pregnant, Bobbie. I think she might have been hit. There is some blood on her back."
"Anna's in good hands." She took his hand and put her other hand on his shoulder. "Come sit over here. I need to tell them what you told me then I need more details about what happened."
Bobbie was not the only one working and was shocked to see Robert Scorpio standing in the waiting area. Alan walked over after getting briefed on Anna's condition. "I don't know what's happening, but it's good to see you. I'm glad you and Anna are alive."
They shook hands, "Hi Alan, how is she?"
"Anna's going to be fine. There was a small scratch on her back but it doesn't appear to be a bullet wound. She needs to rest, we are running tests to confirm the pregnancy and the baby's health. She overdid it today. If Anna is pregnant you know she can't be stressing her body. Even being pregnant is a risk for her."
"We didn't plan it. We've been trying to be careful. I'm making sure she's getting good meals and vitamins. It's," Robert needed to say it out loud. "Alan we stopped Cesar Faison tonight. He could be on his way here any second. We had to stop him. We had to."
"Yes, you did." Alen then saw Frisco and Mac arrive. "Hey, this guy needs a friend." Alan had no idea what was going on or how Robert and Anna were alive and here but hearing that Faison is involved, as well, made it make more sense than it probably should.
Mac came over, "What happened, why are you here?" This explains where they had vanished to.
"Anna, she was weak after all the excitement, then on the way here she passed out. There was blood on her clothes but Alan says she's going to be fine but they are running tests." There was a distracted look in Robert's eyes that Mac noticed.
"That's good. They need to make sure she's alright. What else is going on?"
"Yeah." Robert nodded. All he could think about was getting to Anna. He wanted to be at her side, he wanted to know she was alright. Mac just smiled, his brother was very distracted at the moment. He can get answers later.
It wasn't long before Faison was wheeled into the ER. With the amount of excitement at having all three of these "dead" people show up it was odd how distracted Robert was. He wasn't interacting with people trying to talk to him. If a doctor came over he wanted an update not to visit.
When Sean got there and finished talking to the doctors he wandered over to the waiting area. "How's it going, old buddy?" He glanced over at Mac when he didn't get a response. Mac shrugged. "Robert, what's going on?"
"How's Anna?" Robert asked sounded as distracted as he looked.
"I don't know, I just got here."
"Oh, um… I just want to be with her."
He could see how on edge Robert was and knew there was more going on here than any of them knew. "Was she hurt?" Sean was starting to worry more. No one had told him why Anna was being looked at just that this is where they ended up.
"She's pregnant. Sean, we didn't plan it. We know the risk." It wasn't often that Sean saw this kind of concern in his friend's eyes.
"She'll be alright, they both will." Then Sean grinned, "So when did this happen?"
"What?" Robert actually looked a little confused by the question.
"How far along do you think she is?" Sean knew he had to get Robert thinking about something other than Anna being poked and prodded by doctors.
"Oh, um. I don't know for sure." Robert started thinking back at what they'd been through. When things could have happened. "Before Alex became part of our travelling circus." Then he smiled thinking back to the beautiful time they shared when no one knew where they were. He liked the idea of them making a baby during that time. When it was just about them and their love for each other.
"Excuse me, Robert." He turned to see Amy smiling at him. She couldn't believe everything that had happened since just before her shift started this morning. "Anna is asking for you."
"Take me to her." He was already up and moving.
They were halfway to her room when a door opened up the hall from them. "I want Robert. He needs to be here." Was clearly heard from inside the room.
"Anna! I'm here." He hurried to the door, then stepped inside. "I'm here." He stepped over to the bed and took her hand. "Are you okay?"
"Yes, we both are." She smiled up at him, "We were right and baby is alright. They do want me to stay in bed for now."
Robert pulled a chair over and sat down beside her, "I'll stay right beside you." He put his head on her chest, "Anna," he closed his eyes and put his hand on her stomach. "I was worried, Luv."
"We're okay. We are going to be alright." Anna stroked Robert's hair. "We stopped him."
"We did. We're alive again." Robert grinned to himself.
"Yes, we are."
Being together again, they both relaxed and were asleep within minutes. The bad guy has been stopped. Their friends will all know they are alive before long. They get to go back to the house, back to their life, back to Robin. Back to the new life they had just started before all of this happened.
