Chapter 2: The Championship Battle Continues!

Fourteen years ago...

At the very top of Mount Wyndon, situated north of Hammerlocke and south of the bustling city of Wyndon, a young trainer with vibrant purple hair stood determined. Leon, clad in a rugged winter coat, stared up at the looming structure ahead—the Pokémon League. The massive battle palace crowned the peak of the mountain, a symbol of ultimate strength and skill. Leon's journey had brought him here, through the grueling Victory Road, with his newly evolved Charizard by his side. The two shivered in the immobilizing blizzard, but their internal flames burned brightly, undeterred by the harsh cold.

The towering palace loomed before them, its victorian glass doors gleaming under the faint moonlight. With a firm push, Leon stepped inside, Charizard following close behind. The atrium greeted them with flickering lights that illuminated four ornate doors, each leading in a different direction. The crackling of the lights echoed in the cavernous space, unsettling the silence.

Leon's hand reached for his Pokéballs, tossing them into the air. One by one, his team emerged: Pikachu, Dragapult, Gyarados, Rhydon, and Haxorus. Charizard remained at his side, its orange tail flame casting a warm glow against the cold atmosphere.

"Pika!" Pikachu cried, leaping onto Leon's shoulder. The rest of the team stood battered, bruised from the trials of Victory Road.

Leon knelt, his fingers brushing across the Pokémon's weary forms. He rummaged through his backpack and pulled out several Full Restores, carefully healing each of them. One by one, their energy returned, and Leon gathered them into a circle.

"Alright, team," he began, his tone unusually serious. "You know how much we've been through to get here. Once we proceed, there's no turning back." He paused, his hand brushing over Pikachu's head. "I love all of you. If we fail, it's on me… not you. But we're not going to fail. Are we?"

His Pokémon stared at him silently, absorbing his words. Charizard let out a low, encouraging growl. Pikachu's cheeks sparked faintly "Kaaachu" They were ready.

Leon recalled his team, save for Charizard, and approached the door on the far left. He pushed it open, stepping into the first trial of the Elite Four.

Hours passed as Leon battled his way through the Elite Four. Each opponent pushed him and his team to their limits. By the time he faced the elderly Fairy-type master, Opal, his Pokémon were near their breaking point. But Leon's determination carried them through. With a triumphant cry from Haxorus, Opal's final Pokémon fell, and the battlefield fell silent.

Returning to the atrium, Leon found a new light illuminating the center of the room. Before him stood a massive double door, towering nearly forty feet tall. Its wooden surface was intricately carved, exuding an aura of ancient power. Leon hesitated for a moment, his breath visible in the cold air.

"This is it," he murmured.

Releasing his team once more, he gestured toward the door. "Guys, I'm going to need your help with this one."

Charizard and the others exchanged weary glances but nodded. Together, they pressed their bodies against the door.

"Push!" Leon shouted, gritting his teeth as the door creaked open inch by inch. The effort was monumental, but slowly, the door gave way, revealing a vast, cathedral-like chamber shrouded in darkness. As Leon and his team stepped forward, lights flickered on one by one, illuminating the grand arena ahead.

At the far end of the chamber sat an old man on a throne. His wiry frame was draped in simple robes, and his long white beard touched his chest. Despite his age, his eyes sparkled with a youthful vigor.

"Mustard," Leon said, his voice steady, though there was a flicker of excitement in his tone.

The old man grinned, his face wrinkling further as he rose slowly with the help of a wooden cane. "Lee, my dear boy!" he said warmly, his voice carrying both affection and pride. "You've come far… farther than most. Besting my colleagues is no small feat. Splendid! Absolutely splendid! But the real challenge begins now."

Leon took a step forward, Charizard growling softly at his side, its tail flame flaring in anticipation. "I've been waiting for this moment. Everything I've done… it's led me here. I won't let it go to waste."

Mustard chuckled, leaning slightly on his cane. "Such confidence! That's what I like to see. But let me tell you something, young man. The road doesn't end here, win or lose. It's not about the destination; it's the journey that shapes you." He tapped his cane lightly on the floor, his eyes twinkling. "Now then, show me how much you've grown! Let's see if you can claim my title."

Leon's gaze hardened, and a determined grin spread across his face. "I didn't come here to lose, Mustard. I'm ready."

Mustard's grin widened, his free hand reaching for a Pokéball on his belt. "Oh, I know you are. But are you ready for me? Let's find out. Go! Urshifu!"

A massive figure materialized on the battlefield, its imposing frame emanating an aura of raw strength. Urshifu let out a battle cry, the sound echoing through the chamber.

Leon turned to Pikachu, who had climbed back onto his shoulder. "You ready, buddy?"

"Pika!" Pikachu replied, sparks flying from its cheeks as it jumped to the battlefield.

Jason stood firm on the battlefield, his mind briefly flashing to the moment Boltund had transformed into Zapwulf. Across from him, Leon watched with a mixture of awe and thoughtfulness.

That kind of evolution... it's not something you just see anywhere, Leon thought, his eyes narrowing as he studied Jason. It's a reflection of the bond they share. Zapwulf didn't evolve because of battle alone—it evolved because Jason believed in it so deeply, and it responded to that trust.

Leon's fingers brushed over the next Pokéball on his belt, his expression softening for a brief moment. It reminds me of my own journey, of Charizard standing by me through everything. But this... this connection is rare, even among the greatest Trainers.

The thought spurred him on. He clenched his fist, a determined grin spreading across his face. "Alright, Jason," Leon said aloud, his voice ringing with both respect and challenge. "Show me what that connection can really do."

From the stands, Sonia watched intently, her sharp eyes narrowing as she observed Leon. She noticed the shift in his demeanor—a rare seriousness that even the roar of the crowd couldn't mask.

Leon's always been confident, even playful in battle, Sonia thought. But this is different. He's focused in a way I've hardly ever seen. Zapwulf must have really caught him off guard, but it's more than that. He respects Jason… he respects the bond they share.

She leaned forward, her fingers lightly gripping the edge of the railing. For Leon to get this serious, Jason's doing something remarkable out there. He might just have a real shot.

Back on the battlefield, Jason and Zapwulf prepared for the next exchange. Zapwulf's electric mane crackled with raw energy, the air around it shimmering with latent power. Jason pulled out his Rotom Phone, aiming it at the newly evolved Pokémon. The screen flickered as the Pokédex attempted to scan the unfamiliar creature.

"Rotom, analyze Zapwulf's moveset," Jason instructed.

The Rotom Phone buzzed. "Zapwulf. Moves: Thunder Fang, Ice Fang, Crunch, Thunder."

Jason's eyes sparkled with determination as he absorbed the information. "Thunder, huh? Perfect." His mind raced, formulating his next move. The bond they shared had given rise to Zapwulf's overwhelming strength, and now it was time to unleash it.

"Analyzing..." the Rotom Phone chimed. "Zapwulf. Type: Electric/Dark. This Pokémon has never been documented before. Its mane crackles with a unique electric charge that overwhelms opponents with both power and precision. Known for its apparent intense loyalty, Zapwulf only evolves from Boltund due to a significantly close bond between it and its trainer."

Jason's eyes widened. "Electric and Dark? That explains the mane and those piercing blue eyes." He smirked, glancing at Zapwulf. "Looks like you're even more of a powerhouse than I thought."

Zapwulf barked, its tail snapping like a thunderbolt as it crouched into a battle-ready stance. Across the field, Leon took note of Jason's growing confidence.

"That's some synergy you've got there," Leon called out, his tone steady. "But Gyarados and I have our own tricks. Gyarados, use Dragon Dance!"

The massive serpent-like Pokémon roared as it began to twist and sway, its movements growing sharper and more precise. Its body glowed faintly, a testament to the increase in both its power and speed.

Jason clenched his fist. "Zapwulf, we're not letting them get the upper hand! Let's hit them hard. Use Thunder Fang!"

Zapwulf let out a resounding howl as electricity surged through its body, its fangs crackling with energy as it lunged forward, aiming a Thunder Fang directly at Gyarados. The crowd gasped as the attack struck, the arena lighting up with a brilliant flash.

When the light faded, Gyarados emerged, visibly shaken but still standing. Leon's grin widened. "That was impressive, but Gyarados can take a hit. Now, let's show them the power of Hurricane!"

The serpent raised its head high, summoning a swirling vortex of wind that engulfed the battlefield. The winds roared as Zapwulf braced itself, digging its claws into the ground to maintain its footing. Jason shielded his eyes from the gale, calling out, "Hang in there, Zapwulf! We've got this!"

Zapwulf growled, its electric mane crackling as it resisted the storm, ready to counter at a moment's notice. Jason's eyes lit up with determination as he pointed toward the storm.

"Zapwulf, let's end this hurricane! Use Thunder!" he shouted.

Zapwulf howled loudly, the sound reverberating across the battlefield. Its mane flared with intense electricity, arcs of lightning spiraling upward into the dark clouds above. With a deafening roar, a massive bolt of lightning struck down from the sky, piercing through the swirling winds of the hurricane. The sheer force of the Thunder attack dispelled the storm in an instant, scattering the vortex and clearing the battlefield.

The crowd erupted into cheers as the winds died down, revealing Zapwulf standing tall, sparks of electricity still crackling around its form. Gyarados roared in defiance, shaking its massive body, but it was clearly rattled by the overwhelming display of power.

Jason clenched his fist triumphantly. "That's how we do it, Zapwulf!" he called, his voice filled with pride.

Across the battlefield, Leon winced as the winds dissipated, leaving Gyarados fully exposed. Without Hurricane to trap its opponents, this could get tricky, he thought, his mind racing to recalibrate his strategy. He clenched his jaw briefly before smirking, determined not to let his momentary setback show. "Well played, Jason," he called out, his voice carrying respect. "You're making this battle one for the ages."

Up in the stands, Sonia leaned closer to the railing. "Zapwulf's Thunder completely disrupted Leon's strategy," she said, her tone tinged with admiration.

Hop nodded, gripping the edge of his seat. "That's Jason for you!"

Marnie crossed her arms, her expression unreadable. "Yeah, but Leon's not the type to let somethin' like this shake 'im. Just you wait… he'll come up with somethin'."

Piers gave a low chuckle. "Still, mate's gotta admit, Zapwulf's got some serious bite to it. And it bein' a Dark-type? That's somethin' special. You don't see many Electric-types paired with that kinda energy."

Marnie glanced at him, raising an eyebrow. "You reckon that's why it's hittin' so hard? Dark's got a way of catchin' opponents off guard."

"Exactly," Piers nodded, crossing his arms. "It's got a whole new layer of tricks Leon probably didn't expect. Makes this battle even more worth watchin'."

Back on the battlefield, Jason's eyes gleamed with determination. "Zapwulf, time to switch it up! Use Ice Fang!" he commanded.

"Gyarados, counter with Waterfall!" Leon shouted.

The massive serpent roared, summoning a towering cascade of water that surged toward Zapwulf. The electric-dog Pokémon lunged forward, its frosty fangs glistening with icy energy. As the two attacks clashed, Zapwulf's Ice Fang tore through the oncoming Waterfall with shocking precision, freezing parts of the water mid-air as shards of ice scattered across the battlefield.

The collision left Gyarados momentarily stunned, its serpentine body coated in frost. But Zapwulf wasn't finished. Its mane crackled with dark energy as it landed, snarling aggressively, and without waiting for Jason's command, it lunged again at Gyarados, its jaws now glowing with a shadowy aura.

Jason's eyes widened. "Zapwulf, wait! Stand down!" he called, his voice tinged with frustration. But Zapwulf didn't listen, its primal instincts taking over as it delivered another devastating Crunch to Gyarados.

In the stands, Sonia leaned forward, her expression sharp. "It's gone berserk," she muttered. "That aura around its body… it's something I've never seen before." She pulled out her Rotom Phone, which buzzed and chirped as it attempted to analyze Zapwulf.

"Analyzing..." the Rotom Phone chimed. "Zapwulf's ability appears to be unique and shall be entered into the database as Belligerence. When Zapwulf's energy runs low, this ability triggers a berserk state, drastically increasing the power of its biting moves while causing it to act independently of its Trainer."

Sonia's brow furrowed. "Belligerence... that explains it. Every time it uses a biting move, that dark aura intensifies. The damage it's doing… it's off the charts, but Jason's lost control."

"But if it's not listenin' to Jason," Marnie pointed out, her brow furrowed. "That could be trouble if it keeps goin' like this."

Hop gripped the edge of his seat. "Come on, Jason, you've gotta get through to it!"

Back on the field, Jason's frustration mounted. "Zapwulf, stop! Listen to me!" he yelled, but the Pokémon's dark aura only seemed to intensify as it continued its relentless assault on Gyarados.

Leon, seeing the situation escalate, raised his voice. "Gyarados, into the sky! Get some distance!"

With a powerful beat of its tail, Gyarados propelled itself upward, soaring high above the battlefield. The massive serpent twisted through the air, its body glistening with frost from Zapwulf's earlier Ice Fang. Leon's eyes narrowed. Zapwulf can't follow as easily from the ground. This gives us a moment to regroup. But as Gyarados ascended, Zapwulf let out a feral, ear-splitting snarl, its dark aura flaring brighter than before. The Pokémon's primal instincts had fully taken over, and its berserk state seemed to intensify with the sight of its opponent attempting to evade.

Zapwulf's electric mane crackled violently, arcs of lightning streaking unpredictably into the air. It paced the battlefield, baring its icy fangs as if daring Gyarados to come back down. The energy coursing through it radiated unchecked aggression, and Jason's face twisted in frustration.

"Zapwulf, calm down! You're making it worse!" Jason shouted, but his voice barely seemed to register with the rampaging Pokémon. The crowd watched in stunned silence, the tension in the air palpable.

As Gyarados soared higher into the sky, Leon's sharp gaze flickered between his opponent and the enraged Zapwulf pacing below. "Jason," he called out, his voice steady but tinged with concern, "Zapwulf's completely out of control. Do you know what's driving it?"

Jason gritted his teeth, his eyes locked on the snarling form of his Pokémon. "I… I don't know," he admitted, frustration thick in his tone. "This isn't like Zapwulf. It's always been loyal, always listened. But now…" He clenched his fists, his voice rising with desperation. "It's like I'm not even here."

Leon's brows furrowed, his usual confident demeanor giving way to thoughtful concern. "It's not your fault," he said. "I've seen this kind of thing before. New evolutions can trigger abilities or instincts that even experienced Trainers struggle to handle. Zapwulf's ability might be pushing it beyond reason."

In the stands, Sonia nodded as if affirming Leon's observation. "He's right," she muttered to herself. "Zapwulf's berserk state is tied to that ability… Belligerence. It's amplifying its instincts, making it lash out uncontrollably."

Hop leaned forward, concern etched across his face. "But Jason's bond with his Pokémon is so strong. Shouldn't that help?"

"Normally, yes," Sonia replied. "But Belligerence must override that connection. It's pure, primal instinct right now."

Back on the battlefield, Leon's voice carried across the arena again. "Jason, you have to find a way to break through to it. Right now, it's not just a battle against me—it's a battle for Zapwulf's trust."

Jason's jaw tightened. "I know," he murmured, his voice barely audible. He took a deep breath, trying to steady his thoughts. "Zapwulf!" he shouted, his voice cutting through the air. "Listen to me! You don't need to fight alone. We're a team, remember? You and me against anything!"

For a moment, Zapwulf hesitated, its electric mane crackling less violently. Its piercing blue eyes turned toward Jason, a flicker of recognition shining through the dark aura that surrounded it. But as Gyarados roared from above, the berserk state surged back, and Zapwulf snarled once more, its claws tearing into the ground.

Leon's expression hardened, his voice calm but firm. "Gyarados, stay vigilant! We'll give Jason the time he needs."

The tension in the arena was palpable, every eye fixed on the chaotic struggle unfolding both on the field and within Zapwulf itself.

Jason's voice grew more desperate as he stepped closer, his hands trembling slightly. "Zapwulf, it's me! Look at me!" he shouted, his tone filled with a mix of command and pleading. "You don't have to fight like this! We've always faced things together—trust me, like you always have!"

Zapwulf snarled, pacing erratically as its electric mane crackled violently. Its claws raked the ground, leaving deep grooves in the dirt, but Jason's words seemed to chip away at its fury. For a moment, its pacing slowed, and its piercing blue eyes flickered with recognition.

"Come on, Zapwulf," Jason said, his voice softening but no less urgent. "I know you're scared. I'm here. You don't have to do this alone."

Zapwulf froze, its head snapping toward Jason. The dark aura around its body began to waver, flickering like a dying flame. Slowly, its growls quieted, replaced by a low, remorseful whine. Its electric mane dimmed slightly, and it took hesitant steps toward Jason, its ears flattening in an almost apologetic gesture.

Jason dropped to one knee, his expression softening as he extended a hand. "That's it… It's okay. You're okay."

Zapwulf approached cautiously, its head lowered. When it reached Jason, it nudged its head into his outstretched hand, a quiet whimper escaping its throat. Jason let out a shaky breath, running his hand gently over Zapwulf's mane. "You're my partner," he said quietly, his voice thick with emotion. "We'll figure this out, together."

The crowd erupted into cheers, the tension in the air breaking like a dam. In the stands, Sonia exhaled audibly. "He did it," she said, her voice filled with relief.

Next to her, Nessa's eyes softened as she watched Jason kneeling with Zapwulf. A faint blush dusted her cheeks as she murmured, almost to herself, "The way he loves his Pokémon... it's incredible. Even with all that rage, Zapwulf trusted him enough to calm down."

She couldn't take her eyes off the pair, her admiration deepening with every moment. Jason's unwavering dedication stirred something in her. She bit her lip, a thought crossing her mind that she quickly brushed aside. "It's not just strength," she added softly, her blush intensifying. "It's his heart. That's what makes him such a strong Trainer."

Piers crossed his arms, smirking. "Gotta hand it to the kid. That was gutsy. But if they want to keep that from happenin' again, they'll need some serious trainin'."

Marnie nodded slightly. "For now, though, at least Zapwulf knows Jason's still with it."

On the battlefield, Jason stood, his hand resting on Zapwulf's head. "Thank you," he murmured, meeting Zapwulf's now calm gaze. "Let's show Leon what we can really do... together"

In the stands, Piers turned to Marnie, his sharp eyes glinting with a mix of intrigue and concern. "You know, sis," he began, his voice low and thoughtful, "that Zapwulf reminds me of some o' the wild Obstagoon we've dealt with back home. They used to go berserk when cornered, remember?"

Marnie nodded, her arms crossed as she watched Zapwulf closely. "Yeah, but it took months to train 'em out of that instinct. Belligerence isn't somethin' you can just snap a Pokémon out of. It's like they get lost in their own power."

Piers leaned back slightly, a small smirk playing on his lips. "True, but we've got the patience for it. Think about it—what if we offer Jason to let us help train Zapwulf? With the right guidance, we could turn that ability into a strength instead of a liability."

Marnie glanced at him, her expression softening. "You really think we could handle somethin' that powerful?"

"Oi, we handled Obstagoon, didn't we?" Piers replied with a shrug. "Zapwulf's got the potential to be unstoppable with the right Trainer and strategy. And who better than us to teach it some discipline?"

Back to the battle, Leon took a deep breath, his sharp eyes focusing on Jason and Zapwulf. A small, genuine smile spread across his face. "Jason," he called out, his voice carrying a rare note of admiration, "that was impressive. The way you handled Zapwulf's aggression… that's not something every Trainer can do. It takes heart and trust, and you showed both in spades."

He adjusted his hat, his tone lightening. "If this is the kind of bond you have with your Pokémon, then I'm in for one incredible battle."

Jason looked up at Leon, his hand still resting on Zapwulf's mane. A determined grin spread across his face. "Thanks, Leon."

As if sensing the shift in the battlefield, Gyarados roared from above, its serpentine form twisting in midair before it began its descent. With a powerful swoop, it landed gracefully back on the ground, the impact sending a slight tremor through the arena. Its crimson eyes locked onto Zapwulf, who now stood tall, electricity crackling faintly across its mane.

Zapwulf lowered its stance, the once-chaotic energy now replaced by a calm yet fierce resolve. Jason gave a nod, his confidence surging as the crowd erupted once more in anticipation of the resumed battle.

Leon's voice rang out. "Gyarados, start with Aqua Tail!"

The serpentine Pokémon roared and lashed its massive tail, shimmering with a powerful stream of water, toward Zapwulf.

"Zapwulf, dodge and counter with Thunder Fang!" Jason called.

Zapwulf leaped to the side with agility, narrowly avoiding the crashing tail. Its fangs crackled with electricity as it lunged forward, clamping down on Gyarados's midsection. The impact sent sparks flying, and Gyarados roared in pain, twisting its body to shake off the smaller Pokémon.

"Gyarados, use Ice Fang!" Leon countered.

Gyarados's fangs glowed an icy blue as it lunged downward. Zapwulf barely evaded the attack, landing gracefully and skidding across the battlefield. Frost formed where Gyarados's bite had struck, showcasing the sheer force of the attack.

"Zapwulf, Discharge now!" Jason shouted.

Zapwulf's mane flared with electrical energy, releasing a wide burst of lightning that illuminated the entire arena. Gyarados roared again, its movements briefly hindered as the electricity coursed through its body.

Leon smirked, unshaken. "Gyarados, let's turn this around! Use Dragon Dance!"

Gyarados began to twist and sway rhythmically, its speed and power increasing with each movement. The crowd gasped at the display of grace and strength, the serpentine Pokémon seeming to grow even more formidable.

Jason's eyes narrowed. "Zapwulf, stay on your toes. Use Quick Attack!"

Zapwulf darted forward in a blur, its speed enhanced by the sudden burst of movement. It struck Gyarados's side, but the larger Pokémon barely flinched, its boosted stats absorbing the impact.

"Gyarados, Waterfall!" Leon commanded.

Gyarados summoned a towering surge of water that crashed down toward Zapwulf.

"Zapwulf, Ice Fang!" Jason countered.

As the water surged closer, Zapwulf leaped through the air, its icy fangs glowing. With precision, it bit into the cascading water, freezing parts of it mid-stream and neutralizing the attack. The crowd erupted in cheers as the two Pokémon circled each other, each waiting for the next command from their Trainers.

Leon's voice rang out, steady and commanding. "Gyarados, use Earthquake!"

The massive serpentine Pokémon reared back, its tail slamming into the ground with incredible force. The arena shook violently as fissures erupted, sending a devastating shockwave racing toward Zapwulf. Dust and debris filled the air as the sheer power of the attack drew gasps from the crowd.

Jason's eyes widened, but he quickly snapped into focus. "Zapwulf, counter with Thunder! Give it everything you've got!"

Zapwulf's mane flared brilliantly as it howled to the sky. Dark storm clouds gathered above, and an ear-splitting crack of lightning descended with blinding intensity. The bolt struck the ground with immense precision, colliding with the Earthquake's shockwave in an explosion of light and sound. The stadium shook as the two attacks clashed, sending waves of energy rippling through the battlefield.

When the smoke began to clear, both Gyarados and Zapwulf were still standing, but their movements were unsteady. Gyarados let out a guttural roar, its body trembling from the aftershock of Thunder's devastating power. Zapwulf, sparks still crackling faintly from its mane, staggered as its legs wobbled beneath it.

Leon's expression grew tense. "Gyarados, hold on!" he urged, his voice filled with determination.

Jason stepped forward, his fists clenched. "Zapwulf, stay strong! Just a little more!"

The crowd fell silent, the tension in the air almost suffocating. For a fleeting moment, it seemed as though both Pokémon might rally for another round. But then, with a final, exhausted growl, Gyarados collapsed onto the ground, its tail falling limp. At the same time, Zapwulf's legs gave out, and it slumped to the floor, fainted.

The referee stepped forward, raising both flags. "Gyarados and Zapwulf are unable to battle! This match is a double knockout!"

The stadium erupted into cheers and applause, the audience on their feet as they celebrated the incredible clash. The intensity of the battle had captivated everyone, leaving them breathless and eager for more.

Jason knelt beside Zapwulf, gently running his hand along its mane. "You did amazing," he said softly. "Thank you. Rest now." He recalled the electric-dark Pokémon into its Pokéball, a look of pride and gratitude on his face.

Leon recalled Gyarados, his expression one of respect and admiration. "Jason," he called across the field, his voice carrying over the roar of the crowd, "that was incredible. You've got a real way with your Pokémon. I'm impressed."

Jason stood, meeting Leon's gaze with a determined smile. "Thanks, Leon. Not just for the battle, but for giving us the time we needed to figure things out with Zapwulf. You didn't have to, and it means a lot."

Leon's expression softened, a rare glimpse of warmth crossing his face. "It's all part of being a Trainer, Jason. Battles aren't just about winning or losing—they're about growing, for both you and your Pokémon. You're doing that better than most."

Leon adjusted his cape, a wry smile forming on his lips. "You've got guts, Jason. Not many Trainers could handle a battle like that and keep their cool."

Jason smirked, brushing some dust off his jersey. "Guts or not, it's all about trusting my team. Zapwulf gave everything it had because it believed in me. That's how we fight."

Leon nodded, his expression softening for a moment. "And that trust is what makes you such a worthy challenger. But don't think for a second that means I'm holding back. I'm just getting started."

Jason chuckled. "Good. I wouldn't want it any other way."

The crowd roared in approval, their excitement mounting as the two Trainers exchanged words. Jason reached for his next Pokéball, his mind racing. He held it up, taking a deep breath before throwing it into the air.

"Go, Vaporeon!"

The sleek Water-type emerged onto the battlefield in a graceful leap, its shimmering, aquatic-blue body glistening under the stadium lights. Its fin-like ears twitched as it crouched low, ready to fight, while its glossy tail swished confidently behind it. The crowd erupted into cheers, their enthusiasm surging for the next round of the battle. The battlefield was reset, but the stakes remained higher than ever. Leon reached for his next Pokéball, his fingers brushing over it with practiced ease. With a determined expression, he threw it into the air.

"Go, Haxorus!"

The crowd erupted into cheers as the fierce Dragon-type materialized on the battlefield. Its blade-like tusks gleamed under the stadium lights, and its piercing red eyes locked onto Vaporeon with a predatory focus. Haxorus stomped the ground, letting out a low, guttural growl that sent shivers through the air.

Jason's eyes narrowed as he studied the imposing dragon. "Haxorus, huh? Looks like it's time to get creative, Vaporeon."

The sleek Water-type crouched low, its fin-like ears twitching as it prepared for the coming clash. The crowd's energy surged, their excitement reaching a fever pitch as the next phase of the battle began.

In the quiet town of Postwick, the atmosphere inside the small home of Jason's family was anything but calm. His parents and little sister were gathered around the television, the glow of the screen illuminating their anxious faces as they watched the battle unfold.

"Did you see that?" Jason's mother, Elsie, exclaimed, clutching the edge of the sofa. Her short auburn hair framed her face, which was etched with a mixture of pride and worry. "Zapwulf took so much, and Jason still managed to calm it down. He's grown so much since he left."

Jason's father, Alfred, a tall man with broad shoulders and a calm demeanor, nodded as he leaned forward in his chair. "That boy's got a way with his Pokémon, that's for sure," he said, his deep voice steady but brimming with pride. "He's taking on Leon like a true Champion. I just hope he's got enough left in him for what's ahead."

Jason's younger sister, Jocelyn, a bright-eyed girl no older than ten, sat cross-legged on the floor, clutching her small Eevee. Her dark hair was tied back in pigtails, and her wide eyes sparkled with excitement. Her Eevee, perched comfortably in her lap, let out an enthusiastic "Eevee!" as if cheering alongside her. "Vaporeon's up now!" she squealed, hugging Eevee tightly. The little Pokémon wagged its tail and chirped, "Vee vee!" with equal excitement. "That's my favorite! Do you think it can beat that scary dragon, Dad?"

Alfred chuckled, ruffling her hair. "If anyone can figure out a way, it's your brother. He's always had a knack for thinking on his feet."

Elsie placed a hand over her heart, watching the screen intently. "Whatever happens, he's already made us so proud. He's fighting with everything he has, and that's what matters most."

As the battle on the screen escalated, the family leaned in closer, their cheers and gasps filling the cozy living room. Alfred placed a steady hand on Elsie's shoulder, a silent reassurance of their shared pride and hope for Jason. Jocelyn hugged Eevee tightly, the two of them practically bouncing with excitement. Though the room was small, it felt filled with warmth and unity, a testament to their unwavering support for Jason's incredible journey.

On the battlefield, Vaporeon and Haxorus stood face-to-face, the tension between them almost palpable. The sleek, aquatic Vaporeon crouched low, its glossy blue tail swishing with calculated precision. Across from it, Haxorus loomed tall, its blade-like tusks gleaming ominously under the bright stadium lights.

Leon made the first move, his voice ringing out. "Haxorus, Dragon Claw!"

With a guttural growl, Haxorus charged forward, its claws glowing with a vivid, emerald energy. The ground trembled beneath its powerful strides as it closed the gap between them.

"Vaporeon, Aqua Jet!" Jason commanded.

In an instant, Vaporeon was enveloped in a torrent of water, propelling itself like a missile toward Haxorus. The two attacks collided mid-field with a thunderous crash, sending a spray of water and energy into the air. The crowd erupted in cheers as both Pokémon landed gracefully, neither showing signs of backing down.

Jason's eyes narrowed, a determined grin spreading across his face. "We're not done yet, Vaporeon! Use Ice Beam!"

Vaporeon leaped back, opening its mouth to unleash a beam of icy energy that shot toward Haxorus, leaving a trail of frost in its wake. Leon countered quickly. "Haxorus, dodge and use Iron Tail!"

The Dragon-type twisted its body, narrowly avoiding the Ice Beam as its tail began to glow a bright metallic sheen. With a powerful swing, it struck Vaporeon squarely, sending the sleek Water-type skidding across the battlefield. Vaporeon let out a sharp cry, struggling to steady itself as it regained its footing. Jason winced but quickly called out, "Vaporeon, let's turn this around! Use Rain Dance, full power!"

As the rain poured down, Leon stood tall, his confident smirk unshaken. "You're not the only one who knows how to deal with weather conditions, Jason," he said, his voice carrying easily over the sound of the storm. "Raihan's strategies revolve around controlling the battlefield with weather, and I've faced him more times than I can count. A little rain won't stop me." he smirked

Vaporeon's body glowed faintly as it looked skyward, summoning thick, dark clouds that began to swirl above the stadium. Within moments, a torrential rain began to pour, drenching the battlefield. The shimmering water droplets revitalized Vaporeon, who let out a confident cry, its tail swishing with renewed energy as the rain enhanced its abilities.

In the stands, Sonia leaned forward, her eyes narrowing thoughtfully. "That Rain Dance isn't just for show," she explained, her voice carrying to those nearby. "Vaporeon's ability is Hydration. The rain not only boosts its Water-type moves but also helps it recover energy. It's a perfect synergy for a battle like this."

Nessa smiled as she watched Vaporeon regain its composure, the little Water-type's sleek form glistening under the rain. She rested her chin in her hand, a slight blush warming her cheeks. "It's adorable," she murmured. "Jason's bond with his Pokémon is something else. Look at how much trust and effort they're putting into this fight. That Vaporeon is as elegant as it is determined."

From beside her, Piers let out an exaggerated sigh. "Yeah, yeah, we get it… you like Water Pokémon," he muttered with a playful smirk, crossing his arms.

Nessa shot him a sharp glance, her blush deepening. "Oh, shut up, Piers," she retorted, though her tone carried more embarrassment than anger.

Marnie, seated nearby, smirked and leaned in. "That's not the only thing she likes," she teased, her voice dripping with playful mischief.

Nessa's head snapped toward Marnie, her blush intensifying as she waved a hand dismissively. "Oh, for Arceus' sake, Marnie, it's nothing like that!" she shot back, her tone defensive and hurried. "I just… admire his bond with his Pokémon. That's all." She crossed her arms and huffed, glancing away as if to refocus on the battle. The redness in her cheeks, however, betrayed her attempt at composure. Her eyes quickly darted back to the battlefield, refusing to let the teasing distract her from the intense match. Marnie smirked even wider, leaning back in her seat. "Uh huh," she said, her tone dripping with playful disbelief, making Nessa groan audibly in frustration. Sonia giggled softly, covering her mouth as she exchanged a glance with Piers, the two of them clearly entertained by the interaction. Meanwhile, Hop remained oblivious to the teasing, his attention fully locked on the battle as he cheered enthusiastically for Jason.

Leon's eyes narrowed as he called out his next command. "Haxorus, Dragon Rush!"

The powerful Dragon-type let out a deafening roar as its body glowed with an intense energy, charging toward Vaporeon with incredible speed and force. The ground seemed to quake beneath its steps, the sheer momentum creating a shockwave that rippled outward.

Jason stayed calm, his voice firm as he countered. "Vaporeon, use Acid Armor! Disappear into the rain!"

Vaporeon's body shimmered before melting into the battlefield, its sleek form blending seamlessly with the rain-soaked terrain.

In the stands, Sonia leaned forward with an impressed look. "That Acid Armor is clever," she remarked. "Vaporeon's practically invisible in this rain. Jason's really thinking on his feet."

Nessa's eyes lit up with excitement. "I've never seen Acid Armor used so effectively! It's brilliant!" she exclaimed, leaning closer to the railing. "And it's so cute when it moves like that."

Leon chuckled from across the battlefield, his voice cutting through the rain. "It's a good strategy, Jason. But clever tactics aren't enough to win a battle. Let's see how long you can keep this up." Haxorus's Dragon Rush barreled through where Vaporeon had been moments ago, slamming into the ground with an explosive impact but finding no target. The crowd gasped in awe as the Water-type vanished entirely, leaving only ripples in the puddles as a trace of its presence.

Vaporeon took full advantage of its invisibility, splashing playfully in and out of the rain-soaked battlefield. The sleek Water-type darted between puddles, creating small ripples and splashes that kept Haxorus on edge. Its teasing antics seemed almost deliberate as it disappeared and reappeared, letting out cheerful chirps of "Vaaaporeon!" with each evasive maneuver.

Haxorus's piercing red eyes scanned the battlefield frantically, its head snapping in every direction as it tried to locate its elusive opponent. The crowd's cheers grew louder, fully engrossed in the game of cat-and-mouse playing out before them. Haxorus growled low, its frustration evident as it clawed at the wet ground, ready to strike the moment Vaporeon revealed itself for an attack.

Leon's voice cut through the noise. "Haxorus, stand your ground! Stay guarded and wait for an opening!"

The Dragon-type paused its frantic movements, shifting into a defensive stance as it scanned its surroundings more carefully. Its tail flicked with tension, the sharp tusks on its face gleaming under the rain.

Jason smirked, raising his voice just enough for Vaporeon to hear. "Vaporeon, use Ice Beam… from behind!"

Vaporeon chirped gleefully, splashing unseen to a new position. A sudden, bright beam of icy energy erupted from the rain-soaked field, streaking toward Haxorus's exposed back. The crowd gasped as the Dragon-type roared in surprise, the chilling attack striking true. Haxorus yelled out in pain, its deep voice bellowing across the arena, "HAXORRRRR-UUUSSS!" as the icy energy coursed through its body, freezing parts of its armor-like scales. The Dragon-type staggered slightly, its breath visible in the cold air created by the attack. Leon seized the moment, his voice commanding. "Haxorus, quickly use Dragon Rush!"

Haxorus roared in determination, shaking off the frost as its body glowed with a fierce energy once more. The Dragon-type launched itself into the air, charging toward the ground where Vaporeon had reappeared after its Ice Beam attack. However, just as the powerful Dragon-type closed in, Vaporeon shimmered and disappeared once again, melting seamlessly into the rain-soaked battlefield. The attack slammed into the ground with a deafening impact, sending water splashing high into the air but hitting nothing but wet earth.

Leon clenched his jaw, scanning the arena as his Haxorus snarled in frustration. "Stay focused, Haxorus. Don't let it rattle you!"

In the stands, Sonia leaned toward Nessa, her tone thoughtful. "Jason's strategy is really something. He's not just relying on brute strength. By using Acid Armor and the rain, he's making Vaporeon practically untouchable. It's a great way to keep Haxorus on edge."

Nessa nodded, her admiration clear. "It's so clever. He's turning the whole battlefield to his advantage, keeping Leon guessing. Vaporeon's really showing what Water Pokémon are capable of." She smiled, her gaze lingering on the battlefield. "And I've got to admit, it's kind of fun to watch Haxorus get thrown off like that."

Sonia chuckled. "It's definitely a battle of brains as much as brawn. Jason's making it clear he's no ordinary challenger.

.

In a section of the stands reserved for Gym Leaders, Raihan leaned forward in his seat, his eyes fixed on the battlefield. The Dragon-type specialist was no stranger to weather-based strategies, having built much of his own battling style around controlling the elements. Yet, watching Jason's use of Rain Dance and Vaporeon's seamless integration with the stormy terrain, Raihan couldn't help but be impressed.

"Not bad," he muttered to himself, his arms crossed as he watched Vaporeon's playful yet strategic movements. His usual confident smirk shifted into one of genuine curiosity as he analyzed the way Jason turned the rain into an ally rather than just a tool. "He's got the mind of a tactician. You don't see that every day."

Bea, sitting a few seats down, leaned over with a rare smile. "Jason's style is so fluid," Bea said, her tone carrying a rare note of admiration. "It's like he's choreographing a battle. Vaporeon isn't just following commands—it's responding to the flow of the fight instinctively. That kind of synergy doesn't come easy, and it's not something you can just teach."

"It's more than synergy," Opal added from her seat, adjusting her hat with a knowing grin. "The boy's got a natural intuition. It's refreshing to see someone battle with both their head and their heart. Reminds me of someone… but who could that be?" she teased, casting a sideways glance at Raihan.

"Oh, very funny," Raihan replied, rolling his eyes but clearly amused. "I'm just saying, this rain-based strategy isn't something you see every day. The kid's using the battlefield itself as his partner." "He's not just using the rain to power up Water moves; he's made it the entire focus of his strategy. That Acid Armor in this weather? It's almost genius."

Next to him, Kabu, the Fire-type Gym Leader, nodded thoughtfully. "It's certainly effective," Kabu said, his voice filled with a mixture of respect and curiosity. "Jason's making the rain work in ways even I wouldn't have expected. Leon's Haxorus is powerful, but it's struggling to deal with something it can't lock onto. Jason's essentially turned the entire battlefield into an extension of Vaporeon's abilities. That takes foresight and creativity."

Raihan smirked, resting his chin on his hand. "Still, it's risky. He's betting everything on staying hidden and wearing Haxorus down. If Leon figures out a counter, that advantage might disappear fast."

"True," Kabu replied, his tone measured. "But adapting to something like this isn't just a skill—it's an art. Jason's showing not only that he can keep up with Leon but that he can challenge him in ways most Trainers wouldn't even think of."

"He'll need to show even more than that," Melony chimed in, her voice calm but firm. "Leon's not just powerful—he's unpredictable. If Jason can't keep control of the tempo, this rain won't save him."

"Well, I think it's thrilling," Allister said quietly from beneath his mask, his soft voice almost drowned out by the rain on the screen. "The way Vaporeon vanishes… it's like a ghost. Beautiful, really."

Raihan chuckled. "Yeah, I'll give him that. The kid's got guts. Makes me wonder if he's been studying weather tactics or if this is all instinct. Either way, it's impressive."

As Vaporeon vanished into the rain once again, Raihan's eyes narrowed, a faint smile tugging at his lips.

On the battlefield, Leon's voice rang out with commanding authority. "That's quite enough of that! Haxorus, use Earthquake!"

Haxorus let out a fierce roar, its tusks glinting ominously as it slammed its powerful tail into the ground with a resounding impact. The stadium quaked under the sheer force, and cracks snaked outward like jagged lightning bolts across the battlefield. Columns of water erupted into the air, mixing with the relentless rain and creating a misty haze that enveloped the arena.

The shockwave rippled through the soaked terrain, leaving Vaporeon with nowhere to hide. Its shimmering form reappeared as it stumbled slightly, trying to regain its footing. The crowd gasped as the Water-type let out a sharp cry, visibly shaken by the Dragon-type's relentless power.

Leon's voice was firm, his expression unyielding. "You're clever, Jason, but cleverness only gets you so far."

Jason clenched his fists, his sharp green eyes scanning the battlefield. His determination flared as he met Leon's challenge head-on. "We're not done yet, Vaporeon! Steady yourself and stay in the game!"

Vaporeon's elegant frame glistened under the rain as it dug its paws into the wet ground, stabilizing itself. Its blue tail flicked, droplets scattering like tiny jewels, as it locked eyes with Haxorus. Despite the tremor and force, its resolve remained unbroken.

In the stands, Sonia leaned forward, her analytical mind working in overdrive. "That Earthquake was perfectly timed. Leon knows how to force Jason out of his rhythm."

Melony nodded, crossing her arms. "He's trying to shift the tempo back in his favor. That's Leon's strength—he thrives in chaos."

"But look at Vaporeon," Bea interjected, her sharp gaze fixed on the battlefield. "The rain isn't just boosting its Water moves; it's healing it too. That Earthquake should've done more, but Vaporeon's using the weather to stay in the fight. Jason's strategy is as much about recovery as it is about evasion."

Kabu added, his tone thoughtful. "It's a test of who can adapt faster now. The rain's still in Jason's favor, but Leon's starting to dismantle his strategy."

.

Back on the field, Jason smirked faintly. "Vaporeon, don't let them think they've got the upper hand. It's our turn to strike back! Use Ice Beam into the rainclouds and across the battlefield!"

Vaporeon's eyes glimmered with determination as it opened its mouth, releasing a piercing beam of icy energy toward the stormy sky. The Ice Beam crackled as it surged upward, striking the rainclouds and sending a chill rippling through the air. Almost instantly, the rain began to change, the droplets freezing into delicate snowflakes that fluttered down to the battlefield.

As the icy attack spread across the terrain, the wet ground began to crystallize, transforming into a glistening sheet of frost. Snow swirled gently, creating a serene yet surreal atmosphere amidst the chaos of the battle. The audience gasped in amazement, the stadium now a frozen wonderland, with Vaporeon standing in the center of it all, its body shimmering against the snowy backdrop.

The tension built as the two Trainers locked eyes, both ready to push their strategies to the next level.

In the stands, Hop tilted his head, visibly puzzled by Jason's choice of move. "Why'd he do that?" he asked, glancing at the others.

Piers smirked, leaning back in his seat. "It's not just for show," he explained, his tone carrying a hint of admiration. "Freezing the battlefield makes Ice-type moves even more accurate, and they'll hit harder too. Plus, the ground's slick now—Haxorus will have trouble keeping its balance, especially with its big, stompy movements."

Hop's eyes widened. "Whoa, that's brilliant!"

Leon stood on his side of the battlefield, his sharp eyes narrowing as he watched Jason and Vaporeon. The icy terrain glittered under the stadium lights, and the snowflakes drifting down created an almost serene atmosphere, masking the tension that thickened with each passing moment. But Leon's mind was racing. He had no idea what Jason's endgame was with this frozen field, and the uncertainty gnawed at him.

Whatever it is, I don't want to be part of it, Leon thought grimly.

"Haxorus!" he commanded, his voice cutting through the cold air like a blade. "Use Earthquake and break up that ice!"

Haxorus roared in response, slamming its powerful tail into the frozen ground with all its might. The impact was deafening, and cracks spiderwebbed through the battlefield as chunks of ice were sent flying into the air. The shimmering sheet of frost shattered, giving way to uneven shards and slush. The ground trembled violently, and the snowfall was replaced by a chaotic mix of flying debris and icy mist.

Jason shielded his eyes from the spray, his heart pounding. Vaporeon staggered but managed to regain its balance, its paws slipping slightly on the now jagged terrain. The advantage of the smooth ice was gone, and Leon's quick counter left Jason scrambling to reassess his next move.

Leon's expression hardened, a confident smirk returning to his face. "If you thought I'd let you keep the upper hand, Jason, you've got another thing coming."

Jason's lips curled into a knowing grin. "See, that's the thing," he said, his voice steady and brimming with confidence. "You did exactly what I expected you to do."

Leon's eyes widened slightly, but Jason didn't give him a chance to react further. "Vaporeon, use Blizzard!" he shouted.

The audience gasped as Vaporeon reared back, its body glowing faintly with icy energy. With the snow already falling heavily, the Blizzard attack roared to life, a ferocious gale of frost and ice that blanketed the battlefield. The snowstorm intensified, the icy wind cutting through the misty debris left by Haxorus's Earthquake. The frozen shards glittered in the light as the Blizzard enveloped Haxorus, hitting with pinpoint accuracy thanks to the snow.

"Blizzard never misses in the snow," Jason muttered to himself, his grin widening as the attack landed with devastating force. Haxorus roared in pain, its cry echoing through the stadium, "HAXORRRRR-USSS!" The force of the icy gale overwhelmed it, the Dragon-type struggling to remain upright before collapsing onto the jagged terrain. When the Blizzard subsided, the battlefield was silent for a moment, revealing Haxorus lying motionless, fainted.

The referee raised his arm, his voice booming over the murmurs of the crowd. "Haxorus is unable to battle!"

The stadium erupted in cheers and gasps, the intensity of the match gripping every spectator. Jason exhaled, his confidence unwavering as he turned his focus back to Leon.

Leon returned Haxorus to its Poké Ball, his usual calm demeanor masking the calculations running through his mind. "Well done, Jason," he said, his voice steady but edged with determination. "We're down to the final two."

Jason nodded, his hand brushing against the Poké Balls remaining at his belt.

Leon took a deep breath, his gaze sharp as he reached for his next Poké Ball. The stadium's atmosphere was electric, the cheers of the crowd blending with the falling snow to create a surreal battlefield. Without hesitation, Leon raised the Poké Ball high.

"Let's keep the pressure on. Rhyperior, you're up!" he called out, throwing the ball onto the icy terrain.

The massive Ground- and Rock-type emerged with a thunderous roar, its orange and gray armor-like hide glinting under the stadium lights. Rhyperior's imposing frame stood as a stark contrast to the serene snowfall, steam rising from its nostrils as it stomped heavily on the jagged ground. Each movement seemed to shake the very foundation of the battlefield, a testament to its raw power.

Jason's eyes narrowed as he studied the new opponent. "Rhyperior, huh? A heavy hitter and tank combined," he muttered to himself. "This'll be tricky."

From the stands, Sonia leaned forward, her expression a mix of curiosity and realization. "Rhyperior might be a tank, but it's got a serious weakness to Water moves. If Jason plays this right, Vaporeon's got the upper hand."

"Yeah, and with the snow giving Vaporeon some cover, Jason can use that speed and water advantage to really pressure Rhyperior," Bea added, arms crossed. "It's all about whether he can strike fast enough.""

Back on the battlefield, Leon's voice boomed. "Let's see how well your strategy holds up, Jason. Rhyperior, prepare yourself! Rhyperior, use Flamethrower… on the field!"

Rhyperior reared back, its massive jaws opening as it unleashed a stream of searing flames across the icy terrain. The fire roared as it licked the ground, rapidly melting patches of snow and ice into steaming puddles. The intense heat created bursts of mist that rose into the air, obscuring parts of the battlefield and forcing Jason to shield his face from the sudden wave of warmth.

Jason winced, realizing Leon's intent. "He's trying to nullify the field advantage," he muttered, gripping Vaporeon's Poké Ball tightly. "That plays right into my hand."

Melony shook her head, a slight smile on her face. "That Flamethrower was a mistake," she said to the other Gym Leaders. "Melting the ice might seem like a good idea, but it's just going to create slippery terrain and more water for Vaporeon to exploit. Leon's handed Jason an even bigger advantage."

Bea frowned, tilting her head in confusion. "Why do you say that?"

Melony gestured toward the battlefield. "Because Leon seems to have forgotten that Vaporeon still knows Acid Armor. That move lets it melt into any water on the field, making it nearly impossible to hit. By flooding the terrain, Leon's only made things easier for Jason."

Vaporeon, use Acid Armor!" he called out.

Vaporeon let out a soft cry of acknowledgment, its sleek form shimmering as it melted seamlessly into the wet ground. The puddles left behind by Rhyperior's Flamethrower became its new hiding place, the Water-type vanishing entirely from sight.

Leon's expression didn't falter. Instead, a knowing smirk tugged at his lips. "You think I wouldn't see that coming? Rhyperior, use Earthquake!"

Rhyperior roared, raising one of its massive legs before slamming it down with tremendous force. The battlefield quaked violently, water spraying everywhere as the ground beneath the puddles fractured and shifted. Jason steadied himself, his jaw tightening as he watched the terrain shake under the powerful attack. But he quickly saw an opening.

"Vaporeon, exit behind Rhyperior and use Hydro Pump!" Jason shouted, his voice cutting through the chaos.

From the misty puddles, Vaporeon emerged with a burst of speed, its lithe form gliding effortlessly behind Rhyperior. The massive Pokémon didn't notice until it was too late. Vaporeon opened its mouth, releasing a powerful torrent of water that slammed directly into Rhyperior's back. The Hydro Pump struck with immense force, causing Rhyperior to roar in pain as it staggered forward.

The crowd erupted into cheers as the devastating Water-type attack continued, overwhelming the Ground-and Rock-type Pokémon. In the stands, several Gym Leaders exchanged glances, the intensity of the battle drawing them in.

"That Hydro Pump was perfectly timed," Kabu noted, nodding in approval. "Jason's making all the right calls here."

Melony smirked. "I told you, Leon's Flamethrower gave Jason the tools he needed to win this exchange. He's using the battlefield to its full potential."

Nearby, Nessa sat quietly, her arms folded as her sharp aqua eyes remained fixed on Jason. Her thoughts churned as she watched Vaporeon flick its tail proudly. The way Jason battles... it's not just strategy. It's care. He's bringing out the absolute best in Vaporeon, showing just how versatile Water-types can be. A faint smile crossed her lips, admiration flickering in her gaze before she snapped herself out of it, focusing back on the match. Rhyperior's movements slowed, and finally, it collapsed onto the wet terrain with a thunderous crash.

The referee raised his arm. "Rhyperior is unable to battle!"

Jason exhaled sharply, a triumphant smile crossing his face as Vaporeon let out a cheerful cry, its tail flicking proudly. Leon recalled Rhyperior, his face stoic, but a flicker of worry crossed his features. After a brief pause, his expression shifted to one of excitement. He raised his final Poké Ball high into the air. "This is my last Pokémon, Jason," he declared, his voice booming with energy. "Let's make this battle a Champion Time!"

With that, Leon struck his signature pose, his cape billowing dramatically behind him as the crowd erupted into thunderous cheers. The unexpected power and precision of Jason's move had caught him off guard. He stood firm, yet his sharp eyes betrayed a hint of nervous calculation as he processed the sudden shift in momentum.

Leon stutters to find words but eventually breaks the silence. "Jason... you've gone further than anyone has since... since..." Leon stammered, struggling to articulate his thoughts.

From the stands, Sonia leaned forward slightly, her voice low but audible enough for those nearby. "...since Mustard," she finished quietly, her words laced with a mix of reverence and realization. Her eyes reflected the weight of the comparison, understanding the significance of Leon's unspoken thought. His usually confident demeanor seemed to waver as he absorbed the weight of the battle and Jason's unexpected brilliance.

Leon suddenly found his voice, an excited edge breaking through his usual composure. "Even Raihan hasn't come this far!"

In the stands, Raihan's expression darkened as he crossed his arms, glaring at Leon with a mixture of annoyance and disbelief. His unamused face said everything that words didn't need to.

Jason's hand trembled slightly as he gripped Vaporeon's Poké Ball, his knuckles white against the smooth surface. The roar of the crowd felt distant, muffled against the pounding of his heart in his ears. He stared at the glowing ball in his palm, a swirl of doubt creeping into his thoughts despite his confident front.

This is it. Leon's down to his last Pokémon, but so am I soon. Can we really pull this off? Jason's mind raced, replaying the events that had led him to this moment. Vaporeon had fought so valiantly, overcoming impossible odds time and again. But now, with Leon's final Pokémon looming, the weight of the battle pressed heavily on his shoulders.

Jason took a deep breath, forcing himself to focus. He looked down at the Poké Ball, its glow reflecting the stadium lights. "We've come this far together," he murmured under his breath. "I know you've got what it takes, Vaporeon. Let's finish this the way we started: as a team."

He could feel the dampness of the rain-soaked battlefield even through his shoes, the chill of the air biting at his exposed skin. But instead of retreating into nervousness, Jason let the environment ground him. He looked up at Leon, whose confident façade flickered momentarily as he caught sight of Jason's determined expression.

Jason rolled the Poké Ball in his hand, steadying his grip. The crowd seemed to lean in collectively, sensing the pivotal moment. Finally, Jason's lips curled into a faint but resolute smile. He stepped forward, lifting the Poké Ball slightly. "Alright, Vaporeon. Let's show them what we're made of!"
